Piano I am one of those nutcases that doesn’t like looking at packaging so I have really been focused on getting practical and attractive storage to hold all of the paraphernalia! I’ve got some nice (expensive) storage cubes in grey from Nubie to hold changing supplies including spare vests and muslin cloths. They’ll go on the first shelf of the changing table. Most of the other things I’ve bought though are from all over the place. I invested in the cubes as I’ll be able to use them elsewhere in the house after the baby phase is over.

We've bought these string lights for around the window

Race car, though I got it for less than this in the White Company Sale a few weeks ago:

I already have an old 1960’s beech vintage rocking chair that I’ll put in the nursery and other stuff we already own that we think will work. We aren’t getting loads for the room, just a few really nice things (mobiles, night light, wet wipe dispenser, some more toys and books for the shelves, wardrobe, diaper pail, some nice pics). We are still trying to decide on the cot bed. The one I really love is too large for the space we have so DH and I are picking our second choice.

SausageDogGeorge · 12/09/2016 15:29

Oops - yes, forgot a baby needs feeding! Grin LondonGirl83 I am going to breastfeed (I hope) as I did with my 2 other DC but theres still all the bottles & pump etc, you're right. Making lists is the only way i can cope kikisdelivery without my brain feeling frazzled!! Grin

I love all the stuff you've chosen LondonGirl83 - its all gorgeous! Star Even though we haven't got a nursery to decorate (yet) we will still need some storage to put all the bits & pieces in so we're going to choose some drawers with maybe a changing table thingy on top, and then when we have the nursery we can get the matching cot and wardrobe etc.

I'm feeling very crafty, (well I always have) so this is the perfect opportunity to make something useful!

I have an old family chest of drawers that I'm planning to paint and make drawer knobs from with wooden animals I bought from Japan and maybe use as changing table. And i'll make another mobile as this one I made for a friend went down a treat. At the mo I'm making this alphabet picture (swapped pinks for greys) but have only done 4 letters so far! Was planning on crocheting a blanket but that might have to wait...

Forgot to say london you have good taste! I like bright colours, especially in those first few winter months, your little girl will love them I'm sure!

Out of interest, how much time do babies stay in their nurseries usually? Ours will be in a next to me bed for the first few months I'm sure, would be a shame to have this beautiful room upstairs that never gets used?

LondonGirl83 · 12/09/2016 16:07

Thanks Sausage and Piano-- I like bright and cheery as I'm from Miami. Most of the room is white (including the wood floors) with one grey-green wall so I felt pops of color would help liven it up.

Piano I'm impressed that you made that beautiful mobile. I wish I were more crafty. I've been thinking of learning to knit so I can make some simple booties.

I think my little girl will be in with me for the first few months if not the full 6 that's recommended. However, there is no place in our room though to store her clothes or have a changing unit so I reckon she'll be in there a decent amount of time for clothes and nappy changes, post bath etc even when she's an infant.

Also, I might do my nursing in there for a change of scenery. After all, if I make it nice enough I won't mind hanging out in there myself watching netflix on my laptop :)

Workinzzz · 12/09/2016 17:03

Glad to know I'm not alone Kiki and kellz!

London she is lovely and I know she wants to "be close" to new arrival but I also, demonstrably, but not violently, take her hand away every time she does it, so she knows it makes me uncomfortable and DH telling her will just make me sound awkward and no doubt cause an argument between them where she will be so hurtHmm

She tells stories about when DH's ExP was expecting, of how ungrateful she was of all MIL's "help" at the time, and how "precious and demanding" she was. I just think she sounds sane with good boundaries and wish I was as forceful!

I will keep on avoiding and telling her politely and she will keep ignoring me no doubt!

Shellbell0403 · 12/09/2016 17:04

sausage I'm looking at the silvercross ones also... love the raspberry and damson colour ones 😀

You are all scaring me with the lists! Haha...

Bisquick · 12/09/2016 17:27

Oh those are some lovely things London - especially love the racecar.

I haven't really bought anything - am of the 'let's see what we actually need later on' camp. I've looked at a few prams - but probably won't get one till around Christmas anyway; want to pop into a store so I can see all the various kinds and understand some of the jargon. I have no idea what a 'travel system' includes for example! Besides I'll probably wear him for the first few months at least anyway so not in a massive hurry to get a pram. [As an aside, I imagine we will have to buy/borrow a car seat to bring him home from the hospital? Neither of us drives - so will probably take a cab, but I've been told the car seat is essential to get discharged?]

I did do some amateur weekend crafting though... although nothing quite as lovely as your mobile Piano - I'm v inspired to try making a similar one! I made door dampeners for all our doors so they can't slam (not something to worry about for yonks, but wanted to test out the new sewing machine), and made a baby quilt. [Well, quilted it. Still need to bind off the edges].

Carly6971 · 12/09/2016 17:35

Sorry everyone for the morning rant :( feeling lots better this evening now the shock is wearing off.

However I have been worried all weekend as am having really sharp pains that are continually there and sometimes making it hard to stand up straight. I think they are worse this evening. Is this normal stretching? Something more? I am not sure. And not sure what to do as only number I have in my blue book is the hospital....which seems extreme! Have only ever been to hospital/docs for fertility issues since I had chicken pox at 11 touch wood

Bisquick · 12/09/2016 17:41

Carly sharp pains that have gone on all weekend are probably worth calling about. Does your trust/hospital have a phone no for the midwives unit? They often run an emergency phone unit for pregnant women, and at least my maternity folder says to call that number with any questions after 14 w. It probably is just loosening ligaments - but would be better to check in for peace of mind.

