Also NHS here. With DS1 I had him at the main big consultant led hospital (brilliant, wish I'd stayed there!) then was transferred to the local MLU and stayed there for 2 nights. I was going stir crazy by day 2. Considering it was a tiny unit with just 2 other patients I barely saw a soul the whole time and had to repeatedly ask for painkillers, my Aunt bought me my own in the end! Food was eaten in the antenatal waiting room Confused and consisted of half a sandwich and half a packet of crisps plus an apple. I'd just given birth and was breastfeeding, I was starving!

With DS2 I'd planned a home birth with pool. Of course then I went into labour at 32 weeks and that went out the window. We have 2 large hospitals nearby and by then the nearer one had just had a brand new unit built and all consultant care/Neonatal care had bee moved there so he was born there. Was actually a lovely birth and I was lucky enough to be given a private postnatal room however the big PSAAG board had (NO BABY) next to my name which I could've done without seeing constantly. Also could've done without the Bounty Lady barging in and demanding to know where my baby was then tutting when I said intensive care and huffing 'well when will he be back!?' I just about managed to mumble 'well he's not due for another 2 months so who knows' but I was very close to telling her to piss off!

I was desperate to stay in that time (and the food was actually okay this time Grin ) so as not to be separated from my baby but I was turfed out after 3 days and then we went back and forth every day until DS was discharged after a months stay. With hindsight it did actually make sense for me to be at home, as awful as leaving felt at the time, DS1 needed me and it was much more comfortable expressing 10 times a day in my own home!

No idea where I plan to deliver this time. I constructed such thought out plans last time and then it all went out the window so I think I'll just be going with the flow this time and we'll see nearer to the time.

SharkBastard · 09/09/2016 14:14

I wore black PJ's with DD, kept all stains at bay and was very comfy ;) However, I wear black everyday like the aging goth I am!

choccybiscuit · 09/09/2016 14:20

I'll be consultant led I think. Pre-eclampsia with dd1 emcs and dd2 stopped moving, she had pooped inside me she was distressed, poor love, so emcs again. I think I'll go for a couple section with no emergency this time please! Grin

choccybiscuit · 09/09/2016 14:20

C not couple Smile

MrsBac83 · 09/09/2016 14:23

Has anyone else claimed their free 'Mum to be pack' yet from the folder you get at booking in appointment?
It says there's a voucher you can take along to Boots etc but unless I'm being daft (very possible!) I can't find the voucher. Is it in the free magazine? Please tell me which page if you've found it!!
The midwife didn't give me the actual bounty folder as I had already jumped the gun and bought a pretty folder to keep all my notes in but she did give me all the contents. Wondered if I'd missed something.

FYI bought my own folder as the others are so obvious what they are to anyone else that has seen them! Not planning on telling work yet but as midwife suggested notes should be carried everywhere I have them in my work bag along with my lunch. and ten tonne of snacks to get me through the day It wouldn't take long for anyone to spot it and know what it was. Not so now in the pretty turquoise folder! #Tinywin

MumiTravels · 09/09/2016 14:23

18 month old at a wedding - fail

He lasted 5 minutes at the church so we're sat at home waitng for reception to start.

I knew i should have put him in nursery and just taken him to reception but not sure DHs family would have agreed. Despite me being left with a wriggy toddler trying to escape.

Ho well. Cuppa soup and quavers then round 2.

jobrum · 09/09/2016 14:24

annilack april 2017ers are going to be the chicest postpartum women ever!

scandi that must have been so hard. I didn't have my Bounty photo (after I reluctantly took a pack and demanded no marketing) as when they came back round my dd was screaming as her head was stuck in a vest and I was crying and blood was leaking out of the iv for my transfusion and dripping all over her! They just pulled the curtain closed and carried on!

MonkeyArms · 09/09/2016 14:30

Giggling at the thought of finding myself in a bay full of women in matching black eBay silk pyjamas..... April 17 gangsters

JennyOfOldstones · 09/09/2016 15:59

I hated the postnatal ward too. Will pay for a room if there is one available, would be worth every penny. Ended up in a private room as DD had jaundice and wouldn't feed, it was horrible.

MrsRhubarb · 09/09/2016 16:40

God yes, I'd already decided I am wearing pyjamas post birth this time. I'm not a nightie person anyway, so I just felt weirdly exposed in my cheapy Primark one. It went in the bin as soon as I got home. I think I will treat myself to some glam ones this time, even though I will hopefully be in my own bed post birth.

MyGreenSofa · 09/09/2016 16:41

I paid for a private room on the post natal ward when I had DD. It doesn't increase the standard of care though which was still pretty bad but DH could stay at least. I would have hated being on a ward! I think every woman should have a private recovery room really. And the bounty women, don't get me started! DH had a right go at a HCA who refused to give us any formula and suggested he go and find a shop at 3am.

Word of advice for any first time mums - even if you're planning to breastfeed go in with bottles & formula just in case. Things don't always go to plan and it's much easier than relying on what the hospital can spare you!

Had booking appt this morning! All went well. So far so good!

Helbelle75 · 09/09/2016 17:01

Eek, not thought as far ahead as the birth yet. Good tip about pyjamas.
I'll be at the local hospital and probably consultant led because of my age. Had my booking in yesterday and am low risk apart from that though. Scan date through for 30th September. Spot on 12 weeks.
Sorry if tmi, but I've had really bad diarrhea today. Nearly had to run out of a class it came upon me so quickly! Anyone else suffer and have any tips?

Number4OnTheWay · 09/09/2016 17:10

Its sicky hour here. Every day :( I'm managing through the day but come 5pm its like my body gives up. Its not like I have 3 other kids to feed or anything Hmm luckily dh is working from home today so is making dinner while I'm heaving in the corner. Urgh. I hate this time of day. The evenings are just the worst.

