Not freaky at all SKM, I don't think anyone really beleives that all is well till they see their baby on the screen for the 1st time

Pidge · 20/08/2004 20:35

Had the 12 week scan today and all is well - such a relief. And so amazing to see the baby waving hands around! The pics look just like the ones we have of dd. My bruv has a theory that they just print out the same piccies for everyone, and I can see what he means!!

SKM - I totally know what you mean. Particularly with my dd I was convinced that they were going to find no baby there! This time it's a bit more real because my symptoms are so identical to the last pregnancy, plus I suddenly have a definite bump!

Am off on my hols for two weeks this weekend, so only intermittent internet access for me, but I'll definitely check in and see how everyone is getting on.

milkybarkid · 21/08/2004 18:24

Hi, havent been round for ages because so knackered; its such hard work being pregnant while looking after 7 month old baby; Im so looking forward to another, but why didnt i wait?

Londonmummy05 · 22/08/2004 19:48

Hi girls, Hope you're all well, just came back form watching Arsenal play (Dh is away again so went with dad) It's so much more tiring now! I feel as if I need to sleep for a day!

Nymum2be- Congrats on choosing Queen Charlottes, I gave them my GP referral in case I decided to use them for NHS and I got a letter yesterday saying they're full for when I'm due! So you were lucky, my GP said they have to take me whether they like it or not, but I see it as fate and it's kind of helped my decision. I'm seeing someone in the private sector at QC on Tuesday. i still love john and Lizzies but after listening to everybodies advice i think it's best to be next to an NHS unit. I'm sure you'll get exactly the same care as me for free! The NHS is fine and it is just a case of having one to one care but you can still get that at QC on the NHS and they also have a birthing centre for natural births. I also wanted the comfort of my own room ( which is a silly reason) but you can try and ask for an amenity room after your birth.

At the end of the day as long as you and the baby are fine other things don't matter so much. I just got the idea of private into my head the minute I got pregnant and most of my friends have taken that route and it was difficult to change my mind.( once I get something into my head-forget it!)

Are you going to have all your scans done privately? Do you live close to QC? I keep making DH drive past it to familiarise me with the area! It would really be stupid to go anyhere else it's so close, we timed 5 minutes there and 6 minutes back! I didn't like taking the bus or train there but if you go by car you don't even realise the prisons there! Good luck with everything and let me know if you need any London advice

munchkinsusie · 25/08/2004 08:55

hi girls,
not been on for a while, been so busy! we told our families about the future new addition last weekend which was great. they were really excited - and my mum has almost finished kniting the first jumper!

i've been feeling extremely tired for the last week or so - not managing to get anything done in the evenings, and had to have some time off work as well. that seems to be passing now which is good. although i was very ill last night at bedtime - first time i've been properly sick and it wasn't pleasant. i really feel for those of you who are sick all the time, i don't know how i'd cope.

i don't know how many of you are in the same position as me - that is overweight before i started (5' 1" and 13stone) but i was warned by the midwife to try not to put weight on with the pregnancy. so the update for the first trimester(i'm now in week 13) is that i've lost weight (i lost 6pds in the couple of weeks before i found out i was pregnant and have managed to only put 1.5 pounds back on). i'm really pleased. i don't have any idea how i've managed it since i'm eating every 2/3 hours or so and always need two breakfasts - and have had a big craving for maccaroni cheese for lunch for the past month! anyway, i'll see how i go in the second trimester.

i've got my 12 week scan tomorrow (we get one on the NHS here). me and dh are so excited - i can't wait to have confirmation that there is a little baby in there and i'm not just making it all up. although, dh and i agree that i'm definitely developing a bump - what used to be a flabby belly is now not very flabby at all - much harder and bump like!

hope you're all well.

Beetlebug · 27/08/2004 10:49

Hi everyone. Been having the worst time with morning sickness but now at 12 weeks 5 days I'm feeling really well. At 9 weeks I started bleeding, not heavily but enough to make me worry. I rushed to the hospital and had an internal scan and fortunatly there was a small blister on the amniotic sack which they said would heal very quickley. It was wonderful seeing sprog he/she looked like a cross between a baked bean and a monkey nut but beautiful none the less.

