Starting a fresh new thread for us!

I think Fedup asked about Elderberries and if anyone had heard from her... I haven't seen her name pop up in a while, but I'm not on the FB group either. I've been wondering the same about almondbutter, haven't seen her on here for a while now and know she was really suffering with sickness.

I'm almost 34 weeks but baby is measuring just 29 in length. Also breech, so possibility of early c-section. They want to do a late amniocentesis because of small size, but I can't decide whether to go ahead with it or not.

Also struggling with tiredness and breathlessness. I don't know how I can be so tired yet sleep so badly!

On a positive note, school are moving me to a different class next week, so hopefully work won't be quite so tiring and stressful.

No Braxton Hicks yet; I actually really want to feel them as I'm so intrigued!

AyeAmarok · 28/09/2016 21:44

At 32 weeks i was measuring 2 weeks too small, my midwife says they consider anything +/-2 to be totally normal. I'm quite small so I assume it's just that!

tired when I started taking iron I found it helped within about a week or two. But after a month, I started getting some pretty alarming side effects (lots of bleeding from deep inside my bum Blush sorry for TMI) so stopped taking it. If that happens to you, don't panic.

Anyone else's baby hiccupping constantly? Mine gets them several times a day. I googled and some websites said it was a bad sign if it occurs this frequently and it might mean the cord is round baby's neck and can cause stillbirth, so call the hospital so they can check you. Other websites said it's totally fine and nothing to worry about. I called the hospital to make sure it was no biggie, and midwife told me not to be ridiculous and it was just hiccups, could feel the Hmm face down the phone. So that's me told!

FuzzyOwl · 28/09/2016 23:13

I disagree with your midwife Aye and whilst I am sure 99 times out of 100 a baby hiccuping is just that, it can be something that is worth being checked out (although I have never heard about the cord being round the neck as a cause). Can you speak to your regular midwife at your next appointment?

I found the side effects of the iron tablets worse than anaemia but you can get a gentler type if that helps anyone.

AyeAmarok · 29/09/2016 09:16

I think I will Fuzzy, thanks. I have an appointment next week with my normal midwife so I'll mention it to her too.

I actually cried when I got off the phone as she made me feel like such an idiot. I wasn't even phoning in a panic, it was literally "I have seen 10 websites that say it's a serious problem and 10 that say it's totally fine, so just wanted to confirm it's fine?"

She launched into "what nonsense have you been reading, what on earth did you Google to bring that up (I said I googled foetal hiccups constantly at 33 weeks), made some scoff about Mumsnet forums and said I should only be reading medical based pages (I was! Which I tried to say) and that she hadn't heard of hiccups being a problem in 20 years of midwifery.

But there are medical-looking websites that say it's a problem, so I'm definitely going to say to the other midwife too for a second opinion.

helenatroy · 29/09/2016 09:27

There's one midwife at my hospital
Like that. She talks down to everyone but appears thick as shit herself. I avoid her like the plague and have said to one of the nice girls on the desk that I don't want her near me and I'd rather wait all day than see her. I get the impression she's the weak link there. Sadly those miserable women slip through the net everywhere. Do say something as its her job to calm our fears not make us feel like numties.

Bollyroo · 29/09/2016 11:19

Aye, I just don't understand how some in the medical profession think they can get away with these kinds of remarks. Don't they know how emotional we can be?! I think everything we say should be taken seriously and they should do there best to make us feel reassured and confident. DH read the other day that the umbilical cord is covered in really slippery stuff that is supposed to help stop knots and twists forming. That made me feel a lot better.

Last day at work for me tomorrow thank goodness. Big respect to everyone pushing on beyond 34 weeks, specially the teachers. At least I've been able to get stuck into reports and spreadsheets. Can't imagine having to be motivational in front of a bunch of kids.

AyeAmarok · 29/09/2016 17:21

It's probably partly to do with me feeling a bit sensitive at the moment, but I really did feel like a silly school girl getting told off by a teacher that doesn't know you

Bolly that is reassuring about the slippery cord!

Spottyladybird · 29/09/2016 17:35

3 more days at work here! Really struggling to find the energy at the moment especially with behaviour management.

34 weeks today. Bonkers that I'll be full term in 3 weeks!

bobcat85 · 29/09/2016 17:50

As baby is not breathing and therefore not taking in oxygen, the cord being wrapped around the neck does not cause any problems while the baby is in the womb. The only potential problem is when there is a kink in the cord and even at birth it may not be an issue. This is from the midwife at our NCT course. So I wouldn't worry, of course that's easier said than done.

Fedupithink · 30/09/2016 07:39

I had my first NCT lass last night, I liked it but my DH was not a fan. I hope this weekends session is a bit more involved for him as we did cover a lot of context like the options for where to give birth even though everyone there had done the tours and made those decisions as far as you can before actual labour.

Meeting my manager this morning to discuss cutting right back over my last two weeks or I'm at risk of being signed off.

I feel like I've handled pregnancy well so far but this past couple of weeks have been hard. More disturbed sleep, heartburn, carpal tunnel, two small bleeds and an immense amount of stress about work on top of crazy commuting.

I'm never one to go off sick or not finish my work so I'm finding the prospect of both really daunting. Wish me luck!

Bollyroo · 30/09/2016 11:35

Hope it goes well with your manager Fedup. Sounds like a bit of a roller coaster for you recently. Why isn't there a good luck emoticon?!

