london they will give you another scan at 32-34 weeks if it is still low lying at your 20 week scan. By then 90% of them have moved with the uterus moving up. If not they will book you in for a c section at 38 ish weeks. Mine was low and has finally moved. So I wouldn't panic and worry yet! Just wait and see what happens at 32 week scan.

ScottishSnowflake · 27/09/2016 07:07

London, I also have a low laying placenta but the lady at the scan told me not to worry as almost all of them move on or before the 32-36 week scan. Did they say how far below normal you were?

Readyfortwo · 27/09/2016 07:11

Just remembered something else on feeding. The MAM bottles I used were self sterilising so didn't actually need a steriliser (I only used one as I'd been given it as a hand me down). It was great when we were travelling as only had to take the bottle & find a microwave to blitz it in.

Shellbell0403 · 27/09/2016 07:14

Morning ladies...

evee i need to get a gtt also! Think midwife said something around its booked for about 28 weeks... no idea can't mind!

How everyone's bump feeling?

Scan on Thurs! Can't wait!!

ScottishSnowflake · 27/09/2016 07:16

Morning Shell, I still have no bump! I'm carrying really low and so just look like I've put a bit of weight on (I've "thickened" apparently Confused). Am 21+2 but first baby so been told I may still have to wait for bump. My trousers don't like me much though and I've relented to leaving the button/ zip undone with a bump and over the top (useful tip from one of the ladies at work who did this last year!)

Shellbell0403 · 27/09/2016 07:54

scottish I bought jeggings from asda with an elasticated band at the top (more than normal) amazingly comfy and best purchase ever!! Have you felt any movement? Xx

Lala6971 · 27/09/2016 08:11

scottish so glad I am not the only one with zero bump. Baby número uno here too! And I am a larger lady. Can defo feel where it's a bit harder down low now though, but still in my regular clothes too...apart from my work trouser as they are to tight its u comfy but could squish in to,them if I had to.

shell I also invested in the £12 Asda jeggings with the elastic band round the top! Heaven! As for movement I feel my little lady daily now, some days more than others and no pattern to any of it as of yet. 21+6 here x

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 27/09/2016 08:34

London with my first I had low lying placenta at the 20 week scan. Went back for a scan and it had moved and I had a natural birth. I was right on the cusp of it being 'safe' to have a natural birth but everything went well. With my second and this one the placenta is actually in a completely different position so definitely don't think this will always happen.

I've got some tommee tippee bottles in for if breastfeeding doesn't work out/if I can do a mix of breastfeeding and expressing.

Baby has been going wild this morning and I could see slight movement from my Belly! So exciting, 21+4 today!

twocatsandatoddler · 27/09/2016 08:35

London last time mine was still low at 20 weeks, but was completely clear by 32. I know someone has to be in the 10% that doesn't move, but if you think the chance of it not moving is only 10%, and then the chance of a complication arising from it being low is even smaller, then there's only a very small risk of it causing you any problems. And if the hospital suspects that there's anything to worry about they'll monitor you very closely later in pregnancy.

kikisdelivery · 27/09/2016 09:23

Morning all!

London sorry to hear you've been worrying and upset; it sounds like advice from others and experiences of others on here is pretty reassuring - keep prodding your medical staff / midwife for info I'd say... like we've all said, it's why they're there.

Keeping and Lala I'm also joining the movement club Grin - he's bobbling about in there and playing the baby air drums I reckon. I do feel it regularly, so it's difficult to not worry if he goes quiet, but I spoke to the midwife yesterday about that annoying itchy skin I've been getting, and she said they won't properly track movements until week 28, so not to completely freak myself out if I feel nothing or feel very irregular patterns for now.

I had to fight my way past the Dr's receptionists on the phone this morning. The midwife advised seeing the Dr for a prescription for the itches, so I had to play the "Can you not do anything better with my appointment, I am pregnant" card. I finally got an appointment for later today! Feel better now, as we're on holiday from Saturday so I'd be worrying about it flaring up abroad otherwise.

