Justbeme, I've been inspired on your behalf. After a full days' worth of buggy ogling in town, I've decided that what you need is a Quinny Buzz. You said:
a) not too heavy
b) compact fold
c) rear facing at 1st
d) dont like clip on car seats/but carrycots seem a waste
e) not too expensive

I think it's pretty good. Not sure I understand your point d) - do you want a carrycot or clip on carseat? The thing is, the Quinny accepts the MaxiCosi seat which is very good seat, and bubs then faces you in that arrangement. It's not cheap (rrp £330) but on Ebay (oooh lovely ebay) you can get 'em for way less...go shopping! .

The bouncer I got is the BabyBjorn sitter, in Sand colour. Found it at Baby Assistant Limited. Yet another good site. GAHHH.

Just had the fright of my life when I realised my baby could be here on 11 May if it arrives when DS did (37 wks). YIKES!!

H&A maybe you have a home for your Buzz in Justbeme? Oh God now I'm buggy matchmaker...

I love Maclaren XTs too. Shame they don't do P&T style or I'd get one now. Which reminds me, Jusbeme, if you think you might have another baby sometime in the next 2 years, it's worth giving up rear-facing baby for the savings you get on P&T - really wish I'd bought one for DS1 instead of single-only buggy which is now useless...grrrr

Talking of Maclarens...
I'm so annoyed, I found my holy grail of a lightweight one-handed-folding buggy to suplement my trusty Jane, very good discount on Kiddicare, only to discover they don't take international credit cards.
I am still sulking

Daisybump · 21/02/2007 13:46

Until I ordered my pram, I was following people around shopping centres trying to find out what make theirs were...got some very odd looks I can tell you
I've still got DS McLaren Techno XT which is fab and will be keeping that in the boot of my car as the one we've bought will take up too much room in mine. Need (not according to DH) to find a co-ordinating cosytoes for it though as I lost mine in the three house moves I've done since DS was little. Anyone know where to buy McLaren accessories?

A friend of mine stated out with a Quinny but ended up taking it back as she found the folding mechanism quite tricky and couldn't do it one handed! Mind you it may have been a zap and not a buzz....?

Just been on the pg after mc thread and got some news of Taichimum.....she's just had a scan at 7+1 and saw a heartbeat so all looking very positive for her

Been getting some very odd pains around the pubic bone area and am really worried about SPD....how does it start and should I go and get it checked out? Any advice out there?

hollyandalice · 21/02/2007 14:00

I did it, I bought a Phil and Teds!! Complete bargain £300 for complete double in charcoal (£70 less than Mothercare)! A shop near me matched the Daisy and Tom price. My mum paid and I'm gonna give her the money once I've sold my buggies. It's really lovely and dd won't leave it alone, she has climbed in the shopping basket and had a lie down in the baby part. She is now having her nap in the cardboard box it came in! It's all sparkly and new, I don't want to get it dirty! Now I have to buy a raincover, a newborn cocoon and a car seat to go in it (oh and the car seat adaptors!).

Justbeme, I would do what Lilkel suggested and buy a P&T single, then you've got a ready made double if you have another in a couple of years. Or the Quinny Buzz. It's a lovely pushchair and I love my Zapp. If I were to buy a single now, I'd get a Buzz.

I'm really excited, I'm gonna take my new present out for a walk in a min.

i only found this website yesterday and can't believe i have been missing out on so much. currently pg with my 3rd little angel due on 4/6/07 so hoping to gatescrash/join this little club - seems like a friendly wee place to be!! i have already learned so much stuff from reading threads and realise that I really can ask ANYTHING!! and get some sort of answer - very intereting.... so nice to meet you all and i will be checking in regularly from now on. right now i'm off to measure my bump with toilet roll - definately an idea to mention to my midwife at next antinatal!!!

sneeple · 21/02/2007 15:23

Hi all,

My name is Jo and I too am new to MN but glad to have found you all

According to midwife I am due on the 31st May but I know my real due date is 5th June... so thought this thread would be best

So glad to read I am not the only one with perfect buggy obssession at the moment! Have decided (I think ;) to get the Maclaren XLR with the Recaro car seat. I don't drive so wanted something light and easily foldable, but my DP does and we have a car so it makes sense as we'll need a car seat anyway. Also wanted the baby facing me at the start at least! I just wish we'd found out the sex of the baby at my 21 week scan so I could get the brown/pink version if it was a girl ;)

Does anyone have a good tip for sourcing a loooooong cardigan that I could wear instead of a coat? I feel like I have looked everywhere and can't find anything!(only thing in vaguely the right direction was grey cardi from H+M Mama but it looked dreadful. My mum was with me and told me how awful it looked and made me feel like I was 14 again ;) I have a long Bench fleece coat that I used to live in but it just doesn't do up anymore (and if it did I would look like a dreadful mishapen sausage ;) and am desperate for something instead of my huge parka in this mild weather... I have birthday money left over to spend so am happy to splash out if that's what it takes. Anything to not be carrying my huge coat around just in case I need it!