EllieM22 · 30/09/2016 13:51

Hi everyone, can I join? Due 14/11 so nearly 34 weeks. Already a little bit fed up. Constantly worrying that baby doesn't move for a while, but then he has a crazy few hours, then all goes quiet again. Also he is head down but i think he keeps moving, sometimes he sticks his back and bum out and my bump is hard, sometimes its squishy so i think he has twisted, then he goes back to bum out again!

I went through a phase where he had hiccups 5 times a day for about 20 mins at a time. I eventually insisted on being monitored because of this and he was fine! Its down to 1/2 times a day now but none of the midwives i have seen are concerned so just trying not to worry too much about it!

tiredmumrighthere · 30/09/2016 15:55

Welcome Ellie, we're due date twins lol I'm having a girl do you know the sex?

I get the same bum out the bump too it's really weird and so uncomfortable Shock is this your first?

tiredmumrighthere · 30/09/2016 15:56

Good luck fedup Smile

EllieM22 · 30/09/2016 16:21

Oh how exciting to meet a due date twin! Yes we're having a boy and it's our first! Is your little girl your first?

I'm so excited to meet him and I'm worried the next couple months will drag worse than the first 12 weeks did!

tiredmumrighthere · 30/09/2016 17:11

Oh wow congratulations Smile erm no this is my 5th lol already have a son and 3 daughters!

I think your the only one who shares the same due date as me so it'll be exciting to see who gives birth first Grin

This pregnancy has flown by for me but that's probably because I'm run off my feet at home with the others

Hope your well? X

Fedupithink · 30/09/2016 17:57

Hi Ellie I'm due on the 12th and having a little girl.

Thanks for the good vibes Bolly and Tired. Meeting went really well, I am kind of done now! I've got about two days worth of work to do to tie up some loose ends which I'll do from home and that's it. I'm only going back to London once more for my leaving lunch and a final goodbye and handover which so the next two weeks should be pretty plain sailing. It feels weird tho, just like I'm getting ready to go on holiday for a week!

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 30/09/2016 18:47

Hi Ellie. I'm sure my 2nd girl on 13th.
Sounds like a productive day Fedup. I'm so ready to finish work but still have 3 weeks left Sad.

Had a really unproductive midwife appointment yesterday. She's lovely but couldn't answer any of my questions about how I cope with a possible 2.5 hour journey in labour, if I can get any help at the local hospital with judging when to go, who will now be in charge of my care (obviously she doesn't think it's her as she saw me out by saying 'good luck with the birth, might see you postnatally...') or what I do if the brain tumour goes wrong on the journey (apart from 'just call 999'). So I'm feeling a bit list and confused. Got a 2 week wait to see my obstetric consultant now, but if anything happens in the mean time I have literally no idea what county I'm even meant to be in!

Stretchedfortime · 30/09/2016 20:15

That sounds rubbish littlegrey. Could you ask to speak to the Supervispr of Midwives? Or a consultant midwife? It sounds like you have a big enough complication to warrant a bit of their time.

I've been having some problems with my diabetes midwife, who keeps wanting to put me on insulin even though mostly my glucose levels are really good. But finally today I saw a consultant who was great. His first words to me were: 'Is this your first? Congratulations' and then asked me what I thought I should do. It was so refreshing. Seeing more senior people has really helped in my case - the only difficulty is remembering who is responsible for what. Really hope you get someone more helpful and knowledgeable - it's a lot to deal with even with the right support.

bobcat85 · 01/10/2016 10:24

Glad your work meeting went well Fedup. I found it very weird the last couple of weeks as it didn't hit me at all that I was planning to be off for a year.

Is there anyone else you can speak to LittleGrey? It seems like they've left you in the dark quite a bit. Or could you move your consultant appointment nearer? Hope you get some answers.

Welcome Ellie, I'm due the day after you (15th Nov) with a boy.

As it's officially October we can now all say we're due next month. That feels weird to say.

Bollyroo · 03/10/2016 01:50

So day 1 of maternity leave and I've come out in a massive acne outbreak. Hmm, not so glowy!
Poppet keeps wriggling all over the place. She has been head down for the last 3 weeks but I'm sure she flipped over the weekend and now just feels like it's legs, arms, bum and head everywhere! The hiccups still seem to be down low though so I really have no idea which position she's in today.

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 03/10/2016 10:46

Ah I envy you bolly! I still have 2 weeks left (well technically 4 but a two week half term first) and I'm exhausted! I've had to come home early and crawl back into bed today as I'm feeling really rough. I have Crohn's disease and it's been fine all the way through my pregnancy, until this week Hmm. I'm so annoyed - if it doesn't clear up they probably won't want me using the birthing centre after all! Sad

tiredmumrighthere · 03/10/2016 10:58

Bolly-I'm in the same boat, baby was head down for ages but I've got a feeling she's moved because I'm getting moved almost near my right hip Confused but got a growth scan Wednesday so will find out what position she's in.

34 weeks today, seems so strange saying I'm going to be getting my baby next month Shock times gone so fast x

helenatroy · 03/10/2016 13:15

Jesus girls it's October. We're up next!

JadeT2 · 03/10/2016 13:29

35 weeks today and off for my flu jab. It's getting scarily close now...! I've packed my hospital bag but have yet to wash baby's clothes so haven't packed hers yet. We've got our Mamas and Papas delivery coming in two weeks with pram, moses, bouncer, car seat etc. So I'm sure it will feel very real then