Superbabywright · 09/09/2016 18:13

I haven't been on for about a week or so x So sorry if I have missed anything but I hope you are all well.
I'll be consultant led due to my bmi being high.
Black silk pj's seem intriguing. Although I do remember with DD that the ward was boiling. Obviously to keep the newborns warm. So pj's were too hot but I felt very exposed in my Nightie.

So with me the nausea has gone a new level in the past few days. I feel like I am going to be sick everytime something passes my lips. Meals, snacks, drinks. I just had a small bite of something and now I feel like I just want to vomit. It certainly wasn't like this with my last pregnancy. Granted it was nearly 6 years ago but I remember feeling a bit icky on the morning but then breakfast sorted me out. This time I feel ill before eating, during eating and after eating. I fear that one day i'll open my mouth to speak and it will just projectile out my mouth. Bleurgh.

Celen · 09/09/2016 18:21

I had black cotton pj's last time from Asda. They weren't maternity ones, but a size up with elasticated waist for stretch. They were fab Smile

gemsbok · 09/09/2016 18:44

Yay to all the happy scan news!

I did pjs last time, I just don't feel comfy in a nighty!

I also paid for a private room - only actually 1 night as I gave birth in the middle of the night before that, best 80 quid I ever spent! DP couldn't stay with me overnight though and got sent home at about 9pm. Care was awful till a shift change overnight and a fantastic midwife came in, and gave me some amazing pain killers and spent some time with me listening to me. Finally.

I'll be mw led, but have an extra appointment to discuss vbac vs section and I'll just be going to my nearest Nhs hospital.

Hope the nausea is ok for you all. I feel like I can see an end in sight at 11 weeks tomorrow, bring on the 2nd trimester, seeing a scan and that everything is ok in there, and feeling a bit more human again!

SussexTeacher · 09/09/2016 18:48

Hope everyone is doing well. I'm already in my pj's on the sofa watching Jeremy Kyle! I would probably have been at the pub 2 months ago!

jpeg28 · 09/09/2016 18:55

Sorry to everyone with bad sickness and nausea! My OH has food poisoning so he's been throwing up since the end of school!! I keep saying its sympathy sickness!

Great advice on the PJs I'll definitely get some button up black ones!!

Sussex I would have been the same, left school at 4 as felt so sick, I used to be first in and last out!

SharkBastard · 09/09/2016 18:56

I'm in my pj's (have been since 4:45pm), watching 'Mistresses' whilst DD is outside playing and DH at the gym.

I'm slowly making my way through a piece of Cottage Pie. This nausea really is shitty

Niks2026 · 09/09/2016 19:00

I'm with all the ladies with the horrendous nausea. My GP gave me some anti-sickness tablets. They've helped a little.
I find if I eat what I fancy then it stays down. Problem is it is hard to figure out what I want. My poor DH is running round after me bless him. I've just decided I want an omelette for dinner. We had no eggs so he's popped out to get some Smile love him!
I'm still waiting for the midwife to get in touch and for a scan date to come through.
I ordered some maternity jeans/trousers for work and at home because mine were already uncomfortable! Thank goodness for stretchy jeans!
First week back in school has been exhausting. Glad I've not for much on this weekend. Hope all you teachers out there didn't have too much of a rough first week back. How did you tell yours head teachers you were pregnant? Formally, informally?

jpeg28 · 09/09/2016 19:02

I haven't said anything yet niks but I'm wondering if I should as I need time off for my next booking appt in a couple of weeks. What have you done?? I'm so scared to tell anyone!!

naranciata · 09/09/2016 19:29

They have some lovely dark Paisley patterned maroony button up grandad pyjamas in John Lewis. Is this what I'll need?

Currently having nursery dilemma. DH and I disagree strongly.

Our house is three floors. Ground floor is kitchen, downstairs loo and lounge/diner with French doors to back garden. Middle floor is main bathroom, miniature bedroom 4 (we use it as a laundry room, last people used it as an office) and HUGE bedroom 2 (some other houses in the same pattern use it as a second recep room). Top floor is master with en suite and bedroom 3 - medium size.

I think that this baby (how do I refer to it?!) should have the huge bedroom 2 (when he/she moves to own room) which would then hopefully act as some sort of containment area for toys etc as house is tall and thin so not much room downstairs. Also, whether we're in our room or downstairs then there will only be one flight of stairs to reach nursery. DH thinks it should be top floor bedroom 3 as then in middle of night we'll only have to stumble across hallway rather than down stairs.

Ideas? I know it's way too early but I'm itching to start looking for decorating ideas.

SussexTeacher · 09/09/2016 19:35

niks & jpeg I told my headteacher and deputy head but just said I haven't told my team or line manager so asked him to keep it to himself which he said he would. I needed him to sign my absence form so didn't want to lie about it especially if I was going to come back after the scan and tell him anyway, probably even if it was bad news.

I'm bloody exhausted. I'm hoping this nausea calms down once we all enter the second tri!

jpeg28 · 09/09/2016 19:48

I'm only 8 weeks so I'm worried it's too soon? I am good friends with my deputy head so I might tell her Monday and see what she says. I've just put doctors app on my absence request for my next midwife appointment. I don't like lying but I really don't want my department to know. I'm just worried something will go wrong and I'll have to tell them all... Roll on 12 weeks!!

TopKittyKat · 09/09/2016 19:51

Ooooh I'm getting in on the black PJs. Fantastic tip!

I've been wearing some of those wrist band pressure point today and (touch wood) they seem to be working. It may well be all psychological but I don't care as long as I feel better!

I'm off on hols for a week so will catch up with the thread when I'm back.

I hope everyone has s good week ahead!
