Yeah I feel fine too, not sure I'm going to feel too great by 1130 when I haven't eaten anything since last night apart from the sugary drink though!

Celticlassie · 12/01/2017 08:03

I've got the hypnobirthing book but not opened it yet. I've heard it's good for relaxation in the third trimester and for getting you through the early stages of labour but not so useful when the hard but starts! Wink

Cuppaqueen · 12/01/2017 08:11

Wow, I don't check the thread for a few days and suddenly the first two babies are born! Congratulations Luchi and Scandi on your little fighters; sounds like they are both being wonderfully well looked-after. Smile

Is the glucose test becoming a standard now? I had to have it yesterday but that's because I'm overseas and it's routine here. Is that the case in U.K. now too? The worst part for me was the sugary drink on an empty stomach, made me feel nauseous like it was week 5 again!

purpleviolet1 · 12/01/2017 08:32

Congratulations on the arrival of the lovely babies!! So exciting but obviously a long journey ahead. Sending lots of well wishes your way.

The diabetes test is not standard here in Scotland but they did it for me anyway as I had 80% of my pancreas removed a few years ago and am at higher risk of becoming diabetic regardless of pregnancy. Haven't heard anything so assume all is ok Smile

I am anaemic however and feeling tired and breathless a lot. Hope the iron kicks in soon!

28+6 today

We are doing a 'mindful birthing' course which is based on using hypnobirthing techniques. Had our first session last night. DP isn't that convinced by it but he suffers from anxiety more than I do so I really think he needs to embrace it!

marmitecheesetoast · 12/01/2017 08:45

Abe I'm doing hypnobirthing too although I've just got the maggie Howell book and CD like celtic and pink. Would be interested to hear how the class was though? I've listened to the CD twice so far and have read the first chapter of the book, all making a lot of sense to me at the moment about 'mammalising' birth etc. Hopefully it'll be helpful. I also go to a pregnancy yoga class where we do quite a bit of breathing exercises which are suggested for labour ans positive visualisations so thinking it sort of ties in quite well with that. I've also got the JuJu Sundin Birth Skills book as something alternative to read but haven't look at that yet.

Hope those with glucose tests get on ok today, I really don't fancy having to do that!

I had another fall yesterday, have really hurt my hip, think I'm definitely becoming that stereotypical clumsy pregnant woman! Didn't hit bump so no need for anti D though which is good. Think hip is going to be rather spectacularly bruised though!

So the midwife called and said my fasting blood sugar was slightly higher than it should've been. I've to attend a group discussion on how to manage it on Tuesday. She said they could do the GTT test but I would still have to attend this discussion so to do that on Tuesday anyway. Feeling quite worried although I already knew I might get it because of the nature of the op I had few years ago (had 80% pancreas removed). Does anyone know how it will be managed? Is it just by diet initially to see how it goes?

abeandhalo · 12/01/2017 11:49

My understanding is that initially they try to manage it by diet & exercise, yes. Also, I don't think they let you go too overdue.

Just back from my test, had to sit in the busy, hot waiting room on metal chairs for 2 hours in between tests, but it went quicker than I thought! Just came home for a quick stuff of my face after 13 hours of fasting, now back to the hospital in a minute for a growth scan!

abeandhalo · 12/01/2017 11:52

Oh and re the hypnobirthing, the first class was kind of an introduction but everyone I have heard of / know who has done it just thinks it was the best thing since sliced bread.

It all seems v logical really, that your body would naturally not do as well at labour if you're producing lots of stress & fear hormones b/c it assumes you want to give birth when you are a safer & calmer.

PinkUnicorn1990 · 12/01/2017 12:16

Hope all goes ok purple

Abe* I found it went quicker than I thought too, although I had a midwife appointment in between that I didn't know was going to happen! Thankfully all ok there too. Fundal measurement a bit high, but more than likely just my belly!!
Fingers crossed for both of us for good results!

SharkBastard · 12/01/2017 12:58

Hi purple when I was pregnant with DD my sugars came back elevated and I was able to control them with diet and exercise alone. I wasn't allowed to go past 38 weeks, but I'm not sure if procedure has changed.

I have my GTT in 2 weeks along with growth scan. I'm sure I'll have GD again so will manage by diet and exercise again!

Cath3081 · 12/01/2017 13:06

Congratulations Luchi and Scandi ! Welcome to the world Arlo and Bundle.

Abe I've got my glucose tests at the beginning of Feb. I'm petrified of needles, so dreading it! I've taken the whole day off work to recover from the trauma. Lol. Let me know how it goes

XxBecxX · 12/01/2017 14:39

purple I was missed out with my last healthy pregnancy for the gtt and when my sugars started to increase after 30 odd weeks they gave me a blood test machine and I had to test at certain points of the day, and if my levels went over a certain number 9 I think, I had to ring them, they never did anything about any of it tho lol

purpleviolet1 · 12/01/2017 15:57

Thanks ladies for the advice! Makes me feel a little better knowing what to expect.