Shellbell0403 · 12/09/2016 17:42

carly maybe round ligament pains... just give them a wee call just for your own peace of mind..

Carly6971 · 12/09/2016 17:45

I feel like a nuisance :( I am not used to making a fuss. Suffered a very painful
Miscarriage in silence by myself at home :( will feel silly if they tell me to go to hospital and then it's just stretching. But deep down I am starting to worry :(

Shellbell0403 · 12/09/2016 18:08

Phone them carly i called a couple of weeks ago and they were lovely. Just asked me some questions over the phone and then told me was round ligament pain.. don't feel as though ur being a nuisance!! Phone them!

Shellbell0403 · 12/09/2016 18:09

Question for the cat people.... is anyone of you worried about getting toxoplasmosis??

Readyfortwo · 12/09/2016 18:11

Are the pains down near your public bone Carly? I've had quite a few of those, quite sharp feeling. They give you a hospital number as the mw's are on duty 24/7 so you can always get hold of someone. It's quite ok to call them & they'll soon tell you if it's nothing to worry about!

2nd timers...how are your pelvic floors feeling? I think I grew quite a lot in the last week (well my bump def has and I've been very achey), and the last few days my pelvic floor has started to feel very 'unsecure'. I was walking along today & felt like I wanted to hold it in place!

Loving all the shopping chat. DH and I had a spreadsheet last time with a big long list of what we needed, where we were getting it from (e.g. loan from brother, buy from xxx), costs etc. Not much to get this time so I'm focusing on sorting DS' new room instead. Lots of Pinterest!

Carly6971 · 12/09/2016 18:27

Have a had a Google and seems it's just seems like severe round ligament pain. I didn't know it could last for days though!! Will just wait till scan and mention it then it's only on Wednesday :) thanks everyone x

Sunshineface123 · 12/09/2016 18:40

shell I'm a cat person , 2 lovely girls! Not worried as hubby picking out poos from litter box and when I change the litter always wear gloves. I read somewhere that most cat owners will already be immune but best to be careful.

LondonGirl83 · 12/09/2016 18:40

Carly glad you feel reassured though it's not a nuisance to ring for advice from the mw if you need to 😀

Shell taxo risk terrifies me. I haven't been changing the litter box since we started TTC.

I've had cats even as a kid though so my one comforting thought is that I've probably already had it which renders it harmless in pregnancy. Between owning cats, gardening and all the other ways to get it I'm sure I'll have had it before. Still part if me wants to get tested

CeeCeeEnnEss · 12/09/2016 18:42

Carly I've been getting the same pains, try not to worry. I've even been getting pains in my lady garden, which are surprising.

If they get too strong to bear or you get bleeding then call your midwife/the hospital.

kikisdelivery · 12/09/2016 18:47

Carly, I've also been getting them - thought I'd jump in and also reassure if I can - though I'm new to all this! Mine have been in lower abdomen (almost what would be top of my uterus) and are better when sitting still! I'm going to get a hot (well, warm!) bath tonight and see if it eases them; I think it kicked off from sitting on hard grassy ground a lot yesterday - my back and lower middle were throbbing by the end of the day, and today I cycled to/from work which probably didn't help.

Shellbell0403 · 12/09/2016 18:48

london sunshine i changed the litter tray at start of pregnancy and washed hands straight away and covered mouth.. last few times been my darling sds and noticed remi hasn't been poo'ing in his box so must be outside... just petrified after clapping him and lifting him, normally wash my hands after but must be once or twice forgotten... I'm sure all OK, he's bitten me a few times before conceived and had antibiotics..

ceecee Iv been getting pains in that area also...

Carly6971 · 12/09/2016 19:02

Thanks for the reassurance ladies. Gosh what a day this has turned out to be lol! Currently doing the exact same kiki bath is very soothing/relaxing. Roll on tomorrow and a brand new day :) thanks for putting up with me today! Been a godsend being able to express how I really felt while putting on a brave face to mum, brother and SIL :) x

divadee · 12/09/2016 19:28

20 week scan all done and all ok!!!! We were in there nearly an hour as bubs was in an awkward position. Her head is literally on the top of my cervix. Head down and legs up by ribs. Made looking at my placenta hard!

As for cervical length. It's all looking good. 4.1 today. And that's average for 20 weeks so whoop whoop.

Gratuitous scan piccy attached.

As for the pains downstairs I am getting the Fanny daggers too. Feels like a knitting needle to the cervix. Not pleasant at all!

FriendlyGhost · 12/09/2016 19:36

Shell I'm still changing litter trays. I didn't last pregnancy but it's too much hassle reminding my DH constantly. I just wash my hands thoroughly afterwards. I've lived with cats for 30 years and worked at a rescue centre for a couple of years too so I expect I am immune anyway. I believe that if your cats don't catch much wildlife your risks are reduced. Mine were originally house cats and so don't go out much and are rubbish hunters so I think it's not a huge risk for me anyway.
Hope you're feeling better now Carly. I get shooting pains when I stand up suddenly sometimes. All normal.
Ready my pelvic floor feels fine at the moment. It somehow withstood a 10lb baby so I did a lot of pelvic floor exercises after birth to make sure it didn't weaken. I'm trying to do them again when I remember!
