kitty this has made me so happy!! Last pregnancy all I wanted was a dippy egg!!

SerialMover · 21/10/2016 12:11

Hi ladies, can I join you too please? I'm 32 and 4 + 6 weeks with DC3, EDD 24th June Smile

Feel fine so far apart from a few sharp twinges but I remember those from before! Not sure why but feel more nervous this time round, I think it's because this past year I've known so many people who have miscarried, where as before I didn't have a care in the world. This will be a long 7 weeks, but think I may book an early scan before then to see if all okay!

Goingmadttc · 21/10/2016 12:21

Welcome Monkey! I still feel like a rabbit in the headlights! Sure we will work it out soon! Good luck with the scan Moose! Sure all will be good.

Ladies, what have you heard about flying? I might need to fly to Poland and back fro work in a couple of weeks (when I'm 8 or 9 weeks). Do you think it is safe or does it increase risk of miscarriage?

6+6

Goingmadttc · 21/10/2016 12:22

Welcome Serial too! Sorry just saw you had joined. I feel nervous too as know a lot of scary stories but trying to think of my friends with the good stories 😊

babyand · 21/10/2016 12:26

Goingmad I was advised that flying in the first trimester is strongly not recommended and that the biggest risk is flying between 7-11 weeks . It can cause miscarriage or birth defects. I'm not trying to scare you but just passing on info.

Goingmadttc · 21/10/2016 12:28

Really? Oh goodness! So glad you told me this! I might have to speak to work then and say I don't think I can fly...

Goingmadttc · 21/10/2016 12:29

Babyand where did you hear this? So scary!

babyand · 21/10/2016 12:32

It was my doctor that told me that it's not advised and I work in an airport so asked some flight attendant friends and they told me about the 7-11 weeks. I think if you don't HAVE to then don't risk it. A friend of a friend has a syndrome which causes his eye to turn in completely when tired and doctors said it can be caused by flying when in first trimester. Now I'm not sure if there is a link between frequent flying not

babyand · 21/10/2016 12:32

That was meant to be a friend of a friends baby

babyand · 21/10/2016 12:34

From what I have seen, the greatest risk appears to be between 7-11 weeks gestation. This is when your baby is going through a growth spurt and there is an enormous amount of development happening, which means your cardiovascular system is being placed under greater pressure to circulate oxygen and nutrient rich blood to the placenta.

Found this on google when I looked into the 7-11 there^

LittleLight42 · 21/10/2016 12:35

Thank you so much ladies! I will definitely mention it on my appointment ...just got it booked for 23rd of Nov :))

MundayCakes85 · 21/10/2016 12:40

Is that why i'm so short of breath? 7+3 today, and feel like I've been hurrying everywhere!!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 21/10/2016 13:13

Flying before third trimester is totally safe. The risk of miscarriage is the same whether you're flying or not. There is no evidence that flying causes birth defects.
It's still safe in the third trimester, but you might not be insured, and will probably need a doctors' note.

Afternoon all, and welcome to all the new pregnant mummys!

I am feeling very period like today and my lower back is killing me Confused anyone else having these symptoms?

8+0

peaceloveandbiscuits · 21/10/2016 13:20

Do you not think pregnant women would be banned from flying if it really caused birth defects and miscarriage??

I'm only passing on the advice I was given

catlady15 · 21/10/2016 13:30

I am the same Monkey, got positive last night and also feeling like I should be doing something, but I think I need the weekend for it all to sink in first. I've only told one friend and she said not to tell anyone in case it doesn't work out Confused

catlady15 · 21/10/2016 13:33

I just saw the midwife this morning as I have an 8 hour flight to Kenya end of November and she said there is nothing to worry about flying.

haveacupoftea · 21/10/2016 13:33

mommytobe2017 I have also been feeling bad about eating healthy so quite glad everyone here is living off pringles Grin

catlady15 · 21/10/2016 13:33

She said just make sure you get up and walk around often as your blood is thicker when you're pregnant

haveacupoftea · 21/10/2016 13:51

catlady I told everyone pretty much straight away lol. It's your personal choice. I am the kind of person who would talk about it if it didn't work out anyway but I know most people don't like to do that.

Donostia · 21/10/2016 14:08

Goingmadttc speak to your doctor about it. There was a flight attendant on my last bus who was grounded as soon as she knew but she said it is more to do with extended periods of exposure to "cosmic radiation" and that normal flying, even business travellers going every week are ok.

I flew a lot last time, but horribly, after DS was born I developed quite a bad phobia of flying... Beware!! It is apparently a frequent phobia triggered by having a baby. It is really damaging to me as I live in Spain and my family and lots of friends live in England.

DH has got a sickness bug and I'm really worried about catching it and it causing miscarriage... tell me I'm being paranoid please!!

Goingmadttc · 21/10/2016 14:57

Thanks ladies for all of our advice. I am going to ring the fertility consultant I've been seeing and see what he says, don't want to take any risks. He's out til weds but I will let u know what he says x

Mooseville · 21/10/2016 15:43

The scan went really well! Was so reassuring to see the little flickering heartbeat and that it's all where it's supposed to be!

The lady was really good, pointing out the areas that would develop into arms and legs and the head. Definitely feels more real and has helped me relax about not feeling too sick!

As for the flying, I guess everything we do now carries a small risk, it's just trying to be sensible and continuing with life and not worrying too much?! Although that's easier saying than doing! I personally would probably still go as the evidence doesnt seem to scream a huge risk?!

bluesky it kicked in for me at 5+2 but I've only actually been sick 4 or 5 times in 2 weeks, it's more the feeling sick. And not everyone gets it so hope you're a lucky one!

Welcome littlelight I'm bristol too! There are 5 or 6 of us now, in sure at least 2 of us must have to cross paths irl at some point! I'm interested in hypnobirthing too after hearing some positive stories so will let you know if I come across anything good.

Welcome monkey

going I've personally heard that there is no risk from flying in first trimester so should be fine. What does nhs say? I'm sure the only risk is the increased risk of dvt on long flights but Poland should be fine.

Great news moose!
