Hi everyone, new thread...apologies for sorry attempt at poetry

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Someone said to me "pregnancy is not an illness" (yes it was a man and a complete dick!) when I was pg with dd. It was when I was about 12 weeks and couldn't go to work because everything I ate came back up again and I couldn't walk because I kept passing out! I nearly took a swing at him! What a stupid thing to say! Sometimes being pg is an illness.

Derlor I have had this arse stabbing pain. Thought it was just cramp, but it seems I am mistaken! It really hurts and makes me do a funny dance like when you stub your toe and it takes ages to go away! If you find out anything let me know!

Did anyone watch "born with two heads" on c4 just now? It was really sad, but really interesting.

hollyandalice · 05/03/2007 08:30

Good morning everyone!! Why does my dd insist on getting up at 6.30? I hate 6.30 as it is before 7 and I don't do before 7, my body cannot function at that time.

Anyway I just received an email from Vertbaudet saying that I can have 50% off any second item I order. Just put in the code 6240 at the checkout when you order. So if anyone is thinking of buying anything from there put that code in and you'll get a bargain!!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!!

foxybrown · 05/03/2007 09:50

ooh, Men! Can't live with 'em, can't shoot 'em. Sympatise with you, they just don't get it. And making you stay out until 1am is not reasonable. End of.
Funny how everyone's had a pain in the arse this weekend ....
I have a varicous vein. In my fanjo.

annobal · 05/03/2007 09:53

Morning all, I know what you mean Holly - DH keeps getting up to go to the loo at 4am! He wakes me up and I can't get back to sleep

Thanks for the Vertbaudet code - I shall put my order in this morning!

hollyandalice · 05/03/2007 10:04

My dp pissed me off so much last night by snoring I went and slept in the spare room. It was the best nights sleep I've had in ages!! Maybe you should try it annobal (or kick him out of bed), 4am is no time to be woken up!!

Is it greedy to have 2 breakfasts? I had a bagel with cream cheese at 7.30, but now all I can think about is a fried egg sandwich! Mmmmm.....maybe I'll have the egg sandwich now and have salad or something dietry for lunch! I'm having a really lazy day today, I'm not even dressed yet! Maybe that's why my body is telling me it's breakfast time!

foxybrown · 05/03/2007 10:14

Er, I confess we often sleep apart cos of snoring. Especially now DD1 gets up and comes into bed, and kicks him out. Suits us all (oops!)
I favour the two breakfast approach myself. Used to have breakfast before work, one on the way to work, early lunch and late lunch, light tea. After all, we're probably all getting integestion by bedtime, so get the food in while you can is what I say. Of course, I don't go out to work now so my whole day is one long graze! Am off to eat my own weight in toast and marmalade xx

Seansgirl · 05/03/2007 10:24

Holly, another 6.30am start here as well. DHs fault, banging around getting up early waking me and DD up! Tried to convinve DD to have a little more sleep in my bed as I don't do before 7 either! But she was awake and was chattering away about who knows what!

Foxy, I wish you hadn't mentioned the toast and marmalade........I need to have some now!

sputnik · 05/03/2007 10:25

H&A, you are LUCKY. I have been waking at 5.30, and Im actually happy, as it's a huge improvement on waking at 2 or 3 and not being able to get back to sleep for 3 hours, which was what was happening for me for a few weeks. Now I'm "sleeping through", what an achievement.

I'm in full-on old lady mode, as I seem to have knackered my knees by my marathon walk friday. Now I'm hobbling everywhere. Never had knee troubles so I'm thinking it's my pg loose joints maybe? I got the "preg not ill" phrase from a male gynae too, my regular, female, gynae has never said anything like that.

Marylou, you have my sympthy, wanting to go home at 1 is completely reasonable, I would never have lasted that long myself. Watching other people getting pissed is so dull. He'll probably adjust to the fact that things are going to have to change soon, it just takes longer for them as they don't have the constant physical reminder we do.

