Thanks Sparkly - I think this week I'll be prioritising the pampering. I've got a gel nail kit & it's been a while so might give that a go :)

clevername · 29/01/2017 19:47

I have felt pretty low in places during this pregnancy, too, Brainfried. It has thankfully lifted in the last couple of weeks (I'm 10 weeks) - I was getting concerned that I was developing antenatal depression! My ideas - allow yourself to have faith that it will almost certainly go away soon (hormones are total and utter buggers for affecting my mood); if it's possible, have a little power nap when you feel that exhaustion hit in the evening (I've found a little 20 min snooze perks me up no end). And put away/hide the scales!!

SickRose · 29/01/2017 20:44

Hope everyone is doing well. I haven't been around for a little while, HG is getting me down hugely. Been sleeping 13 hours a day and laying bored for the rest!

Have a question about maternity clothes for those that have done all this before. I want to try and keep costs down as much as possible so what could I buy that would last the whole pregnancy? Or am I better off waiting until I'm bigger? I only fit into one pair of jeans at the moment so I'll have to get something Blush

thenorthernluce · 29/01/2017 21:02

Sickrose, I would wait until you're bigger, as I ordered a ton of maternity clothes in the ASOS 70% off sale and most was far too big for now (13 weeks). The only currently useful things were trousers with stretchy panels, but everything else was giant, even in my current size (12/14). It's hard, though, cos I can't button/zip up most of my work trousers or skirts, so I'm now wearing my stretchy dresses and most accommodating skirts to work (tops are fine). At weekends, I mostly wear leggings and tunic type things, which are very forgiving!

I may invest in an extender thing for the waistband for these last few weeks when I don't need maternity wear; anyone have any recommendations?

SickRose · 29/01/2017 21:25

Thanks northern. I'm not much of a dress wearer so I might buy a couple now. ASOS has a lot of maternity/nursing one so I could get a good year or so out of them! Did you get over or under bump jeans?

clevername · 29/01/2017 21:57

Sickrose I was preggo last time at exactly the same time of year and I became convinced that it was an awesome time to be pregnant, clothes-wise! By the time most of us have a sizeable bump, it should be quite warm so it makes things so much easier/cheaper. You don't have to worry about a coat that will accommodate and a lot of 'normal' spring/summer clothes will stretch nicely (so you can avoid the premium attached to most maternity clothes). E.g. I bought lots of stretchy maxi dresses from Primark last time and they were awesome (and super cheap!).

Having said that, I had a few pairs of maternity leggings, trousers and jeans and they were super comfy/useful (I liked the H&M ones, although had to size up loads, which was a bit depressing!). I much preferred over-bump jeans (seriously comfortable... I struggled to stop wearing them!). I also had some maternity tights to wear under the dresses for the cooler spring days.

I'm struggling right now though - my normal clothes either don't fit or they make me look pregnant (and I haven't had my scan yet so still trying to hide the bulge/bloat!).

I also bought some things in the ASOS sale but sent them back because they were just enormous!

Catherinebee85 · 29/01/2017 22:10

Thanks to those who replied about scan times. I'm gonna have to suck it up and try to make myself sleep before 2 more night shifts. If it's good news I'm gonna be too excited for sleep!xx

Pisghetti · 29/01/2017 22:18

Sickrose I am also struggling with my regular clothes. Very depressing at only 10 weeks. I've ordered some maternity leggings and black trousers from Asda Direct. They were very cheap and will go with my usual tops for work for a while. I also picked up some stuff from the sale racks in H&M as they had some skinny jeans and summery tops and shorts. Stashing for our holiday in June.

Brainfried1986 · 29/01/2017 22:29

Re: trousers not fitting, my mum recommended using an elastic band tied into the buttonhole of jeans and then looped over the button to give a few extra inches of space! It might save buying new clothes for a couple of weeks at least?!

Kirstyinnorway · 30/01/2017 06:16

Glad I'm not the only one struggling with jeans/waistbands! My waist is really thickening now. While my app is telling me not to indulge cravings and stay healthy, it's nice to speak to other real Mums at a similar stage to know that what I'm experiencing IS normal Smile

I bought a super soft/lightweight loose black denim shirt from H&M this week which I've worn nearly every day with black tights! (It even washes/dries quickly because it's thin.) It hides my bloat and is so comfy. My office was quite relaxed so if paired with heeled ankle boots, it's suitable... Plus I bought it so large that I think it will last almost to the end! Also a stretchy black short skirt with no waistband, and a baggy stripy jumper to wear with it. That's basically going to be my only two outfits until I get a proper bump now Grin

Kirstyinnorway · 30/01/2017 06:17

Don't mean to imply everyone here isn't staying healthy/not indulging cravings, I just think my particular app is a bit idealistic! Grin

Sparklyuggs · 30/01/2017 06:41

I found ASOS sale good, and there's often bundles on eBay which can be worth a look. I think it depends on your normal style of clothes, one of my friends wore her own clothes for ages (loose, draped tunics over leggings) but those in suits needed maternity trousers at 12w.

