Hi......anyone out there just found out they're expecting? Thought it might be nice to start a little thread!
I've tested this morning and got a feint BFP, have recently had 2 m/c so may be being optimistic but I'm tired of worrying!! If it works out it works out!! Fingers crossed. If it's a sticky one I'm due bonfire night! 5/11/17.
Anyone else out there the same??Smile

@Hazandduck I had a Doppler for my daughter 5 years ago so got it back from a friend (let her borrow it when she was pregnant) and thought I would give it a go.

I bought it online, so low medical grade, but it seems to do the job.

The sac / placenta makes a very specific noise when you are over the top of it which is the only way I have found heartbeats.

Hazandduck · 03/04/2017 08:07

That's so lovely you've heard it! I bought a Doppler with my last pregnancy but don't think I ever heard the heartbeat. I'm too scared to try now. How are you feeling? I'm 8+2 today and feel like I've been run over pretty much, so tired and achy x

Oddsocksforeveryone · 03/04/2017 09:07

@durezidal ive got a doppler and heard heartbeat. Managed to record it on my phone so I can listen to it :)

JulyLady7 · 03/04/2017 09:39

Oh wow. What a relief it must be to hear the heartbeat. I have thought so hard about getting a doppler; as much as it would ease my mind, I think I'm not going to as if I can't find it, I will be in a panic. The Dr also said if I (not being trained) will find it hard to distinguish between the noise the placenta makes and the heartbeat. I know it would really ease my anxiety though!

Hazandduck · 03/04/2017 10:26

When can you first detect the heartbeat? I think once I've had a scan I may try it. I'm still kind of denying that this pregnancy will last at the moment! I'm only 8 weeks atm so think I'll struggle to find it. X

Stilyaga · 04/04/2017 09:45

Hello. This is my first ever post after lurking for the LONGEST time.

I'm tentatively joining as I found out I was pregnant in Feb with my first, but after an early miscarriage in January - the first time we had ever tried - and an early "reassurance" scan for this one that measured small and didn't reassure me at all Sad, I'm feeling rather jaded. Thus, I've been trying not to jinx things by joining forums/looking at baby clothes/even talking about it at all.

However, keeping it to myself is starting to wear me out as, to be honest, I'm finding that the first trimester of pregnancy kiiiind of sucks!! (who knew, right? Wink) So I am in dire need of a support network.

I'm going to go back and read through this entire thread but I just wanted to say it's nice to meet you all, and I wish the best for all of us due in November :)

xx

Stilyaga · 04/04/2017 12:51

p.s. I'd like to attempt a quick poll: if any of you are due around Nov 8th and/or think you conceived on the 14th-15th of Feb, how many weeks would you say you are today? I've been given so many different dates and weeks so I'd love to see the range (if there is one!) :)

bexmwood88 · 04/04/2017 13:01

Hi @Stilyaga

I know exactly what you mean about having to keep it to yourself!

I think the due date is normally worked out from the first day of your last period. Anyhow, to answer your question, I am due on 10 November. First day of last period was 3 Feb, pretty sure I conceived on 19/20 Feb (I had ovulation pain on 20 Feb). I would say I am now 8 weeks + 4 days.

Sorry that's quite long - I'm new to this too and haven't fathomed all the abbreviations yet!

Stilyaga · 04/04/2017 13:33

Hi @Bex :) Thanks for your response. I'm all new to this as well and it's slightly overwhelming.

Your numbers were really helpful. At the beginning, I had been doing those online calculator things which default your cycle to 28 days, which gave me a due date of Nov 3rd, but when I went for an early scan (7 weeks 6 days based on that) it measured 6 weeks 4 days. EEK. I know early scan measurements are notoriously poop, but still.

But then I realised that my cycles are NOT 28 days; more like 33! So as soon as I changed those settings on the calculators, the weeks and due date were (obviously) earlier. So it was more like 5 days off than 10.

Anyway, I would now say I'm 8 weeks 6 days, which fits perfectly with where you are! Let's see whether anyone else has anything to add.

Sorry for the essay... First trimester nerves - especially after miscarriage - have got to be worse than labour, right?! Grin

Stilyaga · 04/04/2017 13:35

p.s. my last period was technically a miscarriage, AND the first/last time I conceived I'm almost 100% sure it was really early in the month... thus throwing my dates out the window even more! Confused

bexmwood88 · 04/04/2017 16:03

@Stilyaga I can see how that would get confusing! Glad I could be of some help.

As for labour not being as bad as this bit - I'm not so sure! Confused I try not to think about it..!

cnew · 04/04/2017 16:22

Hi! Im pretty sure I conceived on 13th Feb. Last period started on 2nd Feb and my EDD is the 9th Nov, so I think I am 8 + 5 today.

