Hellooooo! Did you miss me? Huh? Huh?
Nice to see you were wondering about me.
Lovely to see you back LG&T. Bugger about N being back to Plymouth soon.
How is your dad LWatkins? And your FIL SOH?
Have read through since I left last week and probably should have written down all the stuff I wanted to reply to!
BTW, that news story on the preemie baby - my mum used to be very active in the pro-life movement years ago. Anyway, they used to have these pictures as an argument against late terminations. Back in the late 70s and early 80s they had data and pics about a little baby boy born in the US at 20 weeks who survived, though can't remember his name and one at 21 weeks, I think her name was Kelly Thorman. Amazing that all those years ago, even though we weren't as medically advanced, that they still lived.
Anyway, I'm back. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great most of the week, but it was much warmer than here and it was lovely just to be away. We got a couple of good days and I was lashing on the "tinted" aftersun so I look vaguely sunkissed!
DH lived like a complete slob whilst I was away. My friend arrived at her house in Spain, just before I left today. Her PIL were with her and her DH and the MIL asked if there was any chance my DH would have the nursery done by the time I got back. Oh how I laughed... DH didn't actually do any washing up while I was gone. I gave him a 4 hour warning of my impending return today and he started "soaking" the dishes. There are still hoards of glasses in the kitchen waiting to have red wine soaked off them.
I gave him two jobs when I left. To sign and post the forms and cheque for the hypnobirthing classes and to replace the lightbulbs on the stairs. The hypnobirthing lady rang on Thursday to ask if I still wanted the place and the stairs are still pitch black. Did I mention I filled in the hypnobirthing forms at 2.30am the morning I left for Spain, when I had to be up at 5am, becuase it was so important to me? Then this morning I told him that it would make me very happy to come home to clean sheets on the bed. He stripped the bed when I was in the taxi on the way back from the airport (with effing MENTAL driver who drove up the arse of every other car and flashed them out of his way - wnker) and DH claims he couldn't find the clean sheets (in the cupboard where they always are). DH currently asleep on the sofa. Has clearly been abusing his body all week and could barely speak when I got home. FFS. Sheets stil not on bed. I am not amused. THIS is why I want to give up work after I have the baby. How can I be expected to cope working a 50 hour week, with a baby, a tweenager and a DH who can't even change an effing lightbulb when asked. I mean, it's not like I could ever, ever rely on him to pick up the baby from a nursery or anything. It's pretty pathetic.
Spain was lovely. DD was very good about the fact that (a) the weather was a bit rubbish and (b) that the communal pool on the resort was closed for refurbishment. Had it been hotter I would have gone to the hotel pool and tried to breeze it out as a guest, but it wasn't worth it, with it not being very hot. We did manage to go the beach on the Monday and Friday. Sightseeing Tues and Thurs and lazing about on Weds since it was raining. It was very nice and relaxing and I didn't even mind doing lots of driving becuase the roads were quiet with it being off-season. The city of Murcia was a bit hairy - we didn't have a map until AFTER I'd parked the car in the city centre! It takes me about 5 days to get used to going round roundabouts the wrong way and I looked for the seat belt on the wrong side almost every time I sat in the car! Beach yesterday was a bit of an adventure becuase with it being off season the public loos were closed as was every cafe and restaurant we passed. HAD to get in the sea for a wee. EEEK. Kept reading that the Mar Menor (salt water lake/ sea South of Spain) has a year round temp of at least 15 degrees. Well, it didn't feel like 15 degrees to me! As I got out, some Spanish bloke wearing, I kid you not, a PUFFA jacket was lauging his arse off at us and saying we were very strong as it was SO cold. Now, it was about 20 degrees air temperature and being Irish, we strip off to summer gear by the time the mercury gets to about 18, but the Spaniards all thought were were nuts. You wouldn't believe how many babies I saw wrapped up in snow suit type things inside cosy toes.
Had a dream whilst I was away that the baby came 8 weeks early and I was going into hospital crying about not having anything for it to wear or sleep in. Perhaps that's how I justified spending EUR65 on three outfits from baby Zara the next day! Awh, so cute though. MUST not buy any more frivolous things and make a list of useful things required.
That list of hospital bag things was great. I think I'll probably do a bag anyway, as I'll need all that stuff to hand at home and would be good if it was all together at least, should I need transferring.
Does anyone have a clever list of basics I need for home? Sheets/ bedding/ basic clothing - that kind of thing?
Hope to chat to you all tomorrow. I'm really, really going to have to ban myself from MN when I'm at work. I have to knuckle down and get things sorted for my departure. Was a bit gutted to realise that I could have been leaving now had I taken leave as early as possible and tacked on my holidays at the start. Tsk.
Hope you all have a good Sunday.