Had my nuchal scan on tuesday the results were not fantastic, because of my age (29) and the fact that the space at the back of sprog's neck was larger than it should be, my chances of having a child with a genetic disorder have gone up from 1 in 678 to 1 in 168. I've been offerd CVS and amniocentesis (I think that's how you spell it) after much discussion with dh I've decided not to. The procedures are way too invasive for my liking and the chances of miscariage are too high. I've been asked to come back at 20 weeks for a anomoly scan where they will look for the usual things and check the space at the back of the neck again. I am remaining positive at this stage and trying to enjoy my pregnancy . The kids came to the scan with us, ds who initially was not pleased at becoming a big brother is now warming to the idea and dd is beside herself and has been patting my tummy and talking to baby every 10 minutes...very cute.

Londonmummy05 · 28/08/2004 14:42

Beetlebug I'm glad the bleeding wasn't anything major. I had my 12 week scan and nuchal fold yesterday, it was so cool, we saw the baby and everything, the doctor said it was happy and healthy and my nuchal risk was 1 in 6501 so don't think I'm having CVS or amnio. The doctor kept wanting to tell us the sex so it makes me think it's a boy because DH kept talking about them playing for Arsenal and the doctor said they will and then he quickly added " whether it's a girl or a boy". It's so nice to have the pictures it's such a change from 6 weeks I can't believe there's a baby inside me!
Sickness has gone but still feel queasy when don't eat, I was just out shopping and had to rush home to eat before I carried on ( I'm one of those saddos that can't eat on their own in public!) There's soo many tourists around for bank holiday that I don't think I can face going back, it's Notting Hill Carnival tommorow and Monday I need to get away! hope you're all well :)

misdee · 29/08/2004 14:29

Hi

Well i had my 12 week scan the other week. I have to have a glucose tolerence test done, as i am over the weight limit they like, my mum has diabetes and my 2nd dd was just over their weight preference, so i have 3 reasons for the test. (3 needles in 2 hours boo-hoo). That is being done early october.

I have also got to go to Guys hospital in london for a fetal cardiac scan. I dont feel there should be any problems, but as DH has dilated cardiomyopathy there is a 1 in 4 (i think) chance of passing it on. But the hospital dh is under feel his condition was caused by a virus so it cant be passed on. I just think they are being extra cautious which is fine by me, i'd rather they check just in case than dismiss it totally.

My internet connection is awful atm, which is why i havent been on, hoefully it will be working properly by the middle of the week (atm i can only connect when i'm on the phone. weird!!)

Hope everyone is ok.

munchkinsusie · 03/09/2004 08:50

hi girls,
we've been very quiet on here recently - where is everyone?

anyway, i had my 12 week scan which went well, just one baby in there which was a relief, and even more of a relief to see the heart beating. they moved my dates by a week so i'm now due 13th march. (i'm not surprised, i tried to tell them that would be the case since i had three weeks between last period and ovulation not two but they wouldn't listen!) we've decided not to have the blood test done that looks at your chances of having a downs kid (i think it checks for chances of spina bifida as well). if it could have told us for definite then we might have done it but we've decided that if it gives us high odds we would only be worried for what might be no reason. we're also both agreed that we wouldn't want to have an amnio or to abort the baby if there was anything wrong. we will have the anomoly scan since that is more definite in terms of problems with the baby (and it means we get to see it again!)

i'm off on holiday tomorrow - going on a cruise to alaska which i'm looking forward to. i plan to sleep, eat, sleep, watch whales, sleep, see glaciers, sleep and have spa treatments. i really need a rest! i've also developed a bump as well. i think that's why i've been so tired this past couple of weeks - it's really been growing! it's not so big that others will notice (since i'm not a thin girl) but enough that me and dh can tell. it's so exciting!

hope you're all doing well.

aku · 03/09/2004 09:30

Hi all,

Thought I'll gatecrash this thread once again. Not been having a very good time of late. Been bleeding on and off. I have got a scan next Monday so that will put me out of my misery or not. I do hope all will be well though and the babies are okay.

Hope everybody else is getting on ok not too many niggles.

