I got some maternity jeans in the post today from a friend - Topshop Leigh and Topshop Baxter... oh my they are comfy! I'm only 5+1 but.... elasticated waistband :-)

I've also heard great things about M&S maternity leggings so I'll be ordering a couple of pairs of those.

And I really rate bravissimo sleep tops for sore boobs.

These antenatal threads are really special, I couldn't remember when to go for booking in so I searched on here and spent most of Sunday reading back through my last antenatal thread. It is like a diary! And there is so so much I had forgotten. I now know when I started to feel tired (8 weeks!) when my back started to kill (10) and when I chose DSs name (9!) I'd also forgotten how paranoid and terrified I was before the 12 week scan that he'd be gone when the sonographer looked.

Monkeyandthebear · 25/10/2016 11:45

Dizzy she is about 20 odd weeks so she was doing the open twists, but nodded across that it was what I should be doing later. I hope to keep going throughout but will see how i feel with tiredness and sickness.

Sixisthemagicnumber · 25/10/2016 11:50

sweetpea at least 50% of people asked us if it was planned last time. It got to the point where I started responding with "no, I don't know how babies are made, I missed that lesson at school"Grin
I could half understand if I was 19 in transient relationships with baby number 4 on the way (and even then it would still not be their business) but I have been married for 17 years, we own our decent sized house and we are very much happy together Smile

Poppydm · 25/10/2016 12:21

Happy Birthday Dizzy
Urgh to the rude man! Some people just have no filter. Midwives have just gone. Just asked about my health/family health mainly. Two flags came up - my bmi is a bit low so got to have a consultant appointment - all routine apparently. Plus my mum has type 1 diabetes so I'm at increased risk of gestational diabetes so have to have a test at 24 weeks. Had the blood tests today for haemoglobin and infectious diseases and going to have the next ones at the scan for downs screening. Left me with lots of nice info to read! Makes it seem a lot more real! 8+1 today

oliversmummy26 · 25/10/2016 12:29

mrspage we have looked at the private NIPT tests too, about £400? We have decided to have all the NHS options first and see what our score is, last time i was 1:2500, but I'm 36 now, so higher risk than when I was 31..

Definitely going to breastfeed, DS was breastfed until I went to a hen do when he was 13 months! Grin I absolutely loved it, it was my favourite part of being a mummy and can't wait to do it again. Will be getting a pump though this time as I'd like my DH to be able to help out with a few feeds and get some bonding in..

Archer1257 · 25/10/2016 12:42

What do you mean by scores? I've noticed a lot of you mention percentages of miscarriage or another one was 1:2500 and you all sign off with a number 6+2 or something similar!

I feel like a right idiot but I'm totally lost!! Are you all seconday time mums who have the know-how?! Or do I need to buy a book!!!

Poppydm · 25/10/2016 12:45

Archer the 8+1 is how far on in pregnancy. I'm 8 weeks and one day. The ratio number is a score you get from a screening test you'll be offered for the likelihood of downs and other conditions. You should get a screening booklet soon from your midwife or gp that explains screening test options. This is my first baby so all new to me too Smile

MumofthreeandBean · 25/10/2016 12:48

Poppy my mum also type 1 diabetic so I too will have the glucose tolerance test - last time I was ok but still had a massive baby Shock

archer the numbers at the end are how pregnant we are - 8.6. 8 weeks 6 days xx

The 1:2500 or whatever is chance of downs etc (I think)

Chance of miscarriage - some people are using a site to help them feel better, the % goes down the further along you are

Huh xx

MumofthreeandBean · 25/10/2016 12:49

Huh??!! Sorry should be hope that helps xx

babyand · 25/10/2016 13:00

Booked an early scan for December 1st only for 12 days before my hospital one but I'd like to have it announced before wedding all going well

We doing get any screening here! None whatsoever.

Mommytobe2017 · 25/10/2016 13:05

Do any of you know the likelihood of me suffering from obstetric cholastasis like Mom did with my youngest sister?

