Wow can't believe I'm here 😁 I had a look, but couldn't see any other threads. Hopefully I won't be alone.

This will be our second baby. DS is 3.... 4 in january. EDD should be about 2nd August I think.

Hope I'm not alone for too long!

Thanks ladies.

mrsg I've found shloer is OK, hugely sugary though so would welcome some alternatives too.

MrsG280516 · 13/12/2016 15:41

I've just been having a Google and apparently Sainsbury's do a nice alcohol free sparkling wine. It's only £2.50 so I'm going to see if there's any at my local and give it a go.

AiryFairy1991 · 13/12/2016 15:44

Hello ladies!

Wondered if anyone knew what painkillers we can take? I've suffered with migraines for years and got a bad one today and I don't think I'm allowed to take the painkillers I was prescribed for them now I'm pregnant! Not had any appointments yet (although have self-referred to midwife) so not sure whether to contact doctor who doesn't know I'm pregnant or just deal with the pain?

WantingBaby1 · 13/12/2016 16:13

fairy avoid if poss - I've been told I can't take my migraine med. My Dr said paracetamol, but if really bad I can try codine but only I see her first. Sorry you're in pain Sad

Fattycowagain · 13/12/2016 16:15

Airy, normal paracetamol is fine, not sure about others. Ibuprofen type painkillers usually aren't recommended in pregnancy.

AiryFairy1991 · 13/12/2016 16:16

Thanks girls, I've just dealt with it today and not done too badly, under a quilt watching miracle on 34th street right now though!

Lizzielicious · 13/12/2016 17:15

MrsG I've been drinking elderflower cordial with soda water. It's really nice! (Still not as nice as wine though!).

Sorry to hear about the migraine Airy. We watched miracle on 34th street at the weekend - great choice to cheer you up!

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 13/12/2016 17:19

Airy I would go to the GP and tell them you're pregnant and have them advise on what to take. They'll probably say only paracetamol but at least you've asked.

For anyone with a stuffy nose or sinuses, I recommend a Neil Med sinus rinse. It's a squirty bottle thing you use to flush out your sinuses with salt solution. I've used it during sinus infections and when stuffed up with hay fever and it brings blessed relief. It's safe while pregnant. It take some getting used to at first but I love it.

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 13/12/2016 17:23

Oh, and my inlaws are tee total and buy Sainsbury's fake champagne which dh and I hate. Last year at Christmas we bought Sainsbury's finest sparkling juice, I think there was an elderflower and another one, and they were really nice. Much better. Lately I've been having the Sanpellegrino sparkling water with juice. I like the orange one. I'm also happy with plain sparkling water and drink that when I'm feeling sick, ie all the time.

Blink1982 · 13/12/2016 17:51

Airy you can use those little sticks you rub on your forehead and temples etc... not tiger balm I believe though. The one I have is called 4head

Aw thanks Blink that's a shout!

AlpacaRabbit · 13/12/2016 18:46

Apart from the drinks what is everyone intending to do about the other festivities? Christmas pudding? with brandy? brandy butter? I know it is only a little alcohol, which is probably mostly cooked out anyway but first trimester is when you have to be the most careful... Hmmm not sure...

firsttimer12345 · 13/12/2016 18:48

I've been avoiding all booze so far but don't know if I will manage on Christmas Day itself as the dinner will have already been prepped by the in-laws before we tell them!

MrsG280516 · 13/12/2016 18:52

Alpaca I personally wouldn't worry about things like that in foods, it won't be anywhere near enough alcohol content to do any damage.

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 13/12/2016 19:44

I wouldn't worry about Christmas pudding or cake but I also wouldn't eat them because they would make me sick!

Sparklyuggs · 13/12/2016 19:54

I had mulled juice from waitrose which you drink warm which was nice, and the ribena winter spice was nice but sugary.

I find a cold compress helps migraine pain.

AlpacaRabbit · 13/12/2016 20:39

Ah you say that MrsG but the daily mail (illustrious publication that it is) reckons a slice could push you over the limit!

HairyScaryMonster · 13/12/2016 20:44

Hi everyone, I'm due 6 August, i also have a daughter who is 2.5. I've been holding off joining as I had a miscarriage in September and didn't want to get excited too soon, but the morning sickness and tiredness are ramping up so all looking 'good'!

It's quite interesting the chat about disguising not drinking from family and friends. I'm torn between not telling anyone til 12 weeks because it's the 'done' thing, and being more open with those closer because I'd want to tell them if the worst happened anyway.

I wonder if as a society we start to become more open about miscarriage whether we'll be less bothered about waiting to tell those closer to us.

Sorry to be melancholic! Excited to join the club!

WantingBaby1 · 13/12/2016 21:02

Agree with you monster about wishing society was more open about miscarriage. I told my closest friends v early on as I saw them every day and needed the support. Going to my parents when I see them, I'll be 7 + 4. I don't see the point in waiting, I want to share the news and have the support if anything goes wrong.

oatybiscuits · 13/12/2016 21:05

Welcome hairy! I think it's a good point and I'll definitely be telling close family before 12 weeks. However we told the pils because we were staying with them for a week and although it was nice to tell them it was a bit like 'I'm pregnant; but it's really early so we're trying not to think about it too much'. Later announcements are definitely more celebratory!

HairyScaryMonster · 13/12/2016 21:11

True about being more positive announcement later. I'm telling people I'm pregnant, with a slightly wry 'hope it sticks!' Comment afterwards!

If I was feeling fine and not exhausted and nauseous all the time I'd probably hold off telling more people as they don't need to know.

HairyScaryMonster · 13/12/2016 21:12

Changing my name from this Halloween hangover. I'll reintroduce myself shortly!

Fattycowagain · 13/12/2016 21:15

I did tell my boss today. I just feel like crap and thought it would be best to tell him why, instead of keeping making excuses. He won't tell anybody else though, as it's not his place to tell.

BellyBean · 13/12/2016 21:15

Aand I'm back! Let's think positive ladies!

Fieldsandgrasses · 13/12/2016 21:34

I was pretty open last time (happened to be seeing a lot of people for a drink one on one and didn't want to lie to good friends) told parents too. This time I haven't got any social stuff planned so no need to tell anyone particularly. Not even planning to tell parents at Xmas. I'd rather tell them when it's all looking a bit more positive or am further down the line to save them the worry of another MC.
