peaches that is fabulous paternity leave. It makes such a difference having help for a bit longer. 2 weeks simply is not long enough.

There have been loads of posts today and can't remember who said what, but for the needle haters you can ask for it to be taken via a butterfly needle in your hand which you barely feel (not bothered about needles personally, but have stupidly small veins and they always struggle on the arm).

WishIWasSleeping · 22/02/2017 18:40

That's fab news peach - I hope your husband is a helpful soul! Smile be much easier to have someone else cook and flick the hoover around whilst you're recovering.

I'm in the 2 blood tests for GTT gang, with results 2 weeks later at my next appt if all well. (Which it was) but I still had to have more blood tests anyway - so that's 4 or 5 sets they've taken so far and all have been ok! I give blood when I can, and I used to have the depot contraceptive so I don't mind though!
Getting fed up of my aches and pains, especially when I'm getting up in the night with the little ones cries. Back to the GP with her on Friday I think. Hopefully I'll get my lie in this Saturday as we have no plans! (8.30am.. woohoo!) Grin
Baby has started to really push out now, so people can see the difference when it moves position... bloomin amazing.
Hope you all have a lovely evening. x

MrsPage yes I've changed recently as the hospital I was going to was an awful journey, and the new one same distance but easier journey by miles. I couldn't fault my midwives and they'll still be the ones to follow up afterwards. I have quite the choice over here in Herts, so I'm really lucky.

I just had one set of bloods done again and at my first booking in appointment which happened at 24 weeks, they gave me appointments for my 28 week growth scan and endocrinologist as well. I'll have my GTT there the day before those appointments. It was mostly easy and I didn't need to say much, in order for them to know what needed to happen. Just the first contact with the midwife was not quite as nice as the original first appointment at 8 weeks with my first team.

uptown8617 · 22/02/2017 19:00

Hi

I had my 28wk appt today and measured small so I've been referred to the consultant and expect I'll have a growth scan. I've seen a few people mention they're having growth scans and wondered if anyone had measured small and then all was fine with the scan. The baby was bang on measurements at the 20 weeks scan and I can see it moving all over the place so I'm not too worried.

PeachIcedT · 22/02/2017 19:16

I have no doubt he'll help out (would be a very willing house husband if only finances allowed). I bought him a nutribullet as a present and he's got it in his head he can create healthy baby food in it... Perhaps one step at a time!

I think long days at work are getting really difficult now - I don't have too many long meetings but plenty of times I've had to stop what I'm saying to grimace at being suddenly kicked! Rasperry I hope you can at least have a straightforward journey home after that long day.

MrsJW enjoy the dinner, even if you'll be eating at my newly adopted bed time Shock.

mightymouse76 · 22/02/2017 19:39

Thanks klane, I think I now have a similar plan to you vanilla. 28 week midwife on Monday, and she's really pushy so will see what she can sort. If it gets bad prior, I'll head back to hospital and plead for the ultrasound.

Raspberry 4.45am here and am so knackered and sore, dinner was a sandwich! Hope you get an early cramp free night!

FoxMulder · 22/02/2017 19:41

What were you measuring uptown? I measured small with DS but everything was fine. I was secretly hoping to measure a bit small today so I could have a scan and see what this placenta is doing!

growcookeat · 22/02/2017 19:42

I'm really struggling at work this week too. On my feet teaching all day which is making my back/feet ache and making me exhausted. I'm going to have to get lazy and get the children to run around after me! Thanks to whoever recommended jojomamanbebe support belt - it's really helping!

Better news though is that when I spoke to the GP about my unusual blood result from 28 week check he said it was just higher levels of white blood cells most likely due to the D&V bug that I was getting over. So nothing to worry about at all! I'm annoyed they didn't just tell me this in the letter they sent and save me 3 days of worry!

Sounds like lots of scans and procedures etc this week! Checks are definitely getting closer together.

MrsJW15 · 22/02/2017 19:46

Peach I wish I was going to be in bed by 9. I've been trying to get out of going. Work is a bit too busy for me to be having these late nights!

RasperryInAMelon · 22/02/2017 20:33

Been home for 20 mins... literally eaten my dinner and am taking myself to bed.

We have friends coming to visit this weekend and I've been fretting about finding the time to clean the house, DH has spent all afternoon doing it for me bless him. New sofa covers are on (what a difference it makes to the room!) hoovering done, all the dusting, washing put away, kitchen, bathroom, toilet and the bedrooms tidied. God knows what I'd do without him Smile

Awesome news about the paternity Leave peach is it statutory or paid? Interested to know what other people's DPs are getting.

savagehk · 22/02/2017 20:51

Surprised you're having a growth scan so early uptown - I'd have thought they'd do it later, if you moved off the 'line' you were on. Hope all is OK, I know there were a lot of ladies having the results of their scans when I was chatting to the consultant, and all of them seemed to be having the 'you were measuring big/small, but the scan has shown everything is OK' chat. So I think they err on the side of caution.

rasperry my OH gets the 2 weeks statutory but also 2 weeks (fully paid) that can be taken at any time in the first year.

Sah1987 · 22/02/2017 21:06

I've become so sensitive today. In all aspects!

My boobs hurt again

& my deputy manager has turned sarcastic fantastic and I know he doesn't mean anything by it but I feel like he's being shitty as he has picked up all my late shifts.

