Hi everyone, new thread...apologies for sorry attempt at poetry

Yep, go for it on the cot front and anything else big and essential like that, and of course your hospital bag must be prepared for that! You have loads of stuff to get, unlike us lot that are eyeing the catalogues! Like Lilkel says, delivery etc, bedding, blah, blah. Apart from not moving from the loo you'll be wanting to stock up on sleep, food, having the house straight....blah, blah... etc

Lilkel would love to meet up but London a bit far (and scary) for me! If there was anywhere that was half way for everyone possibly? But that probably doesn't exsist does it? Are you down south H&A? And are Marylou and DaisyBump north(ish)?

Seansgirl · 20/02/2007 13:55

Sorry Marylou, x posted and got it wrong prg hormones for you!

notsolilKel · 20/02/2007 13:56

and general "shame" emoticon!! Of course I'm only here to help.....

Oh and birth, schmirth, don't worry about it. Just take all the drugs you can lay your hands upon and bask in the glory of new mumhood afterwards. I seriously still get a thrill out of my DS' teeny weeny little toes when I get him dressed in the morning. Can I get an "awwwww".... ah mushy me.

Time for a second lunch methinks. And Grazia. (another embarrassing habit).

Anyone else in London want to do a meetup, maybe late April???

Seansgirl · 20/02/2007 14:00

Couldn't agree more, after all your LO has got to come out somehow! And at that point you'll be saying 'sooner rather than later'...

marylou23 · 20/02/2007 14:04

Am reading Grazia as we speak. The good news is that voluminous dresses are in for Spring. Otherwise known as 'hide a multitude of sins' dresses. Stock up now...

marylou23 · 20/02/2007 14:09

ps, thanks Seansgirl. Sadly, can't seem to find 'sleep' on any of the websites I've been ogling... DH says he needs some too - apparently I've started snoring and humphing every time I roll over

Seansgirl · 20/02/2007 14:14

humping.... must be the nighttime version of oof! perhaps? You're not alone, DH has complained as I now have three pillows one for my head, one for my knees and one for my bump..... You can just imagine the fuss they would make it was them..... but thats another thread!

justbeme · 20/02/2007 14:20

Hi there - Just a thought, but for the 1st 12 weeks or so Im going to have my LO sleeping in a moses basket, so I suppose theres no massive rush to buy a cot (although I have been looking). Its the buggy issue thats getting me!
p.s Is any one else in Hertfordshire?

Seansgirl · 20/02/2007 14:22

just thinking Grazia doesn't have calories so must be good right? That is unless you have really weird cravings and feel the need to chomp a few pages . No, I'm getting silly now must go and do ironing..

auntymandy · 20/02/2007 14:25

hi all. I have finally got my booking in appointment at the hospital!!
No joke!!! I am 21+3 now and its for next Monday. Somehow I dont think the dating scan will be that accurate!!!

Seansgirl · 20/02/2007 14:31

Hi Aunty Mandy, good to hear from you! Glad its going well!

Justbeme, the only thing I would say is if for some reason you or LO doesn't get on with moses basket then you won't feel like shopping or waiting for the delivery of a cot, you and Lo will be desperate for the sleep.

Cocobear · 20/02/2007 14:34

We didn't buy a cot for DS until after he was born as he was in a Moses basket for the first two months. There's no harm in buying it now, though, if you've got the space to have it (or its self-assembly box) sitting around unused for a bit.

Justbeme, Tell us your buggy woes. Have you got any frontrunners?

hollyandalice · 20/02/2007 15:11

Hi all, had a lovely shopping day!! Went to Guildford and went to Daisy & Tom, big mistake!! Didn't buy anything, but now I want everything in there! If anyone wants to buy a Phil & Teds they are on special offer- £239.99, which is the cheapest I've seen so far. Also lilkel if you were still looking at them they have the Baby Bjorn sitter in a camel beige colour, looked a bit more cosy than black! All their baby clothes are soooo classy and cute, but who spends £40 on a pair of newborn dungarees? Some people clearly have money to burn!

A meet up in London sounds cool, I live in Southampton, but it's not too much hassle to catch a train, only 50 mins!

marylou23 · 20/02/2007 15:17

Ooh, very nice. Agree totally on the Daisy and Tom thing - had to drag myself out (and out of the glider chair) and was v. pleased I'd made the decision to leave credit card at home... (well, kind of pleased )
Welcome back AuntyMandy and hope scan goes well - if not accurately dates-wise!

justbeme · 20/02/2007 15:18

I want something
a) not too heavy
b) compact fold
c) rear facing at 1st
d) dont like clip on car seats/but carrycots seem a waste
e) not too expensive!!
Am I asking too much?

notsolilKel · 20/02/2007 15:45

Holly I shall curse your name for the next few hours for finding me a non-black Bjorn sitter - am actually quite touched that you think of me whilst in mid-shop. ((HUGS)). Will def check it out.

