Lol GermalGal - didn't think of Ashtanga - I can understand your teacher's concern now! Could you switch classes to a Hatha class?

Debbsyandson · 18/04/2007 09:28

im from the nov 06 thread just wanted to wish you ladies lots of luck and enjoy your pg its a magical time (sigh)

tryingfortwo · 18/04/2007 10:10

Hi Germangal and fees. Congratulations - god, the german efficiency seems to be true Germangal what with all your scans and stuff, very jealous. God, I can't do ashtanga yoga when I'm not pregnant, it is soo hard.

I'm feeling like a big lardy ass though as I was running 4 or 5 times a week prior to the bfp and have only been out 2 or 3 times since. Tried last week but could hardly manage mile and a half I was so breathless, plus totally paranoid about bringing on SPD as I had it v early last time. So, going to go join the aqua arobics and swimming and start walking - cough cough, well thats what I'm talking about anyway!!

My dd was up from 3.30 in morning and only went back over about 7 this morning so I'm wrung oot, but never mind, washing ironing, shopping and starting the packing for me today - oh the excitement!!!

GermanGal · 18/04/2007 11:38

Iris66 - I think I will try Hatha soon....just need to find a good teacher (oh dear, am I fussy or what??)

tryingfortwo - yeah, this is the first time I actually appreciate the German efficiency - usually it goes on my nerves It's great though to have a scan every two weeks or even spontanously, if you have any concerns.... they also monitor your blood and everything else on a regular basis... having said that, I'm still just as paranoid about every little twitch and cramp
I'm with you on the exercise bit.... used to do something 3-4 times a week, and now....nada.... no bloody energy... but I bought those terribly ugly MBT trainers, so work a bit harder when I'm going for walks (i.e. shopping).... !! They are great!!!!

LucyK1978 · 18/04/2007 12:55

Hi everyone! Can I join the chat? I am pregnant for first time, due November 17th so not really told many people yet and bursting to talk about it, all so exciting! Feel sick pretty much all day every day, and soooooo tired! But all with a huge grin as am so happy to be pg!

I also live in Germany (Munich) and have been very impressed with the medical system here so far (not that I've ever had baby in UK to compare to!) We had scan at 6 weeks and 8 weeks and another one tomorrow which will be '10th week' (ie I am 9 weeks + 4 days so am I 9 weeks or 10 weeks no idea!!!) Seen the heatbeat but rest of the scan was all a bit fuzzy!!

SparklyGothKat · 18/04/2007 12:58

A scan at 10 weeks is fab. I had one last week at 9+5, and you could see the arms, legs, head and body. If you look at my profile there is a pic of it.

LucyK1978 · 18/04/2007 13:03

@ Sparkly - WOW that scan photo is fantastic! Thank you for uploading it for us to see.

The last scan we had at 8 weeks was very vague and looked like a baked bean (hence bump nickname 'bean'!) I can't wait for tomorrow and hope our scan is as clear as yours. Up to now all scans have been internal so maybe tomorrow will be over the belly? (Sorry if TMI !) Not sure which type of scan gives the clearer image?

GermanGal · 18/04/2007 13:30

Hi LucyK1978, I think I am a week ahead of you and had my last scan last week....which was still vaginal, I'm afraid... but at that stage very clear.... I saw arms and legs and a proper human being, rather than a bean And it's wriggling around, so you are going to love it tomorrow!!!!
Funny that you mentioned the 9+5/10th week confusion.... it took me about a month to get my head around it
Is it a German thing????

LucyK1978 · 18/04/2007 13:35

tee hee maybe it is a German thing - my doctor here says I am '10 weeks' but the books / website (not that I spend my whole day browsing or anything?!) say I am '9 weeks' so none the wiser...!

I've heard that after 12 weeks it is safer not to scan internally, not sure how true that is, so hopefuly soon will be over the tummy scans!

