Laidback, I am currently skiving from sorting out the girls' bedroom .

You know the system will try any old reason to get you into hospital?
How big was your last?
Did you have probs birthing him?
Were there comps?
Sorry, it's a load of b*ocks.

If you want this baby at home simply decline their suggestion politely and say that you wish to start labouring at home.

If complications are arrising you will transfer. You are not prepared to forgo the chance of home birth on the off chance that he might be too big.
No one knows how big a baby is until they are born. Guestimates are often wildly inaccurate.

Laidback, listen to me(bossy Kitty now) I am 5'4 and 1/2 " Am am a pretty small framed woman. My fighting weight is about 7 1/2 stone, my hips are narrow. My last baby weighed over 9 lbs and I birthed her very quickly . She was perfectly able to escape. She has a bloody huge head AND she had her elbow poking out to the side.

Why would they suggest you couldn't safely birth this baby? Just a tactic to get you to go to hospital. You live close to the hospital don't you? No probs then now I'm mad

morocco · 16/02/2007 12:03

hiya lizjane - not surprised you didn't read all our messages we chat a lot!
internet was down yesterday - catastrophe! - thank god it's back again. and I found out I'd won my first ever ebay bid!!!!! I'm well excited! It was for a baby grobag so I'm one more item along the 'to do' list

leo - bet those niggles are the start of something - the waiting is frustrating though!

mossy- hope dh's interview went well

rosy - sorry about your dh flying out and not getting to see him much. hope he remembers to phone lots and check up on you

thinking of you all, of course, but that's as many messages as I can remember

off to mw in an hour - will let you know what position dd has wriggled into now

did anyone else see that prog about twins/multiples in the womb last night - soooo cute (apart from graphic c section shot)

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 16/02/2007 12:07

Laidback I can't advise but am for you. I hope you are able to stand up to her.

It really pees me off that they will take time out their busy schedules to mither women this way, and yet when you actually need their help with something they are useless.

(Disclaimer: I am not saying that all MWs are like this I'm just talking from my very limited experience!)

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 16/02/2007 12:09

Xposts Morocco congrats on your ebay bid I always chicken out and use the "buy it now" button! Dh's interview did go well but he didn't get the job, story's a bit further down, but in a way I'm happy about it.

LaidbackinEngland · 16/02/2007 12:09

Thanks kitty for your bossy words of wisdom

Have had a bit of cake and have calmed down a bit... I literally am 5 mins from the hospital here. It's the whole friggin reason I came back from Sri Lanka !

Will stand my ground !

lisjane2 · 16/02/2007 12:11

i watched it! didn't realise how long it would be!! i didn't mnd the C-section bit but the live birth details was off putting!!! you know that it has to push out the baby but to actually see it!! i'm so glad i can't see whats going on down there or i think i'd it more painful than it is.

Piffle · 16/02/2007 12:14

nice to see a new face on here - welcome lizjane.

the hospital where I was under with dd, told me dd was 8lbs at 36 wks scan and I should therefore be induced asap
I (not so politely)declined, dd was born at 38 wks (of her own accord)weighing... 7lbs 8oz
I think someone on MN was it prettycandles perhaps had an almsot 11 lb baby at home with no drugs and no tearing etc...
Was a few months back.

Like kitty I'm quite small hipped but have babies really quickly and easily (well that was the last two am presuming this one will just tow the party line)

Well I am guessing that my sleeping pattern is the worst on here.
Had to drop ds off last night at midnight to school - he is on ski trip to France for half term, got home, found teenage girl crying on neighbours driveway so sorted her out with getting them up to help her.
Discussed odd scene with dp til 1.30
then
insomnia
tossed, turned until 3.30am when dp's sudafed wore off (he has bad head cold) and he started snoring like an express train
I finally abandoned the marital bed for ds's empty bed at 5.30 but could not sleep.
Arrghh so dp is off work today with his cold so I've been asleep all morning and feel modestly human, although you would not say that to look at me
Also getting a lot of regular hard B Hicks, some quite painful lower down
Ho hum, this last 5 weeks cannot go fast enough methinks...

lisjane2 · 16/02/2007 12:14

i love e-bay! i'm currently selling some mills and boon books and its exciting watching people bid, i'm trying to save up for a electric breast pump, i had loads of milk with DS so mite as well freeze some. I think also thinking of the tens machine, is it any good? worth renting?

divastropwantstodrop · 16/02/2007 12:17

welcome lizjane

i ferel tired today but in a better mood than i have been for a while.i think i'm finally accepting that i really am going to have this baby and not be pregnant for all eternity.

i tend to sleep unless one of the kids wakes me(one of the lo's that is).i dont have extra pillows either.i think im just used to being pregnant and having babies.

moss-i used to dry my clothes etc on an airer and just finish them off in the dryer.now i have to do at least 2 full loads of washing a day and would need about 15 airers and a whole room to put them in,so i just tumble dry everything, even in the summer

laidback-how can they say thats a reason for not having a homebirth?we all know how inaccurate these measurements can be.

kiwi-lol at bluewater via dartford.tbh ive only been through the blackwall tunnel a couple of times and i actually meant to say dartford(as its bigger)but couldnt remember what it was called at the time.

36+2

muppetisacat · 16/02/2007 12:19

Laidback - if you are so close to the hospital then really... stick to your guns - such a quick transfer into the delivery suite should you need it should be no probs surely? As Kitty says - these weight guestimates seem to fluctuate so very much - every measurement I get seems to contradict the last!!!

