Starting a fresh new thread for us!

I think Fedup asked about Elderberries and if anyone had heard from her... I haven't seen her name pop up in a while, but I'm not on the FB group either. I've been wondering the same about almondbutter, haven't seen her on here for a while now and know she was really suffering with sickness.

My hospital doesn't do tours :( they have a virtual tour online you can watch....pretty naff but hey ho. Yes I'm really getting out of breath this last week. I'm 30 weeks today. I don't know how the baby is going to survive another 10 weeks I feel like I'm going to explode xx

bobcat85 · 30/08/2016 20:16

I'm so confused with where to give birth. I've got the choice of two hospitals, however the one 5 mins drive away isn't equipped for emergencies so if anything goes wrong you get blue lighted to the other hospital which is 30 mins drive away. There is a midwife lead unit in the maternity unit in the hospital further away which I went to when baby wasn't moving. It seemed nice but I'm unsure if I want an epidural or not which they don't do at the midwife lead unit.
So confused!

JadeT2 · 30/08/2016 20:36

Yes 10 weeks seems both really close and really far away..!

I was told if I changed my mind and wanted an epidural they could just move me upstairs to the consultant led ward so that made me feel a bit better. I will happily take anything that makes me feel less pain hah.

helenatroy · 30/08/2016 20:47

Do have any of you who have to have an elective Cesarian know much about a gentle Cesarian?

Stretchedfortime · 30/08/2016 20:58

Jade - I'm planning on midwife unit. But I need to make sure it's ok with the staff given I've got gestational diabetes. We went on a tour and it was great. It was really good hearing other people's questions - made me think about lots of things I hadn't considered. E

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 30/08/2016 21:06

Thanks for the new thread copper!

Has anyone seen the baby monitor app? DSis used it for DN the other day. She put her iPad upstairs and connected it to her phone and it worked just like a video baby monitor. I think it was about £3. It also flashes red (or something) when noise is detected so you know the baby is awake if you've accidentally turned your phone volume down or something.

Rosy I'm crossing my fingers for you about Ofsted! They seem to be running really late where I am recently, they were almost two years overdue when they came in at the end of last term. Hopefully they'll be late for you and won't come until you're on maternity leave!

Stretchedfortime · 30/08/2016 21:31

That sounds great, Muffy. I've also been using the Kicks Count app. It's really helped reassure me a lot about movements. And it's free.

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 30/08/2016 21:43

Here is the baby monitor app. I've just had another look and I think it also has white noise, rain sounds, etc. on it. Much cheaper than an actual monitor!

I think I'll have to get the kicks counter stretched, he's been moving less with the heat and having less space in there now so had me worrying all over again!

Fedupithink · 31/08/2016 08:31

Thanks for the new thread Copper and hello to all the newbies!

I'm opting for a stand-alone midwife unit as its that or the main hospital. I had a tour at 28 weeks and I have to go back for a risk assessment at 34. The hospital is 15 mins away by ambulance so they only take low-risk births and the transfer rate is really low.

I've got a video monitor, picked it up on whim as it was price matched in John Lewis and I had vouchers. Its a Motorola MBP36S which I liked as it has a big screen, the others seemed tiny. I won't need it for a while as a monitor but it also has lullabies and a room thermometer so I'll use it for that initially.

Ionacat · 31/08/2016 09:38

Finally over food poisoning but expecting to be a paid up member of the low iron club after my midwife appointment later.
I'm off to the main hospital for my birth, had an emergency C-section last time, have been signed off for VBAC (fingers crossed), but they won't induce me so if this one is overdue, it will be a planned section instead.

Glad it's not just me with Cheeky wipes and reuseable nappies. We used them with DD, and everyone thought we were mad! I thought they were great! I haven't bought anything yet - we need a new car seat, and changing bag plus matress for the cot and Moses basket, but DD's new room needs finishing first so we have space to store new stuff. No idea of names either! I have a feeling we need to get organised or this one is going to catch me out!!

tiredmumrighthere · 31/08/2016 10:53

Anyone else feeling loads of pressure down below? This is my 5th so not sure if that's the reason why but I've never had it with the others! It's really bad I feel like she's just gonna fall out Confused the pain is awful too and I'm starting to waddle Shock don't know if it's worth contacting my midwife or not

CakeAndChocolate · 31/08/2016 10:57

tired I've had that, doesn't really hurt so much as is just really uncomfortable. It comes and goes though, I wonder if baby's head is popping in and out of being engaged? I've read it's more likely when you've had more than one baby.
Pain doesn't sound good though, so I would ring the midwife to be on the safe side if I were you.

onthemetro · 31/08/2016 12:14

Ooh a new thread Smile I wonder what number we'll be on by the time November arrives?

I had a growth scan yesterday and got to see baby which was really nice, we were given photos but I realised on my way home that they're not actually mine! They've got someone else's name/gestational age on Angry So that cute little baby I was cooing over isn't actually mine which is annoying!

Bollyroo · 31/08/2016 12:39

Iona, glad you're feeling better.

