Thanks for the clarification on the childcare vouchers peas. That makes sense.

We've got the smaller version of the Vista, the Cruz, and that's great too. Will have a similar gap (2.3m) and thinking we will need a double as well, but hopefully not for long. Hoping to pick up a Mountain Buggy Duet second hand.

Rustler74 · 30/12/2016 19:19

Omg I'm really starting to panic about the travel systems and childcare costs!
Think I'll be off to bed soon and go through the explanation Peas gave us, as well as th moneysavingexpert website, tomorrow.
Got horrendous cold, so hoping to feel beter tomorrow as well when trying to last until midnight!
G

EsmesBees · 30/12/2016 19:29

Don't panic Rustler! We've got ages yet. I didn't even look at prams until about 35 wks last time (it was all very high risk and I couldn't think about prams until the very end). All was fine. John Lewis will still deliver once the baby is here!

Yes childcare is expensive, but there are cheaper options than private nursery, including subsidised local authority nurseries and nanny shares. You will get it sorted.

Badgerbird · 30/12/2016 20:15

Oh no rustler hope you feel better soon! Lots of rest & water. I'm day 3 in pyjamas, had awful shivers/ temp/headache yesterday but that's gone today so just feel like poop now. Hope we both make it to midnight tomorrow!!

And try not to worry about the buggies etc you have plenty of time Smile

Teaspoon74 · 30/12/2016 20:31

Nurse mum pals have said it can be a bit less stable getting on/off kerbs with a three wheeler is all ;)

Lucie that's the OHs fave. I like but do love the Egg...

Barnes yes. And the extra height is a real selling point for shopping, outdoor snacking etc!

Peas we'll need something bigger than our battered old mini, but no idea what! Any time we Uber/ go anywhere near cars we're scouting, but suggestions gratefully received!

Get well soon Rustler & Badger - just (hopefully) coming out the other side of awful daily sickness. Cyclazine seemed to help.

Happy new year all in case you/I'm not about until next year!!

rose7120 · 30/12/2016 21:50

hello everyone! Smile
Can I join? First baby due 4th May. Based in East London so hello to those who are nearby! The pram conversation is really interesting!
I've been really suffering with pelvic and lower back pain for the past couple of days and worried it's spd, rather than sitting too much at Christmas. I think someone else mentioned they were also suffering and from my research it looks like a chiropractor is a massive help. Slightly terrified it won't go away as I can barely sit and feeling a bit helpless considering the time of year and not being able to get much help.
Excited for the future though!! I've been working out mini-milestones, patiently waiting for the 4 months left mark and then the 24 weeks mark.

MrsJW15 · 30/12/2016 22:48

We spent hours this afternoon looking at buggies! We now have a short list of about six... DH liked the Armadillos but reviews online are mixed and I felt Mamas and Pappas were really pushing it as it's their own make. I quite like the icandy peach.

I am still looking at pregnancy pillows...

mightymouse76 · 30/12/2016 23:04

Welcome Rose!
Hope you get some relief from the pain...that sounds very consuming. A friend had problems like that in her not so distant pregnancy. I'll find out who she used and pass on if that's any help?

WishIWasSleeping · 31/12/2016 07:36

Hi all. Had my 20w scan at 21w yesterday, baby was full breach facing in so took a while to get all the images the sonographer needed. Naughty baby. Gave us a wave tho... or the v's, not quite sure!) Still team Yellow here too! Xmas Smile
We are needing a double as our first isn't walking yet, so I don't think in the next 4.5m she's going to be walking enough just for a board, I think the donkey might be our choosing, as I don't like the ones on top of each other because you can never see both children! Plus I'm told they are heavy to lift up and down stairs with the weight of the toddler being so front or back.
We also brought the maxi cosi I size, especially as it was a much lighter seat without baby that the simplicity (we have a silver cross wayfarer) but we have discovered there is only one bigger car seat that will fit the base at the moment.. (Going to use the little seat for the new baby) so we are actually looking at getting a completely different seat for our first and I'm thinking the massive orange one that I can't remember the name of!
Have also upgraded my car, my much loved fiesta wouldn't be big enough for 2 babies, it wasn't even big enough to get the pushchair in without fuss. I wanted to stay with a 'car' rather than a 4x4, so we've gone for a Volvo and it's a lovely nippy drive!

