Also, can you believe we are almost done with thread 7?! I feel like this one just started.

twocatsandatoddler · 19/09/2016 11:35

London DS is 21 months and still using his high chair, and I suspect will be using it for a while. He can sit on a normal chair in a booster seat but tends to wriggle out and I like to keep him where I want him! So we've had almost 18 months of use out of it already. But it's down to preference, I think. We will probably get him a toddler height chair rather than use a booster seat when he stops using the high chair - IKEA does a few which I'm going to check out when I go cot shopping, but I know others who use booster seats with their two year olds.

FriendlyGhost · 19/09/2016 12:17

London my dd is also 21 months and uses the high chair at dinner time. For breakfast and lunch she has a little ikea toddler chair and table. She's tall so I expect she'll go straight to sitting on a normal chair for dinner when she finally refuses to go in the highchair at dinner time.
My scan is on Friday too Kiki. I'm going to have to keep myself very busy until then!

kikisdelivery · 19/09/2016 12:28

Eee Friendly, scan buddies Smile

I've a feeling we've mentioned this before.... yours is earlier than mine/earlier in the day, I think I remember you saying. Mine's 4.30pm...grrr! Why I accepted that time I've no idea! Work would've let me finish earlier!

FriendlyGhost · 19/09/2016 12:47

Haha yes Kiki mine is at 9.50 I think (should probably check). I'm hoping that by the time I've got dd up and ready there won't be much time to be nervous. Let's hope this week goes quickly for us!

wispaxmas · 19/09/2016 13:25

On the subject of high chairs, I'm going to be the one person who isn't a fan of the IKEA antilop chair. At friends' houses who had it I kicked the legs so many times I found it annoying, and it actually has quite a wide space it takes up. Not much wider than the Tripp trapp, TBH, but the other issue I had was that DD has always had very very chunky legs and isn't a fan of high chairs, so goes stiff as a board and I would find it difficult to angle her into it when we had to use them. The baby set on the Tripp trapp has similar size leg openings, but as it's generally a more open chair I found it easier. I did end up taking the baby set off entirely and just using it as a normal chair once DD was about 20 months old. She was being such a pain at meal times, climbing out of the seat, and bizarrely having no constraint actually meant she sat nicely through a meal as she knew that if she wanted to get down she could do it herself.

wispaxmas · 19/09/2016 13:29

London, it was the longevity of the Tripp trapp that sold it for me, as it can be used from birth to adulthood because it isn't really a high chair. We've used it when we had friends over for dinner and needed another chair at the table and just had to lower the seat. We did get one on a really good offer as it was a floor model in a closing down kiddicare, but I'd still recommend it! Loads sell second hand, too.

wispaxmas · 19/09/2016 13:30

kiki and twocats, my scan is Friday, too!

twocatsandatoddler · 19/09/2016 14:02

wispa I liked the Tripp Trapp too. In the end we decided to go for the cheapest version and if we didn't get on with it we could pass it on to someone else and it wouldn't be much money wasted. The Tripp Trapp was on the shortlist for more expensive options to try afterwards, but we liked the IKEA one so didn't bother looking at any others. I will admit I've stumbled over the legs a few times though!

MarjorySunshineDust · 19/09/2016 14:18

We have a Tripp trapp and I like it for the same reasons as wispa. It is still used now by DD (3) as a normal chair. When the new baby needs it I will put the baby part on again.
I actually got it second hand from a local netmums selling page so has been excellent value!

FriendlyGhost · 19/09/2016 14:41

I've tripped over the legs and sworn at the Ikea highchair a few times too! A friend of mine has a tripp trapp and they are lovely. My annoying Houdini baby escapes from it though. She's a pain unless she's completely restrained.
What would you all do about announcing your pregnancy if you knew a close friend had recently had a miscarriage? I was planning to do a fb post after my 20 week scan. There are people who I want to tell but really only contact through fb. A good friend texted a couple of weeks ago to tell me that she'd just been through a miscarriage. Really sad because our dds are close in age and these babies would have been too. She already knows I'm pregnant but I don't want to upset her further by flaunting it. Should I just leave it, or should I wait a few more weeks, or will it be ok to say something? Her feelings are the most important but I just don't know what the right thing to do is.

Evergreen17 · 19/09/2016 14:48

I had wine BlushBlushBlushWine
I cooked risotto and used some so the bottle was opened and I drunk a glass Sad

twocatsandatoddler · 19/09/2016 16:01

Friendly I have some friends in a similar position with MC, stillbirths, and long periods TTC so I don't like to do Facebook announcements, but there are people I don't see that often so it is a good way of letting people know!

We had some family photos taken last month, the photographer was our wedding photographer and a friend so she tagged me in the pictures and one of them was of me and a bump. So it was on Facebook, but you had to look at the pics to see it, and it was quite a subtle way of letting people know without actually having to do an announcement! Could you get someone else to do something similar with tagging you looking pregnant in a photo so it's obvious but doesn't look like you're flaunting it?

That said, I'm sure a good friend would be happy for you, especially if you've already told her privately that you're pregnant so she's not finding out through fb. Could you ask her first how she'd feel about it?

itsliz · 19/09/2016 16:21

Ahhh, I'm so rubbish at keeping up with these threads!

Went back to work 2 weeks ago after being off for the summer holidays and I haven't had a spare moment since! Is it ok to be added to the FB group? I'm much better at keeping up to date on there!

