I'm 36 but I'm going to stick with the NHS tests and only do harmony if I come back as high risk. I was 35 when I gave birth to dc3 and my risk then was 1 in 35000 so I will try not to worry until I get NHS tests back.

KittyVonCatsington · 17/11/2016 21:51

I'm 35 and when I got my results last time, I was 1:180 and everything was fine even with 'low' odds like that, if that helps to reassure anyone?

Hermano · 17/11/2016 21:53

I had harmony yesterday, my paranoia that my low ovarian reserve means my one egg which managed to get fertilised is bad quality. Irrational but means I can tell people next week rather than having to wait for NHS test at 13+4 then potentially harmony after that.
So now to wait for the bloods...
Good luck everyone else with scans, whichever option you go for.

hoping you have nothing to worry about Hermano

Difficultyear2015 · 17/11/2016 22:02

Room for another one?

I'm due 8th June.
I have 12 week scan booked next week.

After a rocky start I'm starting to feel a bit more relaxed. Hoping all is well at 12 week scan

Difficultyear2015 · 17/11/2016 22:10

Do people usually share their news once they've had a 12 week scan or wait until screening results?

MoonlightMojitos · 18/11/2016 01:27

I found a dress for my Christmas party at last! Ordered 6 to try lol and this one is perfect and the drape bit hides my bump/bloat! It's a fancy cocktail dress hotel party so for the price as well I'm well chuffed :)

mrspage1985 · 18/11/2016 05:24

Cat lady and rose I wish u both the best of luck with your Screenings
I am going to do some more reading because the NHS accuracy rate doesn't inspire me too much! Xxx

mrspage1985 · 18/11/2016 05:26

Difficultyear im so rubbish at keeping a secret that some people already knew before my 12 week scan (though only because we had had 4 private scans all showing healthy heartbeat etc) then after the 12 week scan we told most of our friends and family! I know a lot of people who didn't telll till after our screening x

Hermano · 18/11/2016 07:36

That dress is gorgeous mojito!

Snowdrop2016 · 18/11/2016 07:45

difficultyear I'm in 2 minds when to go public, our parents and siblings know but no one else so far.

I'm a bit confused by all of the screening options, I am thinking of having the harmony test but was going to get the NHS one first.

Do they take bloods at the 12 week scan or is that done separately? I'm just a bit worried that I've only got the one appointment and my midwife has said I prob won't see her again until 18 weeks because of Christmas.

element19 · 18/11/2016 08:04

Morning ladies. I went back to work yesterday after 3 weeks off for HG (I'm surprised they recognised me!) but have relapsed and back off work today. This is so grim. In the time I have been off work, I have got my dating scan and harmony booked in for 2 weeks today (my hospital now include harmony whereas this time last year I had to pay £500 for it) and also had my first consultant appt. She and I both cried while I told her my story (typically my notes were nowhere to be found!!) but I feel confident that I have a care plan in place.
Happy Friday everyone, I've been inspired to use today to seek out some festive maternity clothes too after reading this thread.

Gosh hope you feel better soon element. I was about to have a right moan about constant trapped wind but feeling very fortunate that it's not HG x

Loving the scan photos, does make it seem more real somehow. Although I'm at the back of the bus as my booking appointment isn't for another 2 weeks. Feeling impatient!

Happy Friday x

oliversmummy26 · 18/11/2016 10:27

catlady I'm counting my scan (13th December, scan buddy! Smile ) as 3 weeks from next Tuesday, can't wait!

At the moment though I have an irrational fear of MMC and that we're going to get there and there'll be nothing in there Sad

difficultyear we are definitely waiting until after the 12 week scan, if the sonographer can give us the NT measurement there and then and it's good, then I might tell my parents that day as we're seeing them that afternoon. But I'm tempted to wait until Boxing Day as that will be when we see all my family for Christmas so we can tell them all together. DH's family we might tell on our Christmas Day facetime chat as they live further away...

