Hi all
I'm new to the board, so please bear with me!
I have a concern/question that I need some advice on. I am in my 12th week, and had my first scan last week - everything was fine. However, when I got up today I had some bleeding - light and pink - which has since stopped. Should I be worried about this? It is around the time my period would be due, so could this be related?

Thanks in advance...

SKM · 13/08/2004 16:08

Hi Luckygirl

I had a slight scare on the 13th July, woke up to find my jimmys full of what can only be decribed as a dark watery mess, I had a very light bleed for a day, it was more like the end of a period than proper blood. (sitmi). Everything is fine now and had nothing since,I went to see my doc to be sure, and he said it was quite common, apparently it can sometimes be an implatation bleed, this was about four weeks ago now though!! Don't worry as long is it has stopped you should be fine, just keep an I on it,I've got my first appointment with the midwife on monday, my edd is 5th March , How about you??

popsycal · 13/08/2004 19:59

lucky girl - i have expereienced this afew times - I am 10.5 weeks now - and went for a slightly early scan on wednesday. baby is fine but have a small area of bleed away from the baby. Hospital isn't worried but said I was right to get it checked out. They also told me not to be surprised if it happened again. They also said if it begins to look like the start of a period of I get accompanying cramps, that I should go straight back in.

I agree that it will probably be nothing but for piece of mind, I would mention it to your midwife or contact the early prenancy assessment unit at your hospital - mine is great.

wilki2000 · 13/08/2004 21:46

hi all,

just been reading your thread and thought Id jump on the band wagon too! my edd is 15 march and dh and I are very excited. We have already had our scan because lmp is actually three weeks behind! We already have 1 dd who is 17mths old and hitting the tantrum stage! so I think we are going to have our hands full!

Great to know Im not alone!

bobblehat · 14/08/2004 14:47

Hello Wilki2000

I know how you feel - I've got a 2-and-a-half year old who constantly runs around shouting ..'but I need it..' I thought I had things hard last time, but things must have been so easy, being able to sit down when you need to and not worry if there's nothing for tea again. Never mind, I'm about 10 weeks now so things should get better soon (I hope! )

fruitful · 16/08/2004 09:55

Ooh, I feel good today! Probably cos I've had so much sleep over the weekend. And dd has gone to the park with her favourite babysitter. Quick, must get lots of stuff done... (so I'm on Mumsnet!).

Slight paranoia that feeling good at 8 weeks is not good though . But I know its probably fine . I thought PMT was bad, I'd forgotten how emotional pg makes you!

Londonmummy05 · 16/08/2004 10:55

Hi ladies, can I join you? I'm 11 weeks today and my edd is March 7th, I only found this website a week ago I've been on an American March 2005 thread on a website called the weddingchannel, which is great but their system is very different from ours

Quick rundown. I had a little spotting at 6 weeks had a scan and saw heartbeat, have been fine since, no real sickness just feel queasy if i don't eat every half hour- really good for my waistline! Also really tired all the time.

I told family and close friends straight away and general public at 10 weeks. My main problem is that I still haven't decided on a hospital or whether I want NHS or Private and it's all I've been thinking about-it's driving me mad. I'm seeing my GP tommorow to book my 12 week scan-hope I haven't left it too long, I'd told her I was going private so she hasn't booked anything for me yet, but I 've decided to at least have my scans on NHS to save a bit of money! It's so annoying though because I bet there are no good NHS hospitals left I knew I was pregnant at 4 weeks so could of had my pick-oh well.

Apparently you'll all be happy to know that March 2005 is meant to be a busy month for births because of Euro 2004. I wasn't even here I was in Canada when I concieved! I think England won around the 15th of June- you all know who you are

I've read most of your posts and it's reassuring to hear we're all going through many of the same symptoms and worries. hope you're all well

SKM · 16/08/2004 14:05

Hello everyone, feeling very mummsy today, just had my booking in visit, I feel like a proper mum now, got a scan on the 25th August 04, can' wait

Pidge · 17/08/2004 09:09

Hi to all the new folks and the old!

