Just ordered my first vaguely baby related items! I've been on the NEXT online sale and have ordered loads of maternity trousers and 3 baby bodysuits - admittedly 2 are for next winter as it's mainly that stuff which is on sale....

Badgerbird · 22/12/2016 22:24

Eeeeeeek!!! Just had our anomaly scan and all is ok!! Grin We can breeeaathe! Sonographer has put gender in an envelope for us to open Xmas day. May even buy a little something for our little one tomorrow.

Jugoo28 · 22/12/2016 22:29

@lucie we've got a Moses basket and stand instead of a bassinet as I like the idea that it can moved around the house easily. Got mine off trademe (nz version of eBay) for $100 instead of paying $380 for it in a shop, super good condition so worth keeping an eye out on sites like that for a cheapie!

Ghostonthedancefloor · 22/12/2016 23:03

I also started feeling sick again this week at 20 weeks.

ShiniBerry · 23/12/2016 04:49

Joceshe travel sickness bands worked for me, I used them until about 14 weeks after which my sickness mostly subsided. I also ate marmite toast first thing in the morning while still in bed, had DH make me some, I think something about the vitamin B in marmite is supposed to help.

ShiniBerry · 23/12/2016 04:53

teainbed thanks I'll try omeprazole. Constant heartburn is miserable and midwife recommended Gaviscon and Rennies are just not cutting it :-/

Jugoo28 · 23/12/2016 05:10

@shiniberry I'm in NZ so advice might be different here but I'm on ranitidine for my indigestion, it's safety rating is better here then omeprazole (losec).

crazyzooo · 23/12/2016 07:34

Can I please ask some advice from you second (third etc) timers please? I am cautiously starting to look at baby clothes in the sale... How much does a newborn actually need? And 3-6months?

EsmesBees · 23/12/2016 08:24

Great news badger. Really cute idea with the gender.

crazy don't get too much newborn stuff as most grow out of that size really quickly (mine was in newborn for a week before moving on to 0-1 month). So maybe one pack of sleep suits and one pack of vests?

3-6 you'll need more but wouldn't go mad yet as not all baby clothes are similar sizes despite what the label says. So some brands come up long and broad, some short and skinny. It will depend on your baby what turns out to fit best.

Badgerbird · 23/12/2016 08:49

Welcome moon and congratulations!

Good luck with scan today jonsnow

Thanks esme, now we've just got to stop ourselves peeking!

1004Rise · 23/12/2016 11:47

I've officially lost the plot, just been to the butchers for the Christmas meat, normally can't stand the smell of the shop.... today I could quite happily have spent all day in there!! Hmm

RasperryInAMelon · 23/12/2016 12:20

I know they say to contact the Midwife if you've had no movement after you're used to having some. Is that the same with flutters??

Rabbitykins55 · 23/12/2016 12:31

Raspberry I've been wondering the same, from what I've read it's best to call if you are concerned though. At my scan I was told it was moving loads but I couldn't feel a thing, I have the placenta at the front (can't remember the real term Hmm) so I guess that's why, eating and drinking makes it move for me though! I've noticed if I change my routine the movements change too. Moving sends it to sleep but it wakes up when I sit down.

Rustler74 · 23/12/2016 12:44

Hi all
Been awake since 4.40 as my partner woke me up to find what was making the very short high noise every 30 seconds (flat battery of the smoke alarm, which I wouldn't hear without hearing aids so would have slept through it, and did not in the least contribute to his finding it) and I never went back to sleep until 8.30!
I was hungry then baby started to move, then loads of other things and I ended up seeking distraction from my phone. Al, that whilst he was back snoring!
I'm told that you'll be able to tell when it properly moves as opposed to fluttering, and yes moving it does. The fluttering was very infrequent but the moving and kicking is steady and reactive to your own actions. I would always contact the midwife if I'm concerned so I have peace of mind.

RasperryInAMelon · 23/12/2016 13:52

Rabbity you're the same as me - Anterior placenta.

I've called the birthing team where my parents live as I'll be travelling down there tonight and won't have time to get out of work today to go to mine.

They've said I can pop in tomorrow to see a Midwife and she'll have a check with the Doppler which is good. Scares me shitless that they might not have good news so close to Christmas

Badgerbird · 23/12/2016 15:15

I'm anterior placenta too so don't expect to feel anything for a while yet. Hope all ok raspberry, great that you can see midwife there.

Sipperskipper · 23/12/2016 16:34

Another anterior placenta here! Have felt very occasional flutters / twitches, but can go a whole day or 2 with nothing. Was like this before 20w scan too and she was moving around like crazy in there. The Dr that did my scan said many people feel no / minimal movement until 24 weeks or so.

In other news, can I eat St Agur? Its blue and soft but pasturised. And delicious. Its in the fridge and all I can think about.

RasperryInAMelon · 23/12/2016 16:44

Sipper it's been over a week since I've felt anything at all, but like you I was every few days before that. Sat at the day assessment unit in Greenwich waiting to be seen now. Fingers crossed all is ok!

Sipperskipper · 23/12/2016 16:56

Oh raspberry I hope you are ok. Let us know as soon as you know anything.

Shoney85 · 23/12/2016 17:17

Had my scan today, all is well with the baby!!! Chuffed to bits!!

Have to go back for a scan at week 34 as have a low lying postier placenta. Edge is just at the cervix but said it usually moves up. Hopefully does as really don't want a c section.

Great xmas present

RasperryInAMelon · 23/12/2016 17:31

All is well Smile midwife was so lovely and said I was right to come in as the anxiety I was having could cause a negative impact on the baby too. She wouldn't accept my anterior placenta placement because it was a private scan - they'll only go with what the NHS says. She did struggle to find madam but after 20 minutes found the heartbeat which seemed nice and strong thankfully.

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 23/12/2016 18:09

Back from my scan. All was well but took good part of an hour as the wriggler kept wriggling. It's a boy! DP and I are mildly shocked as we were sure it was a girl. It's going to be busy here with two boys.

PeachIcedT · 23/12/2016 18:18

Great to hear your good news badger shoney rasperry and jonsnow! So many scans already. I think my movement is very variable, but I'm on my feet most of the day and I think that sends them to sleep, normally I feel a bit when I'm relaxed on the sofa, but even then it isn't consistent. I like the idea of opening the envelope with the gender result on Christmas Day! Alas I must be patient for my scan!

Brightsmoke · 23/12/2016 18:23

So glad all is ok Rasperry, nice to have the conformation before Christmas instead of worrying the whole time!

I've been off work now for a few days, have flu type symptoms which seem to link into the whooping cough vaccine, even though I was told there weren't any side effects!! Feel like I'm getting better again now, so hopefully sorted for Christmas!

Congratulations everyone on the scans, and welcome to the new people :)