RE the ikea high chairs - they do take up a bit more room than folding ones but if you've got the room then I'd definitely recommend as they're so, so easy to clean!
We got a folding one from Kiddicare last time and I really regretted it - it was forever getting crumbs down the sides and the straps weren't removable to wash. Nightmare!

Ragdollmum1985 · 19/09/2016 17:36

My scan is on Saturday and I can't wait! I had a private one just before I came on holiday so I'm not as anxious as I would have been!

I had a miscarriage just before I fell pregnant and my best friend was pregnant at the time. It was hard but I still wanted to be part of my friends pregnancy I just distanced myself a bit when I was feeling a bit low. I actually came off Facebook for a while after as I needed a bit of head space. However I don't think that you posting announcements is insensitive in any way. You have every right to get excited and let people know whatever way you feel you want too Smile

Anyone got a snooze pod or chicco next to me? Which one do you think is better??

divadee · 19/09/2016 17:44

Well I saw the consultant after hours of waiting.... And he has signed me off for a home birth provisionally (just need to make it to 37 weeks) and said my cervix is looking long and fabulous and that I don't need to go back.

He said keeping my legs up as much as possible and resting a lot will help as it keeps the weight of baby off my cervix (even if she is bouncing around on it!)

So relived. Now to try and relax which is hard before 24 weeks. But I'm getting there.

FriendlyGhost · 19/09/2016 17:56

Thanks twocats and ragdoll I think I will check with her first. I know she won't be anything but happy for me but I really don't want to upset her. I realise that there could be other friends that are going through the same but haven't told anyone so it's always tricky but I do want to tell people.
itsliz you just have to pm your email address to wispaxmas and she will invite you to the group. That goes for anyone else that wants to join now tooSmile

Blueskies80 · 19/09/2016 18:44

We used the antilop ikea high chair for both of ours, it was great, but quite a big footprint, so think we will get a trip trap second hand this time round, combination of needing it to be more space efficient and wanting baby to join in at table (and baby led weaning I expect). We still have our antilop which we can use if needs be.

LondonGirl83 · 19/09/2016 20:22

Friendly I have a friend who has been struggling. I don't think its insensitive to announce on Facebook. If she is a close friend though I would just warn her before you do it so she can stay off of Facebook for a couple of days if she thinks it might be difficult. I think she'll appreciate the thoughtfulness of letting her know.

wispa I like that highchair too! One thing I liked about the miChair besides that it eventually can be used as a normal chair (and its looks) is that you can put the baby bouncer on top of it. Because I have cats, I worry about leaving the baby bouncer on the floor in the kitchen (with baby in it or out) as I know my cats will make a bee line for it and it will constantly be full of cat fur...

For the mums on here with cats, how do you manage this? Am I over thinking this.

Divadee congrats on the good results. I feel like my baby is constantly sat on my cervix. Its actually quite painful. I'm going to mention it at my next visit.

Ever a glass of wine is fine! Enjoy your risotto :)

Shellbell0403 · 19/09/2016 20:29

London i was thinking that also! I know my cat will be into everything!! He's a wee bugger!!

Can't believe we are on the chat of high chairs already!! Iv not even decided on prams etc or anything lol!

diva fab news on the results today!! Keep those feet up!

ever so jealous of the glass of wine! Haha...

Well I managed not to kill my husband but am absolutely exhausted today!! Bump seems to have defo made an appearance, woohoo!!

CeeCeeEnnEss · 19/09/2016 20:31

Glad to hear it divadee, and evergreen I wouldn't worry about a glass of wine, just try not to drink the whole bottle.

Friendly I have a colleague who just had a late miscarriage so I was wary of not making a fuss, but I did put a FB photo announcement on. I figure, she can hide it or me, I'm entitled to be excited too.

DH is having a wobble about the pram we chose. It's a 3 wheeler and he's worried it'll be unstable. I can't imagine that in our litigious society it would be on sale if it was unstable, but I'm anxious again now!

FriendlyGhost · 19/09/2016 20:57

London I don't worry too much about a bit of cat hair. I probably sound a bit of a slob saying that but I do seem to be cleaning constantly and it makes no difference. I think it's important for children to come into contact with animals and their fur. They're much less likely to develop allergies if they've grown up with animals. I did shut them out of the room that dd slept in (ours or hers) for the first year and I still do when she's sleeping. I remember washing the pram sheets a few times after discovering a very comfy cat in there but otherwise I don't think they slept on too much of her stuff. They were insanely jealous at first and kept out of her way quite a lot.

LondonGirl83 · 19/09/2016 21:26

Our cats have long hair and at certain times of the year shed a lot. I had dog as a kid and quite bad allergies until I was 8 years old. When we did a major move at the age of 4 my parents finally gave up our dog to a friend. They didn't earlier as I loved having a pet but I really suffered for it and was ill a lot with various respiratory illnesses on top of the allergies.

I didn't finally outgrow it until I was 9 when I finally was allowed to have a cat. That's probably why I'm a bit concerned about them sleeping in her bouncer etc. We'll just have to see how it goes I guess.

Evergreen17 · 19/09/2016 21:55

I only had the one glassSmile
19 weeks today and bump is here but still looks like I am just fat.
We went to see a nursery today and we will be booking a place there.
We looked around and there were lots of babies and toddlers just too cute. I want mine out alreadyGrin

Evergreen17 · 19/09/2016 21:56

Regarding movement, I am definitely feeling something but I cant describe it. It happens a few tomes a day now Smile
