Raspberry good news and v exciting about the nursery Grin I can't wait to get started on ours, but we have to finish our extension first!

MrsJW I got my leggings from Debenhams and have found them really comfortable. Can't remember what the make was though and I've cut the label out (as they irritate me)

Anyone else's tummy button popped?? Mine is a bit sore where it rubs on my clothes now Sad

savagehk · 12/01/2017 13:37

Been a bit awol, just back from holidays :)

Re nursing chairs, we had one and I did enjoy it (in front of the computer watching box-sets!), I liked the rocking/gliding motion. I didn't use it much, though, and it wasn't in the 'nursery' (he was in our bedroom so there wasn't really a 'nursery'). I'm hoping to get one again this time although I didn't find the last one fantastically comfy so might get a old-fashioned rocking chair. Whatever it is will probably buy second hand again as I don't think we'll have more than about 4 months use out of it.
Rustler a Poang might be a good idea actually, they have a bit of bounce in them... hmmm...

We're not moving but are planning on fairly major renovations. We bought this house while I was pregnant the first time, and the only thing we've done that needed doing was decorate one room! Now time for all the other delayed items to happen. I'm hoping it can be done before baby arrives but am not sure, the way building works always seem to overrun.

lucie you'll need breast pads (Lansinoh ones were best disposables for me, but I'll be trying Little Lambs reusable ones from the start this time - I did last time too but they leaked and I panicked and went disposable, although I think i had the thing on inside out :) ). I also had a breast pump, but it's not necessary unless you want to express and bottle feed some of the time. I had a Medela Swing which was great, but would probably buy a closed system instead as those are re-saleable. You will probably also need Lansinoh nipple cream BUT I never needed to. You'll also need bras that you can feed in and I found having bf-specific tops a must, although I know others swear by stretchy vests that you can just pull down.
For those planning on introducing a bottle of expressed milk, personally I didn't bother with a sterilizer, I just made sure the bottles were properly cleaned with very hot water and soap, breast milk is (IMO) less likely to grow nasties than formula, I'd be more cautious with a premature or ill baby, obviously. I did sterilise the relevant parts of the pump when required using microwave sterlising bags from Medela.

peas our NCT bf session was awful, it was by a different person to the rest of the session and had no practical help at all. (It was just one session in the usual antenatal course though, not sure if a specialised course on bf would be better) The NCT in our area does, however, have specialist bf advisors you can call after birth for any help, and it's worth finding out if you have a local La Leche League that could help out with any issues. I'm on a fb group for our local LLL - they'll take any questions etc there and will also provide more help if needed.

Re the having a name in mind and then changing your mind when you see the baby - our boy looks nothing like his early baby photos... so while I get the concept I'm not sure it matters :)

missmoomoo I used naturacare last time and can recommend. But this time I'm going reusable... Tampons (imo) are now more uncomfortable than before birth, but I've been using a mooncup for ages and can really recommend them.

bright I'd recommend a stretchy wrap for a newborn, but ideally go along to a sling library before baby arrives so they can show you how to tie it. It's not hard but looks like it so having someone show you is much easier. The close caboo is another winner for newborns, I've not used it though.

red I worked up to the Friday before my due date (which was the Monday). I'm glad I did as baby was over 2 weeks 'late'. (Office based, so no physical demands, and I didn't have any issues like SPD etc)

acorn we're probably going to UP his nursery as he's starting school in September. At present he's there 1.5 days as week, but I think it'd be better for him to be there every morning.

lucieloos · 12/01/2017 13:45

Thanks savage that's really helpful. I've bought the majority of that stuff already including the medela swing pump so looks like I just need to get some cleaning kit and maybe a couple of extra bottles? I've read good reviews about the mam colic ones?

We got a lovely armchair from next yesterday it's quite small and compact as we don't have that much room in the nursery but nice and comfy. We figured we would go for a regular chair over nursing as we can use it in the lounge or wherever once we've finished using for baby.

savagehk · 12/01/2017 13:48

Medela claims the calma bottles are 'closest' to breastfeeding and will avoid nipple confusion; we had a variety of bottles and he'd drink from any of them at first and then none of them later... will be enforcing a bottle a day this time I think!

