Thanks for the info on co-sleeping. I'm definitely going to look into it further. Went to my 16 week midwife appointment. She just checked my blood pressure and then let us have a sneaky listen to baby's heartbeat. It was lovely Smile

I love Sarah Ockwell Smith, she also has great info/evidence on why sleep training is harmful.

This is about the fourth trimester. Something which many new mums wish they were told

Vegan sleep training (CIO method) is horrific and I would never put any child through it. DD was so distraught after 20 minutes of sleeping that she projectile vomited. Safe to say I never let her cry herself to sleep ever again. I have seen it work for others though so I think that if it's something you're comfortable with then I am not going to tell anyone how to raise their child.

What I mean is that you may think things are going to work a certain way or your child will be a certain way and they probably won't. Everyone told me that I was making work for myself by holding DD until she slept but she is now nearly 2 and goes to sleep by herself without any soothing from us. I really enjoyed all those precious moments watching her drift off.

I think every new parent needs to know that their baby will never do what the book says and they should never feel that they are a failure (as I did) because we are all just doing our best and believe it or not your gut instinct is always right.

*20 minutes of crying, not sleeping

catlady15 · 20/12/2016 19:30

So glad I'm part of this forum! Really feel like I have no clue and there's so much to learn and think about!

sickofTeletubbies · 20/12/2016 21:03

catlady I still feel like that. Yes I learnt a lot with DD but I'm sure that I'll learn a lot more when this one comes along. I felt so judged as a new mother and felt like everyone was doing the right thing and I was wrong. Especially when it came to the 'professionals' and their mental baby bible. My little girl is now the most polite and well behaved little girl. She is very clever and very funny. And sometimes and absolute little shit. So, do you know what I can't have been that bad. At first you may feel like your drowning or failing but you will be the best mother because we are all fucking awesome mothers. Learn to have confidence in your abilities and please ignore any negativity from others (especially if you have a nightmare mother in law). You will be fucking fabulous, I promise!

16 week appt went well!!! Nice and strong heartbeat and no problems with me!

I mentioned my low PAPP A results and she didn't seem concerned, said to mention it at my 20 week scan and they would double check if I need extra growth scans.

MoonlightMojitos · 21/12/2016 17:18

Well done moose! I'm so hoping she listens to mine on Friday! 17 weeks today :) so my "16 week" appointment is late!

catlady15 · 21/12/2016 17:36

Great news moose! Agreed, Tele, sure I will figure things out!

Walkerbean16 · 21/12/2016 19:23

Is anyone else feeling movements? I started to feel them last week but this week I've not really noticed anything! Is that normal?! I can't remember from the last two times! I've got a Doppler and can hear heartbeat so not really concerned.

DizzyNorthernBird · 22/12/2016 00:10

moose I forgot to ask you, were you told to take aspirin after your screening results? The screening midwife rang me back on Monday after speaking to the consultant about my low hormone results, I've been told to take a baby aspirin daily to help the blood supply to baby.....

Mooseville · 22/12/2016 06:28

Hi dizzy Nope, no one has said anything! That's why I asked this midwife but she didn't seem particularly concerned! My next scan is only in a couple of weeks now, so I'll ask again when I'm there. When they went through my test results originally they said everything was within normal range, just slightly skewed, so maybe it's not low enough to warrant anything done?! Growing a baby is confusing!!!

Monkeyandthebear · 22/12/2016 08:04

I have been told I have low Papp-A too and been put on 75mg aspirin everyday too. My result was only 0.02 below what they class as the average. Been referred for an extra scan at 30 weeks and 36 weeks, and they will decide at 30 if I need any others. Think most of it is precautionary though and that actually he chances of their being any issue are small.

Mooseville · 22/12/2016 08:14

Monkey do you know what your results were? I think mine was 0.47 Mom?
Maybe I should give them a ring!

Monkeyandthebear · 22/12/2016 13:13

The way the midwife spoke, aspirin is a trial thing more than a standard for low Papp-A. They have only been giving it out in our area for 2-3 years. My results were lower than yours are. The midwife did say the research isn't 100% decided on what the effect of it being low are. Some research says there is no cause for concern!

Mooseville · 22/12/2016 13:33

Aaah ok, thanks. I'll just leave it and ask at the 20 week scan just to make sure!

phoebe2016 · 22/12/2016 16:32

Hi Walker, i am sure i felt some movements last Sunday, 5 or 6 in a row, but since then I don't think ive felt anything more. I know its still early (14+1) so trying not to worry too much. This is my 3rd pregnancy, but 12yrs since my last baby. Hopefully more flutters will become apparent over the next week or so x

MumofthreeandBean · 22/12/2016 18:22

I am 17.3 and although I feel movement it's not regularly, and I have 2 in there!

Passmethecrisps · 22/12/2016 20:19

Hello hello!

Had a wee flirt with norovirus but it seems it was just a bug. So phew!

I have read with interest the chat about sleeping options - it isn't a chat which will rumble on and on as there isn't a right answer.

My dd slept beautifully in her Moses basket without any issues. She also really didn't like being held much when she was awake. She used to wriggle and wail and we couldn't work out what was wrong until we bought a bouncy chair - all smiles then. Not all babies like cuddles all the time either - some appear to like their own space.

No movement here yet but it is still very early for me at 13.6. Looking forward to it though.

I was told at my 12 week scan to take the aspirin. I got a letter to take to my gp for a prescription.

I also had to get my bloods taken again for downs as my blood had been "hanging around to long". I had more to test for immunity to slapped cheek so I am like a pin cushion!

Merry Christmas poppy congratulations on your girl!

MumofthreeandBean · 26/12/2016 07:47

It's very quiet here now, I guess most are on Facebook instead? I am trying to do both 😂
18 weeks today! Feeling movement most days now and we think dh even felt a kick last night, special for Xmas day 🌲😊
The list of things to buy is huge!! Think I have nearly decided on a pram though, it's between 2 side by side ones, pretty sure I don't want one behind the other, or under the other 😂
Hope anyone still reading here is doing great x
