Rosylily...........

kittywaitsfornumber6 · 16/02/2007 18:12

Spongcake, your body can start limbering up for a while. In my last couple of weeks of preg my bh's can be every 10mins and last for hours and then suddenly stop. It can be very frustrating.

foxabout2pop · 16/02/2007 18:25

oooh I want another birth on this thread - and soon!!

Piffle · 16/02/2007 18:27

sponge I totally sympathise
I get woken by heinous BH's too.
From memory when I actually woke with labour I wrote down what the difference was
a strong period type across the very lower bump and pulling through across my back.
Lasting much longer - upwards of 1 minute
Totally unable to speak, sit or stay still during them.
Getting more regular and closer together.
In my case 2 at 9 mins aprt then every 3 mins
The worst news is that I had BH's like you (and am getting them now) for over 5 wks
But on the plus side... labour only lasted 1 hr 20 minutes )
But the lack of sleep is driving me to despair...

rosylonginglily · 16/02/2007 18:30

Yes I get that sort of thing for a week or two at the end. When my labour starts properly I get a dull stabbing ache down below which builds and fades and then keeps coming, so I clearly know the difference but everyone seems to have varying experience of how labour feels.

rosylonginglily · 16/02/2007 18:35

What I mean is some folks don't seem to feel such a clear difference once labour starts.

rosylonginglily · 16/02/2007 18:40

Sorry spongecake didn't mean to scare you!!

TheBlonde · 16/02/2007 18:47

Just spent an age reading all the new msgs
Now too tired to post anything useful

Welcome lisjane2

Mossy - good news on Natwest, sounds like a great result

kittywaitsfornumber6 · 16/02/2007 19:03

Who's due next then? Iirc Amie is right at the start, Bethoo's been given a date at theend of Feb.

Mossy,it's gonna be you and me on our own at the end

morocco · 16/02/2007 19:11

sorry about b hix/lab pains spongecake - I got them last time the day before labour started - the difference was not so much the early stage pain or the regularity but the b hix were only across my stomach - the lab pains definitely went right across to my back. still a sign things are limbering up for action. you might already be a bit dilated already, you never know!

diva, my ds1 is 4 1/2, ds2 is almost 3, do you mean was he too young to be left to put himself to bed??? I would definitely say so yes, but dh is generally far too relaxed on matters of young children and baths (you can search for my previous whinges on the subject it's a losing battle I fight mostly by making sure it's not dh in charge of bathtime

Booboobedoo · 16/02/2007 19:34

Hi Everyone.

Morocco: sounds like DH needs a slap. You can give him one from me if you like: then it's not your fault!

Mossy: fantastic news about Natwest. My brother worked for them for years. Frankly, they're wankers. Terrible employers too.

Foxy: hope you can relax and enjoy your maternity leave. You sound like a woman with a lot of energy: I stand in awed admiration. I've got all the verve and get-up-and-go of mashed potato atm.

BTW, that woman sounds like a PITA. Good on you for being forthright. My new employee is like that. To be fair, she's never been through pregnancy so doesn't really understand how physically and emotionally overwhelming it is, but phoning me at 10pm to talk through her last class with me... the mind boggles. She was also annoyed that I wouldn't come and see her dance show in North London at 8pm on Valentines Day. Me: nearly 38 weeks pregnant. I've been quite forthright with her too . La la.

Welcome lisjane2: nice to 'meet' you!

Hello again Chocolatepenny.

Piffle: how on earth do you function after a sleepless night like that? I'm like the living dead atm, and I'm getting about 4 broken hours a night. No kids, so I can nap in the afternoon. It's not my bladder though, it's hip-pain and chronic heart-burn, plus whirly-headed endorphin madness. My bladder is driving me mad when I walk instead. Feels like cystitis, but I guess it's because he's 3/5 engaged.

Spongecake you sound miserable. Here's a . Hope DP's being sympathetic. Like Piffle, my BF got major BHs, but had 2 very straightforward deliveries. Just keep telling yourself 'every BH softens things up to make my labour hurt less'. Feel free to tell me to shut up!

I hope I get my homebirth. The GP was supportive (it was Dr Bruml Dolly: must have just missed you: I was there at 9:15!) after giving me the obligatory warnings, but the Community midwife was a bit flappy on the phone. 'Ooooh, it's very late, we usually like to have booked you in by now' etc etc. I think she was waiting for me to do that middle class thing, i.e. 'Oh, well, if i's too much trouble, please don't worry about it'. It didn't though . I just let her cluck until she realised I wasn't going to change my mind, then started on the practical details. I'm meeting them next Tuesday, so if I go into labour before then it's a hospital birth for me!

Must go: DH is home. Catch up with everyone else tomorrow!

EDD 3/3
37+5
Boy

LunarSea · 16/02/2007 19:35

Where is Amie? She hasn't posted since Wednesday, and she said she was going to Aquanatal last night but she wasn't there..... I think she's due on the 1st - so at 38 weeks+ I'm wondering if anything has happened?

