Tommy · 16/02/2007 08:57

Morning all

Well, after a day yesterday of thinking things were getting going and nothing happened....I think I've had a bit of a show this morning so I'm feeling all optimistic again.

It would be great if it happened today (preferable this evening when the DSs are asleep), beginning of the weekend and half term next week so don't have to worry about getting them to school and having my teacher family all available to look after me!

Hope the rest of you are doing OK today

ja9 · 16/02/2007 09:00

Good luck ChaCha hope everyhting goes smoothly for you.

Congrats to Bouncyminky - great news.

Well i'm feeling a good bit better. Got Ranitadine prescribed by doctor. Made heartburn vanish and haven't ben sick since i started taking it on wednesday night - which meant i was able to enjoy lovely valentines meal . Not feeling tip top today though. Had runs this morning (sorry if tmi) and heading back to bed. DS booked into nursery for a full day as i'm meant to be on a course today - but don't feel i can make it.

Really feel baby should have come by today because in laws coming over for weekend from eire and because dh is now off on half term fri / mon. Feels like wasted time off with no baby to coo over!

Anyways....

CurrantBun · 16/02/2007 10:30

Gosh, so many babies born in my absence! Was too busy in my final weeks at work to post but great to see so many of you have delivered - congratulations to all new mums and new arrivals! I'm due on 26th and no sign of action yet ...

Lots of Valentine babies too - how lovely

I've been doing loads of cooking to stock the freezer in readiness for the first couple of weeks. Have pretty much organised the nursery now and have washed and ironed some of the baby's clothes to put in my hospital bag. Also ordered nursing bra and changing bag yesterday, which will hopefully arrive within the next few days. The baby can arrive any time it likes after tomorrow - final pre-birth visit to hairdresser to get my colour done and have a cut and blow dry: don't want to look minging in the baby's first photos!!

Have to say I still feel fantastic - loads of energy, sleeping relatively well considering, and have had no problems at any point with pregnancy 'nasties' like heartburn, piles, varicose veins, fatigue, anaemia etc. I have a horrible feeling that I'll pay for having sailed through my pregnancy with a really traumatic birth - seriously hope not though!

Hope everyone still awaiting the arrival of their little bundle of joy is well.

Alocin · 16/02/2007 16:20

Welcome all new arrivals! Hard to keep up!

Saw consultant and had growth scan this morning - this young man is currently estimated at 9lbs 10oz ! Head now 2/5s engaged, and have agreed to come into hospital for birth if I go into labour naturally, as quite frankly the thought of trying to push that out at home terrifies me! Seemed to be open to the idea of elective cs if no more engagement and heading for induction. Wish me luck!

Bienchen · 16/02/2007 17:13

Alocin - don't forget that the growth scans can be quite inaccurate, they can be up to 30% out or so my mw suggested. In the end, go with whatever feels right for you, so if you feel more at ease at hospital. It's the baby's head measurements that count rather than overall weight.

CurrantBun · 16/02/2007 19:05

I've heard that about growth scans too, Bienchen, and I think they cause so much worry that if they're that inaccurate, I wonder why they do them. Fair enough to check that the baby is growing properly but as an indication of eventual birth weight they can be 1-2lb out - which is a huge margin when you're talking about a baby.

Even two different midwives have estimated my baby's likely birthweight completely differently. One thought the baby was already about 6lb at my 35 week appointment; the other said at my 37 week appointment that it's going to be a small baby and unlikely to be more than 6.5lb at birth. So who knows? It'll be what it is - although as I'm tiny myself I'm hoping it's not going to be too big. However, it's the head circumference that's the important measurement, not the overall size (not sure that helps though!)

Alocin · 16/02/2007 19:23

Looks up notes ....

head circumference is 360mm - which appears to be within the grey area of the chart, phew!

