Hello ladies,
Can I join too? I've been lurking for ages and am now biting the bullet! I'm expecting number 2 and am 11 weeks pregnant and due on the 11th Nov. It's reassuring to know so many of you feel rough too. My GP says I've got hyperemesis and pills haven't made a bit of difference. However my first scan is on Friday so we'll see what the consultant has to say. Now I remember why I swore blind four years ago I'd never go through this again.

choudru · 25/04/2007 13:28

Welcome Holly, Bearus, Twinkie

Loopy - well done on getting DH to cook. Must admit there has been very little cooking going on chez choudru. We are living on ready meals and my mum's cooking. Not great because I can't stand most ready meals

Germangal - I made enquiries about ante-natal yoga and they said they recommend you don't do it until 14th week. Will be getting in touch with them next week - will be good to get out of the house and be active.

Would like to do aquanatal classes but that would mean I'd have to muster up the energy to wax my legs

Had my booking in appointment yesterday - heard baby's heartbeat. Was amazing to hear proof that there actually IS a baby wriggling around in there

Told her about Strep B history and she gave me my big yellow sticker he he.

I think my care will be consultant led because of DS being premmie. Hope we can avoid the same thing happening again.

Roll on scan next week...!

Starting to feel like we are making some progress now that we are all around 3 month mark.

geekInPigtails · 25/04/2007 14:03

hello all. I'm another one who said hello a while back but haven't posted in ages. Well I had my 12-week scan on Monday and saw a healthy little baby with fluttery little heartbeat, and we've started telling more people in the real world too, so I'm feeling a good deal more confident

I'm also starting to feel slightly better physically too. Still need at least 10 hours sleep, but the nausea isn't quite so bad every day, which is a relief. This is my first, so my jeans are only just starting to feel too tight - I'm going to have to find time to look for maternity stuff soon. Don't know why, but I'm actually quite scared about shopping for maternity stuff - is that weird? I think it's just that I don't really LOOK pregnant yet, so I imagine every looking at me thinking "What is she doing?!" Anyone got any recommendations of shops to try? I'd rather go somewhere I can try things on, than shop online I think.

choudru · 25/04/2007 14:45

Hi Geekinpigtails,

I always found great maternity stuff in H&M. Dorothy Perkins larger stores are good too. You also have Next and Bloomin Marvellous (used to go to Bluewater one but they may have stores nationwide).

Mamas and Papas do absolutely gorgeous stuff but it's a bit pricey.

There's mothercare as well - they do nice stuff.

We are luck that the shops are full of smock tops - nipped in just below the bust and then loose over the stomach. Very flattering for growing bumps.

It does feel strange when you first buy maternity clothes

choudru · 25/04/2007 14:48

By the way I forgot to say thankyou for all the advise regarding thrush treatments!

Thanks FCH, Pheebe, Loopy - will be trying the tea tree first...

choudru · 25/04/2007 14:50

P.S. Geekinpigtails, check what discounts you can get through mumsnet. Just noticed you get 10% off first order at Blooming Marvellous.

geekInPigtails · 25/04/2007 18:22

good tips, thanks choudru!

Hi everyone. Morning sickness came back this morning and I had a terrible headache for 3 days running, which seems to have eased today.
I have just recieved my Healthy start vouchers, which can be used for milk, and fruit and veg. If you are on benifits or a low income make sure you claim them, they are worth £2.80 a week and when baby is born its £5.60. You have to ask your midwife but you can claim from 10 weeks HTH someone.

choudru · 26/04/2007 10:35

Hi Loopy - you sound like you are more tired than you realise. Time to squeeze a little more rest out of the day if you can.

I have given up on most of my housework since becoming pregnant. Just do the basics.

They don't know why I had DS early last time. My pregancy was fine up until waters broke at 30 weeks.

The theories have been wild and varied. Nothing very scientific though. Am hoping they can get to the bottom of it this time...

The funny thing was that at about 20 weeks I had the vaginal scan thing to check for how likely I would be to have premature birth and was classified as very very unlikely. I think they measure length of something?

SparklyGothKat · 26/04/2007 10:43

I have had 3 premature babies and they still have no idea why.

choudru · 26/04/2007 10:49

Sparkly - did you get extra antenatal care for 2nd pregnancy onwards?

Feel for you with sickness - am still puking as well.

Not long now - it has to wear off soon!