Londonmummy05 · 03/09/2004 13:29

Hope everything works out Aku.
i hear you on the bump Munchkinsusie! Is anyone else developing a bump? i'm 13 weeks now and can really feel the bump. i was slim before so it shows more but I've been pigging out these few months to stop me feeling sick so don't know if it's baby or food! My nausea has practically gone now but still like food :) I need an energy boost so hope I'll motivate myself for the gym next week 9was meant to start this week but obviously that didn't happen) Hoep you're all well, let us know how you March mummies are doing especially those in the second trimester- we made it!

Beetlebug · 03/09/2004 14:00

Londonmummy05 I'm 13 weeks 5 days and developing a slight bump but not enough for people to notice. I think I can only see it because I had nasty morning sickness and lost weight. I can't wait to get a bump large enough for people to realise I'm pregnant not fat! I hadnt really thought about what an acheivement it is to make it into the second trimester, thanks for bringing it to my attention Londonmummy05!

Londonmummy05 · 03/09/2004 16:41

Hi Beetlebug, I can't wait until i look pregnant too, right now I just look like i'm fat, I started looking at maternity clothes yesterday and it was so depressing. Everything seems frumpy or is for when i'm further down the line. My jeans and t-shirts were always xs and small so quite tight but now they look silly with my belly, it does make me feel more pregnant though :) Top shop have ok stuff, I love serendipty online but their stuff is quite expensive and as i've opted for a private birth DH will kill me if i go overboard on clothes, I'm allowing myself a pair of 'Seven' maternity jeans as they'll still make me feel semi cool and I'll just get cheapie t-shirts for now- hey we women are doing all the hard work we deserve some luxuries :)

Pidge · 06/09/2004 10:37

Have been on my hols for two weeks, so just catching up with everyone's news on here.

Still haven't spilled the beans to my work colleagues, as I'm waiting for my project manager to come back so I can tell him first. Meanwhile I'm hoping no-one has noticed my bump!

I'm now nearly at 15 weeks, the sickness is fading somewhat, but the evenings are still pretty grim. Dp insisted on going out for a meal whilst on holiday, as we had my parents on hand to babysit for dd. I ate a few mouthfuls of plain spaghetti, spent the whole time feeling ghastly and ended up throwing up all over the pavement!! One of the least successful nights out of my life. Plus I had to drive home because dp had been quaffing wine. Still, am hoping the sickness will really truly fade away soon.

Have been offered an optional 3-d scan between 15-18 weeks because Kings in London is doing some research which I could participate in. I'm quite tempted because 3-D piccies of the baby sound quite fun. On the other hand I definitely don't want to know the gender and am a bit worried it will be obvious! Has anyone else any experience of 3-D scans?

steppemum · 06/09/2004 14:39

Hi everyone, can I join this thread? Sorry I haven't read it all yet to find out who is on it (I read the long threads offline) I am now 13 weeks due on march 14th.

I'm just beginning to believe that this is really going to happen, I've had 2 miscarriages this year, so I've been holding my breath for the last 12 weeks, now that we've passed the danger point I'm finally beginning to get excited! I had a scan 2 weeks ago and there he'she was jumping around, it was brilliant.

Pidge · 06/09/2004 14:51

Congratulations steppemum - that is such brilliant news after all the trauma you've been through. Welcome to march 2005 and here's to a trouble free rest of pregnancy for you.

Londonmummy05 · 06/09/2004 15:51

Congrats Steppemum it's really happening :) Good luck! Pidge the 3d scan sounds awesome especially it it's free, i think they cost around 300 pounds to do otherwise, I'd love to do it but might wait until around 25 weeks or even later so i can see more of the developed baby. It's meant to help you bond.I don't know if you can tell the gender though, but I'm sure if you ask them not to tell you they can focus on the upper half ;)

NewYorktoLondon · 06/09/2004 17:33

hi all,

Just back from holiday and catching up with what's happening with everyone. Good hear that everyone's moving into the second trimester.

Beetlebug - hang in there, sounds like you've had a tough time of it lately.

Welcome steppemum, and really great that you are past the danger period.

I just had my scan this morning - the nuchal fold one - and thank goodness it was all good news. I feel so much more reliefed now. We had it done at the Fetal medicine centre, it's private so you have to pay - but I thought they were great.

