minniethemouse · 28/02/2007 13:26

laska, sorry not to response. i also put my name on the nct classes but hear nothing from them. is anyone know when we have to do the class? No worry on your binkin, i am doing the same on swimming everyweek and sometimes i put a tee on because my bump draws too much attention towards the kids in the pool.

by the way, i had my nuchal scan in morning. very relieve. it is in low risk, even though the doctor said terrible when he asked my age.

spraklynewthing · 28/02/2007 13:34

Hi Minnie,

I have booked NCT place - in my area classes for sept start in June.

Exciting!

rachelandbumpsmum · 28/02/2007 15:16

Hi Laksa.

I'm booked into Farnborough only because I went there last time and I figure it's better the devil you know! Also, my other choice apparently is Lewisham and whilst they apparently have the best kids A&E in the area I haven't heard good things about their [having brainstorm and can't remember what the blessed dept's called] baby department.

I'm hoping for a VBAC. I had to have an elective cesearean last time as Rach was the wrong way up - they wouldn't let me try and push. Although only 10 weeks in and not having had a scan to prove that there's anything in there other than trapped wind yet, I'm incredibly nervous about the birth.

I might have to change my nickname as my name's not Rachel - that's my DD's name! Rachel and Bump's mum - geddit!! I wanted to go for something sophisticated and witty but I'm decidedly dim at the mo and that's all I could come up with!

rachelandbumpsmum · 28/02/2007 15:26

Blast - pregnancy brain strikes again.

Laksa, I meant to say about swimwear. Personally I usually favour an all in one as I've never been particularly comfortable with my bod but the only time I've ever considered a bikini was when I was pregnant last time - if you can't get your tummy out now - when can you!!

On the bra question - I'm currently wearing my last times maternity bras but I think I may have to go and buy some new ones. I think EllieG's right - it's worth having some utility bras just for now - there are some really nice breastfeeding bra's out there for when it's all settled down a bit.

laksa · 28/02/2007 15:40

farnborough is the new Princess royal University hospital right?? If so,then I may see you there if I don't get my homebirth

rachelandbumpsmum · 28/02/2007 15:51

The very same. Good luck with your home birth. I really wanted one first time and it's out of the question for this one. I was so excited about it - we were going to hire a birth pool and everything (well, I hadn't told DH that but never mind!).

Ah well. Maybe next time!

laksa · 28/02/2007 16:01

when is your midwife booking in appointment, I've got mine on the 8th march which is quite a bit before my scan at kings on the 19th.

with regards to the homebirth, my doctor was quite anti and said I would have to wait and speak to the midwives so still have that hirdle to cross. Don't really like the surgery that I've recently registered with but can't face changing again and risk more duplication of notes etc.

xx

EdieMcredie · 28/02/2007 16:03

Hi everyone

Sorry for being depressing the other day, I was well rough!! Feeling a bit better again now.

Will be 12 weeks tomorrow

Im wearing those M&S ones too MrsMar and agree they are uncomfortable.

How are you all?

Welcome Rachel (even though it's not your name-don't worry im named after a balamory character...)

Flossam · 28/02/2007 16:07

Hi everybody, had my Booking in app today (12 weeks) and things went ok. M/w slightly concerned over the whole anitbodies thing so will be interested to see if all is ok when I go back the end of March. They weren't able to hear the heartbeat, which has worried me a little bit. She well prepared me for the fact that She might not be able to, but even so, you do hope.

She was really positive about the idea of a homebirth and I think may well have sold it to DP, which is why I dragged him along. She told him about one she had been to where the children came down in the morning to their new baby. DP kind of went all misty eyed and said 'I could just see his little face!'. Will wait for him to get home from work to see what he thought, was there for an hour and half an he had to get back to work.#

We also discussed the screening they do. TBH I think I might not bother with it all. I wouldn't be keen on amnio and if it were a DS baby I personally wouldn't want to end the pregnancy. Need to talk this all through with DP though, who may differ from me I think. Anything like the spina bifida would be picked up on the anomoly scan in a couple of months. I hope I haven't offended you with this TeeCee, can completely understand what you mean. Please keep posting and just try and remember that we are all in this together, puking and whinging etc!

My main issue with indegestion still. I have good days and bad days with it. Talking of decoration too I have been redoing our bathroom as it was in desperate need of brightening and freshening up. It is so far looking quite a bit better. I want to start on our bedroom next...DP not quite so keen!

Chattyhan · 28/02/2007 16:33

Hi everybody

was back in the EPU yesterday - the last place i wanted to be at 11 weeks - with more bleeding.

Everythings fine and no one can tell me why it's happening. I've had nothing for 3 weeks and really thought it had stopped but it was great to see the baby wriggling around on the screen.

I chased up my 12 week scan appointment only to find out my midwife hasn't referred me which is why i haven't heard!!!