Daisybump, I'm so glad you had a better weekend, sounds like your H is putting in an effort, sometimes it's easier for a lot of people to show their sorry rather than endless talking, it's a good sign. How did it go with the cat?

foxybrown · 05/03/2007 10:30

I can't get H&As fried egg sarnie out of my head now ....

marylou23 · 05/03/2007 10:45

Good morning! Thanks so much for votes of support. Feel much better today - had it out, finally, last night and he didn't remember anything he'd said. He's just very stubborn when it comes to arguments - he admitted it, said he was sorry, said it was his competitive streak (competitive silence treatment? Oh God...!). i did manage to throw his supper away midway through argument though and he went to bed hungry - called up this morning to say he's ravenous and to ask whether this is the new punishment. I actually don't think it's a bad idea - get 'em where it hurts, in their stomachs...
Varicose vein and pelvic pain sound v. painful - wishing you both speedy recoveries!!
BTW, one of DH's friends on Sat night is a bump grabber. Really, really irritated me - he went straight for it, I kind of pulled away, then he grabbed it again. Think that may have contributed to my mood... Did anyone ever track down/make the teeshirt 'You toucha my bump, I smasha your face?' I think I need one... (was big relief when DH and I started talking again, so we could both agree that the guy's a freak... )

sputnik · 05/03/2007 10:50

Me too, would have to be runny though.

foxybrown · 05/03/2007 11:00

with brown sauce ...
lol Marylou - v funny. glad you made up, getting rid of his dinner was gd idea!!!

sputnik · 05/03/2007 11:08

Just got up from the computer... realised I wasn't exactly hobbling like an old lady but, what with stretched ligaments and knackered knees, more like a John Wayne just-got-off-my-horse after 3 days riding through the desert type waddle. Attractive eh?
Brown sauce, I'm hundreds of miles from the nearest bottle of brown sauce

hollyandalice · 05/03/2007 11:21

Ewww...brown sauce! Ketchup all the way!! Alas I have just been to the fridge and have no eggs! I really can't be bothered to go to the shop so I'll just have to sit here and pine for my sandwich. I have to have them runny too. Am not one for cooking my eggs until they are hard even when pg. I have 100% confidence in British eggs and the whole point of Lion eggs is that they are from salmonella free flocks. So I say splatty eggs are for winners!

Glad things with your dh are ok marylou. My dp has no recollection of drunken statements the next day either which is really annoying when you want to shout at him for something he has said! Nice one for throwing away his dinner, that showed him who's boss!! Also hate bump grabbers, esp men, it's kinda pervy in a weird way. Yuk! You need one of these ! Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a more strongly worded one, "You toucha my bump, I smasha your face" doesn't exist, neither does " Get your dirty hands off my f*king body and stop violating me"! One of my friends lifted my t-shirt up in the play centre the other day to have a look (she is a mum in her 30's!). I was horrified. If I wanted everyone to see my stretchmarks I'd have worn a cropped top!{angry}

marylou23 · 05/03/2007 11:22

Now I'm going to have to have a sausage and fried egg baguette for lunch. With brown sauce, obviously (sorry Sputnik!!).
Yum.

marylou23 · 05/03/2007 11:25

Sorry Holly, cross-posted. Yes, will get the teeshirt right away! Can't believe someone lifted up your top - I think if someone did that to me I really would go mad. Incredible that people don't realise what's appropriate...

sputnik · 05/03/2007 11:33

at the t-shirt lifting H&A. I got a bump-grab too yesterday, admittedly from someone from a part of Italy where they are very physical, still didn't like it though.

Daisybump · 05/03/2007 13:41

I'm just sitting here with my tuna and bean salad drooling over fried eggs......had egg and chips for teas on Saturday and relished dipping the chips into the yokes...I'm with you HandA on the runny egg front. DH works in the food industry and recently for one of the biggest poultry suppliers in UK and he said that salmonella has been eradicated in British flocks so as long as your eggs are from blighty then there's no danger of catching it from undercooked eggs...sometimes he has his uses!! He also does the whole drunken outspoken louty thing, but only very occasionally....last though was my birthday in Feb when we went off to a swanky hotel for the night. He got so drunk that he could barely speak. After the meal we were going to have our coffee in the bar and when I came back from the loo he'd also ordered a pint and a large whisky with a huge fat cigar and he knew I was struggling to keep my eyes open. I went off to bed and left him to it...he came up over an hour later and had to ask for another key....then he kept me awake all night snoring . Should have left the key in the lock and pretended not to hear him knocking!!
Went to the cat shelter and have reserved a giant of a cat (called Marvin by the shelter) who is huge and cuddly and really friendly , but keeps getting looked over because of his size. We are now waiting for the home checker to visit and assess whether or not we live to close to the main road (we're 80m away rather than their preferred 150m, but he was a stray so is quite streetwise). Fingers crossed we pass the check and I'll be bringing him home at the weekend.....DH pissed off as he thought they would wait till I'm off on maternity leave, but if the poor guy needs a home.....
Things on a better footing with DH...we did 'family' stuff yesterday and all went swimming and then to the animal shelter. It'll be a while before things are back to normal, but things have improved. He's definately not happy about the cat thing, but I know he'll love him (but won't admit it). He's especially pissed off as he has to try and fit a cat flap!!
Not had any bump grabbers....but there's a girl at work who is fond of patting...she's from Malaysia, so don't know if its a cultural thing or if its just her. Bit wierd really as I don't know her all that well. Some friends have had a pat, but they have at least asked beforehand.
Ouch...long post

