Hi all - looks like I'm first here! I'm pregnant with #1, due 2 September. Got my BFP a couple of days ago and already it feels like a rollercoaster ride - I'm utterly thrilled, anxious about the possibility of a loss and terrified at the thought of the birth! But hey, bring it on! Smile

Welcome to everyone new and big congratulations!!
Newbie I was just in with my doctor today. She said to continue as normal. - I do weight training between 3 - 5 times a week and she said to keep it up.
She said just to keep to the weights I was doing and don't up them.
It was my first day back this morning - It was harder then normal I think. I told the trainer also just so he knows.

Kskifred · 03/01/2017 17:06

Part of me wants to but we left it to surprise with DS so expect will do the same this time. My DP told me what the baby was when he was born (i remember trying not to look down and spoil it but dh was taking ages due to shock/not sure if winky was cord Shock) lol and it was perfect experience for us.

flossie80 · 03/01/2017 17:07

Work was SO hard! My closest friend at work is 20 weeks pregnant and I was desperate to tell her. If only to ask her loads of questions!! I'm going to ring my doctor tomorrow I think and get an early private scan at the end of the month too! Keep poas just to check- ha ha! My DH thinks I'm insane!

newbiejourney · 03/01/2017 17:17

Thanks for your advice! I might give the doctor a call and perhaps chat to one of the trainers at the gym too and see what they say, I know them quite well from doing classes anyway.

I swear that I was never this much of a worrier before!

Amz26 · 03/01/2017 17:18

Thanks hellsbells congratulations too :)
I'm the same as you with the training I normally do a bodybuilding sort of training style so I'm unsure my doctor would say keep the same weight as I was doing before, but will Defo double check on the 11th X

ks that sounds like such a lovely experience.. My OH wants to know but I'm unsure.. I said he can't tell me if he finds out haha X

flossie I'm the same as you I've done a few test as well! I wanted to make sure the clear blue digital when from 1-2 to 2-3 even tho I know they're not 100% accurate X

guigirl14 · 03/01/2017 17:41

flossie and amz26 I've done a few tests too, not sure where the urge to keep doing them comes from! I'm assuming it is only a good thing that those CB digital ones have moved on each week (1-2, then 2-3, now 3 plus, got to stop doing them...).

Does anyone know if your HcG levels are checked at the booking appointment? Sorry if that's a really naive question but this is my first and every day I seem to learn something new.

Shwighty1 · 03/01/2017 18:15

guigirl I think they normally get you to poas at your 1st appointment, can't remember if there's a blood test at that appointment or not

lilyborderterrier · 03/01/2017 18:22

And so the tiredness has kicked in !! Nearly dropped off at the dinner table listening to the Clangers with my toddler. And my boobs are very tender so at least the symptoms are starting. I rang the midwives and am booked in on the 23rd i will have to take my nearly 4 year old with me which I didn't really want to do till later but I'll sit her with my iPhone and hope she's oblivious. I cannot remember what they appointment involves?

HellsBellsK · 03/01/2017 19:37

Yeah best check Amz I would do weight training kinda like cross fit but may be not as heavy weights as yourself.
She did say something about around 28weeks don't lift the weights above your head but will have to ask her again as I was zoned out as I thought I was going to be sick.

Just wondering is anyone thinking of getting the Harmony test done? I'm in two minds at the moment.

Kskifred · 03/01/2017 19:54

hells you get standard nhs testing during pregnancy anyway no?

Amz26 · 03/01/2017 20:08

Yeah thanks hellsbells no harm in checking anyway! I Will just do more light weights for now.. Would hate to risk anything for the gym!!! Not worth it at all

I'm not sure either if I will get the test done I'm in two minds too 🤔 I think you have the option ks to get it done or not X

MouseLove · 03/01/2017 20:25

I think I would only get the harmony tests done if something came back wrong with the standard Nhs tests. £500 could buy a lot of baby stuff.

I'm really excited for the first midwife appointment and to get the ball rolling. I was told to go with a full bladder as they will need a sample. So when does everyone have their first appointment?

Kskifred · 03/01/2017 20:31

Harmony testing is private though?

Agree i would try not to worry about the harmony testing unless something came up on the nhs test - looks like they are similar? Also if it did come back with high risk it's then a personal decision whether you would want the invasive follow up test which has risks. I personally would continue the pregnancy either way so for me would make no sense to risk anything with extra amnio testing but appreciate everyone is different, again completely personal circumstances.

