Oh I remember the early days of poonamis. Babygros with that lovely stain up the back...honestly you get over the poo-fear pretty quickly and I've started to actually do services washes on my machine every 3 months or so to clear them out. We didn't start on reusables until DD was 3 months old as we'd be given a huge stash of size 1 nappies. Plus by then you've figured out how to function on however many hours sleep you can snatch and are able to feed yourself/drink hot drinks again. Even then we tiptoed in with one or two reusables a day until we were comfortable that it wasn't going to explode everywhere. When they get bigger you just end up replacing digested food with undigested food. My washing machine is worth it's weight in gold!

Washable wipes are great and you can make them yourself if you don't want to buy/want to save money. I bought white ones along with her nappies initially but cut up some terry towel coloured ones for her hands and face when she started eating.

We didn't have poonamis once DS was weaned I guess as it gets more solid. I am in the disposable camp too, we don't have much outdoor drying space, it's monsoon season right now and I struggle to keep up with the washing as it is! In our current apartment we have a rubbish chute in the utility area so poops are immediately dispatched. Tbh the worst thing for me is the smell (once on solids) which would be a problem either way!

peasandquiet · 27/01/2017 14:39

We use disposable nappies, can't quite get my head round re-usable and I have enough washing as it is. Feel like reusables would discourage my mum and husband from nappy changing and that's the last thing I want to do!
Re-usable wipes are fantastic, we have them for face after meals rather than bottom end. I just sling them in the machine to wash with whatever load goes in next, I think they have saved us a fortune over 18months.

rustler how gorgeous is this! www.jmwkids.co.uk/product/organic-foxy-print-dungaree-romper/

MrsJW15 · 27/01/2017 15:27

What sort of reusable wipes do you all use? I'm not sure I even knew that was a thing!

savagehk · 27/01/2017 15:32

We've got cheeky wipes mostly, which aren't the cheapest but have worked well. Essentially they're just little pieces of towelling, properly edged, and if you buy the kits they also have plastic containers for keeping the clean and used ones in. I tried the essential oils too but really too faffy, so just use plain water and wet them as I need them most of the time. If I was buying new I'd probably just buy the wipes themselves and a bag for the dry ones (just to keep them together) and a bag for the used ones (a 'wet bag', so lined with something waterproof). Or take some pre-wetted ones in a tupperware style container if you think you may need to use them somewhere where there's no water supply, although nowadays we've always got water on us for DS anyway.

Rustler74 · 27/01/2017 15:53

Savage you should be ashamed Wink making me spend even more money on my unborn baby haha! So very cute!
Re wipes, I have bought a nice stash of mamia wipes for when I'm on the go (from Aldi in the baby event), but am planning to go with water wipes after that. I think for at home I will be cutting up some of my old dark coloured towels, to use as wet cloth, so that they can be washed.
Still not sure what to do about changing table though. Does anyone have a suggestion for simple changing table that could go in a relatively small space in the bathroom?

RasperryInAMelon · 27/01/2017 15:58

Rustler you'd have loved the last Aldi event, my friend got all this and has done up her little boys room ahead of his pending arrival... and has decided to call him Marley Fox 🦊

RasperryInAMelon · 27/01/2017 16:07

The rug is from Wilko £20 and still available now 😉

Thanks Rustler! Would love to get some fox stuff for bubs and the nursery!

Rasperry* I can't say how jealous I am of your friend's fox theme!! All from Aldi? Love the rug and the mobile in the second set of pics!!

KLane & Redblu- I know the feeling! Defo don't want to go through this again!

FoxMulder · 27/01/2017 16:18

I bought cloth wipes from the pound shop for DS!

EsmesBees · 27/01/2017 17:23

Another vote for cheeky wipes.

CinnamonTwist · 27/01/2017 17:46

I might be being dim here... but what is the difference between 'reusable wipes' and a flannel???

savagehk · 27/01/2017 17:53

cinnamon probably just size? Flannels are normally bigger?

1004Rise · 27/01/2017 18:04

Does anyone remember those heady days when maternity tights were THE most comfortable thing ever..... why is it now I want to rip them off by about 3 in the afternoon?!? Hmm

Think I may have to grow bra shopping again, not so much cup size but band size is now the problem. Are they ever going to stop growing? Blush

I do really need to start writing down all this useful voice of experience information, so useful!!

Warning baby brain is catching, after taking the micky out of me for putting a cup a soup in a cup and wandering off and forgetting about it, DH proceeded to make coffee without putting a cup in the machine Grin

EsmesBees · 27/01/2017 18:12

Reusable wipes are made of different material to flannels. They are a like small versions of microfibre cleaning cloths.

RasperryInAMelon · 27/01/2017 18:21

Rise I'm still finding my tights comfy, but they seem to be crazy loose right at the top. I've resorted to pulling them upto my boobs and stuffing the top under my bra 🙈

OP posts:
1004Rise · 27/01/2017 19:03

Hmmm maybe that's my problem Rasperry they don't reach that far up anymore Confused they get just over the point of my bump and then spend the day creeping down!! Hmm

savagehk · 27/01/2017 19:27

My reusable wipes are little bits of towel, rather than little bits of microfibre.

1004 have you tried bra extenders? www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/4pack-bra-extenders-a9182.html

Rabbitykins55 · 27/01/2017 20:09

Rise I got an bra extender from Marks and Spencer, it's been really useful!

WishIWasSleeping · 27/01/2017 20:31

Badger - PFB is Precious First Born...
it's crazy some of the things you think you need to do to make sure they are safe. Especially when you are usually logical and normal!
Some of the stories and I think threads on here are hilarious. Like putting no more tears shampoo in your own eyes to check it doesn't hurt ... (I did not do this!) Grin
Rustler - just put your changing mat on the floor of the bathroom. They learn to roll relatively quickly anyway. We changed DD on the top of her chest of drawers to start with, then just moved her to the floor once I could get up and down again without feeling like I'd pulled a thousand stitches!

EsmesBees · 27/01/2017 21:03

Rustler we had a simple changing table from IKEA. As wishI says, you don't use them for long so no point spending much on one.

savagehk · 27/01/2017 21:18

We used our changing table for ages. Easy height and all the nappies/stuff were on the shelves below. Ours was 2nd hand off eBay. I take it this is too big? link

savagehk · 27/01/2017 21:19

I really liked this changing mat too btw www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-wedge-changing-mat-cream/p230870205