I just switched to over the bump jeans, much comfier now I have a bump rather than bloating, I got them in h&m but needed to go up a size or two.

End of the sales is a good time to get jumpers and looser tops in a size up. Some of the high street maternity stuff isn't my taste at all!

firsttimer12345 · 30/01/2017 06:57

I've bought a couple of skirts like yours from primark Kirsty but longer ones as I already have that H&M one and it barely goes over my arse when I'm not carrying a baby! I'm sure yours looks fab though Smile
I've already bought a pair of Asos maternity jeans which are comfy and quite generous in size which I wasn't expecting! Will definitely have to invest in some more as seem to be wearing them most days as a lots of my other non-stretchy clothes are tight on my boobs too!
Off to a meeting in London today and have gone full primark - stretchy skirt, stretchy top!

Kirstyinnorway · 30/01/2017 07:01

I miss Primark!! Sad

Timefor2 · 30/01/2017 07:06

Same issues with clothes here too. I had a lovely scan last week but waiting for the blood/nuchal combined results before telling too many people and so desperately trying to hide my 13 week bloat/bump. In some ways it helped that post baby 1 I struggled to loose my tummy anyway so have a few floaty/non-clingy dresses; but I'm now down to two that I can wear without showing!

I bought a pair 14 normal jeans (am size 12) post my last baby and they are proving great for now so agree with others that some next size up cheap clothes aren't the worst idea as you may want them afterwards too.

Stinkbaby · 30/01/2017 08:14

I seem to be losing weight ... not had scan yet either so now I'm kinda worried 😩

OkyDoke · 30/01/2017 08:18

Stink, do you have much sickness? Ive heard of a lot of women that lose weight in the first three months, try not to worry!

Stinkbaby · 30/01/2017 08:36

Not a lot, once every two days or so. My biggest problem is that I can't stand the thought of any food or drink it's really getting to me. I just want my scan date through!!!! Arrrggghhhh

Kirstyinnorway · 30/01/2017 09:23

I'm completely sure that's normal too stink, everyone deals with the early weeks differently and for me, the sickness only goes away if I eat. Sadly, all that sounds good to me at the moment is bread, cheese, pasta and glasses of milk. No wonder my waist is thickening and I'm struggling with bloat at the end of the day!
When is your scan?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 30/01/2017 09:51

Brain Funny you should mention hair elastics...mine made it's appearance through my button hole this morning. I'm roughly 13 weeks now (dating scan tomorrow) so I give it another week or two until I can get away with mat jeans. I was looking at my bump photos from last time the other day & it was definitely a baby bump by 14 weeks Shock Blush. I don't really tell anyone, except close friends & family, until 24 weeks so hoping I can wear my winter coat until the kids break up for Easter!

Stinkbaby · 30/01/2017 10:41

I'm still waiting to get a letter through the post for my scan date even though I'm 12 weeks now, if I don't hear anything by tomorrow I'm calling them.
Cereal has been my only constant meal, I don't normally eat it lol stupid body!

MrsG280516 · 30/01/2017 11:06

I'm still waiting for my scan date too Stink I'm 12+2 today and will be phoning the hospital this afternoon if nothing comes in the post this morning! I understand that I technically have until next Friday to be scanned in time but its getting the time off work that is the problem, I can't just drop everything with a few days notice!

IntoTheWoods84 · 30/01/2017 11:07

Don't worry stinkbaby - I lost loads of weight from sickness and no appetite- over a stone. Struggling to get it back on, still feel awful if I eat a lot, but I'm sure it'll happen soon, and then some Grin. I'm 13 and a half weeks now. My scan was fine and midwives totally unconcerned about weight loss. Hope your scan comes soon!x

yolkybokey · 30/01/2017 12:38

stink I've also lost a bit of weight - I put it down to quitting wine and chocolate!!
I am getting very bloated too though, I normally wear non-stretch jeans which I haven't been able to do up for a while now....I got a great pair of maternity trousers from Asos which are doing me for work atm.
I am also loving my dungarees right now Grin

Have been feeling pretty crap recently, caught a cold last week which has affected me more than it usually would. I also threw up at the train station on the way to work on Friday which was highly embarrassing...
Have taken the day off today to get some rest, 16 days till scan day!!

clevername · 30/01/2017 12:52

Loving my dungarees too!
Can't wait to get a maternity pair (some nice ones in ASOS and H&M)
