Rabbity who do you see for your booking appointment and 16 week check if not a midwife?

I have the dreamgeni pillow but I think I am too long! My legs overshoot it and my knees touch each other, so it doesn't keep my legs apart.

Rabbitykins55 · 20/12/2016 21:21

Fox you see a midwife then, sorry wasn't clear in my post. I just mean for general enquiries and concerns. I'm not sure what's normal but friends in other trusts have had access to a midwife throughout.

teainbed · 20/12/2016 21:21

Shini I always end up omeprazole for awful heartburn. Managing with ranitidine just now.

FoxMulder · 20/12/2016 21:29

Rabbity Aha. Still sounds weird. Here you would call the midwife with any queries.

Rabbitykins55 · 20/12/2016 22:35

Fox yeah I thought so too. Hmm I was surprised that you can't even call triage for advice etc. I didn't expect to be just left on my own for so much of it really. The contact I have had has been good though which I guess is the important thing.

I had a pregnancy osteopath appointment today that I booked privately. She was amazing and well work the money !! I am definitely recommend it !

Baby has been very active today moving whenever I was talking! I LOVE IT!
My antenatal care has been amazing, I must say! My midwife team and the GPs I've met have been just brilliant!
I had intake on 14 October (8 weeks) then 10 days later first obstetrician and endocrinologist (long story but always knew I'd need one of those to monitor if pregnant)
Scan on 2 Nov (too soon for nuchal fold measure)
Scan on 15 Nov (measurements done and seemed fine)
Midwife on 6 Dec
... next few appointments planned out well, too. Great relief to know my care is good.

Jugoo28 · 21/12/2016 04:29

Haven't been on here for a while, jealous of everyone's scan, our next one isn't until January 9!

We've bought a pram, got the bugaboo cameleon with 20% off as the website had accidentally marked down the pram when only the accessories were meant to be on sale so pretty happy with the price in the end.

I'm having a terrible indigestion and had to go the doctor to get some prescription meds, the over the counter stuff just isn't cutting it anymore.

lullaby23 · 21/12/2016 04:42

Good news on all the anomaly scans Flowers

A couple of days til we're flying home for Christmas so busy washing & packing, not looking forward to the 14 hr flight with my wriggly toddler but sure it will be worth it?!

I agree it's strange reading how different the care varies between health authorities.

McBaby · 21/12/2016 06:55

We have no midwife access till after 16 weeks before that it's gp or a&e.

Any one with back or pelvic pain find an osteopath who has lots of experience with pregnant people. First pregnant I was signed if from 26 weeks as I had severe spd and couldn't walk, sit, stand or lie for longer than a few mins. Last time I saw my amazing osteopath monthly from 17 weeks and she kept pain manageable and me mobile which was essential with a toddler.

I have seen her once so far.

Also look on the pelvic partnership website lots of tips on how to ease the pain. But basically never stand one one leg or move your knees too far apart. So get dressed sitting down, walk up stairs one stair at a time, turn and both legs together when getting out a car, duvet on top of matesssea to sleep on and pillow between knees, no pushing shopping trolleys or buggies!?!, no lifting or carrying, limit swimming esp breaststroke.

McBaby · 21/12/2016 07:35

I'm in north London if anyone needs osteopath recommendation in the area.

RasperryInAMelon · 21/12/2016 07:57

I saw my GP before my Booking Appointment, but only because I thought she had to refer me to a midwife.

Turns out I was wrong, you can self refer under my trust and I've seen the same Midwife at 8, 12 and 16 weeks and have my next (24 week) appointment booked for the start of Feb.

She's been fantastic and gave me a mobile number last time to text her on whenever I have worries which is reassuring.

Badgerbird · 21/12/2016 09:29

Blimey raspberry her mobile number, now that's service!! I loved "my" midwife when I first met her, we clicked and had a good giggle but I haven't seen her since unfortunately. She was pleased I wanted a home birth but now I'm beginining to wonder if she'll be there, totally understand emergencies happen etc. Last appointment she was doing paperwork so saw diff midwife (the one who laughed at physio) and she held door open for me to leave as I was saying about a worry I had Confused

adventure and mcbaby thanks for heads up re osteopath, I saw a good one with first pregnancy as I seem to get the relaxin hormone very early and my back totally buggered up then. mcbaby you're scaring me with that list Shock I was finishing off DIY yesterday and everything was difficult as not as flexible as before, can't bend over cos of pain and I seem to have a bump in the way!

Keep it coming with these fab anomaly scans!!! Got my early one booked for tomorrow night.....

teainbed · 21/12/2016 09:56

It depends how long you're in labour and who is on duty for home births. If your midwife isn't on call is or on holiday or its her weekend off then it will be whoever is available for the birth.

coxsorangepippin · 21/12/2016 10:38

I've booked into a one-off pregnancy physio class my hospital run weekly for back/pelvis pain. I've got high hopes because their sports physio for a previous injury made the world of difference.
Also asked one of my fab MILs to try her craniosacral therapy for me over Christmas :)
Will report back!

lucieloos · 21/12/2016 11:24

I also self referred to my midwife and saw her at 8 and 16 weeks and will again at 24. She is fantastic and also gave me her mobile number and said to call in at anytime if I have any concerns even without an appt.

Brightsmoke · 21/12/2016 12:21

My midwife is fab too, her and the student one. They both gave me their numbers. Saw them at 8 and 16 week app, and booked in with them for 24 abd 28 week already. Had to text earlier as I need my MatB1 form within the next few weeks as work need it in 4 weeks time!

Been sent home sick from work today as I'm feeling flu-like so hoping with a sleep I will be good again

lalaland1985 · 21/12/2016 13:29

Had my flu and whooping cough vaccines this morning and now feel very sick! Has this happened to anyone else? Envy

CinnamonTwist · 21/12/2016 13:40

Lala I found my flu jab completely fine, no effects at all. My whooping cough gave me achey joints that I noticed, I might also have had other symptoms but I have a horrible cold too... so a little unsure what is responsible for what! The joint aching was definitely the jab as it was worst in that shoulder, then that arm then the rest of my body less achey.

RasperryInAMelon · 21/12/2016 13:56

Gah! I hope it doesn't make me ill! I'm on my way home to go for both my whooping cough and flu jabs now and have family coming tonight for a pre Christmas get together! Envy

Blush anyone suffering with aches in their pubic bone area or is just me!!??

CinnamonTwist · 21/12/2016 14:24

Raspberry no not just you... my lower back aches also and I am getting pins and needles sort of on the point of my hips, worse on the left. So that general area is pretty achey and unhappy!

lucieloos · 21/12/2016 14:45

Is it ok to get the whooping cough injection done before 20 week scan? Just checked NHS website and it says to have it ideally from 20 weeks and after the foetal scan??

Rabbitykins55 · 21/12/2016 14:46

Raspberry I was told I had to wait until after my 20 week scan for the whooping cough vaccination, might be worth checking with your surgery as if I remember rightly yours is in the new year isn't it?

Had mine yesterday, only an achy arm luckily.

MrsJW15 · 21/12/2016 14:47

Lucie when I asked my GP about it, they wouldn't give it to me before 20 weeks. It was just reception, so not a case of medical advice against, just that it was the wrong time!

lalaland1985 · 21/12/2016 14:58

It varies from region to region. I am in Scotland and it's anytime from 17 weeks.