peasandquiet · 31/12/2016 07:55

WishI how old is #1 what do you think you'll end up doing about cots? My son sleeps so well in his cot I would be serious loathed to kick him out before he is ready just to save a few pennies, he has a cot bed so think I'll end up buying a second cot bed and they can both stay in them till thy go to school.
The donkey is a lovely double, especially with all the extra room it gives you in single mode for carrying stuff when #1 is bigger and walking. Which Volvo did you go for? A V40? They are lovely we have looked at them but feel we need a bigger car for holidaying in the UK so we looked at the XC60 but it's too expensive.
MrsJ how are you managing without a pillow still, my dream gene one is my best pal once again!
Rose I had terrible hip pain (spd) 1st time around and it's returning at the moment, go to see your DR and get a referral to a women's health physio, hopefully the waiting list isn't as long as for 'normal physio'. I'm planning on using kinso tape for extra support this time as it's helped me with other injuries in the past so fingercrossed will help.

WishIWasSleeping · 31/12/2016 08:44

Peas - Hubby said to turf #1 out of her cot to reuse for #2, but as we also have a cot bed that I loved and brought new for #1 I am objecting! I want to just buy another cot bed for #2, as I know they'll last a few years! But I haven't looked around yet, as we have a pod so won't need a cot for a good few months.
I really wanted the xc60, but like you said, it was just too expensive, so I've got the v60. It's still car-like without being too 'estate like', but the boots much bigger than my old car and I can currently get a whole food shop, pushchair and extra bits in it and the back seat is still free! Grin
We viewed the donkey at John Lewis, along with a couple of others and it was a joint favourite, it's just rather expensive and I don't want to sell my silver cross! Shock

EsmesBees · 31/12/2016 09:01

We are also debating whether to have two cots or to move dd into a single bed. Dd is currently in a cot bed with the sides up, and sleeps wonderfully in it so no desire to change that really.

stationaryace · 31/12/2016 09:27

Rabbity my DD hasn't been to nursery so I haven't had to have that conversation with them, but from what I've heard from other cloth users, usually you just need to speak to them and make sure you provide a diagram for using them along with a decent sized wet-bag. If you use birth-to-potty size nappies with poppers, a good idea is to colour in the poppers to use with a marker pen so that they fit them properly to avoid leaks. One of my friends uses a childminder who refuses to do cloth, so she cloths at home and uses disposables at the childminder.

Had 20 week scan yesterday but as the little rascal was lying on its belly they couldn't finish the heart measurements so I need to go back in the new year. Quite glad actually as we just managed a few skeleton face photos Shock so have another chance at better ones. It was great being able to see all the detail (it has my chin!) and the scanner was great as she talked us through absolutely everything she was doing and looking at. I had a lot of extra scans last time due to gestational diabetes and it never failed to surprise me how different it was each time, depending on who was doing the scanning.

DD has just started sleeping in her cot bed with the sides off so like everything else relating to #2 I'm waiting for it to become a problem before I try to solve it.

growcookeat · 31/12/2016 09:35

Hi all, busy few days. Hope everyone had a great Christmas.

Peas we're going to have to get a second car I reckon as public transport is terrible where we are. DH needs a car for work and I don't want to be stuck in the house! Not sure how big to go tbh, we currently have a golf which is a good size and has plenty of space in the boot.

Mrsj I'm loving the dreamgenii, used it for 4 nights now and I'm sleeping so much better. Dropping straight off again whenever I do wake.

Not made any purchases in the sales yet - DH has to do thorough research before committing to anything! Think we're going to go with cotbed and dresser from John Lewis as they are slightly smaller than m&p so should fit in our tiny nursery! They have a discount on a bundle too.

Can't remember who was talking about baby monitors but I was wondering whether it makes a difference having a parent screen bit or whether we could get one which just streams straight to my phone? Seeing as I have it with me anyway.

Those who've used them before - Is there a benefit to having a 'baby monitor' over a webcam for example?

Oh, and welcome new people.
Happy new year to all!

peasandquiet · 31/12/2016 11:24

Another SPD trick, lots of warm baths, does me the world of good also having a water birth was the most amazing relief from the pain.