SparklyGothKat · 26/04/2007 10:53

not with my 2nd one, My 3rd pregnancy was all with the consulant, They never investigated as to why though. This pregnancy I have already seen the consulant and am on aspirin to thin my blood, have to have scans evry 4 weeks, have been tested for a chemical inbalance that can cause preterm labour, will be admitted at 28 weeks to have steroid injections, and have a yellow sticker on my notes as dd1 had GBS.

choudru · 26/04/2007 13:06

I will be on monthly scans as well apparently. I think I will find out for certain at scan appointment on tuesday.

I can't believe they didn't begin your special care with pregnancy number 2

They gave me steroids when my waters broke at 30 weeks - does that delay labour?

I thought of you when MW gave me yellow sticker

SparklyGothKat · 26/04/2007 13:10

The thing is that DS was only born at 35 +5 weeks so they weren't too worried as they thought that I would/could carry that far again. In fact dd1 was born at 31 weeks and then dd2 was 33 weeks. I want to get to 36 weeks. I will be happy with 36 weeks, its my goal!!
Steriod injections are to mature the baby's lungs, you are supposed to have one lot and then another lot 12 hours later for them to work properably, but I never got the 2nd lots as I delivered before the 12 hours.

SparklyGothKat · 26/04/2007 13:12

the drug they give to delay/stop labour, I can't have as when I had it with DD2, my heartrate went to 136bmp and I was very sick, they had to stop it immediately as I was at risk of heart failure

choudru · 26/04/2007 13:18

I would be very happy with 36 weeks as well. Let's pray we last that long!

Heart failure?! Your DH must have been petrified.

It's amazing you haven't been put off having children.

I do admire you - I have decided this will be my last one. If I'd have had a better experience of pregnancy I would have liked to have 3 but never mind.

SparklyGothKat · 26/04/2007 13:23

DH wasn't with me at that point. They put the drip in and started it at 5ml/hour which didn't stop the contractions, no effects on me at that point, they decided to keep upping it till I was having 30ml/hour which stopped the contractions, but suddenly my heart started racing, my head was pounding, I felt sick, couldn't eat, suddenly felt very faint. I managed to press my buzzer (as the stupid midwife had left me alone, while in preterm labour) and she came down and realised what was happening and stopped the drug.

just wanted to say hellooo if its not too late to join this thread!

i am due 9th nov so will be 12 weeks tomorrow, have fairly horrendous indigestion and v tired but other than that feel surprisingly human

this is no3, already have ds1 who is 6 and ds2 who is 8 months who are both luvverly

oh and i'm 29, sahm and live in sheffield

SparklyGothKat · 26/04/2007 18:42

The midwife kept leaving me alone when I was in labour with DD2, My parents came to see me in the evening, we watched a bit of telly together and I was having strong contractions. When my parents left they went to the midwife station and said that they thought someone should check on me, as noone had come to check on me the 2 hours they were there.
In fact, about 2 hours before dd2 was born, the midwife came down after I pressed the buzzer, and said 'you are not dealing with the pain, I am going to give you pefadine (sp?)' I refused as I know that it can cause breathing problems, she insisted and insisted. In the end she just gave it to me Dd2 was born 2 hours later with an arger score of 5. The midwife refused to examine me 'in case you are not in labour, I might trigger it, and anyway your contractions are not strong enough to open your cervix'
When I woke 1 hour before dd2 was actually born, I pressed the buzzer and my mum's old neighbour (who's a midwife) came in, she didn;t realise I was in there, but she did examine me and I was 8cm dilated.

SparklyGothKat · 26/04/2007 18:46

oh and my midwife was on 'lunch' my mum's old neighbour delivered dd2 which I was very grateful for, as I think I would have hit the other one

2nd midwife was very good, and didn;t make me lay on my back for the deliverly (as the doctor did with dd1) she held the monitor in place while I was pushing.

As for the other midwife....... I really could have hit her, she was useless. She wanted an easy deliverly and if that meant drugging me to shut me up, she did it. That is another reason I have refused to have this baby at that hospital.

SparklyGothKat · 26/04/2007 20:01

I remember saying 'I don't want pethidine, I could be in preterm labour, but you won't examine me to find out, and that causes breathing problems if I deliver within 4 hours' Her response was 'oh you won't deliver within 4 hours and anyway your contractions aren't strong enough to open your cervix' I said no again, she just jabbed in it.