Whaddya reckon? Can I push it out?! What if they've underestimated the weight?!

peachygirl · 16/02/2007 19:36

HI long time no posting Congratluation everyione whose baby' have arrived. My DD Maya Peach arrived on 13th Feb at 3:11 Pm . She is a tiny dot 5lb 9, not an emergency C section but not on the day it was all planned. I did lose my waters and experienced contractions.
She is lovely and we are besotted with her. I have her currently in the Coorie sling Hooray!!!
We are finally home from the hospital after having wories about feeding dehydration and jaundice, I have sadly had to resort to bottles for a while to get her going - 2 hourly feeds . In fact they gave me an ultimatum in the hospital (do it or she goes to SCBU)
She is still interested in the breast and I am going to get a pump to express and have been doing it by hand too.
Thanks for all your good wishes and we will catch up tomorrow. Love to all

MoosMa · 16/02/2007 19:45

Alocin, I think average head size is 35cm, so 36 isn't that huge, and you're right it's head size that matters more than weight. DD was a beast to get out but that was because her head was a whopping 37.5cm, however she only weighed 7lb 9.5oz which really isn't that big.

Good luck and I hope you get the birth you want at the time!

Congratulations Peachy!

Cadbury · 16/02/2007 20:04

Hello everyone. Sorry it's taken a while to get to post on here, but we are delivered of a little girl - she is gorgeous and we are terribly smitten.

I have been trying to find a moment to post the details but it has elluded me so far since she was born.

Well, as you know, early labour started on her due date (6th) and carried on with contractions for hours at a time before petering out for over a week. On several occasions, I was sure that this was it but all of that contracting had only got me to 3cms dilated. On Tuesday 13th, I woke up with pretty strong contractions again and they lasted about 4-5 hours. Later that afternoon, my (poor, longsuffering) midwife came round and did a sweep (the 3rd one I've had in a week) and this time it worked and carried on working!

She stayed with me for the next 2 hours or so to make sure things were kicking off (she also helped me sort the kids out while I was having contractions). At 6.50, I had got to 5 cms and she broke my waters. From that moment, there was no stopping me. Dh came home about then, and the 2nd midwife arrived (a good friend, like the 1st midwife) and shortly after, my friend Tanya (training midwife) arrived as did my parents to put the kids to bed. I got into the bath for a while but started to feel pressure and knew it wouldn't be long before I needed to push.

At about 8.30pm, when the kids were in bed in the next room, I asked my folks to go home (and upset my mother in the process apparantely ) and started the gas and air as the contractions were incredibly strong and with very little space between them. The Tens, which had been on since the bath was really not terribly useful by this stage and back rubbing was just rubbing me up the wrong way. I got onto the floor and leaned over the gym ball and expected that the midwife would want to examine me - I really wanted to know how far along I was and with the history of the previous week fresh in my mind, was convinced that she'd tell me I was only 6cms or something like that with hours to go. She said she didn't want to and to just go with what my body was telling me to do (This was at 9pm). It was telling me to push like crazy. So I did - about 5 times and out she came (9.05pm). All in one go - it was rather a surprise. She started crying straight away and came for a feed as soon as I could turn over. She feeds like a natural! Had the injection for the 3rd stage (which was just as well considering what happened later) and all was well with that.

After I was cleaned up, we realised that I was bleeding heavily - they thought the womb wasn't contracting properly and that was the casue so I had another dose of syntomet-whatever it's called but was still bleeding heavily after that. They thought I had only had a small labial graze from the birth but after a while of careful looking by the midwives, they realise that I had many more tears internally and high up. So, they had to do the surgery on my bed with an angle poise lamp. They didn't get to go home until 4 hours after the birth. Thankfully it worked - I'm so glad they felt brave enough to do the surgery themselves because they were talking about a blue light trip to the hospital - and after getting my homebirth, that was the last thing I wanted! It turns out that they are fantastic seamstresses and will be first on my list if I ever need alterations to clothing. I couldn't have been more blessed with them - they made a fantastic team.