We could have lost them both so I'm desperate for the next two weeks to go quickly so I can see the MW to ask, like, 1000 questions. Might be there a while lol Grin

KittyVonCatsington · 25/10/2016 13:12

Yep, second time Mum here Archer sorry!! The Downs and Edwards/Patau tests give you an odds statistic, dependent on blood tests, age etc. and done at your Dating scan (around 11-14 weeks) I'm 36 so my score was fairly low last time mostly due to age (which isn't good) but my DD was absolutely fine and not affected.

haveacupoftea · 25/10/2016 13:26

I am a bit annoyed today.. my friends are annoying me. When I said I had planned to go off at 34 weeks and wouldn't sure if i would return to work as will be looking for something part time they started telling me I would have to pay back SMP (wrong) and that I should work as long as possible because its hard to living off SMP...i'm not an idiot I do know we won't have much money but we will manage! It's my choice to go off when I want to!

Another friend (who doesn't have children) I was telling her something had been giving me heartburn and she goes oh baby's being a little shit already then... I was so cross! How dare she say that!

I do suspect though that my hormones might be to account for my reaction to these comments Confused but i'm just a bit taken aback. I do nothing but support them.

FlashingLights · 25/10/2016 13:37

babyand Really?! Where are you from?

I'm going to accept all routine screening tests & scans offered.
At my hospital, everyone is offered a vaginal scan alongside abdominal at the 11-13 and 20-23 week scans for cervical length. Also everyone is offered a routine growth/placental function scan at 32-36 weeks.

mommyto OC has been shown to have a genetic link but that doesn't mean you'll definitely get it. If you let your midwife know at booking, she can add extra bloods to your routine ones and speak to you about symptoms. They may not do extra bloods at booking as OC doesn't tend to develop until later pregnancy, usually 30+. It's not unheard of in earlier pregnancy but it's quite rare.

I'm off to buy some comfortable bras - I'm in agony. Definitely starting to feel more pregnant!

babyand · 25/10/2016 13:41

I'm from Ireland. My hospital do not even offer a 20week scan but I will get one due to my nephew been born with chd! We get a 12 eeek dating scan and a 35ish scan to see where baby is lying

NappingRabbit · 25/10/2016 13:46

Happy birthday Dizzy!

Donostia what a great idea to look back at previous antenatal threads. Think I may do the same when I have a moment.

Struggling today after a very disturbed night with DS. He has a cold and was up pretty much constantly from 12.30-3.30. Yawn. He's been sleeping through pretty consistently for ages now so it was a harsh reminder of how difficult sleepless nights are. How am I going to manage with two...?!

FlashingLights · 25/10/2016 13:49

babyand oh ok! Interesting! It's interesting to hear how different places do things.

Happy birthday dizzy Have a fab day! Extra cake for you to make up for the lack of celebratory champers Wink

peaceloveandbiscuits · 25/10/2016 14:08

Haveacupoftea if your employer offers an enhanced SMP package you may have to pay back some of it if you don't return to work. I was offered an extra six weeks of full pay, but I would have had to pay that back if I didn't return to work for at least 12 weeks after maternity leave. I declined it because I didn't know if I'd go back or not (I didn't).

OP posts:
haveacupoftea · 25/10/2016 14:49

peace my employer is stingy and offers no extras..i've told my friends this but they keep insisting i will have to pay back my SMP..i get the bare minimum!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 25/10/2016 14:51

Crack on, then!

OP posts:
haveacupoftea · 25/10/2016 15:00

I might even go back, i dont know yet. Think the pressure to make decisions already is getting to me...i've no idea what life like a child will be like Confused

peaceloveandbiscuits · 25/10/2016 15:06

Don't make any rash decisions about work until the baby's here and you've settled down a bit.

OP posts:
haveacupoftea · 25/10/2016 15:08

Yeah on reflection i think my hormones might be playing up a bit Halloween Hmm

I am stressing too because i'm having hardly any symptoms...as i get closer to my 12 week scan I am becoming convinced there will be nothing there when they scan me...I know this is unlikely Confused

Myfirstbornisacollie · 25/10/2016 15:12

Mrspage I had harmony test with DD nearly 4 years ago. This time I'll be having Nifty as it's cheaper and is basically the same. I'll be 38 when this one hopefully makes an appearance so risk higher. Will book in for 10 weeks
Feeling a bit better these last couple of days I've got some new medication metoclopramide and it's helping Smile

mrspage1985 · 25/10/2016 16:40

I think I'm going to have to do the tests - I think the worry will drive me nuts, I'm a googling freak who reads farrrr too much up on all the things that could go wrong!!
