Re planks: you're not supposed to do full planks as they can make a diastasis worse, as far as I understand. Check out pregnancyexercise.co.nz for further info.

As for pelvic floor exercises, the day after my emcs (dc1) a rude MW came in and told me I should get on with them. I did have some issues with faecal urgency after that birth but that resolved.

After I had dc2 (vbac) I couldn't find my pelvic floor for several days Shock. I try to do my exercises when I get into bed at night. It's easiest to do them lying down, and more challenging to do them standing up.

Squats are also great for both your pelvic floor and core.

Hi all, I have been lurking for a while to anxious to post until after scan... You have all kept me sane over the last few weeks. Had my scan yesterday put me at 13+1 due Feb 19th with #1 ... Now feels real...now just anxious about the NT results...eeek
Started to tell folks now, I just look like I've had some serious weight gain rather than bump hoping my top belly and bottom belly merge to make a bump soon ...

Due Feb 19th #1
Age 33
From: North Yorkshire

For me doing antenatal pelvic floor exercises is essential as I've already slipped a disc in my back before. Your pelvic floor supports your spine and is also important for continence. Pregnancy puts so much stress on it with our without a vaginal birth.

For all the really active / sporty posters if you want to avoid back injuries post birth my Physio definitely recommended them. My spin instructor also told me her pelvic floor was too weak for her to run at all for a year after her daughter was born ( basically anything high impact and she'd piss herself) so I'm trying to do what I can.

gumboots thanks for the additional info regarding full planks

I'm on the bus at a red light bumble Confused

Is bio-oil the preferred stretch mark deterrent of choice or are there others (apart from coconut oil?). I just can't face raiding the kitchen cupboard and rubbing it in however good it is. I've bought mustala (sp?) at great expense, smells good and feels nice but will go through gallons. Can't stand the smell of palmers cocoa butter...

Any others out there?

SpinALittleFaster · 16/08/2016 19:21

Scotty if you'd gone a few miles further you would have found a New Look that stocks maternity. H&M in the city centre do maternity too, and JoJo have a small selection.

I didn't do pelvic floor exercises last time and have had no issues since my ELCS. I should probably try harder this time.

My stats
31
Central Scotland
DC2

SkyLucy · 16/08/2016 19:23

Erm, I didn't get bio-oil from my kitchen piano...

Welcome Daisy :-)

LondonGirl that's really good to know re: pelvic floor exercises and backs - extra motivation to get doing them. I've an old back injury that isn't usually an issue, but I've been wondering if it might be a problem once I get big.

ScottyAl · 16/08/2016 19:30

Spin is that in Edinburgh? I can't bring myself to during the festival! I'm going to have to soon though, don't think I can wear my Asda PJ bottoms everyday for the next 5 months Sad

SpinALittleFaster · 16/08/2016 19:32

New Look at the Gyle has maternity upstairs and it's not really affected by the festival. I'd avoid the city centre though until it's over!

ScottyAl · 16/08/2016 19:52

Thanks, Spin. I always forget about the Gyle. I might venture out at the weekend. I went to Straiton full of hope about their massive new Next. Big mistake!

gumbootsandjandals · 16/08/2016 20:23

I hate to say it but you can't prevent stretch marks with lotions and potions. The damage happens at the dermis level of the skin, and oils/lotions barely penetrate the epidermis.

Oils etc are great for dry skin tho, and you may find as your tummy skin stretches it gets a bit dry and itchy. I used body shop body butter last pg after reacting to either Sanctuary bump oil or Burts Bees bump butter the previous pg. I'm not a moisturiser generally but enjoyed rubbing it into my bump last time.

LondonGirl83 · 16/08/2016 20:34

sienna we are double buddies indeed

I should say not going through vaginal birth does mean a lot less stress on your pelvic floor I'm told but carrying the baby does cause it's own stress too.

topmammy · 16/08/2016 20:43

I used bio oil last time. Was feeling quietly smug that I got to week 30 something with no stretch marks at all but then then just appeared over night Shock I agree the potion and lotions can't stop them if you're going to get them. It's all in the genes!

Re. Pelvic floor exercises. Being a teacher I often have to hold my wee in for ridiculously long times - that counts as Pelvic floor exercises right? Wink Grin haha.

ButtonTum · 16/08/2016 21:20

Thank you friendly. My edd has moved to 11 Feb and 20 week scan is on 27/9.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 16/08/2016 22:02

Anyone having their baby at Bolton hospital? Know there's a few north west ladies here so just wondered.

I am terrible for remembering pelvic floor exercises and after two kids over 9lb at birth I really should remember Blush .

Cinderella I would be fuming, they're not the same at all and....a fecking sausage roll!!! That's not an adults lunch! You where well within your rights to call him on that one! X

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 16/08/2016 22:05

Ooh yes, my 20 week scan is 19/9

jpclarke · 16/08/2016 22:28

Anyone struggling with breakouts of spots? Any remedies or suggestions to prevent and help them go away?

topmammy · 16/08/2016 22:44

jp my complexion isn't great at the moment either. Don't know what to do other than religiously cleanse, tone and moisturise and drink lots of water. I think there's an old wives tale that says if you get lots of spots while pregnant then you're probably having a girl Wink

twocatsandatoddler · 16/08/2016 22:49

I've got loads of spots, I remember my skin being bad last time but not this bad. Thankfully they're mostly all hidden in my hairline so not too visible.

Holly1987 · 17/08/2016 06:32

I'm suffering with spots too Confused Those big red ones that sit under your skin for days before getting a head & quite sore. When do I start to "glow?" - My hair seems to have gone really dry too.

My nails on the other hand, look fab!

Someone mentioned pains in their legs further up the thread, I'm getting slight aches/cramps in my thighs now and again. But I'm not sure what they are. Wondered if it was me putting weight on lol

MimiDiddy · 17/08/2016 07:38

Keeping snap my 20 wk scan is on the 19th too, and I'm in the North West too. I live in Lancaster but hoping to go to the Preston alongside birth centre when the time comes. I'd like to try the birthing pools for pain relief, but there's only one at my local hospital.

Holly spots here too, grrr! Dry hair too, but that's welcome as usually have a greasy mop that demands washing every other day but can go about 5 now. I have quite long hair and washing and drying it whilst living in a building site with no mirror is a right palaver.

Anyone finding their bump a bit sore from tossing and turning at night?

MarjorySunshineDust · 17/08/2016 07:49

I've woken up with a rotten cold this morning. Would usually dose up on Berocca but not sure if I can. There's no vitamin A in it though.

jpclarke · 17/08/2016 07:59

The old wives tale is true, on my first I had horrendous breakouts constantly and I had a girl. This time I am getting the occasional break out. But they are really sore. On my boy I had no spots. And just nausea, whereas on my girl I had a lot of sickness. No sickness just nausea this time too.

Naschkatze · 17/08/2016 08:32

My skin is bad too but like Holly my nails look great!

I've heard the same old wives tale. Does anybody just 'have a feeling' about what they might be having? Recently, whenever I've dreamt about baby, it has always been a girl. I'm more drawn to girls names etc. it's not just what I would like because I've always said I'd love a boy first. Could all mean nothing of course!

LondonGirl83 · 17/08/2016 09:06

I've only had one cystic type spot so far and I'm having a girl so not sure about that old wives tale 😀

I thought (for no reason) it was a boy before I found out but am thrilled it's a girl.
