These soft markers are such a worry as they could mean something or nothing. If they only found the one marker, and your bloods came back OK, then the chances are it's nothing. It's still awful having to decide what to do though (especially at 23 weeks).

I'm waiting for the full results of my amnio as they found an echogenic intracardiac focus, and I was high risk from my triple test (I already know it's negative for Downs though as I had those results back in 48 hours).

popsycal · 03/11/2004 19:11

hi all
so sorry that you ladies are going through this. there is another thread going at the moment which i will try to locate for you about 'soft markers'. hugs

Leogaela · 04/11/2004 10:04

Hello all,

Just found this website! Due March 12th!

I had the triple test that indicated a high risk of a downs or another chromosonal problem. so I understand your anxiety. The amnio isn't a very pleasant thing to have done, but i am glad i did it. It is a tough one to decide to do it or not, but if you make sure you have someone very experienced to do and look after yourself afterwards the risks are very very low. Thankfully for me everything is OK but I would have preferred to know if something was wrong. There is a lot of support out there for you if problems really do show up and you can prepare for it better, can inform yourself better and give yourself the opportunity to decide what you want to do.
Good luck!

Pidge · 04/11/2004 10:33

Welcome to the march gang Leogaela! And congratulations on your pregnancy.

Milkybarkid - are you getting good counselling on your decision about amnio? It's not something you should be left to decide on your own - the hospital should be able to offer you support and guidance to reach a decision you're happy with. Plus there are lots of threads on here if you do a search with some really useful information. A very important factor is what you would do with the information you might get from the amnio - if you would continue with the pregnancy, then you need to ask if it's worth the risk of the test.

Babster - hope the full results of your amnio come soon and put your mind at rest.

I have my 23 week scan tomorrow and just found out that dp has been given permission from his work to have time off to attend, which I'm really pleased about.

munchkinsusie · 04/11/2004 13:25

sorry to hear so many of you are having problems showing up. it must be really tough to make the decision as to what to do. we decided to not even have the triple blood test done since it was so inaccurate. we only had the anomoly scan because it gives you another chance to look at baby - had completely forgotten there was another point to it until the person doing it started going through what she'd be looking for etc. to me, what pidge said makes a lot of sense in terms of knowing what action you would take as a result of the information. good luck with it all.

pidge - good luck with your scan tomorrow. so pleased your dh can go with you - i think it would be such a shame for them not to be involved as seeing the detail of the scan is amazing. and of course, they can provide the much needed support at these times.

bonym · 04/11/2004 16:46

Very sorry to hear about the worries that a couple of you currently have - hope everything turns out ok whatever you decide to do - thinking of you.
Good luck for tomorrow Pidge - hope your scan goes well. Sweeny, wasn't your scan today? Hope all ok. Welcome to Leogaela - good to have another one on-board! Hope everyone else is ok at the moment. I'm finally getting my energy back, so have ditched my afternoon naps - problem is I'm still wasting my afternoons away, web-surfing - oh well, best go and do something about getting tea ready for dd!

hi everyone.
i was sorry to read of the difficult times you are going thru milkybarkid and babster. glad things have worked out ok for you babster. i had my 20week scan on thurs, thanks for remembering boneym, and all seems great. we were thrilled tho a little subdued after . we looked away when he was looking at the sex, so still a mystery tho someone in the world knows which is strange.
take care all

bonym · 07/11/2004 17:49

Brilliant news babster.

And hooray misdee that the sickness is finally going. May the blooming commence!

Sweeney - great news on the scan front. All was well with ours too and we resisted finding out the gender too. I felt it was too early for me, if I was offered another chance to find out at 35 weeks I'd probably go for it. Was anyone else offered an internal scan to measure cervix length as a possible indicator of premature labour? Might be just a King's thing, as I think in my last pregnancy they were doing this as part of a research project, but now it seems to be standard practice there.

Had a great weekend - with little fireworks party for dd and 2 other 2 year olds on Friday night. Dd was SHAKING with terror after the first one, but then loved watching from inside the kitchen through the window!

Also visited dd's new 2 week old cousin, who she was very taken with. Long may her fascination with babies continue!

ZoeC · 08/11/2004 12:08

Its great hearing about all the scans - I've got mind tomorrow and am really looking forward to it.

Pidge - I had three internal (vaginal) scans to measure my cervix with dd as I'd had a previous cervical biopsy following a smear so they wanted to check for cervical incompetency. This time, as I'd 'proved' competent in that area I didn't have any at all (thankfully .

Will let you know tomorrow how my scan goes (or maybe day after as my mum is up and I don't get on the pc much when she's here.)

NewYorktoLondon · 08/11/2004 12:11

Good to hear that scans went well, and Milkybarkid we are certainly thinking about you.

Pidge, I did have the internal scan done to check the length of my cervix. There is a low probability of this leading to premature birth - but still is a risk if your cervix is much shorter than average - I think it goes up to like 2%. Mine, luckily, ended up being fine.

I had a regular 20 weeks scan today, and very very luckily everything seems to be in place.

