Marmite - that sounds exactly like the hospital where I had DD. It was always very chaotic and urine & BP were always done separately. I had consultant appt at 16 weeks which was instead of seeing a midwife. Ultimately I ended up in tears because speaking to a consultant is not the same as seeing a midwife and like you none of my concerns were addressed! So I do sympathise!

jobrum · 04/11/2016 22:40

marmite hope you have a nice relaxing weekend ahead! My 16, 24 week etc mw appts are all with a community mw at the GPs. They appatently don't routinely listen for heartbeats at 16w now. But you should get a chance to raise issues at every appt, that's part of what they are for.

Because of all my pg related migraines, Ive hit the sickness trigger point at work so have to have a sickness review meeting. I'm not sure what to expect, I don't see how I can have an improvement period as the only way I can change it is not being pregnant. Ive seen a consultant neurologist, I have a doctors appt next week to discuss the medication, Ive worked through a lot of migraines and really struggled. Im a bit worried it will lead to more formal improvement procedures. Sorry for the moan!

ChatEnOeuf · 04/11/2016 22:56

I've been having both consultant and mw appts Marmite, though only see the consultant at the hospital - mw is community.

Rhesus 101: our blood cells have antigens on them - in our Rh example, Rh+ people have RhD antigens. If we come into contact with the opposite kind of blood (an Rh- person sees Rh+ blood), we make antibodies to that blood and destroy the cells. Antibodies can cross the placenta - broadly speaking A Good Thing (preventing infections...). Unless the baby has Rh+ blood, in which case those maternal antibodies cross the placenta and attack baby's blood, having pretty dire consequences. Anti D acts against the formation of these antibodies. These antibodies are rarely a problem in first pregnancies as they don't form in ignore numbers in time to cause significant problems in the baby. The biggest formation is at delivery. However subsequent pregnancies are a big risk. I'm not sure I'd trust a blood test looking for fetal blood groups just yet, I'd sooner have the jab.

I'm still eating about five small meals a day!

ChatEnOeuf · 04/11/2016 22:58

big enough not ignore. No idea where that came from!

Helbelle75 · 04/11/2016 23:50

Your week sounds hideous marmite, sorry your manager is not very understanding. Fortunately my work have listened to my concerns and we have a few compromises.
I didn't get to listen to the heartbeat at the mw appointment, but she took my blood as there were concerns about raised platelets, then we had a chat about how things were going, so I didn't feel rushed.
Hope you have something nice planned for the weekend.
jobrum pregnancy related illness can't be counted the same as noreal illnesses -I hope they'really being sympathetic.

jobrum · 04/11/2016 23:57

That's what I thought helbelle, I hadva lot if sick leave for the same reason last time and it was discounted. I wondered if I'd annoyed my manager in some way!

Mustbecrazy123 · 05/11/2016 07:51

Hello everyone! Late joiner here! I'm on the may group but my due date is April 28th so I thought I'd start chatting with you lovely ladies. Haven't had a chance at a proper read through but you all must be nearing 20 week scans on here?

choccybiscuit · 05/11/2016 08:17

Welcome mustbecrazy!

marmitecheesetoast · 05/11/2016 09:08

Thanks all. I think cos I'm at such a busy hospital trust in such a big city (Manchester) it's just always all very rushed. I've felt that way with all the appointments to be honest but this one was the worst. After 20 week scan though I think all my MW appointments are in the community at sure start centre so hopefully that might be a bit better and allow a bit more time to actually speak to the MW!

Thanks for the Rh 101 Chat! Smile The MW never really explained to me

Not sure it's so much a relaxing weekend... off to see DHs family this afternoon which is always a bit difficult... then continuation of the mammoth house DIY tomorrow Hmm will have to make sure I fit in some nice relaxing time too!

jobrum maybe they just have to do some sort of box ticking thing to say they've had a chat with you but I'm sure it will be fine, it's a pregnancy related illness, there's really nothing they can do

CajunKitty · 05/11/2016 10:14

I'm having both a consultant appointment and a midwife one week after next. I expect the consultant one to be quick as I was only boarder line in needing to be referred.
Jobrum I'm a civil servant and all pregnancy related absences definitely don't get counted in my sick leave allowance. Do you have a HR department or HR guide? I'd do a bit of investigation before your meeting if they are taking it down the formal route.

jobrum · 05/11/2016 13:35

Thanks cajun and marmite. Im in the civil service so hopefully it is just box ticking. I don't normally worry about work stuff! It doesn't help that on my to do list for the week was to organise my work so its clear for if I'm off sick. Then had two days off sick and my manager found it in a bit of a mess! I have some medication suggestions from the consultant and will discuss with my dr next week which one would ne best so hopefully I'll be having less time off soon.

MyGreenSofa · 05/11/2016 16:01

I'm sure you're right about it being box ticking jobrum, sure it will be fine!

So I had my private gender scan this morning and I'm team blue! We were quite surprised as both felt like it was another girl! But we are very pleased and I feel better having seen him!

That means your emotion theory works out for me celen!

Lemon27 · 05/11/2016 18:15

Hi all can I join? I'm 18 weeks today and just thinking today I'm a bit of a preggers loner and I don't know anyone in real life who's pregnant at the moment to talk about stuff with! A friend recommended the groups here!