DollyPopsOut · 16/02/2007 19:46

Hello everyone

After yesterday's excitement, am feeling rather tired. Been out all day as the builders have been in doing fireplaces and I need DD to go to sleep so that I can hoover. Have washed my hands so much they are bleeding - clearly am going a bit bonkers. everything in the house is filthy though and I am generally quite immune to a bit of grot.

Welcome LIzjane

No more news on my friend's baby. She was going for a planned CS as she had her other 2 by CS but when she got to hospital she was fully dilated. There then was a long debate about whether she would try for a vaginal birth, and she didn't in the end. WHen he was born, he wasn't breathing and needed to be resussitated . I hope he is out of NICU now and into SCBU or better still with her. He was off oxygen yesterday and breathing by himslef so that#s a good sign.

Sorry not to respond to anyone's messages but feel shattered and can hardly think straight. Am off to my parents tomorrow so I have 4 hours of sitting on a train to look forward to. At least I can sleep .

Booboo hasn't been around for a couple of days. She's due at the beg of March. DO you think she might have had the baby?

DollyPopsOut · 16/02/2007 19:53

OK, scrub the last bit about booboo going into labour ....

divastropwantstodrop · 16/02/2007 20:30

oh yes,amie-she was meant to be having a scan yesterday wasnt she.

omg, have i really got less than 2 weeks left of being in my 20's??

i'm trying really hard to remember how it felt when the 'prostin pains' turned into labour pains, but with my last baby the pains i got in the first stage were no worse than bh's so i'm worried i wont know the difference this time untill i'm 10cm dilated .i dont know why but i just have a feeling this time is going to be different.

fox-good luck with your stalker.is it half term there next week?

morocco-i would have thought a 4.5 year old would still need supervision in the bath and help getting dried maybe?i know i could leave my older 2 for a couple of minutes at that age without worrying they would drown but i think they were about 6 or 7 when they started bathing themselves from start to finish.
men!

bethoo-sorry i keep meaning to reply to your post re induction.although its possible to have a bearable induced labour(im talking about if you have the drip)i think i would rather have had the option of an epidural with my first.ive been told by those whove experienced both spontaneous and induced labours that when its natural, the pain builds up gradually giving your body time to get used to it but with induction its 'forced' and sudden and a shock to the system.

divastropwantstodrop · 16/02/2007 20:34

booboo-my mum used to work for natwest in the 60's and 70's(from when she left school to when she had my sister).i know when she first started she got £6 a week.

LunarSea · 16/02/2007 20:37

diva - my 5.5 year old can not only be left in the bath for a bit on his own, but he's been known to decide he wants a bath and run it for himself. He even seems pretty good at getting the water temperature right! He's a real "Mr Independent" though - doesn't like having anything done for him if he thinks he can do it for himself - so having to everything for a newborn again is going to come as a bit of a shock to the system for us I think!

lisjane2 · 16/02/2007 20:40

Hi again,
OH has gone out down the pub "just for a few hours" i don't expect to see him till midnight. I'm 22 and have not minded not going out anymore, i just don't see the appeal. but it does annoy me that he can just go out and have "his break". but now i can eat whatever i want!! i think a takeaway is in order with a big tube of ice cream!!!

lisjane2 · 16/02/2007 20:43

Tube???

rosylonginglily · 16/02/2007 20:58

Yeah lisjane, just you enjoy yourself! You deserve a tube of icecream! And so do I and now you've given me the idea...I think I have some in the freezer

divastropwantstodrop · 16/02/2007 21:02

lisjane-is your dp the same age as you?is he going to stop going out once the baby arrives?

lunar-my ds1 is 9 and he sits in the bath while he's running it...then wonders why his skin goes all red.i had to give him a crash course in dressing himself before he started infant school.i always thought it was girls who were independant but i mudt just have lazy boys.

lisjane2 · 16/02/2007 21:22

No his nearly 7 years older, he'll be 30 next year. i don't think he'll stop, hasn't since i had our son Mason who's 18 months. I know his just out with a friend and his not down a night club but when i went out about 2 weeks ago with a friend i hadn't seen in ages he was ringing me up load! i trust him and everything it just annoys me that i've grown before him!! MEN!!!

lisjane2 · 16/02/2007 21:24

Grown up, i mean!! god where is this pizza and ice cream!! i need food!!! it's effecting my brain!!

divastropwantstodrop · 16/02/2007 21:38

my dp is 23 and im (very) nearly 30.neither of us go out though,i think we both started young and have both grown out of it.

enjoy your pizza

rosylonginglily · 16/02/2007 21:42

My dh loves to go out. He is a night owl, but usually I really don't mind, I get some peace then I just get annoyed if I haven't seen enough of him to get sick of him. Or if I really need a break then I throw a wobbler and he finally gets the 'hint'! Generally I just mutter 'my day will come' under my breath!