Justmebe, my moses basket lasted exactly 7 weeks for my DS (he of thrashing limbs in the night). I'd defo get the cot soon and relax knowing it's ready in case you need it. But then I hate rushing and love shopping. Duh.

AuntyM at the lateness of your booking in!! Let us know how it goes!

£40 dungarees - ha ha ha - not a chance in hell. Though it's worth buying really well made trousers for when they're 9mo-18mo (in reality a size 12-18mo). All that crawling tends to wear on the fabric round the knees and badly made ones fall off the bum quite easily...

notsolilKel · 20/02/2007 16:08

£60 later. I've done it. I've caved in and bought a bouncer which will coordinate with the carpet on my lounge floor (cringe)...but it's practical I keep telling myself...

OP posts:
marylou23 · 20/02/2007 16:33

And the baby will thank you for co-ordinating it with the room. These things matter when you're a few days old (or so I told my DH when I was trying to justify buying a lamp shade from Cath Kidston to match the circus elephant blinds...)

notsolilKel · 20/02/2007 16:50

har har har......ROFL.....

OP posts:
hollyandalice · 20/02/2007 21:23

Which bouncer did you get lilkel? I'm assuming it wasn't the Toys R Us one, unless your carpet is baby pink!!

I have officially turned into a buggy stalker! I keep talking to other mums about their pushchairs and staring at people as they walk by. It's not a fun pastime! Have def decided on a Phil and Teds now. Gonna sell both my pushchairs (esp sad to see zapp go) and buy one. Don't really need zapp any more as dp gets a bigger car with his new job, but I love it and it's pink! Let's hope Daisy & Tom don't change their offer before I've sold them!

doggus · 20/02/2007 22:02

This thread is bad for my financial and physical health - I am now absolutely desperate for a bar of Milka and a glider chair.

I live in Dorset but if I am free I will come to London for a meet, no problem.

Daisybump · 21/02/2007 08:51

Phew

Just spent 230 mins catching up from my last poast last Wednesday...lots I could add but it would take ages....just had a well earned few days off with DS during school hols, and shame to say it, sat down after a spot of lunch last Thursday and next thing I knew DS was shaking me and saying 'mum wake up your phone is ringing'...quick look at the clock, I'd been out cold for 45 minutes Social services would have a field day!! Thankfully DS is of an age where he can keep himself occupied, but horror of horrors if he'd gone out to play and I woke up and he was gone!! So, making sure I leave my knitting pins on the chair when I sit down from now on!
Any tips on stopping rolling onto back at night...when I wake up iin the morning I'm usuallu on my back and in so much pain that it takes me 10 minutes to move into a more comfy position or hoist myself out of bed. als went for an hours walk through the woods on Saturday and slept all day Sunday. Feel like an old woman
For those of you struggling to justify £600 for the bugaboo set up, I bought a Maui system by Mothercare...with carry cot, rucksac, cosytoes and half price car seat for £350...it looks like a bugaboo with the two wee wheels at the front, and the pushchair seat can be forward or rear facing too. Bargain I thought and its red and orange and very bright and cheery...OK it doesn't look quite as stylish as a bugaboo, but sense prevailed (that is...DH was in my ear saying "How much?!!!!")

hollyandalice · 21/02/2007 09:11

Oh my god I'm obssessed with buggies!!! I kept waking up in the night and all I could think about was sodding pushchairs, I was dreaming about them and everything! I'm so sad and seriously deranged!

Taffindra · 21/02/2007 10:19

I'm Essex, so v.close to Hertforshire... actually spend a lot of time at a v.good soft play in HOddesdon for those of you with another and local.... If we ever manage to organise a meet up in London, I'd be up for it.
Bumped into another mother at nursery this morning who I haven't seen for a while, and she said 'oh, so not long now is it??? Yes, its bloody ages, three sodding months! Our builder helpfully commented that I would probably be unable to walk by the end. Why do people take such great delight in telling you how enormous you are when you're pregnant? Its not acceptable to tell a non-pregnant woman that she's the size of a bus, so why is it OK to say it too me? It still stings!

Cocobear · 21/02/2007 10:57

No one has found Justbeme a buggy. C'mon shoppers.

I'm hopeless at buggies. I like them small and simple - had a Maclaren XT last time and thought it utterly wonderful. Light, comfy to push, easy to fold, never a problem... it was everything I needed. Nearly three years and 10 long-haul flights later, BA finally put the boot in. Poor thing came off the plane looking like they'd run it over with the luggage trolley.

That's tip for anyone parting with 600 pounds for a Bugaboo - don't take it on a plane!
