Starting a fresh new thread for us!

I think Fedup asked about Elderberries and if anyone had heard from her... I haven't seen her name pop up in a while, but I'm not on the FB group either. I've been wondering the same about almondbutter, haven't seen her on here for a while now and know she was really suffering with sickness.

We've just packed our bags too Jade, scary! Also my little one was head down at the last appointment but I also think he may have moved, I'm feeling all sorts of lumps and bumps in both my sides and hips!

Got another appointment now, going to find out what he is up to and if he's still head down I'm going to take the advice I was given at my NCT class to start leaning forward when I sit down, rather than leaning back, to help him engage! Hope you're all having a good monday. I've given up on sleeping now but luckily I'm on ML so I can laze around during the day. I have the worst heartburn all the way up to my throat - i'll be asking my MW if I can have Gaviscon. Has anyone else had heartburn and found something safe that worked?! x

helenatroy · 03/10/2016 16:20

I peel and eat a Granny Smith apple and that sorts heartburn out for me. Have also stopped having heavy food after 18,00. Like you I don't want to take anything that might upset the baby. Am raring lighter and trying to stick to alkaline food. It works for me. I wandered off the path Saturday and Sunday and suffered overnight for it.

FuzzyOwl · 03/10/2016 16:22

The only thing that helps my heartburn is omeprazole which my doctor prescribes.

I need to pack my hospital bag (one for the baby has been done) and make sure I am ready. Only a few more weeks to go now.

helenatroy · 03/10/2016 16:25

Eating lighter.

Spottyladybird · 03/10/2016 16:49

Littleand often eating helps my heartburn but in the evening Gaviscon is the only thing that will help!

Keep getting things out to put in my bag but haven't actually started packing yet. Need to get on 35w this week and finishing work on Thursday!

EllieM22 · 03/10/2016 16:54

Great, thanks for the heartburn advice ladies I will try all of that!

Baby was head down, engaged and 4/5 palpable apparently. So does that mean only 1/5 engaged then? I'm 34 weeks today so happy with that anyway but glad he is showing signs of being ready to be born, mama is very uncomfortable

mrsdane · 03/10/2016 17:07

Ellie I'm a gaviscon addict after being told it was OK. It is MAGIC and I now wouldn't be without it, having never had it before in my life! Also, apparently the 1/5 or 4/5 thing can vary by midwife, depending on which way round they explain things, so I would just ask them to explain exactly what it is they mean. I've given up second guessing them and they must think I'm thick but I ask really basic questions of my MW all the time!

I've got my flu jab tomorrow and am in the midst of NCT - pain relief options tonight, which should be interesting.

Snuzpod has been constructed, with Sleepyhead on top. It's almost as if there's a baby about to arrive....

RosyP13 · 03/10/2016 17:57

I find a glass of milk often helps with the heartburn, but when I doesn't, gaviscon does the trick. Also avoiding sugary foods helps loads, which is tricky when I'm craving chocolate so much at the mo!

Finally on reduced duties (doing TA role instead of teacher) at work as of today, so hopefully I'll survive the next three weeks! I actually found the energy to stay an do paperwork for an hour tonight!

Baby still very small (under 5th centile) and breech, but still time to grow and turn so they're continuing with just monitoring her for now. Possibility of c-section though, which would probably be THIS MONTH - terrifying!

bobcat85 · 03/10/2016 18:59

I've unfortunately not found any cure for heartburn yet, I've tried milk every evening which takes the edge off of it.

I've partially packed my hospital bag, just need to organise it a bit better. Need to get husband to pack his one and pick up some snacks and pieces. I've packed one for baby but again need to organise it.

34 weeks tomorrow, have my midwife appointment on Thursday so hoping she can tell me the position baby is in. Although not worrying too much until 36 weeks.

FuzzyOwl · 03/10/2016 19:03

My understanding is that milk makes heartburn worse in the long run. Whilst it temporarily helps, it then increases acid production and makes heartburn worse.

helenatroy · 03/10/2016 19:14

All the baby's stuff is packed. Mine partially packed as a lot of the things I need for my four night stay are the things I love and use all the time. On another note do any of you have any suggestions for playlists for hospital? And or nice healthy snacks that will last?

