scottish she didn't weight me today

LondonGirl83 · 19/08/2016 16:55

Phoebe I definitely had friends travel by train that for that late in their pregnancies. The only thing was they didn't do it alone. If you went into early labor, how would you feel about being on your own potentially?

LondonGirl83 · 19/08/2016 16:57

Scottish what are you worried about? Is it just you'd rather not know or do you think she'll tell you off. I think you can refuse to be weighed if you really don't want to be.

PhoebeGeebee · 19/08/2016 16:58

I'd be ok, depending where it started! In laws are half way between mine and my mums. Might have to have another chat with DH and see what he thinks...

ScottishSnowflake · 19/08/2016 17:02

I've just put on a load of weight - I'm slightly sensitive about my weight at best of times and I'm struggling to like what I look like atm. I know it's all for baby, but all I've wanted is white carbs and its not done me any good Sad

LondonGirl83 · 19/08/2016 17:15

If your BMI is below 30, I doubt they'll say anything to you one way or another from what I've heard. Maybe say something to the MW at the start of the appointment about how you are sensitive about how much weight you've gained since getting pregnant. That hopefully will give her a heads up to treat you with kit gloves so the whole experience is not too traumatizing.

ScottishSnowflake · 19/08/2016 17:16

Thanks London, I'll try that

FriendlyGhost · 19/08/2016 17:23

topmammy mine was on my letter saying I was low risk. The levels weren't even flagged as an issue as they're not below the hospital's threshold but they are less than half what they should be. I only noticed because I looked.
I also have two cats and have been changed their litter trays. The precious babies won't go outside Hmm I just make sure I wash my hands thoroughly.
Phoebe I would go but just make sure you have your hospital notes with you. I will be doing a similar length train journey to see my parents.
Scottish I didn't get weighed after my 12 week scan last time. Hopefully the same this time. I don't want to know!

wispaxmas · 19/08/2016 17:27

Phoebe, how would you and DH both feel if you were to go into prem labour whilst you were away? Not all first babies are late, in my June baby group from last time about 1/3 of the babies were born before their due dates, quite a few around 37 weeks, which is considered full term. I'm usually pretty laid back about things, and I guarantee you that if you don't go you will end up 2 weeks overdue and being induced, but the risk of going into labour without DH would put me off travelling more than an hour away after 36 weeks. My DH works away in Paris quite frequently and last time I asked him to stay in London from when I was 36 weeks onwards as I didn't want him to potentially miss anything!

wispaxmas · 19/08/2016 17:30

london, try feliway, I think that's what it's called. It's a plug in with calming pheromones. We got the dog version for when our dog was suffering with separation anxiety!

PhoebeGeebee · 19/08/2016 17:34

I guess my only concern is the four hours getting up there. If I went into labour in a different town then he could get up there - albeit a few hours later.

NameChange30 · 19/08/2016 18:01

Hi everyone! I'm new to this thread (but not MN). Had my 12 week scan today (yay!) and my due date is 27th Feb. The sonographer said she thinks it's a boy! Did your sonographers say anything about the sex?

I'm 30 and this my first pregnancy, first child for both me and DH. I'm also on the March thread, as I thought I was due around the 1st/2nd, but I figure there's been no harm in joining in here as well Smile

Readyfortwo · 19/08/2016 18:18

scotty the peppermint oil is in a gel capsule, so you swallow it & then the skin breaks down releasing the oil once it's in your digestive system.

London, I did Nct (& paid the crazy London pricing too). Unless they've done something dramatic since my first you will prob find the content quite outdated (they have very traditional views of male/female roles) & also they focus entirely on natural birth- which is a bit crazy considering that out of 8 in the class only 2 actually had a birth that required no intervention. But as my friend put it the people we met are 'the best friends I've ever bought', and were a great support during mat leave & still meet up regularly, babysit for each other etc.... invaluable really.