We have decided to wait for the NHS screening results before deciding on whether to go private, with Christmas coming we'd rather save the £400 if we can. So if low risk then I'm happy to stick with NHS..

snowdrop I think it varies from place to place when they take your bloods. Here my MW told me to book them from 10 weeks, but ideally before 11 weeks as then I'll get the results quicker. So they're booked for 10+6 then scan is bang on 12 weeks.. But I know some places you have your scan and they take your bloods after at the hospital..

8+3 today Smile

oliversmummy26 · 18/11/2016 10:28

Wow - long post, sorry! Wink

WellieWanger · 18/11/2016 12:53

9weeks with a much wanted miracle DC2. Nausea been awful this time around. No motivation either. Elected C Section last time but will be pushed for vbac this time, though not sure I want it. Consultant led. Worn out but delighted. Had a scan at 6+ and all looking good. Can't wait for 12week appt to come through.

LorrieJ · 18/11/2016 13:34

The NHS hospital I'm booked in to offers the Iona test as a private option. Iona is similar to harmony in that it tests DNA for the same trisomies with similar accuracy rates. I'm not sure how they technically differ, but faster turnaround as samples get tested in Manchester rather than America or China.
I wasn't sure whether to go for it instead of or after the combined test so spoke to the screening nurse. She played devil's advocate and asked if I got 1:100000 risk on the combined test would I bother with Iona? I said no, which helped me answer my own question. I'm going to see what CT comes up with then decide whether to have the Iona.

Veganmama do you know which crib you want? I've been looking at the snuzpod but can't for the life of me work out how to use it with permanently dropped side without being uncomfortable or risking creating a gap between the mattresses. I'm less keen on the Next to Me due to the lip. I didn't think it would very conducive to middle of the night half asleep (let's face it, unconscious once they've worked out what they're doing) breastfeeding.

Congratulations haveacupoftea and all those who've had scans recently, lovely photos!

We've only told my parents so far, will tell everyone else after the 12 week scan - not going to wait for the combined test results to come back I don't think so long as all looks well on the scan/the NT measurement is normal. Don't plan on paying for the harmony/nifty unless the combined test comes back as high risk - I'm 29 and had a low risk result last time (1 in 100,000).

LorrieJ I used the snuzpod with DS and planning on using it again - the side zips down completely and can lay flat onto your bed. You could cover it with a blanket or, what we did, was fold it in 3. I found that bridged the gap between my bed and the crib but wasn't in the way so easy to slide DS in and out. We left it down permenantly for the 5 months we used it and the mesh was a little bent after though so you might not want to do that if you plan on selling it on.

VeganMama83 · 18/11/2016 16:38

All the bedside cribs I've looked at don't go high enough to match our bed (I need 60cm). Think we will look at modifying the ikea gulliver. I would just bedshare/breastsleep but I have my 3yo and 2yo sharing with us and I don't see them wanting to sleep in a separate room anytime soon (I'm in no rush to move them).

LorrieJ · 18/11/2016 17:13

Thanks Lemon that's really helpful. I couldn't get my head around covering the side so it doesn't cause discomfort but is still safe / no loose covers etc.

Vegan I'd co-sleep in the bed too but I'm too nervous to do that when they're really little. I only started co-sleeping with my DD when she was 6 months. The cot seems like a nice compromise. In the meantime, she's only recently been evicted from our room (also 3yrs) but it's been a while since she slept in our bed. She's too much like a drunken octopus for any of us to get a decent nights sleep!

DizzyNorthernBird · 18/11/2016 17:48

Congratulations to everyone who have had scans today! Lovely pics!

Midwife called me today, booking in appointment is booked for Monday afternoon. Finally I feel like I'm catching up! She was keen to see me soon because of the Doctor saying I'm 10 weeks. Hopefully this will mean my scan appointment will also come through quickly.

Hello all, welcome newbies!
I'm away for few days with DD so not coming on much.
Got my nifty results through today and so happy all has come back very low risk for trisomies and other genetic conditions screened for.
Also very excited to know that we're having another girl! 💕
