My waters broke 11pm on the Thursday, contractions didn't get started really for another day. I refused induction, think guidelines were up to 36 hours but they weren't particularly happy about it but went along with it, I had minimal internal examinations to reduce the risk of infection. DD was born 6am on the Sunday. They wanted to keep us in to observe for infection overnight but as it happened we had to stay in anyway as I had a large haemorrhage.
Next time I will hold off on induction as long as I can again.

Evergreen17 · 27/08/2016 08:14

Oh my!! So much info and experience here about birth. And me knowing NADA!
I think I will worry a bit more in a couple of months, atm I am all "is bubba still there?" Hmm
16 weeks appt. on Thursday and I was told the midwife will listen to the heartbeat so I am really hoping she does and that bubba is still thereSmile
Holidays end tomorrow Sad

Mum keeps buying baby clothes so I think I wont have to buy any although I knitted a warm jumper and I got a couple of things from ebay
Smile

I was left very long- baby spent first 4 days in neonatal due to an infection so I was left TOO long. If something doesn't seem right to you- question it and demand you want to be seen by someone else. I was only 21, first baby so didn't know what to expect.

mrschn · 27/08/2016 13:37

twocats I had pethadine which is similar to diamorphine and was also out of it during delivery. It was a haze the whole thing! So could well have been that. I passed out asleep not long after being stitched up and poor DH left holding the baby till I came round haha.
This time I'll be getting an epidural instead, if gas and air doesn't cut it. Would very much like to be 'present' this time around.
That said I'd take the pethadine again in a heartbeat if I felt I needed it and the epidural wasn't forthcoming (as was last time... Anaesthetists stuck in surgery!). It was awesome!!!

topmammy · 27/08/2016 14:32

Oh God Cinderella thats terrible, poor you and your baby. Sorry you had to go through that.

I had one shot of pethidine at 4cm when I started to panic a bit. It didn't really do anything for the actual pain but knockEd me out in between contractions which helped me relax I guess. It felt a bit tortuous being "woken up" every contraction though Grin I'd have it again though, but only before about 5cm dilated as it can make baby very sleepy if they're born soon after you have it.

Pudding01 · 27/08/2016 16:08

Just to let you know my name change, I was Holly1987 Smile But then realised that no one really uses their names! Lol

wispaxmas · 27/08/2016 16:09

Topmammy, it took over 12 hours for me to go from 4cm to DD bring born, I'm not sure one shot of pethidine would've cut it for me Grin as it was I ended up asking for an epidural after being in labour so long, which was great because I got to control how much I topped it up, could still feel my contractions, but not the pain of them, was totally with it and in control and knew what was going on and had no ill side effects as I could still feel my legs and move into different positions on the bed.

topmammy · 27/08/2016 16:24

Yikes 12 hours, I'm sure I would've needed something else too. Thankfully it was 4 hours for me from 4cm to birth. That sounds good about the epidural, I thought they completely numbed you so you had to rely on the MW to tell you when to push.

Summerflake · 27/08/2016 19:51

Has anyone had a birth debrief from their previous birth?

I've been recommended to have one from a consultant, as despite DD being nearly 4 and me thinking I was totally over the birth I've been having quite emotional, flashback type moments! Apparently the consultant should be able to talk me through it and magically I'll feel better???? Hmm

Summerflake · 27/08/2016 20:01

Also, for all the first timers, my birth was really unusual, I am constantly reassuring all my friends who don't have children yet that mine was just a fluke almost and most births are totally fine. So don't be totally freaked out by my last post!

And pretty much don't listen to anyone's birth stories. You are unique and your birth will be too Smile the only things I will say are be prepared to go with the flow. Having too much of a plan can be more stressful if it goes wrong. Avoid the pethadine if possible. I too lost hours of time spaced out on it, although no pain so that's obviously a plus! And finally (despite me being slightly crazy emotional at the moment) it doesn't matter how baby is born, so long as they are healthy and you are alive Smile

Shellbell0403 · 27/08/2016 20:10

Sorry for this question but is anyone's nipples area getting very dry? Xx

Summerflake · 27/08/2016 20:31

Blush yes me, it's weird! And my boobs are HUGE! I'm quite shocked, normally I'm teeny tiny!

Is anyone watching X factor? Love the run up to Christmas, a million times more exciting this year Grin

Shellbell0403 · 27/08/2016 20:34

summer have you used moisturiser on them? Think normal is ok? Lol

Summerflake · 27/08/2016 20:42

Yeah, just my normal Nivea stuff. I also bought extra moisturising shower gel to see if that helped. My tummy is also itchy, just growing and stretching I guess.

I'm going to get measured for a new bra tomorrow, hoping that will help as well.

GinandJazzHands · 28/08/2016 01:26

Hi ladies just checking in,
Have been offline for a few weeks - combination of a week holiday, then a busy time at work plus ms/feeling shattered a lot. 14 weeks tomorrow and feeling less sick so hoping I'm turning a corner. Spent two very late nights catching up on the thread and now I'm too tired to post! But so glad everyone is doing well and we are all in the 2nd trimester. Loving the tips on purchases for maternity and baby, and trying to skip through the scary birth stories to be honest... scared first timer here!

CarolineSecretan · 28/08/2016 08:20

Ah man I've missed so much and I don't have time to catch up!! I hope everyone is well. I'm still stuck with headaches that won't go away!! :(

GinIsIn · 28/08/2016 08:28

Caroline - headaches here too!! It's so annoying!

wispaxmas · 28/08/2016 08:34

I've had a couple killer headaches and after doing a bit of research decided to take a cocodamol for one and it really helped as paracetamol did nothing. I was told to take cocodamol in early labour last time, so thought it might be ok- turns out it is if you don't take it for long or often, so a single dose to ease a headache was fine.

Shellbell0403 · 28/08/2016 08:58

Morning Ladies!

How are we all today?
I have abit of a landmark... only got up ONCE during the night to pee!! Haha..

(Feeling abit nauseas this morning 😷)

GinIsIn · 28/08/2016 09:00

Shell - I am SO jealous. I had to go a record breaking 6 times last night!! Sad

LondonGirl83 · 28/08/2016 09:03

Thanks ladies for the advice on induction and the impact of different pain relief options! Very useful 😀

My nipples get very itchy and dry sometimes: I just whack on some bio oil summer

LondonGirl83 · 28/08/2016 09:09

I went to the Reading festival yesterday to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers!

It was great but I'm shattered now! It was a bit odd being in such a huge crowd pregnant - was extra cautious of my belly. But the music really got the baby moving!

toBurpOrNotTo · 28/08/2016 11:23

Caroline, Fenella, wisp I'm in the same boat as you with the headaches. Decided to go for a longish walk early this morning, & that seemed to help a lot.

On a diff note, I got a pair of maternity jeans from gap this weekend. I don't have a prominent bump yet, but don't feel comfy in my regular pair, so though I'll give the full banded ones a try. Damn thing kept slipping down & I had to pull it up several times when I was walking my neighbourhood. Not sure if a belt will solve the issue or I just need to wait till I have a proper bump! What are you girls doing ?

Shellbell0403 · 28/08/2016 11:32

Anyone any idea where to get jeggings from? Need them for tonight 🙈

topmammy · 28/08/2016 11:36

I got some maternity leggings and a pair of treggings from h & m, they're both so comfy! Got a few basic tops too. I didn't get anything from h & m last time but I'm actually pretty impressed with their stuff for the price.
