You shouldn't have to hold yourself back in your career just because you're having a baby. Good luck in the interview and don't feel guilty.

ThirdThoughts · 03/01/2017 13:08

Go for it Wanting maternity leave is a small portion of the time you'll be spending in the role if it is a good fit for you :)

Nausea is making me feel lousy. But I feel a bit bette for a bit of fresh air and exercise now - I went for a bike ride and got membership for the leisure centre sorted so I can swim and maybe use the gym a little. Couldn't go in the pool though as I had managed to leave my kit in the hallway at home. My DS is 4yrs, and I'm ~7wks pregnant, between them I can claim 'baby brain' right?

MrsG280516 · 03/01/2017 13:19

Just called my GP and left a message for the midwife to call me tomorrow. I'm a bit worried about my booking appointment as I'm going to be 10+4 by the time I see the midwife and then she needs to request a scan date for me, just got a feeling that she won't get a scan date before 13+6 which is when the screening tests should be done by.

Anyone else got a late booking appointment and no scan date yet?

firsttimer12345 · 03/01/2017 13:38

I'm having my scan and screening tests at the same appointment MrsG so hopefully it will be fine for you!

thenorthernluce · 03/01/2017 15:04

MrsG, my booking appointment is pretty late, when I'll be 10+3 next week, but my scan was booked for me around the same time and will be just within the 13+6 deadline by a few days. Can you book the scan now? Or must the midwife do it?

Heatherbaby · 03/01/2017 15:56

wanting you are in a better position than I am re work. I interviewed for a new job the month before I got my bfp. I was told I was unsuccessful but with good feedback. I then found I was pregnant and a few days later the place called me and said they were impressed and wanted to create a further position for me.

I haven't formally accepted yet as I have asked my current employer whether they can match the position and salary. I find out at the end of the week but the payrise is a whooping 16k so I can't really let this opportunity go just cos I'm preg!

I'm very apprehensive though as I feel like I am cheating my new employer. I won't be entitled to any maternity pay besides a statutory maternity allowance I think but the pay rise should make it worth it overall.

Ideally my current employer will match the offer this week and I can stay and get maternity pay! Someone said to me that having a baby is a part of life and employers can't penalise you for this morally or legally.

MrsG280516 · 03/01/2017 15:59

thenorthernluce I think the midwife needs to request one from the hospital, I'll be seeing her at my GP surgery so have no idea who to contact if I could book it myself. They send letters out here once the appointment is booked so I assume the midwife has to do it. Hopefully she'll call me back tomorrow and I can explain the situation, maybe she can request a date before my booking appointment if she thinks it might be an issue.

TMI26 · 03/01/2017 16:10

MrsG I'm in a similar situation due to Christmas and holidays I'm seeing the midwife tomorrow at almost 10weeks, no idea on wait times but I'm sure it will be fine xx

So after some advice, we were trying for almost 2years before it happened and I was booked in for a pcos internal scan for Friday, it took forever to make, I tried to cancel but the lady on the phone said there is nothing harm to the baby at all - wondering whether I should go or not...?

Cocochops · 03/01/2017 17:26

wanting I was in a similar position for my first pregnancy started the job when I was 10 weeks and then told them 2 weeks later. I was dreading it but they were absolutely fine. (Large company too which I think made it s but easier) As others have said you can't put your life on hold and maternity is a short period of your career. 6 years later I am still at the same company

heather fx for your job too.

mrsg am on a similar position have got booking in next week with midwife at 9w5 and haven't heard anything about the scan. Not sure if I get a letter or midwife has to book. Also a bit worried it's late but I guess on the other hand they should know what they are doing regarding the process so fx it's all ok and get scan in time. I have decided if worst case scenario they can't I will pay for private.

Cocochops · 03/01/2017 17:47

And also can others just not stop eating or is it just meConfused

TMI26 · 03/01/2017 18:09

Coco I'm the opposite, nothing appeased me I'm starving but can't get anything down except orange juice

MustBeThursday · 03/01/2017 19:10

Lixon yes, relieved that I'm avoiding clomid if all goes well. I think I'm still in shock to be honest, I'd told myself it wouldn't happen straight away etc, obviously very grateful that I've been lucky but can't quite believe it's happening.

TMI When I had my PCOS internal scan it was an abdominal ultrasound and a vaginal ultrasound, from what I understand no different from the ultrasound they use in pregnancy (I think very early scans are done vaginally?) - obviously if you don't feel comfortable doing it while pregnant don't feel you have to go. As long as they're aware of the pregnancy they should tell you if there are any risks associated with it?