Still very tired and i'm really not enjoying this pregnancy!

Nicki10 · 28/02/2007 16:37

Hi Everybody

I am finally going to do it and join in I have been reading this thread for the last 6 weeks. I am 10+5 today with my first and am due on the 21st Sept.

I wasn't going to join until 12 weeks due to a horrific MC in Augustbut couldn't resist any longer. I have had 6 scans so far! I know lots and lots but last time was a nightmare and I have been bleeding since 5 weeks with this one but it seems to have stopped now. Fingers crossed.

I am also going to Farnborough and I have my booking in appointment on the 13th and my nuchal scan on the 12th at Kings. So maybe I'll meet some of you then.

Hi all, Welcome to all the newcomers! We're due the same date Nicki, but I haven't been officially dated yet. Whereabouts in London are you? Where are you having the baby? I've got my 12 week scan next week too, but I'm muuuuuch older than you, so I'm a little nervous of the nuchal scan.

Thanks for the tips about bras... I think I'll go somewhere that's got a decent lingerie dept, like John Lewis and get properly measured and fitted.

Those M&S ones are uncomfortable aren't they Edie? Very disappointing!

Hi Ellie, I've got huge boobs and spent years in bad bras so I think I'm probably past worrying about stretching, but no point in making it worse I suppose. My Dh is from Jersey, I'm afraid I lured him away!! We're going back for a wedding in June, really looking forward to it, I seem to only go there in winter, and get totally windswept going for beach walks!

Nicki10 · 28/02/2007 17:52

Hi MrsMar I am in Crystal Palace and I'm meant to be having the baby at Farnborugh but I'd like to have it at Kings as they're much better IME.

I think we all worry about all our scans I know I do. I had one only yesterday but I have had some cramping pain today and am now panicking even thoug it's probably all just stretching!. So I can't wait for my nuchal a week on Monday, they can apparently tell you the sex now at Kings as the technology has got so good!. The doctor who scanned me yesterday said there he is! and I was so excited but then he told me he calls all babies he.

I'm also not sure what to do about bra's as i'm normally a 32H and they are so hard to get and horrible anyway that my DP says he'll have to make me maternity bras with ratchet straps and bags, men really know how to cheer you up don't they!.

HammerHeadShark · 28/02/2007 18:10

Hello everyone - haven't been on for a while as I have been feeling sick as a parrot and more tired than a tired thing - but was so relieved this morning to wake up feeling better. Have been feeling so guilty about neglecting my girls - they have been watching far too much Cbeebies - so have been out and about playing with them today like a proper mum.

Friendly wave to all of you who will be at the Princess Royal Farnborough - I work there, but not in maternity, on the next floor down on the Intensive Care Unit - can sometimes hear the odd labour yell from upstairs when I am on night duty!

Had one of those 'OMG how are we going to cope, what have we done' days yesterday as we only live in a 2 bed flat and could do with moving before no.3 (or 3 and 4?? eek) arrives. Have also had some very vivid dreams about it being twins again but will have to wait for my scan to find out

Hope you are all feeling ok - am looking forward to 'blooming' in a couple of weeks time - colossal chocolate consumption helping to try and achieve this.

rachelandbumpsmum · 28/02/2007 18:20

Hi Laksa - I haven't got a booking in appt yet - I'll be seen at Beckenham hosp for all my appts and just the birth at Farnborough. Mind you, when we finally get there I'm going to be going round asking everyone if they're mumsnetters!

Edie - actually I thought that was sort of cool and wished I'd thought of it myself - I keep seeing other peoples nicknames and suffering envy for their obvious creativeness!

I can't remember who was saying about indigestion but I'm right there with you. I'm going through gaviscon like there's no tomorrow at the moment.

Drat, storymakers has finished - I must away to bath DD. The fun just never ends!

emalushka · 28/02/2007 18:38

Hello everyone,

Haven't been online for ages - has took me ages to catch up! Sorry if I miss anything. Congratulations to all the newcomers. I'm now 12+1, so am very excited. No scan yet - where I live scans are booked at 20 weeks!!! Have got the midwife coming to the house on Saturday though so will be frantically cleaning all Friday night.

As for bras - I've started wearing maternity bras - from M+S - slightly too big so I can grow into them. Don't want to advertise the shop, but the assistant was really helpful and spent a long time with me. Plus the bras are great - okay, not very attractive but so comfy and cosy.

I'm really enjoying being pregnant - is anyone else? My baby loves excercise... if i'm feeling knackered and sorry for myself, a quick half hour walk or some time in the gym and I'm loads better.

emalushka · 28/02/2007 18:45

Just read all the stuff about m and S bras been uncomfy... just ignore my last message, unless you haven't tried them yet.

canadianmum · 28/02/2007 19:29

Wow, loads of posts since I last checked!