FoxMulder · 12/01/2017 13:51

I'm wondering whether to start DS at nursery...he will be eligible for funded hours shortly before the baby is due. I don't think he would like it though and I don't want him to feel pushed out.

RasperryInAMelon · 12/01/2017 14:03

Bright no, we're going for soft almond on 3 walls and a feature wall of grey white and yellow geometric shapes on the other. We're hoping to move towards the end of the year so would rather it's a room that makes the property more sellable. Plus if we do stay longer it's a nice subtle room that will hopefully grow with her Smile

Cinnamon I think mines almost there, I haven't taken out my piercing just yet, but I don't think it'll be long. I've invested in a couple of maternity bars to wear though.

Lucie which chair did you go for? I don't want to spend a fortune if I don't have to!

peasandquiet · 12/01/2017 14:11

Fox why not get him down for a place starting sept at a pre school? That way he is at home with you while baby is tiny and it's summer and then it's his big adventure in the autumn? If my little boy wasn't already in nursery this is what I would do. (Also if it's anything like it is round here you may struggle to get a funded place from April now as lots will be full)
I also used a medela swing last time, it's simple and effective. The mam bottles are fab and were fantastic for my refluxy boy, lots of part to clean (watch a you tube vid to see if this would annoy you!) which was a faff but you don't need a steriliser for them as you can just assemble them loosly and microwave them with a little water in. Highly recommend them. I will be buying a couple of the nuk ones for early days as friends have had most success switching between bottle and boob with these, however if BF fails I'll be using the MAM ones I think especially as I can just replace teats and the seal in them as I have a million of them already which we hung onto!

lucieloos · 12/01/2017 14:17

Raspberry, we went for the Alfie chair from next in a grey stripe. Lots of different fabrics though.

Peas, I will take a look at the nuk bottles might get them instead then if they are good while breastfeeding.

MrsJW15 · 12/01/2017 15:19

Bright I ordered some New Look ones, but they were too big - the bump bit was fine but the trousers themselves were massive!

Cinamon I will look at the Debenhams website.

For anyone else looking, Gap has 25% of its sale stuff today if you order online.

Lucie that chair is gorgeous!

Think I might look into the Medella Swing as well, heard lots of good things. I want to try to pump so that DH or others can do one bottle.

RasperryInAMelon · 12/01/2017 15:52

I looked at the Medella one, but we've been given so much Tommee Tippee stuff from friends and it was reduced to £49 so I ended up getting the TT one in the end

Brightsmoke · 12/01/2017 16:04

Mrs Oh, I'll have to try the bits I bought on when I get home then, fingers crossed they fit as I have no idea where the receipt is lol.

Lucie, That chair is lovely!

Rasperry, that sounds lovely! Very mature so I'm sure it will be lovely. fingers crossed you move soon though :)

Cinnamon, mine hasn't popper yet, but it feels flat, so I don't think it will be long now!! I noticed 'the line' (whatever its called) is coming, very faint though!!

Feeling a bit self conscious about my weight atm, I've put on just less than 1.5 stone already, which seems far too much :( My bump is huge though!! (or at least it feels like it compared to before!!)

CinnamonTwist · 12/01/2017 16:30

Bright I think you are due on the same day as me (3rd)? I've put on just under half a stone as well. I think as doing really well in terms of not gaining too much before Christmas but since then it had just rocketed! I don't feel like I've gained too much 'fat' atm though, so I'm hoping it's all bump... although hopefully not mostly baby as it would be massive 😱

Acorncat · 12/01/2017 16:33

Thanks for the thoughts on nursery, good to hear most people are leaving the older ones in at least some of the time. Mine is currently in 3 days but I might cut it to 2 mornings. Tricky as he can be upset being dropped off and i think if he knows I'm at home with the baby then he'll just be even more upset Sad but I think he does enjoy it once he's there.

