The NHS recommends taking folic acid only until 12 weeks :)

Pisghetti · 01/02/2017 10:03

NHS also recommends Vitamin D throughout.

NamelessNinja · 01/02/2017 18:26

Congratulations to everyone whos scan has gone well. Mine is tomorrow and I'm feeling really nervous and paranoid!!

Has anyone else had quite sharp sort of intermittent cramping on one side? Google tells me it is likely ligament pain but it's worrying me that it's only on one side?

The midwife said to me it was just vitamin D to take after 12 weeks as we have no hope of getting enough here, particularly during a rainy English winter!!

WestyNottingham · 01/02/2017 18:49

Yeah, I've been getting sharp pains only on the right too. I've been putting it down to endometriosis adhesions getting disturbed because it's in the same place I had the most pain after endo surgery... but ligament pain seems more likely if you've never had endo symptoms. I didn't but most do.

My morning sickness is the worse it's been today. I've been very lucky not to have thrown up yet but it feels like a very real danger now! Anyone else have worsening MS in week ten?

ZigAZigAhh · 01/02/2017 18:55

Nameless and Westy - yes, lots of one-sided cramping both with DC1 and this time around too (although it seems to have reverted back to good old period pain cramping again which still takes me by surprise and makes me dash to the nearest toilet to make sure nothing is "happening"!)

Happily morning sickness seems to have been absent lately although I now have full blown sinus infection/tonsillitis sickness to make up for it. DH and DC1 both have tonsillitis too and we are all feeling very sorry for ourselves (and of course both DH and I have horrendous weeks at work this week which has all had to be put on hold - I can barely get out of bed). At least it's given me something else to worry about apart from next week's scan!

Good luck tomorrow Nameless Smile

Timefor2 · 01/02/2017 19:24

Anyone still waiting for nuchal/blood results after their scan? Mine was last Thursday and they said I'd get a call in 3-5 days if I was high risk or otherwise a letter so I'm hoping I'm almost through the 'call' stage (been debating whether 3-5 days means working days or not!) but really would like the letter as confirmation before telling too many people. Started to tell a few colleagues this week - frankly I have three outfits where I can hide my massive tummy so I'm certain the rest have guessed anyway... Smile

Brainfried1986 · 01/02/2017 19:25

northern - the midwife today said it's fine to take vitamins which describe themselves as for pregnancy all the way through - tho folic acid is no longer essential after first trimester it's not going to do you any harm to be taking it in a combined vitamin. Hope that helps :)

NamelessNinja · 01/02/2017 20:30

Thanks Westy and Zig- hope you feel better soon, that sounds awful! It is reassuring to now its fairly common.
Westy my morning sickness definitely got worse around week 10, peaked at week 11 and is now nearly completely gone at week 13.

thenorthernluce · 02/02/2017 08:25

Thanks for all the vitamin/supplement advice, everyone Smile - much appreciated!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 02/02/2017 09:24

thenorthernluce If you go for a multi vit option buy a small pack of your chosen brand first. Boots own made me terribly ill as did the own brand in my local pharmacy but I was fine with pregnacare, my friend was the opposite couldn't tolerate pregnacare but not a problem with boots Smile

llemma · 02/02/2017 15:11

Hi everyone, i've been lurking the past wee while so thought i should finally say hello! Just had my 12 week scan today, due 11th August. Hope everyone's doing well xx

ErneyAndAgnes · 02/02/2017 15:19

May I jump on this bandwagon? Grin I'm a bit late to the party- currently 12+2 due 15/08.
Had my scan yesterday- very reassuring to see baby chilling out in there, fingers crossed test results all come back ok.
I'm afraid to say I think I've had it pretty easy so far- not much nausea or tiredness, just sore boobs and an ever expanding waist line. I actually haven't really felt that pregnant so it was good to see it definitively, in black an white, at the scan.

Ordered my first maternity jeans yesterday- don't think my hairband in the button hole trick is going to last much longer! Luckily now my work colleagues know so I don't have to hide it anymore.

Telling our families this weekend- how did you guys go about doing this? Not sure whether to just blurt it out, or what to say really! Its our first, but not the first grandchild by a long way.

Catherinebee85 · 02/02/2017 15:26

Just need to write this down because I'm really scared. I've got my 12 week scan in the morning. I'm working nights so it's not the best time. Nights always make me feel a bit fragile. I've only slept for 4hrs max this morning after working 12.5hrs last night.

I'm just so scared it's going to be bad news. Ive woke feeling anxious. I've no real reason to believe it would be anythung bad I've had no bleeding, no spotting or anything throughout. I did have some period type cramps a week or so ago but they've gone now. I'm driving myself crazy thinking symptoms going away must mean something bad must have happened. Tying myself in knots.