Can't believe I'm at the 12 week mark tomorrow, sometimes it's felt like I've been in the first trimester forever! Nausea very much still there all the time, but definitely more manageable than it was. I have my scan on Friday then off for a two week holiday. Hooray.

Good luck for you scan on Wednesday StaceyK.

NewYorktoLondon · 19/08/2004 10:04

Hi all.

Just had found this website, and this thread and thought that I'd join in.

My edd is March 18th, so I'll be 10 weeks tomorrow. Definitely starting to get excited and can't wait to just get passed the 12 week mark.
We've also finally made the decision to go NHS instead of private (much thanks to other threads on this site).

Having that decision behind us, I think we've been able to relax alot more.

We are telling my parents next weekend - which should be exciting ... their first grandchild.

Girly · 19/08/2004 10:38

HI everyone!

We had our nuchal scan last night and everything looks good, so we are very releived and happy! Sickness is at last wearing off and am starting to feel better. HOORAY!!!

The scan was really clear and you could see all sorts

Dh asked what the sex was and she told him! Bloody man was supposed to wait! Esp as we have one of each, but he was tooo impatient!

So we know what it is

SKM · 19/08/2004 10:42

GIRLY I've got my nuchal wotsit scan next week, my other half wnats to know the sex how many weeks are you???

Pidge · 19/08/2004 10:51

Wow - girly - congratulations! I didn't even know they could tell the gender at this stage.

It must be so exciting to actually see the babe and know that everything is ok. I remember coming over all tearful during the scan for my dd - totally hadn't expected it to be such an amazing experience. I'll be going equipped with a Kleenex this time!!

Girly · 19/08/2004 10:52

SKM I am 12 weeks and 2 days! They cannot always tell at this stage, but apparently it was quite clear what the sex was!

Girly · 19/08/2004 10:54

Pidge, the scan was lovely, I almost cried, but remembered that I did not have my waterproof mascara on so had to sniff back the tears!

It was a lovely experience, one I will never forget, it really helps to bond with the baby, dh is over the moon as it has finally become real for him

Londonmummy05 · 19/08/2004 11:40

Girly did you have your nuchal scan on the NHS? I called Queen Charlottes to book my 12 week scan and they said I'd have yo wait until 15 weeks! and that I can't have the Nuchal scan because I'm 27 years old, so I'm having it done privately, I'll go mad if I have to wait another 4 weeks! It's my fault really I still haven't decided on private or NHS so haven't booked in anywhere yet.

NewYorktoLondon I read your question about Private ir NHS, congrats on making a decision I wish I could Which NHS did you decide to go for in the end? Have they fitted you in with a 12 week scan at such short notice or do you have to wait too.

I'm feeling fat today, not surprising as all I crave are big macs, whoppers and baked beans on toast! It hadn't really effected my waistline until now, and it's really caught up on me, can't wait to have my 12 week scan so I can start doing some exercise again, I'm not working at the moment so I feel like a real slob, I've heard we'll get our energy back in the 2nd trimester- I can't wait! Hope you're all well.
Alice

Pidge · 19/08/2004 11:46

Londonmummy05 - not sure this helps, but I know that the various NHS trusts vary in what scans and testing they offer. Some areas don't do a 12 (ish) week scan at all and only offer the 'anomaly' scan at 20+ weeks. Others may offer a 12 week scan but not the nuchal fold test. It seems a bit unfair really - and a bit of a lottery.

A friend of mine who was only eligible for a 20+ week scan only discovered then that she was expecting twins!!

Generally I have only praise for the NHS service I received in my last pregnancy. But I do think that everyone should be entitled to the same tests and treatment regardless of where they live. It's so hard knowing other people are getting the reassurance of 12 week scans, whilst you're having to wait. Hope you can get something sorted out.