Dixiechick1991 · 03/01/2017 19:40

I don't know how I'm going to get through this. I'm yawning all day, sat down at 6 and couldn't keep my eyes open & fell asleep for an hour!
My booking appointment isn't until 9+6, it seems ages away but no idea whether that is late.
I'm a teacher so would love the scan date to be in the half term so I could go without any suspicion

88claire · 03/01/2017 20:15

Does anyone have any tips for anxious first time mums to be? I thought I would be massively excited but I'm so worried this is a chemical pregnancy or I'll miscarry.... I want to carry on POAS hoping the line will get darker etc! I know it's irrational but I'm so nervous!!

SickRose · 03/01/2017 21:21

Ooh can I join? Got a BFP on 21st December and have my booking in appointment on 5th. I think I'm around 8 weeks but my cycles would vary from 25 to 45 days so I'm not certain.

Wasn't really expecting it, me and DH had only just decided to go for genetic counselling for IVF (DH has a disability that has a 50% chance of being passed on). Luckily it isn't a hugely debilitating disability, we can cope.

I've been having horrible symptoms so far. Constant nausea and vomiting before bed. Headaches and the most painful boobs. Despite this I'm still really struggling to accept that it's happening!

Largemelons · 03/01/2017 21:39

I've got my booking in on Thursday when I'll be about 9.5 weeks. Ours usually ring the hospital and get you a scan date there and then.
Work-wise I got a lovely promotion in September and I'll be training for a year or so and eventually going on shifts. I've been there almost 3 years and it's the NHS so they are pretty solid but I still feel really bad!
I kind of gave the impression I was finished (after 5 kids) which I kind of was but I hit late 30's and had a bit of a moment and here we are!
I work with chemicals and all sorts so should probably tell them but I know I'm being safe so I'm holding off until 12 weeks because I'm scaredConfused

Largemelons · 03/01/2017 21:44

Strike out fail Biscuit

goiaba · 03/01/2017 23:30

Hi Ladies, can I join the group? I just discovered 3 days ago that I'm pregnant. It's my first and the due date is 8th September. Since my family lives abroad and so many of my friends don't have children, it's so lovely to see so many of you talking honestly about this magical/stressful time.

goiaba · 03/01/2017 23:39

I'm so sorry ladies, I didn't realize this is a group for August babies. I'm trying to delete my original post, but can't seem to find a way. Wishing you all a great pregnancy and a healthy baby. Xxx

WantingBaby1 · 04/01/2017 08:18

Thanks ladies. Going to go for it even if I need to buy a new suit as my old ones don't fit anymore Hmm

Welcome newbies!

Claire totally normal to be nervous. An early scan helped me, I was 7+1. Then it all became real and I realised the miscarriage rate plumets after hearing a heartbeat Smile

mistletoeprickles · 04/01/2017 08:41

Ladies at what should I worry about loss of symtoms? I'm now 8 weeks and we've seen the heartbeat but got up this morning and my boobs are fine. I don't know about nausea yet as that kicks in in the afternoon.
I'm panicking slightly though

PancakesAndMapleSyrup · 04/01/2017 08:52

Oooh can i join in too?! Im due 26th July witg DC3 and feel like absoloute shite atm. Worst pregnancy going but then have fibro too so dosent help. Have mu scan booked for the 17th jan and midwife booking in today. Hopefully i can stop throwing up for a bit and i cannot wait for the kids to go back to school tomorrow!

MadameWoods86 · 04/01/2017 08:52

Second baby due 7th August and new to mumsnet, please can I be added? V nervous because of previous history. Scan before nye showed a heartbeat, what a relief but not out of the woods yet!

MrsG280516 · 04/01/2017 09:14

mistletoe symptoms come and go all the time, some days my boobs feel okay and other days they are sore. Same with the nausea, I wouldn't worry.

Lixon · 04/01/2017 09:39

Hello to all the newcomers! There's no end to August babies.. you'd be welcome to stay goiaba but I've no doubt there's also a September babies thread now if you'd prefer :)

Good luck to those waiting for scan dates, sounds like it's a well established practice in your area so I'm sure the midwives will have it sorted.

Enjoy New York MrsG, hope the nausea holds off for a few days!

Mistletoe my symptoms definitely come and go, I'm fairly sure it's normal but just try not to worry as otherwise I'd go insane! I dreamt last night about lots of bright red blood so was very relieved to wake up not. I'd love to think anxiety will go after my 12 week scan but suspect that's optimistic!

Good luck to those with job decisions to make or worrying about the right time to be pregnant - as others have said there will never be a perfect time so don't feel guilty and finances will eventually work out if you don't get maternity pay. Fingers crossed your current employer makes you a great offer Heather!