We have a video monitor and still use it to see if he's properly awake in the morning. I would only get a wifi camera if you or your hband are tech savvy enough to set the security settings properly.

peasandquiet · 31/12/2016 11:25

Sales wise you can get bargains through the year just wait for supermarket baby events they are usually v good.

RasperryInAMelon · 31/12/2016 11:29

Peas thanks for the trick. I think I'm going to buy myself a dreamgenii today. My left side is in pieces Sad

MissMooMoo · 31/12/2016 11:57

Thought I had made a post yesterday evening but it looks like it didn't go through.
My scan took about 2 hours in total yesterday! Baby was lying face down and very low and did not want to move. I went for a hot chocolate and a walk twice and s/he was still in the same position, even waving their fist at us at one point.
They got the measurements in the end.
I have a low lying placenta so we will go back at 33 weeks to check on it and see if it has moved.

Badgerbird · 31/12/2016 12:41

Thanks teaspoon, feeling loads better today, yippee! Here's hoping your sickness stays firmly in 2016!!

I'm staying at a friends tonight and she is lending me her preggo pillow to see if it helps. I'll report back!!

Hi rose, congratulations Smile I hope you get your pain sorted, sounds pretty unbearable :(

Re car size I found my golf or Audi A3 fine for 2 kids from babies through to 10 yr olds. Started with a 2 door Saxo though when they were babies (no isofix, ouch my back!) which was a little more snug but still doable. Obvs a bigger car for holidays/wknds away etc would be much better!!!

When we first found out I was pregnant this time we both had some sort of brain fart and bought a big old camper van!!!! I think we got all emotional about family adventures Confused

peasandquiet · 31/12/2016 13:01

Love that you bought a camper badger that's hilarious! We are going to go for some kind of 4x4 crossover, we live in the middle of nowhere and currently in I have a mini, there is no chance I can get 2 kids, a pushchair with all the various attachments and shopping in there. Time to let go of my beloved mini.

Hats off to all of you going out partying tonight. We will be staying home eating lots of m&s party grub and going to bed well before 12!!

MrsJW15 · 31/12/2016 14:56

I've ordered the pillow! It's a boppy full body not the dream genii as I switch sides so much in the night, I'm not sure the genii would work. I'm currently using a massive blanket instead but it gets all over the place!

Half looking forward to tonight. It's about 15 of us for dinner. I'll enjoy seeing people but my other prego friend isn't coming so I'll be the sober one. Plus I know it's steak, well done for me Hmm . Suspect I'll head off just after midnight.

lullaby23 · 31/12/2016 15:13

Plan to be in bed by 9 tonight Grin

I find our video monitor is very useful though didn't need it early on as baby not meant to sleep alone per SIDS guidelines etc. Sometimes think DS is asleep but he's quietly rolling around like a loon. I had heard the wifi ones had security issues though not sure why someone would hack in?! Only downside is the signal can be a bit dodgy in our flat and it understandably makes an awful noise when it cuts out. Can't say it's the best choice though as very few available where we live.

crazyzooo · 31/12/2016 15:34

Sort of forgot I was pregnant today... Got very lost walking the dog and ended up doing more than 14k... Now in bed with a pregnancy pillow supporting my aching hips, feeling sorry for myself and most definitely remembering I am pregnant... Stupid stupid stupid! I am going to be fun and joy this evening Grin

1004Rise · 31/12/2016 16:12

Went pram and car seat hunting again yesterday, had the guy in the shop try to talk me out of a birth to 4 yr old car seat, kept saying once the baby's sleeping and settled in the car seat you won't want to take them out, (so the 2hrs in one position doesn't matter then!?!?) he also tried to tell me swivel wheels weren't necessary on a pram so not sure I trust much of his judgment. Hmm

I know people slag off mothercare but I think we got much better advice and help from the staff in there than we did from the local specialist. Think we're sold on the Bugaboo, mainly for the simplicity and versatility. Still struggling with the car seat Confused

I had a the same thought about buying a webcam rather than a baby monitor, looking on Amazon they get much better review and if you take the baby tag off things they get cheaper surprise surprise!!

Badgerbird · 31/12/2016 17:15

Woops zoo!! Sounds fun though Smile just hope you recover quickly!

I know peas Shock not really supposed to make important/big purchaseswhen hormonal or emotional I don't think!! Thankgod it was cheap and my DH is a mechanic! It will be fun though Smile