Sorry for long coat based post, but you all seem to know all these good sites and I have no idea!

x

Welcome Derlor, the more the merrier here.

notsolilKel · 21/02/2007 15:33

Welcome Derlor and Sneeple! Glad to have you join us and hope you don't get put off by our (ok, my) shopping addictions and decorating paranoia episodes We're a friendly bunch. Ask away...

Daisybump thx for the Taichimum update. Must go crash there and congrat her on the good news. I've got a grey pompom cosytoes for my mclaren which has served us brilliantly - unsurprisingly it took me a month to decide which one to get link here

As for SPD, I started to notice it around this time with my first pg and I'd def see your GP or MW about it sooner rather than later and ask for a referal to a pysio. By the time I got off my achey arse and got a pysio appt, I could only get a spot at 38.5 wks pg and DS arrived at 37 (!). It was especially bad for me when straddling to get in/out of the car.

Sneeple will keep eyes open for desired cardigan. Any sort of material/colour in mind?

Holly congrats on your fab P&T purchase! It sounds so nice! I'm holding out till end of month as we'll want the 2007 model w/ adjustable handlebars and front seat. Getting itchy though, and desp for my new buggy!!! (didn't I used to be this way about new shoes? )

H&A and Daisybump, am so jealous! Buggies sound fab. Must find way of moving DH out of his study (funnily enough, not a priority for him...) so I can start to buy stuff without cluttering up already-cluttered hallway. Met a friend for lunch today who told me I was tiny and barely showing (she had two BIG babies). THis is after I was stared at for being so big on Sat. I tell you, you can't win...

marylou23 · 21/02/2007 15:37

Sorry, hadn't refreshed before I posted - welcome Sneeple and Derlor - you're certainly on the right forum for shopping advice! And every other advice imaginable, too. Just say good bye to getting anything else done, that's all I can say

sneeple · 21/02/2007 15:46

thanks Notsolilkel Am not really fussy about the cardi, but fleece would be great (I know still too attached to Bench coat ;)

Did you all see the pics of the unfeasibly tiny baby the other day? I have a scan pic of my baby's feet at that stage and it's just amazing to think about!

sneeple · 21/02/2007 15:50

Hi Marylou,

say good bye to getting anything else done

am realising this now, I do volunteer research for a campaign group (as well as working part time for a charity) and really keep meaning to get going today... and now it's quarter to 4 and well the work day is drawing to a close... ;)

Nevermind, I barely slept last night and puked twice this morning so I have an excuse for being slack today I think ;)

sneeple · 21/02/2007 15:56

sorry, hopefully this link to the scan pic of feet will work!

sputnik · 21/02/2007 16:07

Sneeple, you are not alone. I have had a cold for the last 10 days, woke last night at 3am with hamsters nesting in my sinuses, indigestion, and bump doing the locomotion at the all night disco. Got back to sleep around 7 for a while - was lucky as DD is also a wreck and slept too.
Am I in a good mood today .

Bad time of year to be looking for long cardis really, I'm wearing a knitted cape/cloak/shawl type thing, which is versatile as you can wear a jacket underneath when it's colder. Can't help you with sourcing though, got mine at my local hippie/ethno shop.

trace2 · 21/02/2007 16:09

welcome nebies even though i feel new myself as when i come on it takes ages to catch up... lol

great scan pic of feet, i have bought myself a maclean techno of here came today its great.

derlor · 21/02/2007 16:09

Sneeple, i am a HUGE lover of long cardi's, so much so that i actually don't even own a coat!!! THE best place to pick one up is e-bay search for monsoon long coat or cardigan. they cost approx £80 in shop but you can usually pick one up on ebay for £40 or less if lucky - i got one of mine (i've got 6 all in different colours!!) for £15 brand new - remember to add on cost of postage which varies a lot and tip for the future.... buy these in the summer and you'll get one for much less. hope this helps and have fun shopping.

justbeme · 21/02/2007 16:10

Thanks very much Notsolilkel for your Buggy sourcing!! Ive got to dash to make the T now as Ive got work at 1800, but the Quinny Buzz does look nice - I shall do some more investigating!!

sputnik · 21/02/2007 16:12

If you're really loaded how about this

notsolilKel · 21/02/2007 16:22

such good tips - we're a fab bunch . Ohh and Isabella Oliver. Was actually lying in bed thinking about getting some of those cami tops (sooo sick of my pg bras). I know, I know. I should be thinking of something else entirely whilst in bed. poor DH.

sneeple · 21/02/2007 16:23

sputnik, I hope you feel better soon I had a cold and ear infection a few weeks back and it was so awful not being able to dose up on sudafed and nightnurse or even snort olbas oil (I have to admit I did do that a bit though ;) Thanks for the link to the pricey cardi, I am tempted to go for it, I have £150 from my mum for my birthday and xmas of which £70 is going to go on a crib so... some left over for me! ;)

Derlor thanks for the Monsoon tip - do they do maternity or just genorously cut? Will definitely have a look!

Trace2, I keep eyeing up people's buggies and noting all the Technos I see ;)

trace2 · 21/02/2007 16:27

trace2 · 21/02/2007 16:29

sneeple sorry just read you didnt find out at 21 week scan

sneeple · 21/02/2007 16:35
