Hi everyone, new thread...apologies for sorry attempt at poetry

Seansgirl · 16/02/2007 17:11

Thanks H&A, she is 4 in April, apparently they can go from 3! How cute is that! am going to take first day pic tomorrow morning! But I know what you mean a bout those over pushy mothers, God help me if I get to that stage! (shudder!)

Cath bag is as says on label " Luggage bag, new rose bloom, khaki" Having to wrestle it off DD at moment as she thinks its so girly its for her to load with barbies, etc to drag to ballet!

Claire, I don't know on the weight, as I haven't looked for about 3-4 weeks and it was 12lbs then and I am three weeks behind you. honestly I wouldn't worry too much as long as you're being sensible etc. and not going too mad on the indulgences then you'll be sure to loose it afterwards. No idea how much I put on last time stopped looking after a while. I weighed myself about 8 weeks after the birth and wasn't a lot different than pre-prg! I'm sure most of us if not now will be gaining more than we want to!

PizPizPiz · 16/02/2007 17:13

Claire, I wouldn't worry. I put on 16kg for dd1 and lost it all in 3 months thanks to breastfeeding. This time around, I've 'only' put on 5kg and I'm 22 weeks.

hollyandalice · 16/02/2007 17:31

Wow seansgirl, it's really pretty!!! Your dbs must love you loads!! Don't cry too much when your dd goes to her lesson, I'm welling up for you! If you can put her pic on your profile, I'm sure it'll be really cute!!

I'm sure I've put on about 137lbs so far! Feeling like some sort of whale! Also starting to have problems walking any distance due to hip pain. Walked round the block yesterday with dd and was feeling the pain all day and it's only going to get worse. Does anyone else get this?

notsolilKel · 16/02/2007 17:34

Um, I've put on 14 lb so far but I swear it's all in my arse......

Love the nappy bag from Cath. Saw a woman with it on her buggy yesterday. I was driving, she was pushing buggy on the street. Does anyone else do this, stare at all the buggies you pass (whilst driving) trying to see what you like and not? Well I was so impressed with how nice this bag looked, I just know I wasn't paying enough attention to the road...

doggus · 16/02/2007 18:00

Thank you everyone for the positive vote on Cath's cowboy wallpaper...I am gonna order it and the nappy bag to cheer myself up. I am really missing clothes shopping; maternity stuff is just not the same.

H&A - I'm not getting hip pain but me back is playing up now I am bigger. I found myself doing that pregnant thing in Sainsbury's where you stand, legs akimbo with your hand in the small of your back, groaning, classy lady I am.

Notsolikel - I am having buggy envy and keep getting dirty looks from neurotic mothers who obviously think I am a baby napper. I want one of those Stokke ones - have you seen them, they are unique - www.xplory.com/.

marylou23 · 16/02/2007 18:16

Doggus, my sister has a Stoke and she loves it. I have to say it's very cool and perfect for cafes etc as baby is at your height so can really join in. Looks cool, too. Also faces you when you walk even when baby is a bit older which I really like. Am totaly with you Lilkel on staring at buggies in the street. Luckily I'm generally on foot, but still... Personal favourite at the moment is bugaboo, and yes, I know everyone has them and they're overpriced yadayadayada, but it's so nice! And it faces inwards, and it's sturdy but not too big, and it's got the carrycot that you can bring in with you... DH thinks I've turned into crazy mad woman as I point at them in the street and demand his opinion. He's like 'really? We really need a buggy? You can't just carry the baby in your arms?'
In terms of weight gain, I've put on about a stone I think, at least I had about a week ago; probably more now (I'm 22 weeks +4). But I think weight gain really happens at different stages - my bump, for instance, has really grown this week. I woudln't worry at all - a friend put on 3 stone when she was pregnant and lost it all. Your body just puts on fat where it needs it. And babies like chocolate. It's good for them. Right?!

claire74 · 16/02/2007 18:25

Thanks for all your kind words, although looks like i've put on alot more than you guys, oops. Think I'm going to stop being so lazy and begin walking more.

bumperlicious · 16/02/2007 18:47

My name's bumperlicious and I am a buggy stalker...

bumperlicious · 16/02/2007 18:49

H&A, by the way I've have been having hip pain, pretty much since the beginning. Apparently it's my sacra-iliac joint (or something like that). It stops me doing a lot of exercise too. Bit worried that it's only going to get worse as I get bigger. No tips I'm afraid though, but would appreciate any from anyone else!

marylou23 · 16/02/2007 19:00

Okay, haven't had hip pain when pregnant, but I used to get it really badly when I walked long distances and when I went to the physio, she said it was because my back was too arched. I did exercises and now do Pilates religiously and it's completely gone. Anyway, i know that pregnancy encourages you to arch your back, so it could be the same thing... If so, what you want to do is try and consciously stop yourself from pushing your arse out and tits up; instead, try and keep a neutral pelvis when you walk (it means using hte stomach muscles at the very base of your tummy, if that makes sense?). It also strengthens your obliques which can only be a good thing... Good exercise is also doing hip rolls (a bit like using a hoola hoop but without the hoola hoop). Frees up the lower back a bit - this is where it's easy to carry all the tension from the growing bump.
Sorry if I sound like some mad pilates freak, but it's really worked for me.

notsolilKel · 16/02/2007 19:25

Marylou, you defo do sound like a mad pilates freak . I mean that in the nicest way possible of course (actually just full of as I should still be doing pilates for my long-forgotten pelvic floor...).