Ionacat · 03/10/2016 21:46

I took a couple of boxes of cereal bars last time in case either OH or I were hungry, they proved very useful at night on the post natal ward. I haven't even thought about a hospital bag. Nothing is ready here and everyone at work thinks I'm going to drop before half term! I'm relying on half term to get everything sorted.
Baby is still transverse, I can feel its head by my ribs. Lots of hanging over a ball, and hanging off the sofa. Oh so elegant!

Fedupithink · 04/10/2016 07:59

I have made a poor start on packing my hospital bag but find most stuff will have to be done last minute as I use them everyday. I did buy a selection of the travel size toiletries for it tho to save space and I've written the lists for me/DH/baby.

Has anyone looked into hiring a tens machine? I'm interested but find it a bit odd to hire something like that as its used and lots of reviews on Mothercare seem to suggest they are quite old with worn out buttons etc. Not ideal.

Ellie I'm suffering with heartburn but find the chewable Rennies really help.

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 04/10/2016 09:03

I think my hospital bag is now pretty much done, abs I discussed with my head of department yesterday about finishing on Friday and she's happy with it so it's all go! Still trying to get hold of someone who can answer some/any of my questions about how to work this giving birth miles away situation... no luck so far!

DuckWaddle · 04/10/2016 10:01

I found the tens machine really helpful for early labour but borrowed one of a friend. You can get them cheaply second hand and you'll just need to get new pads.
Little grey- I'm really pleased you're able to finish fri and I hope you finally get some more input on where to give birth

salemtheteenagecat · 04/10/2016 10:11

I have just ordered a tens machine online for less then £20 really good reviews it's getting sent out to be tomorrow where I will be 36 weeks and I have 7 weeks to use it. Hopefully it's easy to use etc Smile

Bollyroo · 04/10/2016 12:36

LittleGrey, that's great news.

I think I've decided against a tens machine. It seems very strange that they don't just have them in hospitals anyway. A friend highly recommended tens but it's a bit too much hassle hiring one and returning it.

Does anyone have any tips on breast pumps? I just want one as a backup and to express occasionally assuming everything goes well with breastfeeding. The electric ones seem expensive. Is hand pumping as exhausting as it sounds?

Fedupithink · 04/10/2016 17:13

Which one did you get Salem?

As for the breast pump, I got an Avent electric one in the tesco parenting event with a third off. I think it was about £75. It had good reviews and as I'm not sure how feeding will go I figured it would be easier to sell on a brand name if it's not needed.

EllieM22 · 04/10/2016 17:30

Great news LittleGreyCat!

Well the heartburn has gone. I got DH to bring home gaviscon last night. I am already sold! Slept through the whole night without heartburn once and still none today, kicking myself I didn't try it sooner.

Tens machines - I've heard you either love it or hate it, so I don't want to buy or rent one incase it doesn't do it for me. Might see if a friend has an old one.

Having a bit of a freak out today. 34+1 so 6-8 weeks to go. We are completely prepared and I'm off work so having very relaxed days, but I still feel like it's all coming up a bit soon. I was really looking forward to labour and trying to have my natural hypnobirthing waterbirth in a midwife led unit, but today I have started to dread labour and be terrified of it! Normal third trimester freak out perhaps? Wanted to feel calm and excited for the last month or so, not terrified. The good news is that when i told my MW i was terrified of being induced at 42 weeks she said it was unlikely he'd be that late as he's already head down and a nice size. And I've already started with the period pain type braxton hicks. Not sure whether there is much truth to that though?

How are you all feeling about the birth? I feel prepared for bringing baby home but just not getting him here in the first place, ahh!!

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 04/10/2016 18:01

That's good news littlegrey, I hope you get some answers soon too!

Ellie at the moment I'm feeling okay about birth. I wasn't able to do the full hypnobirthing course (it just wouldn't work with childcare for DD) but I have been reading the book and listening to the CD and it's made me feel a bit better. I have a horrible feeling that that won't last until the actual day arrives though...

EllieM22 · 04/10/2016 18:29

muffy we didn't do the course either, but read a book, made our own scripts and practice them a lot! I also made a little scrapbook to look at with positive affirmations and some nice photos and the scripts and breathing techniques to refer to!

Hopefully we'll be both have nice calm births Smile

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 04/10/2016 18:31

That sounds lovely Ellie. Fingers crossed!