Mrsmar - I had a private scan at the Fetal Medicine Centre with my first pregnancy, that is where I found out I was having twins. They were so amazing and helpful and kind and knowledgeable that I went back there for my 20 week one too. I had a later scan at King's and the "service" just wasn't the same - I felt very rushed and didn't get very thorough answers to my questions etc....ended up leaving in tears. I am sure that St. George's is fine, I just feel more comfortable going back to FMC for the two scans. And if I need to have CVS or amnio to clarify anything I would have that done there too.

Teecee - I can totally understand your feelings regarding nuchal scans, etc... The only thing I would add is that sometimes we just want the information from these scans in order to prepare ourselves for possible future issues, not necessarily to take any drastic action - if that makes sense??

I am still wearing underwire bras, I don't remember hearing about this issue last time round, but I am being exceptionally superstitious and will wait until my scan next week before making any new bra purchases.

rachelandbump - your nickname is a heck of a lot more exciting than mine! I really must change it to something creative and fabulous........hmmmm any ideas????

minniethemouse · 28/02/2007 19:34

welcome back emalushka, today i am 12+1 too.

other than M+S anywhere i can buy the bras. i went to M+S but they are quite big for me especially i had a surgery on one side of my breast.

sorry to hijack...

Laska, are u travelling by air on your holiday? I have to go on the business trip on similar date (business not lesiure), i wonder do i have to discuss with my gp or midwife my trip?

EdieMcredie · 28/02/2007 20:15

Nicki10 Think I remember you from last year-I was Edie123...

SheRaPOP · 28/02/2007 23:09

I too have just been wearing my normal underwire bras, or should I say 'bra' as only one really fits now. Might go shopping on Sat to see if I can find some cheap but comfy ones.

To those having scans at St Georges - I had one at 8 weeks at the walk in clinic, and they were just wonderful. I think the later scans are done in a different dept, though hopefully they will be just as nice as the ladies in the walk in. I have to go to Mayday for mine as St Georges turned down my referral

Minnie, my midwife mum said she wouldn't recommend me flying past 7 months, especially as I'm going to go back to Australia and it's a long haul. I believe there is also an increased risk of DVT for pregnant women... perhaps they might take pity on us and 'bump' us up to business? (pardon the pun!) We can only hope anyway

Teecee, it's been really comforting to hear your positive experience of raising a DS child, and it's really good to have you in our group to give us that insight. I have a lovely aunt who has DS, and she's now in her 50's. I'm having a nuchal, but I know that this can indicate any chromosomal issue, not just DS. There are varying degrees of DS too, aren't there? Anyway just wanted to let you know your comments are appreciated

emalushka · 28/02/2007 23:17

hello,

Anyone preparing for or have any advice about stretch marks?

MrsMar · 28/02/2007 23:45

Hi Nicki, I was so tempted to pop in for an unscheduled scan, just say something like I've had some pain. My sister persuaded me not to as she did that with her second pregnancy at 7 weeks and they told her the baby wasn't growing and would probably miscarry, she did two weeks later and said the waiting was agonising. But the wait to see if everything is ok is just as terrifying! I hope your scan next week is all ok.

Canadianmum, I'm glad you had a good experience at st Georges, my sister did say they were great with her when she kept turning up for scans for her third pregnancy (after previous miscarriage) they were very good at calming her neuroses!!

I think a bra shopping trip is the order of the day for me. poor old dh is really down cos he bought me loads of gorgeous underwear for christmas and I don't fit in to any of it now!!

Emulshka, i'm riddled with horrible stretch marks from teenage fat surge, so I'm dreading having them all over my stomach as well as my hips!!! I'm going to moisturise moisturise moisturise!! Will be very interested to hear of any other solutions (other than industrial quantities of
stri-vectin which I cannot afford!!)

Nettee · 01/03/2007 07:20

Hi everyone, not posted for a bit as not much changing here. Just waiting for that scan...... 2 weeks to go.

Feeling a bit better again but still really tired.

Was complaining away last night about the misery of early pregnancy to someone who I then discovered has recently had a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks - feel really guilty.

DS is 2 today so we are in full birthday mode with tea and cake this afternoon.

EllieG · 01/03/2007 08:24

MissMar and Emalushka - I have been recommended stuff called Bio-oil (can get from all good chemists) is specifically designed for scars/stretch marks/general intensive moisturising (in fact, if you read label, I think it can cure the common cold as well)...
I have been loading the stuff on twice a day as also have loads of stretch marks already from fat teens/twenties/life, and don't want any more.
Oh and Rachelandbumpsmum, sorry for calling you Rachel, it's just by the time I came to post I had forgotten exactly what your name was and could only remember the first bit!

MissM - can't believe you took one of our fellas! There's not that many nice ones to go around you know.