Seansgirl · 05/03/2007 14:02

at the shirt lifting Holly! Some people! Thankfully nobody has tried to touch my bump apart from DH and DD so thats ok! Like the T-shirt might get one just in case - perhaps there is a business opportunity there on the T-shirt front

Seansgirl · 05/03/2007 14:04

Daisy, pleased to hear that things seem a lot more settled you're cat sounds lovely! Fingers crossed for you on the inspection!

Daisybump · 05/03/2007 14:04

Is no one ever around at lunchtime????looking forward to maternity leave so I can chat all day!! Back at work today and nothing has been done with any of my projects, so I've got a weeks backlog to sort out. My longstandiong shoulder injury had been fine all last week then started up again yesterday....looks like physio was right when she thought it was stress related. Three weeks, four and a half days and counting......

sputnik · 05/03/2007 14:19

Glad things are looking up Daisybump, keep counting!

annobal · 05/03/2007 15:05

I can't believe it, I just got back from the gym ( yes gym) and both DSs are flat out - I brought them upstairs and they are snoring on the couch (apple and tree). It may mean that they don't go to sleep for ages tonight but I am now taking a few precious minutes to catch up on the day and Mumsnet .

I also very much want a bacon and egg sarnie - afraid I am a hold the ketchup and hard eggs sort of gal tho...

Daisy I'm so glad that you and DH are getting on better. The cat sounds GORGEOUS and I can't wait until we get to oz as I am definitely getting one.

Also not had any bump grabbers - actually I misread it at first - not sure what would be worse...

We were talking about the swaddle blankets and a friend had one today - they look great as you can still strap them into the buggy and don't need a coat on - I think I will be investing.

SmilingKiwi · 05/03/2007 15:18

Hi All,
Just a quick hello, I havent posted for ages sorry! DaisyB you sure have had a stressful time of late and hugs to you!
I have had a good few weeks, a couple of new things though..indigestion which I've never had before and its taken a few days of small meals and no chocolate to get on top of it...and the other day I had this really bad pain on and off for an hour or so- thanks to searching Mumsnet I think it was a Braxton Hicks or 'irritable uterus' as I was on my feet for hours and pretty dehydrated..lesson learned!
Went shopping for baby things for the first time over the weekend...felt all emotional and totally lost as it is our first and I really feel like I have no idea where to start. Luckily DH is amazing and we had a coffee and talked through my feelings of inadequate knowledge! He comes from a large family and has this huge faith in me and in us- he says things will all fall into place!!???? My biggest question to all you experienced Mums is what do I need to buy for a new born? What is really essential? what size do I buy it in?Urghhh!! Wish my Mum and Dad didn't live thousands of miles away- web cam is great but its not the same as going shopping with Mum to help me! Everyone is so excited for us and I am just confused and scared!
Rant over!
Are you rheusus negative ladies having Anti D during your pregnancy?
Hope you are all well today

xx

marylou23 · 05/03/2007 15:46

Hi Kiwi! I'm totally clueless, too - there's a list in one of my pregnancy books that basically says you need several vests, a couple of sleep suits, a hat, a moses basket/crib/cot, growbags and/or bedding, 50,000 nappies, 60,000 muslins, lots of wipes and nappy cream, and some kick-ass high heels. Okay, so I lied about the high heels, and maybe over-egged the number of nappies/muslins, but you get the picture. I'm kind of working on the basis of that list, plus changing table, plus a bouncing chair, gliding chair for me, and all the gorgeous but unnecessary things I see when out shopping and which I know I'll never use but seem like a good idea at the time... Oh, and big knickers and breast pads. See? I'm going to need the high heels. Yin and yang. It's all about balance...