LondonGirl83 · 27/09/2016 10:45

Thanks for all the advice ladies regarding low lying placentas and all your experiences. Its not the type that is fully covering the cervix I don't think but the partial kind, which is good. I don't mind really if it doesn't move as I'm fine with having a c-section though 38 weeks is less than an ideal gestation so I certainly hope it does move.

Its only the risk of increased complications like placenta arreta in this and especially in future pregnancies that has me anxious! Still, the risk of that is really low at this point like you say so I'm just not going to think about it anymore until 32 weeks. You ladies are so sweet and reassuring. I actually don't want to talk about it too much in real life as I come from a family of worriers and I don't want to burden them but its a relief to be able to vent on here a bit :)

I think I am going to get the MAM bottles ready! They look great, particularly the self sterilizing anti-colic feature. For those of you who recommended the swing pump, I can't seem to find it online anywhere. I'm hoping its not discontinued as its also a Which? Best Buy!

I found accidentally that one of my friends is planning a surprise shower for me though I don't know when. It came out because one of my other friends wants to throw one and our mutual friend kind of let it slip in front of me. I'm so excited :) Most of my friends in London are British so I wasn't sure anyone would throw one for me even though I'm American!

CeeCeeEnnEss · 27/09/2016 10:51

Is anyone booked on to the NHS antenatal classes, or NCT? For the NHS ones I just found the form and it said to return it at the 20 week scan. Oops.

SausageDogGeorge · 27/09/2016 10:53

Hi ladies, just catching up on last few pages of messages!!

I have to go for the GTT on 31 October when I'll be 26 weeks. I an having it as my first 2 children were 9lbs and 9lbs 9! I have a normal BMI and am of slight build (size 8/10) so they've said it might be just that I cook big babies! But they're testing for diabetes anyway just to be on the safe side. Not looking forward to the fasting as I'm constantly hungry!! Grin

I exclusively breastfed my son for 6 months then introduced follow on milk & started weaning. He slept 12 hours a night from about 12 weeks old - he was a perfect baby though! Smile I did the exact same with my daughter and she was a terrible sleeper Confused so in my scientific opinion......exclusive breastfeeding can either make them sleep or not! Hmm

In other news.....we went baby shopping on Sunday & chose the pram we'd like. We didn't buy it but we've chosen the Silver Cross Surf 2 with the carrycot, pushchair and a car seat that can be clipped on too. I love it and I'm excited to order it in a couple of months time (going to keep an eye out for special offers etc!) we also bought vests, sleepsuits and a hooded towel! Feel a bit more organised now Smile

LondonGirl83 · 27/09/2016 10:56

Kiki good on you for being pushy with the receptionist!

Scottish Shell Lala I am still in normal clothes too but I think my bump though small is definitely obvious to people who know me. Its not a beautiful round pregnancy bump yet-- more like a round lower gut as I'm carrying low. I'm sure to some people I just look out of shape / bloated.

Every day I'm getting more and more movement which I love. Its so amazing to feel her bouncing around inside me!

SausageDogGeorge · 27/09/2016 10:59

Ooooh......my friends are also planning a baby shower London - I didn't think they would but apparently they are! There was no such thing 13 years ago when I had my son! I also thought it was more of an American thing but I suppose it's filtered through to the UK now.
I'm buying the MAM bottles too ready I want to introduce them as soon as possible whilst I'm breastfeeding so that my DP can feed baby my expressed milk.

twocatsandatoddler · 27/09/2016 11:12

I have a load of Avent bottles in the attic so I'm going to reuse those (with new teats), and if the baby doesn't like them I'll try MAM
ones I think. DS was a really laid back baby and had no issue switching from bottle to breast, so I'm going to be totally unprepared if this one is fussy! He napped beautifully, ate well and was generally delighted with life. I keep thinking we can't get that lucky twice!