Have you read the "precious first born" thread yet? Absolutely hysterically funny. It's doubtless people like me ogling other buggies that make all these new mums think their darlings are about to be baby-napped and do ridiculous things like bring their baby into the loo with them even when at home (wait, I did that...)!!

As for chocolate, well, yes, it's brill for the baby. Somewhere I found a study that showed babies of mums who ate choc when pg were overall happier and well-adjusted. As if we need more excuses to get through a bag of mini eggs each afternoon!! My DS is very happy though!!

Right off to change into bumplicious jumper from NeuLook and meet my un-pg mum friends for a night out. I'll be the one at the table resembling a fat (but trendily dressed) cow!!

hollyandalice · 16/02/2007 19:28

Thanks for the tips Marylou! I do have a really arched back and loose ligaments. It comes in useful for party tricks (doing the splits, legs behind my head type things ), but now you mention it that's prob what's causing the hip pain! I'll try and pull my bum in when I walk and see if this helps!

I'm a bit obsessed with buggies too. I want to sell my M&P travel system and my Zapp and buy 2 new buggies, a lighter weight travel system and a double. Have put my M&P in the paper this week so hopefully it'll go, then I can go shopping!! Maybe I'll get one of these . I really like it!!

doggus · 16/02/2007 21:23

LOL Marylou, your dh sounds like mine - he thinks all we need is a sling....thank you for telling me re your sil's Stokke, I think I am going to get one, sod it. I will justify it as it apparently keeps the baby out of traffic fumes

Bumper and H&A - the spitting cat yoga position is your friend, google it, but it's basically on all fours (looking very unattractive especially when you do it nude in the morning like me), tilting your pelvis up and down. I go to a physio every couple of weeks and he helps loosen the sacro-iliac by lying me on my side and jiggling me. he then gets a big massager thing and presses it on that joint to end the session (I make him laugh by requesting 'the vibrator'). Marylou is right - Pilates is supposed to be the best thing but I don't have a class near me.

doggus · 16/02/2007 21:25

I would like to confess that today I have eaten a whole tube of Cadbury's Mini Eggs, and a creme egg. And the day is far from over. It's what my body is TELLING me to eat

NattyThomasandBump · 17/02/2007 18:28

well hellloooo all! sorry been away, just so busy!

ive been getting hip pain too, was wondering if having two preg so close togther may have weakened my joints and ligaments perhaps?
is anyone else getting stiches? in my left side all day ive been getting stitch it is most annoying as i cant walk anywhere!
have also found out i am anemic, and am taking iron 3 times a day, i must say feeling an improvemnt already only 3 tablets in!

baby has reached stage where you can SEE which part is poking me from the outside. DH thinks its gross but loves it at the same time! we have settled on the name ellen, and have been calling her that since the scan 3 weeks ago lol.

hospital have told me i cant have a waterbirth as i have had a previous c-section, how rude! been told i can use it for pain relief tho, will just refuse to move once in labour, and i dont think anyone will argue. i am apparently quite scary in the middle of a contraction

well love to all, speak soon have a great weekend

catkin555 · 18/02/2007 09:38

Hi all!

Having 'lurked' for ages without actually posting, I thought I should let you all know what a terrible influence you're having on me!!

Cath Kidston had never entered my mind but I am now OBSESSED with the idea of having little star wallpaper in the nursery. On the bright side, the nursery is so bloody tiny that it will probably only take one roll! There, I have convinced myself now-Might just get it and put it up when DH is at work this week!

Seriously though, this thread is fantastic and has entertained and informed me on a regular basis! I am going to make an effort to actually join in the conversation more instead of just 'eavesdropping' so to speak!