I've also just told work. It's weird, having kept it a secret for so long to have everyone knowing. But it does help to make it more real.

Londonmummy05 - where did you find seven maternity jeans ... I'm just about to burst out of mine.
I bought some clothes while I was in the states last week - I just bought regular clothes...a size or 2 bigger. This should hopefully get me through these next few months. I'm still wearing my regular clothes now - but some of my 'skinny' items are getting increasingly uncomfortable.

Londonmummy05 · 06/09/2004 18:30

Welcome back Ny2london! I had my scan there too it was such a nice experience I didn't want to leave (could've done without the blood test though) I think they only have Earl Jeans here if you go to serendipity online they have cool stuff. Otherwise i'm going to New york for DH's cousins wedding so I'm getting them from there, mine stopped fitting me weeks ago! They were very tight to begin with though :) I can't wait to go to NY, the stuff i've seen here is either really boring or really expensive, i can't wait to go to Mimi and pea in a pod (they have seven jeans), i think you can order stuff from their website and they ship it over here. I'll try and get the website for Serendipity for you. Hope you're doing well, happy labour day :)

Londonmummy05 · 06/09/2004 18:34

Beetlebug · 08/09/2004 13:40

Hi everyone

NewYorktoLondon, with regard to tight fitting clothes I'm trying to hold off for a while before buying anything new so in the mean time I'm using the age old method of a 'hair band in the button hole'. Seems to be doing the trick and allowing me to steer clear of anything too frumpy looking. Londonmummy05 I just came back from New York a few weeks ago and at the time I was'nt really thinking about maternity clothes which is a shame cos the day before I was coming back to London (and my money was running out)I spotted mimi maternity I managed to get a couple of winter peices but I wanted to buy everything!!!!
I'm hoping that maybe one of my friends will be going back soon so they can get me some stuff, and the baby clothes are so cute and cheap!

Pidge you are soooooooo lucky being offered the 3D scan...go for it, just insist that you dont wish to know babys gender. I've been booked in at St Thomas' they dont offer a 3D scan and I've considered doing it privately but it's so expensive. Go for it and enjoy it

Pidge · 08/09/2004 13:51

Beetlebug & Londonmummy05 - yup have decided I should definitely go for it. Now I just need to be organised and get myself up to King's somewhere between 15-18 weeks, which is the timeframe they're using for the research. I'll let you know how I get on.

Beetlebug - very jealous of your New York maternity shopping, even if it was limited. I am hopeless on the clothes front at the best of times and last time round ended up with just one pair of black trousers that I lived in. Have vowed I'll be more elegant this time! So far, even though I have a very clear bump, all my trousers seem to be cut beneath it, so haven't had to take any action yet.

Decided I had to tell people at work as dp told me my bump was getting very obvious, plus one day I ran out of baggy t-shirts! I work with a bunch of IT guys and incredibly nobody had noticed my strange behaviour - obsession with eating jacket potatoes every day, plus constant chewing on dry biscuits in an attempt not to throw up!

Is anyone else still feeling sick? I'm at 15 weeks and although the nausea is better - it's very much still there in the evening, it's all I can do to swallow a few mouthfuls of supper before crawling into bed at 9pm. Was trying to remember what I was like with dd, and I'm sure I was beginning to 'bloom' by this point!!

mazzymcg · 08/09/2004 21:29

Hi, have been posting on the April thread but had my scan Monday and due date is 25th March so would like to join here please - will you have me?! I have been reading posts about bumps - gosh mine is huge (well to me anyway!) already and I can't fit into any of my pre-pregnancy clothes so have had to buy some maternity stuff which is mostly miles too big so I'm just wearing the same three or four outfits constantly! Not quite sure what's going on as I've actually lost half a stone since I got pregnant - lack of alcohol and chocolate probably!

i have also lost half a stone. but i did go off meat and things in month 2, was living off salad and jacket potatoes.

I have been going from petrified about the scan next month to relaxed about it. Hve bombarded the DCM board with questions and also other people, but the baby is still making me sick most days so am taking that as a good sign.

Still having extreme tiredness, i thought in the 2nd stage of pregnancy we were meant to bloom and be full of energy?