GermanGal · 18/04/2007 13:42

If you are 9+5, you have completed 9 full weeks and 5 days of the 10th, so you are "in" your 10th week ("in der zehnten Woche") .... would be good to find out if that is a German terminology only - to make it more difficult??
Let me know about the scan, I want a tummy one too!!!!

Fingernails · 18/04/2007 13:53

Hello everyone, had the scan this morning and everything is fine - measured 21mm which puts me at 8wks +6, a couple days more than I think I am but whatever - there is a heartbeat!!!!

GermanGal, on one of the many many many websites I've been scouring it says 'You are [for example] 8 weeks and 6 days pregnant, or in your ninth week, if you prefer'. So it seems to be a preferenc thing.

I'm being a completely lazy cow at the moment and am really not looking forward to the bmi moment. Although I'm not necessarily helping myself, having devoured several easter eggs and just polished off a large plateful of cheese on toast....

Pheebe · 18/04/2007 14:33

Hi All and welcome to all the new faces
Just had to share this with you. Told DS (2+7) that mummys got a new baby in her tummy this morning. He's been learning about growing up at nursery and he found his scan pictures so I had already explained those to him. He seemed to understand wot I was saying and asked if he could see the new baby yet, I explained we had to wait until it was big enough to come out of mummys tummy. He thought for a moment and then asked if he could sing a song for it and he sang it rock-a-bye baby (a song I sing to him all the time)!!! I love him sooooo much

LucyK1978 · 18/04/2007 14:37

@ Pheebe, your son sounds like a real cutie, it's amazing how quickly they understand about something so monumental, and how somehow they know just the sweetest thing to say!

@ Fingernails, congratulations on the heartbeat, it's amazing to see for the first time isn't it? Hope all continues to go so well for you both.

GermanGal · 18/04/2007 14:59

Fingernails - congratulations! I bet you are over the moon....it's such a relief, isn't it??

Pheebe - your son sounds adorable....you must be so proud!!!! Cannot wait to have one of those cuties.... roll on November!!

Congratulations fingernails, great news, sorry I didn't say so earlier I was all loved up from DS. Reminded me why I put myself through this over and over again
All you first timers, it is sooooo worth all the struggle

choudru · 19/04/2007 14:39

Congrats fingernails and pheebs - i can't wait to be in your position. Still not 100% hit me that there is a 'bean' inside me too!

How is everyone getting on with MS and fatigue? My MS has worsened - been vomiting daily. But this seems to be a signal that it is about to end God Willing. Was certainly the case with DS.

Had to make the journey to M&S this weekend to buy (whisper) bigger knickers. Don't tell anyone

Much more comfortable in them though he he.

Also had to get the maternity jeans out.

Am about as big as I was at 4.5 months with DS!

As for the 'what week are you in' question, I much prefer to say I am in 12th week (am 11+5). It makes me feel like I am further on in pregnancy.

Can I ask a question? What supplements - if any - is everyone taking? I am taking pregnacare and recently started taking mumomega (3for2 at boots he he).

Better put DS down for a nap now. Pheebs your DS sounds like a darling!!!

nykate · 20/04/2007 09:48

hee hee, choudru. I know what you mean about the knickers and maternity jeans. I feel about 5 months preg and am only 10 weeks!

So glad to hear about all of the good news scans ! It must be such a relief!

MS is still going strong, but seemed to have settled into a pattern. Basically, I throw up three times a day around the same time each day. Gagging/nausea in between. Overall, still MUCH better than with my last two pregnancies. Hopefully it will end in a few weeks!

AnnainNZ · 21/04/2007 10:06

I've just found this website, wish I knew about it weeks ago! Am 11 wks pg, due 6th Nov. Have known since 1st March and have been dying to talk about it but am not telling people till after first trimester, so have just been going on and on to dh about ms, tiredness etc etc. Why does no one know about the tiredness? Everyone's heard of morning sickness but the tiredness is such a suprise, I've been going to bed at 8.30 for the last 5 weeks! Definitely getting better now (the tiredness and ms) which is a huge relief and having first scan next Friday.