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend. xx

marylou23 · 18/02/2007 17:07

Oof. All I have done all weekend is eat and my poor stomach doesn't quite know what's hit it. Actually, it knows full well what's hitting it, kicking it and generally disco dancing in it, but that doesn't make it any easier to digest several large meals and slices of chocolate cake . Hey ho.
I have a new obsession, by the way: the Glider Chair. Has anyone got/seen one? I was in Daisy and Tom just having a look around and I saw this chair sitting there. Wasn't interested in it, just thought I woudln't mind a quick sit down. Oh my God. It doesn't look like much, but it was most comfortable thing I've ever sat on. It moves forward and back in a kind of rocking movement and is padded and like no other chair I've ever sat on. The footstall glides too. Now I can't think how I'd breastfeed without it. Or watch telly. Or, you know, do anything. DH thinks I've completley lost the plot; I think he might be right. Maybe it's chocolate cake poisoning?

notsolilKel · 18/02/2007 18:04

Uh Oh Marylou you've gone and done it now...I was bitten by the Glider Chair Bug last pg (some 18mo ago) and I did not rest until I had one! DH was positively sick of me going on about them. I finally ordered one off Ebay trying to save a few quid. BIG mistake. Silly thing arrived with broken piece and was far too narrow for actual humans to fit into (and I'm not that big!!) So naturally the co on Ebay wouldn't refund the money and we had to just pitch it. And I went out and bought a proper one from John Lewis. My DH was seriously livid. But even he, serious doubter that he was, has admitted (out loud) that it really is a very nice chair and it makes those ENDLESS nighttime / early morning feeds 'almost' a pleasure. The little gliding footstool is grand, too. Ours is blue which I'm glad about in the end b/c babies tend to sick up quite a lot...all I can say is, I'm sorry but you'll be haunted till you get one now!!

Welcome Cat - glad to see you out of hiding

Also am eating for England (France, Germany, USA, etc etc) -- but feeling better for it. I mean, the baby needs it!!

hollyandalice · 18/02/2007 19:28

Hi Catkin! Blame Lilkel for the Cath Kidston obsession, she started it (oh then we all encouraged each other, leading to much spending of cash!!)!!!

I would love a glider chair, I always look at them on Kiddicare (really cheap) and sit on them in John Lewis! Alas I have no room for one ! Found another Cath Kidston Strawberry changing bag on ebay, only on at £10 at the mo, so gonna watch it with beady eyes! Hopefully this time next week I should be the proud owner of the most beautiful bag in the whole universe! Hope everyone had a good weekend xx

Seansgirl · 19/02/2007 08:19

Its very comforting to hear that everyone else seems to be making the most of being prg and raiding the cupboard, fridge, biscuit tin, the shop...and anywhere else that holds the lure of lovely food.
One thing I have not stuffed myself with is salad. The thought of salad at the moment turns me right off, its too cold for a start and secondly its too healthy! Its is all a bit disconcerting really all this food I would not normally eat, as I usually am trying to either loose weight, eat healthily or maintain my weight and would not normally buy half the stuff i have been buying. But having said that the major change in my diet is alcohol, so theres loads of calories in that right so that must balance out right? Wishful thinking I think! Talking of alcohol, I really missed it in the beginning I guess I went a bit cold turkey either that or it was cos everyone else was thrashing it down in aid of xmas! But now, its not bothering me much but I suppose I am avoiding as many potential booozey sessions as possible as it may be too tempting!

Had a good weekend, DD really enjoyed her ballet lesson and wants to go back (she can trial it for four weeks before commiting). The only thing she was unhappy about was that she din't have any ballet shoes, as the instuctor said don't get any unless you are sure bare feet are fine. So looks like I will buying some this week. Will definately take pic and try and post as battery in camera ran out on sat grrrrr... DHs fault of course!! I have of course demanded a new camera in prg fuelled out rage!!

My Cath catalogue has only just arrived and have seen many lovely things in it (sigh) not to mention a lovely vanity case to go with my new bag - well it is an essential accessorie don't you think?

Catkins, glad you have 'come out' to join in our mad hormone induced ramblings, we look forward to hearing on any subject you feel like loading off on us!

Seansgirl · 19/02/2007 08:22

Oh yes and for posting Catkin you might have noticed that of the more random and off the wall the better! (Speaking about myeslf of course!

Cocobear · 19/02/2007 11:25

I think I love this bag. Good, or too \link{http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OIOI-HOBO-CHANGING-BAG-DESERT-PINK-BRAND-NEW_W0QQitemZ120087758540QQihZ002QQcategoryZ15558QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?

Cocobear · 19/02/2007 11:26

OK, trying again

Seansgirl · 19/02/2007 12:04

Hi Cocobear. I love the OIOI bags, think it looks very pratical. Personally pattern isn't my cup of tea, but if its yours I'd go for it of you can get it for a good price!

mytwocents · 19/02/2007 12:56

Happy Monday!!!!!!!!!!
ok as we seem to be confessing........erm.......are you familiar with lindt lindor ? the red balls? Well...dp bought me a box on sat and innocently asked for one last night only to see the box in the bin - yes the whole box
He then started telling fat girl jokes to, er , cheer me up..........
I would love a slidey chair too but also have no room for one, they are V comfy though.
for those with hip pain, not suffered from it myself yet....Try the sitting cat though and any other yoga you can manage, it really does help to align the spine and alleviate all sorts of pg aches and pains, try the british wheel of yoga for info or antenatal classes.....
Now do I sound like some yoga obsessed nut???