Mat leave wise I think I'm going to work til 39 weeks as Jan is quite quiet for us, but may change my
mind nearer the time. I will use hol to work part time after Christmas though, as I did this last time & it worked well for me.

wispa we've already got to feliway plugs! We will need something stronger...

ready thanks for that. It sounds like I'm going to have to practice not rolling my eyes. My DH and I have a very non-traditional marriage :) Also, I'm planning on taking all the drugs!

Readyfortwo · 19/08/2016 19:56

Yes, particularly cringe moment when they told the men they should learn how to use the washing machine & make the women a nice cup of tea every now and again to 'help out'.

I'm now the proud owner of an icandy pram! Grin

Shellbell0403 · 19/08/2016 20:11

Well I'm an emotional wreck and in pain tonight. Just want to go to bed and crying!!
Have a horrid heartburn/nauseas burning feeling. Getting pains around stomach/bump area and a pain under my ribs on right side..
DH is not understanding Sad

MarjorySunshineDust · 19/08/2016 20:25

I found NCT a waste of time really but it may have been because our small group didn't gel very well. It is very focused on natural birth and the teacher pulled a bit of a face when she said we would be looking at drugs etc(!) however we did cover interventions a bit. We actually had an anaesthetist in the group which was helpful! Also the breastfeeding session was very much 'just pop baby on like this and away you go!'

My bmi was 30 last time and I was only ever weighed during booking in and when they did the blood test at the scan. I don't think they generally weigh after this time.

Sorry you're feeling rubbish shell have a nice early night.

SBSparkles · 19/08/2016 20:44

Hello! Way behind as on holiday again! So I now have no waist!! I'm curvy in a 'healthy weight' way but didn't have much room to put any extra on. I put on a stone during ivf which made me officially overweight and now I have no waist!! Haha! Got to get used to this! Bump bigger now - am 17 weeks tomorrow. Bit of rumbling in tummy - still can't tell if it's wind or baby.
Anyone se got ridiculously itchy boobs!!! Driving me nuts! On plus side FINALLY got more energy but still in bed at 8!

SBSparkles · 19/08/2016 20:57

Week 17 bump! Nothing fits!

gumbootsandjandals · 19/08/2016 21:01

My last two pg I finished work at 37.5 weeks. My second pg I could have definitely worked a bit longer as had more energy than in the first (my hb was higher but my job was also slightly less busy).

This time it is looking like I will go on mat leave asap ie at 29w due to DH's new job which he starts in Oct. He will have a long commute until we move, and I feel I will struggle to work AND do all the domestic stuff during the week. Also I feel bad that I will be leaving my team in the lurch so want them to be able to recruit a replacement asap. Still undecided about whether I will go back to (NHS) work or not. I need to decide in a few weeks as it has implications for my mat pay.

We did NCT first time around. There was an emphasis on natural birth however we also talked about ALL the drugs, and c sections. I know the other NCT teacher in my area is anti drugs and anti c sections (yes, really!) so we were lucky. My group is still in contact although we all work different days so don't see each other as much as we did during mat leave.

If we manage to move house in the next couple of months I'm considering doing NCT in the new area. Both to meet people but to also help me get in the birth mindset. I found with my second birth I was so busy in the lead up I didn't give much thought to the birth, and maybe I should have. The NHS classes around here aren't great for forging new friendships, however there are numerous baby groups which provide the opportunity to meet new mums. The only thing I found though was all the NCT mums seemed to stick together in some of the groups, so it was hard to make inroads.

Are u guys still taking folic acid? Wasn't sure if u have to take it the whole way or just at the start? X

topmammy · 19/08/2016 22:20

Thanks for the info about where to find the PAPP-A level, I'll have to wait for my screening results and see then.

sunshine I'm taking a tablet with vitamin C, D and folic acid in it. But I don't think it really matters past about 12 weeks about folic acid like it does in the first trimester as the spine and brain have already done the key bit of development.

I am so loving nectarines at the moment. I feel like eating 2 or 3 at a time Grin (I haven't though, I would get far too bloated!)

Mysterycat23 · 19/08/2016 22:23

kiki and wonder my 16 week appt they did urine sample and blood pressure. Nothing else. In and out in 10 mins...