So, after all that, my baby girl is settling in to life on the outside well - she is beautiful of course, but thn I am biased.

She weighed 7 lb 12oz and has been called Aimie Flora Grace. Her brother and sister are getting used to her and think she is very cute.

Sorry about the long post and the gorey information.

I'm going to go back and read everyone elses news now, while I have a chance.

snugglebunny · 16/02/2007 20:06

Hi all.

Released from hospital today. Our beautiful baby boy, Arren John was born on the 13th weighing 7lb 4oz. C-section was a wonderful, stress-free, amazing experience! Very little pain and was up and about emptying my own catheter after 4 hours! (so dont always believe everything you read about how long the recovery is!!)

So proud and in awe of our little creation. Good luck to those of you still waiting to meet your special little ones!

Catch you on the birth announcement threads!

ja9 · 16/02/2007 21:38

thelittlestboho · 16/02/2007 22:02

Just a quickie, Noa arrived bang on her due date, one of the rare 5% who do. I would never have guessed she'd be punctual! 9lbs 10z, no pain relief,no swearing, lol,and no tears or stitches. We arrived at hospital 2.10am and she popped out 4.15am.Cut that one a bit fine, haha. We were back home in the morning by 11. She's got loads of long blonde hair, and she's a wee cracker. I'll write more in a bit. Congrats to everyone else and good hopes for the ladies-still-in-waiting.

Katrina,x

Bienchen · 17/02/2007 06:37

Congrats to Peachy, Snugglebunny, TLB and Cadbury. Totally agree with MrsJC re delightful stories, especially TLB with a wee whopper and no pain relief. There is hope for the rest of us.

Cadbury, sorry to hear you needed extra repairs, just as well you had such excellent midwives.

Ja9, hope we are getting our homebirths.

I'm well miffed - had to get up during the night thinking it was about 3pm and it was 11:33 - doh! I bet some of you were not even in bed then . I'm just more comfortable upright but that's not condusive to sleep... Enjoy the weekend!!

SmudgeMum · 17/02/2007 08:54

Peachygirl, Cadbury, Snugglebunny, littlestboho congratulations all. Good to see the boy/girl balance is getting more even. Lovely names all of them. I keep thinking how wonderful that all these new beings are coming into the world and what a special thing to share. [emotional emoticon!]
Peachygirl I hope you manage to feed in the way that you want. It sounds like you're quite determined so good luck with the expressing.
Cadbury glad you got the birth that you wanted and that you were able to stay at home. LOL about the seamstress skills - maybe you could suggest it them as a byline! I keep being congratulated on the 'lovely job' that the doctor did which makes me smile every time (in a grimace kind of way whilst someone is poking around up there!)
Snugglebunny glad you're recovering so well and congratulations on getting home. Don't forget to take it easy and make everyone else wait on you hand and foot whilst you enjoy your LO!
Littlestboho - that's a good weight! no pain relief and no stitches , well done you! Maybe she's decided that she's going to be an on-time person and can't be doing with any time wasting at all (hence quick arrival on due date)
Bienchen, I think I was up at 11.45 feeding DS. I'd gone to bed at 10pm and felt like it was about 3am too. It took me ages to work out what was happening so think I must have been quite deeply asleep. Just think soon you'll be able to sleep much more comfortably - just your LO won't let you
Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend and gets lots of rest. Hope we hear about some more babies soon!

leahsmum · 17/02/2007 10:36

Hi all just a very quick post. Baby Sophie arrived on Thursday evening at 11.52 pm - after a very speedy delivery!! In the delivery room 17mins and 4 pushes!!

Will post all details later when I have more time. Weighed a very healthy 7lb 4oz!

Gorgous!

Congratulations to all the new mummies and babies over the last few days - I will read all and catch up later.

MoosMa · 17/02/2007 10:49

Hello all, congratulations to the ones with new LOs - I'm losing track now!