Mossy - I got my moses basket on ebay - it was a mama's and papas one plus the wooden rocking stand - all for bargain £25. Plus is was nearby to my parents who picked it up for me hence saving me postage!! It is immaculate and I know it retails for around £70 for just the basket. Defo worth looking!

Welcome Lizjane

Where are you foxy??? You've usually posted by now - are you having a crafty lie in???

Sure this baby has turned - keep needing wee which haven't suffered from up til now....

divastropwantstodrop · 16/02/2007 12:24

moss-i used 'buy it now' for the pushchairs etc but i bid for my phone(which is my new friend)and was getting all excited at the end watching the bidding.
my ebay adventure has finished now cos ive got everything

Piffle · 16/02/2007 12:37

I bought my pram and tons of baby clothes off Ebay as well - the pram was a huge bargain as I bought it week before xmas when prices dive and it was as new £200, £230 cheaper than buying new! it's an icandy apple.
I'm a true ebay hound though
The only things I'm buying new are vests, some baby nighties, bedding and mattresses/carseat bath and bowls etc

Have saved a bundle and got a really good stash of great stuff!

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 16/02/2007 12:40

Catch up in a mo. But wanted to share this with you from a candidate's covering letter:

I would ideally like to work within Liverpool's city centre as a tranny accountant.

Ah, it was from that Drag King advert I placed then I take it?

OP posts:
Chocolatepenny · 16/02/2007 12:58

Oops someone's going to feel a fool! lol. Thanks for Welcoming me back everyone, and glad my book was appreicated! See I'm no the only one looking forward to another nights dreadful sleep tonight! Cramp is terrible and I'm really starting to resent my Newly named 'Husband' for taking up space, at least when he was by BF I had the option of kicking him out!

Chocolatepenny · 16/02/2007 13:01

Off to see the MW now, and she'll squeeze my lower belly in that horrible way they do. Catch up later.

kittywaitsfornumber6 · 16/02/2007 13:01

Mossy rofl at 'tranny accountant',where DO these people come from? .

I too love ebay. Dp likes to put bidsin at the very last second!! I really want to sell some stuuf after this baby is born but setting myself up as a seller is really off putting me off. It seems like such a lot of work

kittywaitsfornumber6 · 16/02/2007 13:05

Yeah, that's strange, I've not have one episode of cramp either this time . I've always suffered badly in previous pregs.

Don't know what's going on Starting to panic, so :
No midnight wees
no midnight cramps
little or no spd

Am I infact just fat and not preg atall?

foxabout2pop · 16/02/2007 13:07

Here I am Here I am Muppet

Tranny accountant!!!

Hi Lisajane - I love TENS machines and find they really help in the first stages of labour - the vibrations ease the pain and using them helps you feel in control of the pain. But some people on here didn't like using them.

Still missing my colleagues

Yeah, I am going back to work after 6-11 months, depending on DH's work situation.

I really only want to go back p/t so have to work out a way of doing that as we have mega mortgage to support atm....

Diva - LOL at your poor old fango!!

Kitty - thanks, I may try another sleeping position as I've been on my side and the spd is worse when I get out of bed.

Had a go at another Mum this morning - won't go into it but it was severely provoked (Oh OK I know you're dying to know - she keeps following me around - like a shadow asking the most banal questions, so I just told her its driving me up the wall ) I'm too tired and PG to mother other people atm..

hee hee

foxabout2pop · 16/02/2007 13:12

Kitty - well what's that big bump then???

Oh no that woman from the school just rang me saying "why were you cross with me, I don't think I did anything wrong" wanting to have a huge discussion about it

Why can't she understand that I'm 38 weeks PG, have been working full time, have two small kids, help at the school and am totally knackered. Too knackered to have her follow me round all day asking endless questions and too tired to then have to spend the aftrenoon discussing it the phone with her!!

Please tell me I'm not being mean

I was really looking forward to winding down today and feel like I'm being stalked

LaidbackinEngland · 16/02/2007 13:20

Foxy not mean .... can you go to school in disguise ?

LaidbackinEngland · 16/02/2007 13:22

I've just noticed the add to the right of this thread for virgin health bank... I bank with virgin and thought I would have a look -

It's all about "banking" your babies stem cells from the umbilical cord after birth .... Only £1600 ...any takers

foxabout2pop · 16/02/2007 13:37

Laidback

Oh BTW, I think the NHS are trying to scare you into not having a home birth. I get the same thing from my hospital - re not wanting Monti induced . They'll try and guilt trip you into thinking you are taking a huge risk so you succumb to their wishes, just 'cos they find home births a bit inconvenient..

ooh it makes me cross

am going to try and find false moustache now....

kittywaitsfornumber6 · 16/02/2007 13:44

Foxy, what sort of quesitons is she asking? She might have a bit of a thing about you? Do tell, do tell
I have found sleeping with my legs out front(as oppposed to to bent to one side), with loads of pillows to keep me propped up and one sort of underneath my back for support has been great for sleep (me and baby) and spd.
On the odd occasion when I do sleep onmy side the spd is awful all day, particularly when I get up

Laiback I don't understand banking stem cells

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 16/02/2007 13:49

Guess what guess what guess what guess what?

Go on, guess!

OP posts:
boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 16/02/2007 13:49

No I'm not going into labour...

But NatWest have written to me and they want to settle out of court! They will not accept liability for the interest or the legal fees (about £250 that we've paid) but they will refund the bank charges!!!