Londonmummy05 · 19/08/2004 11:57

Thanks Pidge, It is difficult and although I only have good things to say about the NHS one major prob is that they are very busy, I had a scan at 6 weeks because of spotting and my GP tried to book me in for an NHS scan but I would have had to have waited 5 days, by which time I would have gone insane with worry so I had it done privately at the Cromwell hospital within 15 minutes of calling them. I know if it was an emergency in there eyes they would have tried to havefitted me in though.

I do think QC do a 12 week scan it's just that I only gave them my GP referal 2 days ago so they need time to register me and give me a hospital number etc. I can have my 12 week scan anytime after August 25th so I'll wait until the beginning of next week to hear from them otherwise I'll book it privately. Also I think if you have the nuchal fold you don't need the 12 week scan seperatly so if I'm getting that done I may as well do them both. Wow I can't believe your friend found out she was having twins at 20 weeks, surely they need to have earlier scans, your friend was high risk and didn't know it until half way through her pregnancy, although I suppose in our mums days they didn't have any scanning, when my mum had my brothers 1969 and 1970 there was no scanning, it was only when she had me in 1977 when she had one scan throughout her pregnancy!

Girly · 19/08/2004 12:02

I had to pay for my Nuchal scan and blood test. Worth every penny just for the peace of mind it gives you.

In our area they offer a dating scan at 11-13 weeks and then a anomoly scan at 20 weeks.

I had an early scare at 8 1/2 weeks so had a really quick scan to check everything was ok, it was litrally in, heartbeat yes, quick measure to confirm dates and then out again in a flash! They cancelled my dating scan because of this early one. I was not happy with this as I did not feel enough checks were carried out so felt the Nuchal was the best option for us.

The difference in the baby between these dates was abolutley amazing, the one at 8.5 weeks you could barely see anything and bubs looked like a monkeynut with a head! Then a 12 weeks it was so clear, lots of kicking, waving, swimming about and mooning at us, it was sooo funny! If I could do it again today I would, loved every minute of it even though its our 3rd baby its as exciting as the 1st.

Londonmummy05 · 19/08/2004 12:31

Yippe, I just booked my Nuchal scan, the lady said that you don't need a seperate 12 week scan so if I'm doing it privately it's no point doinganother on the NHS. I'm going to the Fetal medicine centre next Friday, this feels like the first bit of progress I'm making in the last 12 weeks

Wow Girly the difference between the 2 scans sounds huge I've got a picture of the 6 week scan and the baby's just a blob too, it must be amazing to see such a change, and it will make it really real for DH who still can't believe there's a baby inside me, I'm nearly more excited for him seeing it thean me!

Girly · 19/08/2004 12:43

Londonmummy05, I hope you enjoy your scan!

I was very nervous before ours, it was such a relief to see the baby moving about and really puts your mind at rest. You should get the results straight away and some pictures.

It is such a wonderful experience that sometimes its easy to forget that you are there for the health of the baby rather than your entertainment!

SKM · 19/08/2004 12:58

What made you so nervous???

NewYorktoLondon · 19/08/2004 13:37

Londonmummy - glad that you were about to sort it all out. I was going to suggest the Fetal medicine centre - that's where I have my appointment in a few weeks. Good luck next week and you'll definitely have to let us know how it all goes.

I decided on Queen's Charlotte. They seemed to have their act together when I went for the tour. You can get a private room on NHS, though it does depend on availability. And even if you are in a room with others - it is only 4 to a room.

They do offer a scan at around 12 weeks - but again it isn't the nuchal scan. They only offer that if you are over 37. I do think that this varies at different NHS hospitals.

DH and I decided that the money was better spent for help afterward since we don't have family here.

Girly · 19/08/2004 14:08

SKM, can not really explain why so nervous, was quite worried about how I would cope if there was something wrong with the baby.

SKM · 19/08/2004 14:16

God I'm really nervous to, I keep panicing that when I get their there wont be a baby??? God that makes me sould like a freak I know, sorry