This is our first and we conceived quite quickly so it took a while to get over the shock and get used to the fact we'll be having a new addition! Due date is 7/8 April as my doctor and last scan gave slightly different dates. Next '20' week scan isn't until end of Nov so I'll really be 21/22 weeks.

Q - and apologies if this was discussed already in previous threads - has anyone bought or can recommend a pram/travel system? We have been looking around and going to keep an eye out around/after xmas for any deals. At the moment I think I'm between the new iCandy Strawberry Style and the Uppababy Vista. Would love to hear other people's opinions!!

Mustbecrazy123 · 06/11/2016 07:40

Oh what's then emotion theory? My private gender scan is next week I can't wait.

MyGreenSofa · 06/11/2016 07:47

Welcome Lemon!

There was a bit of chat about travel systems previously. I have a britax affinity which is really lovely to push, the car seat, carrycot & seat all easy to clip on & off. It's pretty bulky but most travel systems are. I did consider the uppababy vista too which I really liked too but DH thought it was a bit flimsy. Can't remember if it has 3 wheels? I've found 3 wheelers tend to tip a bit when you need to go up curbs etc.

MyGreenSofa · 06/11/2016 07:48

Mustbe - emotion theory is if you're feeling quite hormonal it's a girl, if not so much then it's a boy!

TopKittyKat · 06/11/2016 09:21

MyGreen, Mustbe - by that theory I'll be having a boy. My scan is in three weeks and we plan to find out. Can't wait!

CastleFeck · 06/11/2016 10:59

Welcome lemon,

I have a bugaboo cam and maxi cosi car seat. It's 7 yrs old now so there's probably something newer and better available.
My tips would be look at weight, you'll be lifting these things in and out of cars for 2 years and if they weigh a lot and are a pain to put together you'll be pulling you hair out.

jobrum · 06/11/2016 11:20

Welcome to Lemon!

I have a Vista, the 2014 version. Love it, its very sturdy, the basket is huge and although its not the smallest I get it through doors, buses etc just fine. The new ones are much better for adding second sears, I'm planning on keeping my toddler in it and getting a sling for the new baby.

purpleviolet1 · 06/11/2016 16:12

Hi everyone, nice to see chat about baby stuff Grin has anyone ever been to the mamas and papas outlet in Sheffield? Is it worth it?

purpleviolet1 · 06/11/2016 16:15

I thought I heard it was in Sheffield but cNt find one there, looks like there is one in York though...

Lemon27 · 06/11/2016 16:35

Thanks MyGreenSofa, Castlefeck and jobrum I'll try go back and have a read of the travel system discussion. I presume the uppababy is the most recent model and yes it seems quite good and yes takes the second baby fairly easily! The sales lady said that I was like hang on let us have this one first!!

I agree with the weight - I'll be the one doing most of the lugging it around etc. Also not sure if it will fit in my boot as I have quite a small car! Will have to do more research.

I'm going to have to go buy some maternity pants and jeans this week, pretty much busting out of most of my trousers and jeans, I bought the belt extender in mothercare which i find good so far on my jeans but not work trousers. Not really showing at the moment I think I just look like I've put on a bit of weight , anyone else got a proper bump? I'm looking forward to mine popping properly!!

finova · 06/11/2016 22:12

I don't fit the emotion theory yet....I was way more emotional with both boys.
I'm very tired this time though....my 3 year old has said a few times 'growing a baby is hard work'!

sarahhh1984 · 07/11/2016 09:29

Morning all! Been a bit quiet for a few days but had my 16w midwife appointment today (I'm 16+1).

As with all my midwife appointments, it was at the local children's centre rather than hospital or GP's surgery. All my blood tests had come back clear, BP was fine and no problems with my urine sample so all good there.

She mentioned that they don't listen for the baby's heartbeat at this stage as standard and went into a big long talk about how at 16 weeks the heartbeat can be too faint to pick up which can cause parents to be a lot of worry. But she said if we wanted - and if we promised not to panic if she couldn't pick up anything - she would do it. We decided to give it a go as I've felt the baby moving so I know that everything is OK down there. So she gets the doppler, still looking all concerned that we won't hear anything and cue our baby sounding like he or she is playing a drum kit down there!

I just burst out laughing because it stands to reason that any person produced by me and DH is going to be loud as anything.

It was so lovely hearing it though.

Anyway, sorry for long post - I just wanted to share what the midwife said as I know some of you have been wondering about hearing the heartbeat at your 16w appointments.

Puggleface · 07/11/2016 10:37

Hello ladies, So I may have over done it a little bit yesterday. I went Christmas shopping with a friend and she is a mega shopper! I didn't quite realise how hardcore she is about shopping. Plus side is I got a few stocking fillers and gifts sorted. Downside was I pretty much spent the whole of the afternoon walking around with quite strong Braxton Hicks for 17+3! And today I have the worst fanny dangers! Everytime I get up from my desk I feel like the baby is going to flying out. I'm fine when I sit down but when gravity hits its like the baby is bouncing on my cervix. No other pains, just really uncomfortable when I walk or get up to do anything and I just need a good old moan!
