Hi all - looks like I'm first here! I'm pregnant with #1, due 2 September. Got my BFP a couple of days ago and already it feels like a rollercoaster ride - I'm utterly thrilled, anxious about the possibility of a loss and terrified at the thought of the birth! But hey, bring it on! Smile

How soon can you have a private scan?

Fluffywallow · 17/01/2017 14:02

Almond I had scans at 4.5, 5 and 7.5 weeks with my DD (the nurse found traces of blood in my urine so they wanted to keep an eye on me)...the first scan that actually showed anything really was at 7.5 where we saw a heart beat - the earlier ones just made me worry more! I'm having a private scan this time at 8 weeks.

Gingerbreadmam · 17/01/2017 14:04

I think from about 6 weeks almond but there's not much to see if anything in some cases as your dates could be slightly out depending on ovulation.

If you can hold off 8 weeks or later is best according to stats.

TriJo · 17/01/2017 14:28

In a case of "second timer spotted" I'm on the Superdrug own brand pregnancy care vitamins, £2.49 a month...

The clinic doing my private scan does them from 6 weeks, mine is booked for when I should be around 7 weeks.

Whenwillwe3meetagain · 17/01/2017 14:30

Almond I'm sure pregnacare is cheaper on amazon, I just got a 90 tablet pack for £12ish I think

puttingourhoodupdown · 17/01/2017 14:47

I'm leaning towards a private scan this time, will aim for around nine weeks i think. Around here thy are between £70-90, does that seem about right?

TriJo · 17/01/2017 14:52

I'm paying £100 in central London, so yes it does.

Fluffywallow · 17/01/2017 14:56

They seem to vary massively in price - ours is £130, insane!

littlepooch · 17/01/2017 15:13

Yes I'm having a private one at 9 weeks and it will be £100 - central London too.

MouseLove · 17/01/2017 15:31

Private scans are £50 in Manchester City centre. Bargain up north lol.

Ginger hope your bleeding stops. I had a really good talking to myself last night after having a stress day. I am pregnant. And until someone tells me differently I'm going to enjoy it. Otherwise I'm going to look back and be disappointed I didn't document these early weeks.

Just had an oh crap moment at work. Went to make a coffee (sneaking the decaf) and someone said oh I'll come with you. NOOOOOO. Thankfully I had bloods taken this morning so made up some bullshit excuse that the "nurse said no caffeine today" lol. Phew.

WhatwouldRuthdo · 17/01/2017 15:38

Ditto - £100 in central London. I'll be about 9 weeks. I'm going to a big meet up with friends afterwards, and they will all notice that I'm not drinking. The early scan is both for reassurance for me, but also to make me feel a bit 'safer' if I have to tell them, if that makes any kind of sense!

charlij91 · 17/01/2017 15:46

I've just booked in for an early scan! Didn't think I would want one but I feel like I just need peace of mind. At 4/5 weeks I felt so nauseous and tummy wasn't right at all, but as soon as I've hit the 6/7 week mark- all sickness has gone! I still know I'm not right, and the boob pain is reminding me that there's still something going on there! But I think I just need reassurance that there is a little heartbeat. Fingers crossed! Will be 8+3 on the day of the early scan Smile

calimommy · 17/01/2017 15:54

Maybe I'm alone but I don't worry about decaf. Nespresso decaf is good so I don't mind that but I'll have caf if not. I also drink my weight in tea. I spoke to a neonatologist about the caffeine argument and they were unimpressed by the scaremongering. Caffeine is often given to neonates as part of their treatment. Like most if not all pregnancy recommendations, these are based on assumptions because it's not legal to do trials and experiments on pregnant women. But some people find caffeine does affect them, whereas my tolerance is sky high from working as a nurse and having two children who don't sleep.
I suppose my point is that you don't need to stress about every tiny detail. Women have been doing this for a long time!! Imagine living in Medieval London where there was little-no water consumed, mostly just watered down wine, and very few vegetables...😬 humanity survived, although I'm glad I'm not doing that myself. Yuck.

TriJo · 17/01/2017 16:01

In January you have the "I'm on a healthy kick" thing if you're on the decaf!

You can have 200mg of caffeine a day anyway, that's one full strength americano and a bar of chocolate, around four cups of tea or . I lived on tea when I was pregnant with DS because I could have more cups of it...

HellsBellsK · 17/01/2017 16:02

Im with you Calimommy Im not drinking decaf - I have the Nespresso decaf and will have them as I like them but thats it. My doctor also said the same as above.
I wont drink loads of coffee or tea but will have one if I fancy it. At the moment I only have tea in the morning as thats all I can stomach.

oliversmummy26 · 17/01/2017 16:16

TriJo I have always read at that there are 75mgs of caffeine in a mug of tea, so sticking to one coffee and one tea a day here at the moment..only really because my mc last year has made me more anxious, when I had my DS I just switched to tea all day...
Just thought I'd mention it...there's a caffeine calculator somewhere..
I'm amazed at how well I'm managing really, I don't fancy coffee much at the moment, so happy with just tea, I do tend to go for Earl Grey as well as I feel like that's less caffeine too..

WhiteLily86 · 17/01/2017 17:03

I am not too bad with coffee. I am still having one a day, but just extra milky cappuccino and shut the coffee bit off early. Not really missing it.

Although someone mentioned chocolate? Am I meant to be restricting my chocolate?!?

I had a pregnancy comment yesterday at work (was having a bad day!) and today we were talking January diets and I said I need to up the gym and stuck my belly out to prove it. They said 'haha, that and dry January are you sure you don't have something to tell us' eeeeek!!! Managed to laugh it off.

Going to have to send a few snapchats with pretend glasses of wine in Feb!!

Popcorn1979 · 17/01/2017 17:08

*ginger it sounds like you have had a really tough time but the bleeding stopping is def a good sign! Mine has also slowed so trying to stay positive.

I agree about not going too early for a scan - not getting a conclusive answer is the worst situation.

Roll on the next couple of weeks!

littlepooch · 17/01/2017 17:09

I've gone right off coffee. I've been trying to drink decaf tea but I just can't find one I like so I'm still drinking normal tea, just not the buckets I normally do. Having said that when I'm really sick I don't fancy anything. I was fairly relaxed when pregnant with DD.

littlepooch · 17/01/2017 17:09

Related to that I am super thirsty though and drinking gallons more of water that I usually do!

EssentialHummus · 17/01/2017 17:10

I'm another one who's gone off coffee. It's weak orange squash all the way here Confused.

Fluffywallow · 17/01/2017 18:05

Fortunately I don't like tea or coffee so avoid that issue but am a Diet Coke monster usually...the caffeine free version is fine though and tbh I've gone off everything but orange squash too (seems to be a common theme!)

Shwighty1 · 17/01/2017 18:29

I've added in the lavazza decaf to my repertoire tho I still have caffeine too. I'm at a conference and have already had 3 people ask me if I've something to tell them as I'm not drinking. Dry January is such a well timed excuse!!

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 17/01/2017 18:37

I'm sorry for all of you missing your coffee - I don't drink it which is a relief now! I'm feeling quite sicky and generally fed up with work and their unrealistic expectations this evening. I can't believe a baby will be at the end of this! Do any of you who have babies or little ones already mind telling me what your favourite thing about having a baby is?

calimommy · 17/01/2017 18:51

shwightly1 I will never understand people asking if you have something to tell them because your not doing x,y or z... like your a bold child admitting something. 🙄 what is wrong with people? If I had something I wanted to tell you then I would tell you. Now bugger off.
