Sleep suit and baby grow are the same things to me. They are the ones that are like a onesie with feet.

Bodysuits are like vests I think and either long or short sleeved.

But maybe I'm old and don't know

Wonderlust123 · 17/09/2016 18:54

Considering we're having winter babies, I'd imagine that bodysuits wouldn't be necessary? (Or are they useful to use as an extra layer under something?)

FriendlyGhost · 17/09/2016 19:22

What diva said. My dd was a winter baby and lived in a short sleeved vest (bodysuit) with a baby gro/sleep suit over. Get baby gros with feet-babies don't keep sock on!
A pram suit is more of a padded outdoor suit. Some people don't rate them as padded ones can't be used in a car seat but I liked them for long walk in the pram.
I was given a few outfits but much prefer small babies in baby gros. So much easier too!

SpinALittleFaster · 17/09/2016 19:35

wonder sleepsuits have big gaps between the poppers so you need a vest/bodysuit underneath to keep them warm. M&S do packs of 7 white vests for about £10 which wash well if you're looking for basics. I got pretty patterned vests last time then no one saw them because they were always under something!
Personally I'd just buy sleepsuits and vests to begin with and then you can get pretty outfits once you're up for going out spending a fortune online during cluster feeds.

divadee · 17/09/2016 19:37

I agree with friendly about the vests wonderlust. With my daughter I used a vest under a baby grow for around the house. If very cold a little cardigan over the top. She always wore a bodysuit even in the summer. It also keeps the nappies in place etc....

SpinALittleFaster · 17/09/2016 19:37

Oh and watch out for sleepsuits with anything other than straight down the middle poppers. Next are really bad for having 1/3 diagonal and you have to undo the whole damn thing to change a nappy.

Sparrowlegs248 · 17/09/2016 19:46

Ds was a summer baby so in a vest most often, but once it got cooler it was vest and sleepsuit, then cardigan over (knitted by the grannies)

Yes yes to the bastard diagonal poppers! They are a nightmare! You can get sleepsuit with poppers just on the legs, so they go over the head, arms in then do up insides of legs. This are OK too.

Ds was in sleepsuit til he started crawling and still wears them for bed.

Mw appointment Monday, to catch up since she though I was 12 weeks when I'm fact I was 18+4. Then second scan Wednesday.

FriendlyGhost · 17/09/2016 19:47

And avoid sleep suits with poppers on the back like the plague. We were given some and they were worn for photos only. Such a pain! I really rate the m&s and John Lewis vests and sleep suits for softness and quality. I think m&s have 20% off this weekend. Their plain white ones are lovely for a newborn.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 17/09/2016 21:02

I call body suits vests and sleep suits baby grows, pram suits are the padded all in ones which are great if you walk a lot as they keep baby snug in the pram. Always use vests IMO, more for the fact they keep the nappy secure!

I personally use babygros for at home but put baby in an 'outfit' if I'm going out (which I do most days) . I know its not everyone's preference but its just how I've always done it. I do however make sure the outfits are nice and comfy. Often cotton dresses, dungarees, tunics etc. Never had to dress a baby boy but I've seen some lovely little dungaree sets etc if baby is blue.

Dd2 (23 months) has been potty training the past two weeks and has been amazing. She did a week with nothing on in the house and pull ups when we went out. All this week she's not worn a pull up and has been dry every day! We've been out lots but she's just tells me when she needs a wee and holds it until we find the nearest loo. Been lots of Tesco and cafe stops but I'm very proud. She's been dry at night the past 9 nights but I'm gonna keep a pull up on at bedtime for now as she gets in with me often and we've just bought a new mattress lol. I'm very happy to be getting thus out of the way before baby comes this time. Dd1 started potty training a week after her second birthday, which happened to be when dd2 was just 18 days old. Dd1 did really well and made things easier than they could have been but my lord it was hard the first few weeks. Dd1 would always seem to need the loo just as dd2 was settling into a feed!

Thank you so much evergreen oh my god I love that poncho!!!! I love the colour as well. God I wish I could knit!!

Evergreen17 · 17/09/2016 21:28

That poncho is too cut
Maybe because it is on a baby Smile

Evergreen17 · 17/09/2016 21:31

Too cute

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 17/09/2016 21:40

That poncho!!! Sooo cute

Wonderlust123 · 17/09/2016 22:16

Thanks for your answers, that's much clearer now Smile

Sunshineface123 · 18/09/2016 07:05

Love all the clothes talk! Do you think short sleeve vests or long sleeve vests for under baby grows will be best? Going to try to wait till after 20week scan to buy and keep things to the minimum but very hard!

divadee · 18/09/2016 07:34

sunshine I was planning on getting short sleeved for me. Unless we have a really freezing cold winter they were fine with my daughter and she was born in December.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 18/09/2016 07:51

I prefer just to get short sleeved vests. When its cold you can just later something like a cardigan on top and the short sleeved ones are easier to get on and off x

topmammy · 18/09/2016 08:02

That poncho really is cute Grin I would quite like one for DD too actually!

Keepingup thats so good about your LO potty training before baby arrives. I'd love DD to (she's 25 months) but she gets upset if I ask her if she wants to sit on the potty so I don't think she's ready. I think she does know when she's doing a wee though. My hubby keeps asking me when do I think we should be potty training her but there really isn't much point yet if she's not cooperative I guess. Confused

I used long sleeved vests in winter last time but might actually go for short sleeved this time as many of you suggest as the long sleeves are tricky to pull down under babygrow arms.

Baby has been fairly quiet the past couple of days after a few days of big kicks. It's making me feel very impatient for my scan!

That poncho is so cute!

I have bought 2 baby grows so far as couldn't resist but going to get a few things after our official 20 weeks scan! Also going to look at ordering my pram! The more I look the more I like the egg!

Has anyone had any experience with lay flat car seats?

twocatsandatoddler · 18/09/2016 08:55

I love the poncho! I've tried knitting but never managed to get my head around it, so I have a half-finished scarf somewhere from about 3 years ago! I might ask my mum if she fancies making it.

keeping that's great that your DD is getting on so well with potty training. Will be easier only dealing with nappies for one child! DS is not much younger at 21 months but he's nowhere near ready. He knows when he's doing a poo as he will find a corner to stand in and then announce it afterwards, but I don't think he has any awareness of wee yet. I'm planning to tackle it next summer when he'll be 2 1/2.

CeeCeeEnnEss · 18/09/2016 09:03

I still haven't bought any baby stuff, but today we're starting on the nursery! I say we but mainly DH. I'm currently playing with one of the cats.

Evergreen17 · 18/09/2016 09:06

Sunshine some people said that the long sleeved ones can roll underneath the sleepsuit
Topmammy the pattern is from ravelry as well, free
I cant wait for my scan!! I think I sometimes feel the bubba but I am never sure. I hope to feel it a bit more soon but I dont want to be woken up either! Grin

ScottishSnowflake · 18/09/2016 09:23

Evergreen, I was only feeling my little one once in a blue moon, and then after all the prodding the lady did at the 20w scan, she's woken him up! Now he's very active lol! Hopefully it'll be the same for you Smile

wispaxmas · 18/09/2016 09:45

I never used bodysuits under sleepsuits as we keep our house warm.

I love that poncho! Making me wish I could knit Shock