Hazandduck · 04/04/2017 17:08

Welcome stilyaga and sorry for your loss. A few of us have had miscarriages before and understand completely how you feel. I'm 8+3 and convince myself it's over at least ten times a day. My poor boobs have never been so prodded and poked! Will you be having another early scan? X

Mummyagainmaybe · 04/04/2017 17:30

Labour. Em. The good thing is the hormone that makes you forget about it is pretty effective, but I do remember how I rated it at the time.

Good luck with the scans everyone x

Stilyaga · 04/04/2017 18:11

Thanks for the responses, folks. Nice to be able to talk about this stuff with people who get it.

If I was made of money, I'd probably have a scan every week!! But honestly I just feel like any other early scan before my 12 week NHS one (booked for April 26th) has so much potential to make me panic/over analyse/obsessively Goole more than just not having a scan.

I figured as long as I'm not bleeding or doubled over in pain, I should feel quite reassured. The ultrasound lady didn't seem at all phased by the size, and assured us that there was a "good, strong heartbeat", so there's that, I suppose!

The worst thing about loss (other than the loss itself) is how it takes away all the magic and fun of the next pregnancy, especially when you feel like garbage and need a bit of joy to convince you it's worth it!

Anyway, feeling very happy to be surrounded by people literally in the same (rocking, quease-inducing) boat as me!

Mummyosborne1983 · 04/04/2017 21:34

Who's watching One born every minute?

Hazandduck · 04/04/2017 21:43

Mummyosborne I was tempted to but I just can't. I want to get to that stage so badly and it feels painfully far away. I genuinely look forward to getting to labour, I want to know how it feels and experience it and have the reward of a real live baby in my arms. I just can't imagine it now. Sorry that got mega deep! Maybe after 12 weeks I will start to watch it and the fear of labour may kick in 😂

Mummyosborne1983 · 04/04/2017 21:50

@hazandduck I totally get that! I've miscarried before so I'm also panicking and wanting to get to my scan - I just ❤️ OBEM!!

Hazandduck · 04/04/2017 21:59

I love it too! It always makes me cry happy tears! Such an amazing programme. Ugh I know why do these early weeks drag sooo much! Just want to be 12 weeks now! mummyosborne

PingusMistress · 04/04/2017 23:19

For those of you that have already found a heartbeat on a home Doppler, can I ask what position you found it in? As in central, left or right and how far down from your belly button?

Just tried again (after saying I wouldn't) and no luck, starting to freak out a bit.

elio · 05/04/2017 07:03

Please don't panic Pingus, it's super early to look for a heartbeat. Last time the mw wouldn't even attempt it until well past 12w. It will be in a different location for everyone and will move around too.

I can't watch obem anymore 😱

PingusMistress · 05/04/2017 08:43

Thanks for the dose of common sense elio. I didn't even buy the Doppler until 14 weeks last time, but this time it is just so tempting as it is in the house already! Might have to ask DH to hide it until 2nd trimester Smile

I can't watch OBEM without feeling faint so not going to start now! I do think it is good education for what might be coming though, even if they do pick the most sensational to show.

Stilyaga · 05/04/2017 09:38

One Born Every Minute was my guilty pleasure when I was a student... not sure if it would be quite the same to watch it now.

@Hazandduck I totally agree- I used to think labour would be the worst part of all this, but honestly now I'm kind of looking forward to getting there!

Having said that, if all goes well, let's see how chill I am feeling in 7 months Wink

EdgarAllenPoe · 05/04/2017 12:15

In my experience by the time you get to the latter stages of pregnancy you are so uncomfortable and fed up you start to really look forward to labour.

As well as being enormous and very swollen, I had the itchy rash from hell from 37 weeks with my first and the only thing to cure it was giving birth. I couldn't sleep it was so bad! All up my arms and legs and on my bump and between my fingers. It makes my skin crawl to think of it! I had to keep getting my bile salts and liver functions tested but it was never quite bad enough to justify doing anything.

By 40 weeks, I truly didn't care what I had to go through, I was just sick of being pregnant! I was 41+2 by the time I had him. A long induction and emergency c-section in the end - so not ideal - but it was still a huge relief to not be pregnant anymore!

Stilyaga · 05/04/2017 14:48

I have another query for you lovely ladies (seriously, I lurk for 3 months and now I'm posting like a maniac):

How many of you have already told your immediate families, or at least a parent, about your pregnancy?

We told my dad at the weekend and he's told me twice since that he and my step-mum are "very anxious because they know so early". Hmm