I'm not having a baby shower (didn't have one last time either) but I think I'm going to organise a get together with close friends in London in January, maybe an afternoon tea or fancy lunch or something, just to have some indulgent time for me before the baby arrives.

ChozzleopsTheThird · 27/09/2016 11:15

sausagedog we ordered our surf 2 from Winstanleys Pramworld and it was a lot cheaper than most other places

SausageDogGeorge · 27/09/2016 11:21

Yes thanks chozzle Smile we've found that's the cheapest place so far but mothercare is currently giving a free Simplicity car seat when you buy the pushchair/carrycot (£725) - the only thing is that it's not in the black which is the colour we want! We'll no doubt end up ordering from Winstanleys - although we were in John Lewis at the weekend and they said they will price match

LondonGirl83 · 27/09/2016 11:38

sausage that's great. I'm excited for you as when done right they are really fun :)

ready that sounds like a really nice way to celebrate with everyone

I know showers aren't everyone's cup of tea in the UK. My friends are great about helping me do American stuff though. We are all having Thanksgiving this year at my house as I can't fly home to Miami due to the zika outbreak!

I'll probably end up having two showers as one of my best friends has just left to go travelling for 6 months but she'll be back around Christmas time. She wants to have a small shower when she pops back as she'll miss my 'surprise' shower apparently. The 3rd girl in our trio will organise that one and since its Christmas time, my mom might be over and can come along. I haven't let my other friends or my DH know that I know about the surprise one as they'll be so disappointed. I don't know when it is though so it will still be a surprise :)

twocatsandatoddler · 27/09/2016 11:47

London I've loved other people's baby showers that I've gone to, it's just not something I wanted for myself. This time round we don't really need anything either so don't want people to feel obliged to buy something we don't need!

wispaxmas · 27/09/2016 12:19

I didn't realise you were American, London! I was sad I didn't get to have a baby shower for DD, but anyone who would have organised one for me was and still is back in Canada or in the states, so I didn't have one. This time I'm visiting my mom for 2 weeks next month and She was just telling be about how my aunt is throwing my SIL a second baby shower in November and part of me just felt so irrationally sad and upset that no one wants to throw one for me. Irrational because I know it's just not the done thing here, and I don't actually want or need lots of stuff, I just feel like I missed out on all the happy celebrations I know my friends and family have had back home.

Shellbell0403 · 27/09/2016 12:47

wispa they might throw you a wee surprise one when your over?

Should I feel worried that I'm not feeling alot or as much movement as you all around the same time as me?

Readyfortwo · 27/09/2016 12:59

Not sure what's happened to the Medela Swing London. Maybe worth giving them a call to find out. You can prob pick one up on eBay (they're easy to clean) but worth checking with them directly in case there's been some kind of recall.

LondonGirl83 · 27/09/2016 13:03

Sorry when I said ready I meant twocats in my previous post Confused.

I totally get where you are coming from, especially if you are not North American. My close friends and family have already asked what they can get for the baby as they are all so excited so I don't think the shower will be any extra pressure. We are financially independent so will get all the big things ourselves luckily. However when you as not financially stable showers are a great help in the US. Everyone in your inner circle helps each other set up house each time a baby is born (kind of like a wedding) so no one is crushed by the full expense of it all at once. Its kind of like a cooperative concept.

In our case in our case I think our friends just want to feel involved and have a fun celebration. My mum has been harassing me to let her buy stuff for weeks! A few of my friends and my BIL and his partner have said they think they talk about the baby between themselves more than DH and I do, which is probably true :)

Wispa maybe you'll get a surprise shower which would be lovely! It's hard not being able to celebrate your cultural traditions at big life moments like this so I totally get where you are coming from. I think we will be the crazy Halloween house on our block as well now that we'll have a little one. :)

SausageDogGeorge · 27/09/2016 13:10

I just ordered a Mam Breast Feeding starter set (inc the breast pump, bottles etc) on Boots.com which is half price (£37.50) online at the moment. Added a couple of other bits for baby in the shopping basket too to make it up to £45 for free delivery! Smile