EsmesBees · 12/01/2017 17:26

I mixed fed with one bottle a day from 6 wks to 10 months and would recommend the medela calma bottles to start, and then the Dr brown anti colic ones. Annoying to clean but did mean she got less wind.

yellowismyfavourite · 12/01/2017 17:31

Bright I was stressing over my huge bump and the amount of weight I have suddenly piled on- about half a stone since Christmas. Saw midwife today for 24w appointment and she said it was normal for this to happen at this stage. Baby was being very naughty and kept wriggling away from the doppler! I was also worrying about having some days with less movement but she said that was due to anterior placenta

lucieloos · 12/01/2017 17:42

How much weight have people generally put on up to now? What is considered average / normal?

Just back from 2 weeks in South Africa (delayed honeymoon from our May wedding, turned into our babymoon) and catching up on the threads. It was brutal missing out on all of the lovely wine drinking but I mastered the spittoon at the tastings at least Grin. DH insisted I bring my dream genii pillow on the trip, which seemed ridiculous but I'm SO glad he convinced me. I can't sleep without it now!

Anyone getting pain around the middle of the right ribcage, around from the back to just under the sternum? It's been nagging me for the last month, but seems to be getting worse. Not sure if it's growing pains but a pregnancy massage did absolutely nothing to sort it (as lovely as it was).

Sonnet18 · 12/01/2017 18:55

I'm not weighing myself. What's the point? I put on 1lb by this stage last time and I know that will not be the case this time so it'll just stress me out. No need. I am wearing size 10 maternity so that's that.

Secondly, to bring back an older point made by someone...child tax credit...I originally thought I couldn't apply for it whilst on mat leave but I put a few figures into the calculator online and it's seemingly saying I could be entitled to something for the duration of Mat leave? Anyone have any experience of this or advice?

Barnes79 · 12/01/2017 18:56

Lucie - I think I read up to 6lb in the first trimester, 1-2lb per week in the second and then it slows down in the third a bit, but can't remember how much to. I've put on just under a stone so far and am only 20w +3d. Blush

1004Rise · 12/01/2017 19:04

Cinnamon definitely popped, but more popped in the evening than in the morning- DH finds it hilarious Hmm Took my piercing out before 12 weeks as the skin was too tight for it to be comfortable, impressed you still have yours in *Rasperry!
*
I think I've put on about half a stone in total, hoping it's all bump and not too much baby Wink

I'm away from home tonight for work and couldn't fit my pillow in Sad, tried to limit my luggage so it wasn't too heavy for me to lift. So I've spent the last 30 minutes trying to create a comfy bed with lots of pillows!

Has anyone else developed varicose veins, I was expecting them (family history) but today part of them is sore, typical when I'm not at home. Might see if I can find a walk in centre nearby to check them tomorrow Confused

FatOldBag · 12/01/2017 19:12

There's a pregnancy weight gain guidance thingy here: www.babycenter.com/pregnancy-weight-gain-estimator it gives you a range. I haven't put much on this time but I am obsessing about it. I got massive with ds and he was massive and I had to have a EMCS because he wouldn't fit out! I want to avoid that again if at all possible. Also I'm already fat to start with this time, haha, so I could do with not making it worse!

Rabbitykins55 · 12/01/2017 19:40

I recently weighed myself and instantly regretted it. I haven't put weight on anywhere but bump and boobs but it still made me a bit down. I'm trying to remain as active as possible, SPD permitting.

Oh and on that, got a referral for physiotherapy so waiting for that now.

Badgerbird · 12/01/2017 19:44

raspberry I didn't know maternity bars existed! Brilliant as I've had mine in so long my tummy looks weird (to me) without my piercing in. Obvs it's gonna look weird anyway but you know what i mean Confused

smoke I have had the linea nigra since about 16 weeks (I've got quite dark skin so shows up quicker). The twins at work, who are now obsessed with Blobby (my baby) decided the line is there to show the doctor where to cut to get baby out! Grin

Try not up worry too much about your weight gain, some peeps just put on more than others as long as you're healthy. It seems to even out after a while I think too doesn't it?

yellowismyfavourite · 12/01/2017 19:47

Klane I get that pain around my rib cage especially in the evening. Think its everything getting squashed up??