Outwardly I'm saying to people 'what will be will be' 'can't do anything about it' etc but inside I'm so scared I just wouldn't cope with bad news. Everyone at work knows I'm pregnant even people I've not told and don't really know (that's another story that I'm quite angry aboit) which is making it worse. I don't even think I want advice lol....just needed to say it IYSWIM.

Aaaaaand breathe!

llemma · 02/02/2017 15:33

I know how you feel. I was an absolute wreck this morning and didn't sleep a wink last night. Try to remember that mmcs are rare so having no bleeding etc means odds are very good everything is ok. Hope tomorrow goes well for you xx

ErneyAndAgnes · 02/02/2017 16:02

Catherinebee85- I know exactly how you feel , every so often I go through phases of panicking for no reason at all. I found it helped to tell someone, like my best friend, especially as she's been there done that. Just talking about it made me feel more rational. I hope you have someone you could maybe talk to? If not, there's always someone on here who will listen! You won't know for sure until the scan so just try not to think about it too much- as hard as that is!

Fingers crossed for you xx

NamelessNinja · 02/02/2017 16:41

Scan all went well, one wriggly 12 week baby in there! I've been put back a week so EDD is now 17th August.

Catherine I felt exactly the same and had quite a lot of cramping. Did some research at stupid o'clock this morning and risk of MMC is between 1-3% (depending on if you're over or under 35) if you haven't had any bleeding. I found those statistics somewhat reassuring, I think MMC are really over represented on forums etc because people are more likely to seek support after them.

Catherinebee85 · 02/02/2017 17:24

Thank you everyone. I'm feeling calmer now and wish I had chance to sleep but alas....work in an hour and a half Sad

I will update tomorrow morning. I'm 31 but overweight (not so overweight I need a consultant led birth though)

Google is my enemy!

Happy to read good news xxx

Brainfried1986 · 02/02/2017 17:59

Catherine, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you - I know just how you feel & expect I'll struggle to sleep the few days before my scan, for all of the same reasons as you. It's ok to be worried & scared, you don't need to be zen about this! It matters to you so of course you will worry. Just try to tell yourself to keep breathing and you'll get through it. And get lots of hugs from nice people too! That also helps! x

calimommy · 02/02/2017 18:59

catherine I'm a nurse so have done loads of night shifts, I always find the sleep disruption coupled with dehydration can cause cramping. Make sure you drink enough water. X

MrsG280516 · 02/02/2017 20:10

Congrats to those who've had healthy scans this week! 6 days left till mine, I can't wait.

WantingBaby1 · 02/02/2017 21:17

Catherine totally normal to feel worried before a scan. I was a mess despite having had no bleeding, no pain, some sickness and tiredness and being 30yo! But mmcs are really rare, and rarer still if you're only 31 and not obese (overweight is fine, my midwife said they don't worry until you're 30, even then they just monitor you a bit more). You'll be fine tomorrow. Lots of deep breaths.

ninja congrats on your scan :)

Timefor2 · 03/02/2017 06:53

Good to here of some more happy scans and good luck Catherine today - I was also very nervous but as others have said, while awful and very traumatic, MMC are very unusual.

Still no news from the nuchal results. A week since my scan I'm hoping that's a low risk result but keen to still have the letter in my hand to confirm!

firsttimer12345 · 03/02/2017 07:29

We had our results in the post yesterday time. Exactly a week after our scan. I'd go for no news is good news and they said they'd call us asap if there were any problems.

ZigAZigAhh · 03/02/2017 09:12

Congrats to all those who have had happy scans recently! Grin

Good luck this morning Catherine - as others have said, everyone feels nervous before a scan but the chances of everything being fine are very high.

I think my negativity about my own scan is based on the fact I had a tiny amount of brown spotting at 10 weeks (just once when I wiped), I accidentally OD'ed on my pregnancy vitamins early on for a week or so (I know this is unlikely to cause any issues but it still plays on my mind a bit), and I am still BFing DC1 which I have read can sometimes cause issues in some women. So I can't help but feel that my odds aren't as great as they could be.

I had a very vivid dream last night that I had my scan and they couldn't find anything which isn't helping! Bring on Monday...

Catherinebee85 · 03/02/2017 10:53

Thankyou to everyone who reassured me and sent me good vibes. I've been able to glimpse a very wriggly baby this morning. A head, a body, 2 arms, 2 legs and looks like a baby. I am over the moon (and very happy to finally be going to bed).