Great to read the other posts and realise other people are feeling the same things as me.

tryingfortwo · 21/04/2007 10:57

Hi AnnainNZ, welcome to the board. Yes the tiredeness is the main killer for me too.

I'm on for some reassurance. I had some brown spotting last night before bed. Panicked and was at the toilet checking through the night, nothing more, all clear and no pain. i shouldn't be worrying - should I????

Pheebe · 21/04/2007 15:57

Hi tyingfortwo
Doesn't sound like anything to worry about at this stage. Spotting is really common, especially early on. Things to be concerned (and seek medical advice over) are bright red spotting/bleeding, pain and cramping. Keep an eye on it and try not to worry too much.

I've been mega uncomfortable all day. not really crampy just uncomfortable. Just checked hb and thats fine so I;m putting it down to growing pains. Latest estimate is I'm 13+3 now which puts me firmly in the October thread but I may just hang about a bit longer.

easywriter · 21/04/2007 18:40

Hi everyone, haven't been around for ages mainly to minimise the whinging I'd have subjected you to (been feeling tres, tres pants (mentally and physically). Feeling better (mentally) now though).

The MS hasn't gone. Everytime I think it's gone, it floors me for a day just to show me who's boss.

Anyway, to Snig. Don't feel down about your BMI. Mine's horrific! I seem to have conceived both my pregnancies when I've weighed the max I've ever weighed. I do as much exercise as I can (since discovering I was preggers and noting my svelteness!) and I am v. careful about what I eat.
I know it seems crazy but it need not be the cause for doom and gloom - I promise!

Confession (that's sure to have everyone up in arms) I'm dieting. Last pregnancy I did slimming world, this time I'm doing weight watchers. I'm doing core (if you don't know what I'm banging on about rejoice in the fact you're not fat!) not points (v. similar to slimming world's diet) so basically I get to cook all my food from scratch with fresh ingredients and frankly I couldn't eat more healthily. Clearly I'd be lying if I said I wasn't gutted that I can't eat for two (the size of my ar*e is a clear indication that that's what I've been up to these past three years) but I'm trying to eat efficiently on behalf on my babe (or babes -no scan yet) and trying to view my weight loss as a bonus. I'm not suggesting you follow suit but just thought I'd share.

The outcome from my last pregnancy was fantastic! I gained just over a stone (mostly in the last 6 weeks) and gave birth to healthy twin daughters at 40 +3, who needed no more than the blood wiped of them before being passed to us and weighted in at 7lb 1oz and 7lbs. I had no health problems at all, all pregnancy.

Loopymumsy - you may still get your wish for twins. I had no sickness at all with my twin pregnancy. This time, I'm sick but I don't know how many babes there are this time.

SGK and all you mums-to-be out there- (having reread the thread) congratulations on your scans!

I'm in my maternity stuff. It doesn't quite stay up in the way it should but normal stuff is too tight around my waist and belly(and I am 7lbs lighter than I was when I found out I was up the duff!)
Do I look pregnant in this?

easywriter · 21/04/2007 21:55

Lordie! I know how to kill a conversation stone dead!

Morning comrades,

Hi easywriter - your diet sounds more like making sure you are eating healthily to me. Ensures you don't eat too many empty calories and also maximises vitamins and minerals etc for you and baby. Nothing wrong with that!

I remember when I was pregnant with DS, none of my friends were mums so didn't understand when I was exhausted. One even asked me if it wasn't perhaps 'in my mind' because obviously pregnant women only get tired when they get big! I was like - get on the internet and do some research and THEN get back to me. She did and ate her words...

I don't think our men really understand how exhausting it is either. Do they know the difference between feeling 'quite tired' and 'so tired that I'm dying for the loo and for half and hour I have been gathering up enough willpower to get up and go'?

Midwife appointment tomorrow - need to ask her about thrush. Sorry if it's too much detail but I have it and it's driving me crazy. Don't know if it's common during pregnancy or if it's a Strep B thing?

Anyway, vagisil and caniston say don't use during pregnancy so I need advice.

Welcome AnnainNZ - is this your first?