ADuckNamedSplash · 03/01/2017 20:32

Just googled the Harmony test - hadn't realised there was a cost! Blush

I'm with MouseLove - I'd do it if there was something to indicate it would be worthwhile. It looks like the biggest risk factor is maternal age and I'm only 29, so hopefully low risk.

My midwife appointment is 9 Jan. Seemed very early - I'll only be 6+2 then - but excited to get the ball rolling! The downside is that I've heard you see the midwife every 4 weeks or so at this stage, meaning I'll have another appointment before my 12 week scan to try and cover up at work...

HellsBellsK · 03/01/2017 20:46

It is personal and I don't think I will - just my SIL asked me would we as they had one done and was wondering was it the norm etc.

Kskifred · 03/01/2017 20:54

i'm still with my old doctors after moving house (love my dr) but it's about 25 miles away so need to register locally first then i guess will get mw app. Pretty sure with DS it wasn't until 9 wks or so, agesGrin

Nw85 · 03/01/2017 21:30

I'm exhausted, OH is annoying me, I can't eat enough food and I cried today. Great start to pregnancy, I'll definitely be more positive tomos!
I've not rang gp yet, will do Thursday when I've got chance.
I'm likely to be under consultant, anyone else?

Stalingrad · 03/01/2017 22:34

Just chipping in re Harmony. I am having it and no nuchal test (which is the standard NHS test). I have had two false positives with the nuchal i.e in two of my pregnancies I was told the baby had a high risk of Downs. I went through nightmare weeks of waiting before getting he all clear. It turns out I just teed babies with thick nuchal folds. I can't go through that again and Harmony gives no false positives and is much more reliable. I was 29 with my first false positive, I'm 38 now so more likely to get a high risk result.

It's a totally personal choice but that's why I'm paying for Harmony.

Shwighty1 · 04/01/2017 06:13

How is the harmony test any different to the blood test the NHS can do? With ds1 my mw booked me in to the 12wk scan late, so the visual nuchal fold test was impossible as ds was too big at 14wks. So I had the full blood test which gave me a result for downs, Edwards... and the others. At the time I did wonder if that is the same test as the harmony one. I can't believe that clinics charge £500 it seems really expensive (caveat that i don't really know costs to the nhs of phlebotomy charges etc) and dare I say taking advantage of people at a potentially very worrying time.

Shwighty1 · 04/01/2017 06:57

Nb I've never properly researched into and I can imagine that there is no price to be put on paver of mind! So fully understand the reason behind anyone wanting to go for it

Amz26 · 04/01/2017 07:41

I understand people's reasons behind it too.. I think I will get the NHS testing but maybe not the other one.. I will have to see what the results!!

How's everyone feeling today? X

Amz26 · 04/01/2017 07:42

*What the results say

Gingerbreadmam · 04/01/2017 07:55

I've just dry heaved all the way into work bork!

Should be 4+4 today but did a cb digi and got 1-2wks so in panic mode.

The harmony test is more accurate as it.tests the babys blood and not.just the mothers if i remember correctly. It can rule out the need for more invasive testing such as amnio or cvs. Quite often people who get high risk for downs go on to get low risk with the harmony test due to the way it is done.

Stalingrad · 04/01/2017 08:16

Hi Schwighty - The Harmony test tests tiny particles of the baby's DNA in your blood stream. It's nearly 100% accurate. The NHS blood tests look at the mother's hormone levels in the mother's blood and is much less accurate.

I'm in the hospital with my son right now. He has to have an X-ray so I told them I'm pregnant & can't go in with him. He's only three but he heard and understood and now keeps saying "Do you have a baby in your tummy???" I bet he will tell his sister's too! I wanted to keep it secret from them until 12 weeks.

MouseLove · 04/01/2017 08:26

I think my sense of smell is kicking in but other than that I'm feeling pretty good. No other symptoms at all. Feeling a bit podgy.

Gingerbreadmam try not to worry, the dating on the CB digis are not 100%. If you're 4+4 you might test 2-3 in a few days. Everything is so blurry at this stage. I got 2-3 at 4+6. I'm probably going to do the next cb at the weekend. I'm 5+2 today.