I'm still here despite having lots of aches etc for the last 2 days. She's due today and all has gone quiet again...

time4tea · 17/02/2007 10:53

congratulations all! wonderful to hear the birth stories... Peachy, if you've had a difficult start with BF, don't worry, and just try to get hold of a bf clinic, failing that, I can really recommend a book by Clare Byam Cook called "What to express when BF, and what if you can't" full of positive and practical tips and not guilt inducing. Wish I had been more switched on first time round, had a very gungho woman who came to our NCT class and made it sound like a breeze and it so wasn't! I was in the same situation as you in the hosp, and really resented it: no bf counsellor, rubbish midwives bullying, and in the end, lots of pumping for months because it was badly handled at the start... but it can be remedied, if you are still struggling, don't beat yourself up! [sorry, have probably projected all my feelings from first time round on you... the thing always to remember is that having a healthy child is everything, however they are fed! don't let anyone make you feel bad...]

am in last stages of tidying/washing clothes, pukemops etc from first time round. Still in denial about Monday! can't imagine meeting this baby for real, and worrying about how DS will cope, v clinging right now with stuffy nose. at least now DH is home and now we are surfing together the last waves before monday

enjoy your lovely babies

time4tea · 17/02/2007 10:55

preggy brain - the book is called "What to expect.." not what to express, freudian slip caused by 4 months of pumping milk, sterilising bottles, carrying around my pumping kit in a funny black plastic mini-suitcase like James Bond kit.. I really recommend the book!

peachygirl · 17/02/2007 11:24

thanks time4tea ,I have BF book calld best feedin and had a lovely BF counsellor in the hosp but she didn't work on friday when everything happened. She gave nme an cup to expressinto and rang me from home the next day.
Maya had a good Bf before bed last nght and another this morning snd 3 bottles through the night. The midwife will be here tomorrow and I will talk to her about it all too and then get in touch with the NCT. In fact I can drop into the hospital for clinic every day which is very close to home (taxi cost only £4) so may go in there too. Don't worry about projection I wish I had approched it a bit more flexibly, what ever we do it will be OK.

It so great to hrear everyones stories I will post a birth announcement at some point soon and a picture too.

SmudgeMum · 17/02/2007 12:04

Congrats Leahsmum, what a quick one and a lovely name. Good luck with things happening Moosma and hope all goes well on Mon Timefortea. You're doing a great job with the stats people. When someone next does it, we've finally got full name for DS - Dominic Marcus.

forgottenfreetime · 17/02/2007 13:56

Wow congrats to peachy, leahsmum, littlest and snugglebunny! Sorry if I've missed anyone out - I'm finding it hard to keep up. Good to hear that your midwives were so capable Cadbury and you were able to be repaired at home! Had an awful day yesterday after ?food poisoning thurs night - just felt exhausted. better today though. Bub show no signs of moving I think I'm going to go from one extreme to the other - early to late! Not even due for another 10 days but all the news of babies is making me impatient! DH is working about 2 hours away today and tomorrow and has already phoned twice to make sure everything is ok - he's now frightened that baby will come before he can get back and has given me about 6 phone numbers just in case he doesn't hear his own mobile! I'm undecided whether I'd like baby sooner or later now - sooner - no more spd, heartburn etc., when baby lets you sleep you sleep so well. On the other hand if theres no baby mon tues and weds I can get loads of niggly jobs done while ds at childcare!

MoosMa · 17/02/2007 16:43

I've walked 2.5 miles for the last 3 days and DH and I actually managed some sex the last 2 nights (having only done it about 3 times since August that's quite a big deal!), but still nothing is happening. I'll have to get a move on now to get her out on my due date!

Now that the EDD has arrived I've started my countdown again, assuming I'm induced at 40+12 I know I have no more than 12 days to go, and even if I don't get the HB I want, at least the end is in sight!
