london I'm still wearing normal pants too!

Kiki i would definitely wait and see how you feel nearer the time or even do some research about places they could stay near by and speak to everyone about it...

Fenella i wore spanx once before (not pregnant) and they kept rolling down! Haha

GinIsIn · 07/09/2016 13:06

Bisquick & Shell - yes I've worn the normal ones quite a few times - I bloody love them! Smile I think I will get some and see.

LondonGirl83 · 07/09/2016 13:55

Witch my BMI is normal and this is my first baby but my friend whose BMI was over 30 had to meet with anesthetist and he said it was to check if epidural would be feasible etc. Sorry your midwife hasn't been more helpful.

kikisdelivery · 07/09/2016 14:10

Thanks ladies for answering my question! It's reassuring to know that you basically agree I wouldn't be being overly paranoid if we stayed in the UK and made family travel to us this time. As this is our first baby, despite the fact that everything will probably be late, I think I'd rather have the assurance of knowing where my nearest hospital/GP surgery is and so on!

Time to get the in-laws looking at flights over!!

39up · 07/09/2016 14:38

Hello! Here to join you lot. New to MN, and about to be new to parenting too - this is my first, due in Feb 2017. Very excited. Had 12 week and 18 week scan, all is good and I'm now letting myself look at baby names.

mrschn · 07/09/2016 15:25

kiki it's not paranoid. I can't think of anything worse than flying Ryanair heavily pregnant... They weren't exactly designed for comfort! I'd take the relatives up on their offer personally. Unless you were particularly looking forward to the trip.

PianoOnlyTheWhiteKeys · 07/09/2016 17:36

I guess the benefits would be being a guest and not having to do the cooking, etc. if that's what your family are like. But at the same time, if you're feeling uncomfortable or just want to go have a break/lie down its much easier when you're in your own home.

Hopefully everyone can rally together and give you a break from entertaining everyone and cooking though. We'll hopefully be having Christmas at our house but the in-laws are only 10 mins away and v chilled. The noisy nephews and family are away this year so will be a very quiet affair, unlike next year I'm sure!!

LondonGirl83 · 07/09/2016 17:47

My mom is coming over from Miami to spend Christmas with us. I have a cousin who lives in England and she and her husband and her parents are likely to be in London for Christmas too. We are thinking of having them all over for Christmas though my mom and aunt will do all the cooking while my DH rubs my feet :)

I hope it works out as I love having lots of family around for Christmas time. I've never had Christmas with just me and DH...

kikisdelivery · 07/09/2016 17:56

True piano, especially about the being able to rest in my own bed with my own stuff around me Smile. The in-laws are lovely to be honest - they suggested coming over, bless them, but I thought I was putting everyone out. They've even suggested they can cook on christmas day if I want them to... I am a bit of a Hitler when it comes to my kitchen though, so I'll see how I feel!!

I am secretly kind of looking forward to it - I always wanted to host christmas, though circumstances might dictate how much I can do on the day!!

Shellbell0403 · 07/09/2016 19:53

Why are men arses?!

Carly6971 · 07/09/2016 20:02

Anyone else NOT feeling movement yet? Seems like everyone is and they are a couple of weeks behind me. I am 19 weeks today and think possibly over the past 3 weeks I have felt baby girl twice :( I saw her wriggling on the scan on Saturday and couldn't feel that either, think I am just having an irrational evening of panic!!

shell hope your ok. Men just don't get it do they? Sometimes I wonder how I am going to cope with a baby and a husband who more often than not acts like a petulant little child! Oh....and he is two days in to quitting smoking!! God help me!! Lol! What's yours been up to?

MarjorySunshineDust · 07/09/2016 21:10

Carly I'm not quite 19 weeks yet but not feeling much either, from what other people have said its normal at this stage. I do have days where I worry but think I will feel better when I have the second scan on 16th!

SBSparkles · 07/09/2016 21:25

Welcome 39up Smile and congratulations.
Am the same with movement - sort of feel it but the same confusion with trapped wind. I think it's normal!? 20 week scan in.....2 days!!!!! ShockShock bump suddenly feels bigger and kind of weird! Like I'm really pregnant! Re: insomnia - have slept really well since getting pregnancy pillow and hugging it. But the strange dreams have reappeared!!!