This weekend though, I started getting these really bad cramps/pains on my right side. They seem to be worst in the morning though my lower back (on the same side) is also hurting. Has anyone else had this - could this just be growing pains?

Pidge · 08/11/2004 12:19

ZoeC - I had the internal scan done in my last pregnancy too, so wasn't expecting it to be done this time round. But the chappy in charge reckoned it can change from pregnancy to pregnancy.

NewYorkToLondon - that's an interesting figure about the risk increase - it's pretty low isn't it. In the end I agreed to the scan, but sometimes I do wonder about the value of all this stuff. Lucky for me all was well and I didn't have to face decisions about further treatment.

Milkybarkid - hope you are doing ok.

munchkinsusie · 10/11/2004 13:31

ZoeC how did your scan go?

NY2L - i get really bad pains in my abdomen which i put down to growing pains. they're definitely worse when i'm overdoing it - if i sit down and relax for half an hour they go away. i reccon it's my bodies way of saying slow down.

misdee - good to hear your feeling a bit better.

milkybarkid - how are you doing? have you managed to come to a decision yet. we're all thinking of you.

i'm doing well, lots of movement from the little one now which is lovely. although i seem to be unusually tired this week - maybe it's putting on a growth spurt? i'm also bursting out of my work trousers - really need to buy some maternity one's but am trying to wait till i have time to get to a next/dorothy perkins that stocks the maternity range as mine don't and i really need a short length which mothercare don't seem to do.

ZoeC · 10/11/2004 14:44

Hi,

Thanks for asking, munchkinsusie. My mum was up so I didn't get on to post yesterday. Scan was great - got all the measurements and everything seemed fine. They confirmed that my placenta is at the front, which I kind of knew as I don't feel as much movement as I did with dd, and it's always round the side of my stomach, never at the front. Confirmation just means I don't need to worry about it, which is great.

We found out we're having another dd - I honestly thought it was going to be a boy so came as a bit of a shock, but dh is thrilled as dd is a real daddy's girl and I think he likes the adoration lol! Does anyone else know what they're having?

I'm full time in maternity clothes now - I'm bigger than I was first time round at this stage but at least I'm past that aggravating 'fat but not pg shape' stage.

I've got the rest of the week of work now (i work evenings) so I'm going to try and get some rest as I'm so tired.

Hope everyone is well, and thinking of you Milkybarkid with the decision you're making.

Pidge · 11/11/2004 13:32

Brilliant news on your scan ZoeC. And congratulations on another dd. I'm convinced I'm having a boy this time round, because I had a dd last time. Like that's logical! But we'll remain in the dark till the big day.

I've been out of normal clothes for a while now - I reckon I'm about a month further on in terms of bump size than I was last time round. Feeling elephantine and hoping the bulge slows down soon!

Munchkinsusie - I always have problems with trouser length too (am 5'4") and ended up paying to have all my new maternity trousers taken up by 2-3 inches!

Leogaela · 11/11/2004 15:18

H&M also do maternity clothes and I found the stretchy trousers shrunk in length when I first washed them so no need to take them up!

Boy or girl??? I had an amnio so I can find out for 100% certainty now! DP wants to know as we have drawn a blank on boys names, but somehow for me it is too early to know. Knowing will make it all seem real, and as this is my first I am not quite so cool about it or prepared as some of you seem to be!

Why is it that boys names are so difficult!

popsycal · 11/11/2004 15:19

HI all

All this talk of finding out the sex has made me wish I had.

24 weeks today and counting
still on the sick

Pidge · 11/11/2004 15:21

Leogaela - I feel exactly the same - it's too early for me, if I was offered another chance to know at say 35 weeks, I'd probably go for it. Also am completely stuck on boys names, which is what happened last time round! We got a girl and so there were no arguments. I do quite enjoy this dithering though, and won't completely decide until I actually try the name out on the baby.

My hennes trousers were way too long - but I am a bit of a midget!

Pidge · 11/11/2004 15:22

Hi poppsycal - posts crossed - is your bp still up? Just try to enjoy the time off and relax. Though I confess, I'd be going a bit stir crazy.

popsycal · 11/11/2004 15:23

bp is at the high end of normal....but struggling to keep my head above the water at work
sick is precautionary really...

and i am going stir crazy!

Leogaela · 11/11/2004 17:09

Yes, I like not knowing the sex as well! And although you have to have ideas for names you are right about trying it out on the baby once its born.

Sorry about the high bp Popsycal. Does the doctor know what is causing it? How do you stay motivated to work though??? Since I got over the sickness phase I thought I would get my enthusiasm and focus back, but things that I would have found exciting and challenging at work before now seem such a boring waste of effort and if it is anything that makes me feel in the slight bit stressed I run a mile from it! Maybe it will be time to change my job when I come back? or is this a normal symptom of pregnancy?

ZoeC · 11/11/2004 17:46

I dithered and dithered about knowing - I wouldn't have dreamt of finding out with dd as she was my first, but I could see too many good reasons for knowing this time round - I think I can make it seem more 'real' for dd this way, I know whether I need different clothes (I can get them cheap at work but I won't get the chance after the birth). Plus I was convinced it would be a boy and this way I get the chance to get used to the idea!