We're at a midwife led unit which I'm really comfortable with. They seem really geared towards focussing on the comfort side rather than at a "hospital hospital" where people are there because they are sick or injured. It feels more relaxed - from this side of labour anyway..!

Had a breakthrough today when I realised low iron is the perfect excuse to have bacon sarnies everyday! I read that pork is really high in iron. I'm not sure I can stomach the iron supplement water sachets I've got. Possibly the most disgusting thing I've ever had. And they even advertise on the packet "you can really taste the iron!" Like its a good thing! Eugh!

tiredmumrighthere · 31/08/2016 13:22

Thanks cake, I phoned mw and she told me to make an app straight away with the gp because it sounded like a vaginal or urine infection and i needed to get it seen to Incase I need antibiotics, doctor told me to go straight in which I did, she did a vaginal swab and asked me to do a mid stream urine same then she put them in a bag and told me to phone early next week for the results Angry so if I do have an infection I won't know until next week then if I do need antibiotics they'll take a couple of days to work Confused I don't understand why she didn't check my urine while I was there Angry

CakeAndChocolate · 31/08/2016 13:39

That's annoying tired but I'm glad you've been checked out and fingers crossed your results come back quickly. I think some GPs like to know what the bacteria is in urine before prescribing the ABs, that way you definitely have the right ones.

tiredmumrighthere · 31/08/2016 16:14

Thanks cake, just so annoying Sad we go away on the 9th so hope I'm feeling better be then, don't fancy walking around peppa pig world feeling like I'm ready to drop Confused

CakeAndChocolate · 31/08/2016 18:23

I'm going to Peppa Pig World on Friday this week! DS is excited, me not so much!

Fedupithink · 31/08/2016 18:26

How is everyone doing on the name front? I had hoped knowing we were having a girl would make it easier but our shortlist seems to grow everyday! We're at 14 currently!

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 31/08/2016 18:28

tired I'm sorry to hear that. I hope it doesn't get any worse for you during the waiting period. Enjoy Peppa Pig World (as much as you can!) We took DD there when she was 3 and she loved it. She also enjoyed the rides in the main part of Paulton's Park.

I'm really sorry if this is TMI, but has anyone else been getting a lot of mucus? I'm not noticing it in my underwear so much but when I go to the loo. It's not bloody or anything so I don't think it's the mucus plug. I don't remember very much from my last pregnancy as it was so long ago!

onthemetro · 31/08/2016 18:52

Muffy Yes! Except I'm mostly noticing it in my underwear. I think it's pretty normal. Although I have panicked a few times when I've been wearing stupid knickers with a strawberry/watermelon/flowery pink print and it looks like there's blood in it but it's not it's just the stupid pattern showing through Grin

Fedup What have you got on your list?

tired fingers crossed that the results are back soon, it's so annoying to have to wait so long

mrsdane · 31/08/2016 19:35

Muffy - yes, all the time. Also plan on using the baby monitor app you mentioned, as my sister found it fantastic and its so much cheaper than buying a monitor!
Been properly diagnosed with PGP now, so am having physio on a weekly basis (having been advised to avoid the NHS as appointments take so long to come through...) and having to adapt everything I do. Pretty frustrating but there you go. My work has these glorious rooms where you can go for a lie down as a pregnant woman (or use if you're bf) and I had a nap today when the back pain got too much. Was marvellous.

Have any of you read the Bounty thread on the main boards today? Fascinating stuff. I am ready to tell them exactly where to go when on the ward. I think it's unbelievable they're allowed to harvest data from vulnerable women, it's disgusting.

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 31/08/2016 19:52

Thank god I'm not the only one! I was thinking that the baby was trying to make an early appearance. Especially as I've also been feeling very, very low movements recently! I hope these are signs for an easy birth (wishful thinking!)

I am going to ask for "No Bounty" to be put on my notes. I remember them coming in unannounced when I was on the ward with DD. I was only 17 at the time and very stupid conscious of not coming across as a rude or poor teenager (even though I was a poor teenager!) I ended up spending £85 on very unflattering pictures of DD that have sat in a drawer for the last seven years Hmm. Never again will you get me, Bounty Woman!

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 31/08/2016 19:53

Good luck with the physio mrsdane, I hope it helps!

tiredmumrighthere · 31/08/2016 20:07

Thanks everyone, my mw phoned me back this evening to find out how I got on, she told me to keep an eye on the pain and go back if it gets worse, so I'll monitor it and if I still feel pressure in the next day or two ill go back to see my gp

Oh really cake? Can't say I'm looking forward to it, but the Inlaws take us somewhere every year, last year was just a day trip, this year (when I'm pregnant) they thought it would be a great idea to book a hotel and have Two days at the park Confused fab!

Fedup, I think we have our name ( that's if DP doesn't change his mind) although I made the mistake of telling my mil and now she keeps referring to the baby as Lydia Angry I think it's weird to name a baby before its born esp so early on!

Muffy I've been having that for weeks! It's yucky x