Carly6971 · 07/09/2016 21:29

Thanks sunshine I have read it's normal too just seems like everyone at 16 weeks etc is feeling regular movements and I still think I have only felt her twice. Checked with doppler tonight as was having a bit of a panic, even though I only saw her on Saturday lol! I can't wait until I feel movement daily, must be so reassuring. I think I panicked a bit as was back to work today after the summer and working in a preschool class it's very physical lots of up and down of the floor and was quite sore by the time I finished. Sure all is ok though and am just out of practice after the summer :)

Shellbell0403 · 07/09/2016 21:51

17+2 here and no movement felt yet.

Thanks Carly He's just being a tad inconsiderate and we had an argument and things were said. Just feeling abit down and teary xx

Mysterycat23 · 07/09/2016 22:26

Hello 39up and welcome!

Fenella how about a slip/petticoat type undergarment? I have a couple of slips from m & s, always wear them under work dresses and skirts to prevent VPL. Recommend the slightly pricier ones which are made of performance fabric, they are lovely and soft and don't go static or anything, adjustable straps. Think about £18 or maybe £20 each? They come in different lengths and colours. Can you tell I love them?! Grin

Naschkatze · 07/09/2016 22:35

Carly I've been thinking the same about movements but I'm only 15+5 with my first so I know it's too early really. Every now and again I notice something in that area and wonder if that was 'it' but I never know for sure! It's hard not to worry; I got the doppler out too this evening!

FlipperSkipper · 08/09/2016 07:33

Nasch I'm 15+6 today and have felt a couple of flutterings this week which are like nothing I'd normally feel. Everything I've read says it's too early for a first pregnancy though.

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 08/09/2016 09:25

I'm 18 weeks and am not feeling anything too.
I have an anterior placenta, but my midwife said last week I should still begin to feel something any time soon.
I was convinced I could feel some tickles last weekend, but nothing since!

SBSparkles · 08/09/2016 10:28

So at work my ta has just commented on how she forgot I was pregnant and my bump was small for saying I'm 5 months. Now I'm really worried!! Scan is tomorrow - what if something is wrong?

twocatsandatoddler · 08/09/2016 10:33

SBS bumps come in all shapes and sizes, don't worry! I'm massive at 19 weeks, but a friend is 10 days behind me with her third baby and doesn't even look noticeably pregnant.

Also, I wouldn't say we were 5 months yet. If you assume a month = 4 weeks, then pregnancy is 40 weeks = 10 months. If you use calendar months then I figure 20 weeks is half way through, so 4.5 months, so I'd say I was 4 months if anyone asked. Not that it matters, but it might make you feel better about your colleague's size expectations at 4 vs 5 months if you see what I mean.

Shellbell0403 · 08/09/2016 10:53

sparkles i don't really have a bump either, I went for a scan on Monday and the measurements were all for the right time etc.. I'm trying not to worry about the bump size.
This is my first pregnancy..

GinIsIn · 08/09/2016 11:05

17+5 here. I was worrying last night about not having felt movement and had a really vivid dream last night that I could feel it. I feel the occasional thing that might be it, might be nothing but it's my first so I really can't tell. Midwife said that with your first it can be up to 28 weeks before you feel it!

GinIsIn · 08/09/2016 11:07

I do have a significant bump, but as I am very hourglass so narrow around the waist I think there's just nowhere else for it all to go but out!

Bisquick · 08/09/2016 11:08

Had my first completely restless night. Just kept tossing and turning and couldn't get to sleep until 6.30 in the morning. Maybe I need to start looking into pregnancy pillows!
SBS bumps are really all different. I'm 16+6 and have quite an obvious bump, but a friend who's 2 weeks ahead of me has a barely-there bump now. I'm guessing, just based on the 2 of us, that it may also depend on how strong your ab muscles were before getting pregnant. I barely saw the inside of a gym, so understandably my abs have just given up at the first sign and gone on a 9 month holiday.
Good luck to everyone having scans soon! Mine's still 3+ weeks away, but hoping I start feeling movement soon.