God I just need to sleep

PeachIcedT · 22/02/2017 21:10

They are doubling it from paid two weeks to paid four weeks, which is pretty amazing for an American company, given how shockingly poor maternity leave is in much of the US.

Sounds like a bad day sah, hope you get some good rest tonight.

peasandquiet · 22/02/2017 21:22

Evening all, that's fantastic paternity leave, my husband is using 2 weeks annual leave, can't afford for him to earn £140pw for a fortnight as he is main earner my wage doesn't even cover the mortgage.
I had a slightly shit end to work, boss email me to arrange pay rises for staff including myself, great in theory but the increase is so minimal once pro-rated down it's almost insulting considering as far as I was aware I'm doing a good job. I've completely hit the career ceiling at my office, the massive sacrife of family life.

uptown8617 · 22/02/2017 22:21

Fox I was 25cm and the 10th centile is about 26.5 on my chart so it looks quite far below. My OH is a bit concerned, probably because I told him I expected to be measuring high but I'm kind of looking forward to another chance to see the baby!

Thanks Savage, I'm sure it'll be fine!

uptown8617 · 22/02/2017 22:27

Fox, will they scan later on to check your placenta?

beanandturnip · 22/02/2017 22:38

Got my results from GTT today and all is clear ... good news.

However my iron is low! Which can threaten my homebirth hopes ... need to get the levels up ... any suggestions? Has anyone uses spatone?

uptown its good that they have referred you. With bean (my first) I measured big and went for growth scan and they estimated him to be 9lb which is big for my height. However he was born at 6lb 7oz and considered a small baby (below 10th percentile)
Because of his birth weight I have had routine growth scans with this pregnancy and turnips. But I take them with a pinch of salt as they can be unreliable.

They will check that your placenta is still working correctly and that the blood flow through it looks good etc. The earlier they pick up on a potential problem the better, they have time to fix.

Sorry I can't remember who mentioned Brixton hicks, but I am currently 26+6 and have been having braxton hicks for ages. (3rd baby) I've been in to triage a couple of times but that is due to me having rubbish cervix and have been told to be checked if I have more than 5 bowts in 24 hours. If you are at all worried you should ring, trust your instincts.

newbieho · 22/02/2017 22:42

No paternity leave for DH as he is self-employed. I hope he will be able to stay with me and the baby for a week Confused

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 22/02/2017 22:57

Oh Sah was about to say glad you're happy with the compromise you reached at work but reading to end of thread your day does not sound good. Today, armed with the advice from you lot and HR I spoke to manager again and very nicely called her out. She is now talking in quite different terms including saying that if I can take some of the annual leave after the mat leave it would enable her to extend my maternity cover but the policy is the policy and the rights are on my side. I'm glad I put my big girl pants on and confronted her, can you do same to deputy manager? (For fairness to my manager I'll clarify I think I may have made it sound like she herself works part time or from home - sorry that was my peer managers, she and I both work full time with no regular home working. Cannot fault her dedication that's for sure!)

Wish heels!! I almost permanently gave mine up for flat ankle boots 18 months ago!!

Rasperry I like your name story, I often wonder how folks arrive at their user name. EsmesBees every time I get my Burts Bees out I do a mental wave to you!

Nice cat pics - the baby feels like it's doing those weird cat stretches where they stretch all four paws out together and arch their back tonight. Tummy looking very strange.

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 22/02/2017 23:01

Oh yes, 30 weeks today Bright and other May 3rd ladies - it's suddenly all got so fast!

Badgerbird · 22/02/2017 23:24

Such a busy couple of days on the thread, I can't catch up properly I'm afraid! So sorry to hear so many people suffering one way or another :(

Same here newbie, we both are Confused I'm hoping he will be mostly at home for first 2 weeks with trips to work occasionally as my mum will prob be around a bit too.

Our bump was called blob originally then one day I just called her Rosie totally out of the blue?! That's what we call her for now but it prob won't be her real name, unless of course it really suits her when she arrives :)

Autumnsweater · 23/02/2017 00:43

mrspage I've changed hospitals during this pregnancy, had both scans at the first hospital and have now moved. It was really straightforward.

My DH is taking 4 weeks off with me and baby at the beginning, 2 weeks paid paternity followed by two weeks annual leave. Most of his male colleagues seem to do the same. You can use shared parental leave for this as well I think? He's going to take over parental leave from me for a few months at the end as well.

Sah1987 · 23/02/2017 03:54

See I told you I just sound like a moany cow. I am happy about the compromise however he is making off hand comments about taking it easy etc etc. We are a very sarcastic team & I would normally join in I think I'm just feeling venerable as I'm going off and they've given my job to a "rising star" in the company to manage whilst I'm off.
I will get my management level back however not the actual position necessarily (e.g. If this guy does a superb job) it won't result in a pay gap / loss / lack of opportunity however I like my role as get to deal with lots of customers & build relationships- the other same level roles are all around stock, which I find less "fun"

Meh 4am rant, I'm ok, morning off tomorrow so let's enjoy it x

mrspage1985 · 23/02/2017 06:33

Thanks for the advise for those of you that have moved hospitals
Was it your Midwife's who you asked regarding sorting out the transfer? Am worried my midwife will try to give me the hard sell of the local hospital!

Barnes79 · 23/02/2017 06:33

Sah - I wouldn't have thought they could give your job to the person covering your mat leave, no matter how good a job they do. That sounds vaguely illegal...
