Hi all!

Only just catching up on posts after a busy couple of weeks trying to keep my toddler entertained over the summer holidays!

Still suffering from morning sickness but I felt baby's first little flutters last week and had a really positive VBAC appointment on Monday so it's not all bad.

Whilst I read back over the thread, can anyone recommend some nice maternity jeggings?!
I'm after some that are soft and stretchy rather than denim (more like thick leggings if that makes sense?) but that don't look naff!

LondonGirl83 · 19/08/2016 15:18

Kiki that's right. The NHS recommend freezing it for 4 days. Apparently the risk with cured meats is the parasite that causes toxoplasmosis. However, I guess it can't survive being frozen for 4 days which is why if you do that (or if you cook it) then you have the all clear.

The parasite is extremely rare so its unlikely you have it but if you are nervous you can ask your MW to test you. Apparently its easily treated but symptom less. I love cured meat and almost lost my mind on holiday in Spain... I'm sure part of my weightloss so far has been not eating packets of Italian and Spanish meat every week :)

kikisdelivery · 19/08/2016 15:24

London we have three cats, so when I went for my booking appt, I told the midwife, who was completely unconcerned and said I'd probably had toxoplasmosis already without even knowing! No offer of extra tests or anything, and I'm obviously staying away from the litter duties anyway right now, which DP loves Grin!

McBobby1 · 19/08/2016 15:25

All this talk of food has made me hungry!!! The only problem is that I think I want something until it's in front of me! 😩😩

So annoying!!!

twocatsandatoddler · 19/08/2016 15:28

I'm not too worried about toxoplasmosis either (I have two cats, as you might have guessed!). I still change their litter tray but make sure to wash my hands extra thoroughly afterwards. You are more likely to get it from gardening apparently as it lives in soil.

divadee · 19/08/2016 15:28

kikis it took a little while for the midwife to find the heartbeat. She found mine. She found the placenta whoshing around but baby was busy moving away!! She found it in the end. I suppose I was a bit less concerned though as I had a little look at bubs on Tuesday when I had my cervical length scan.

ScottyAl · 19/08/2016 15:40

Ready, what on earth do you do with the capsules?!

toomammy, I'm obsessed with the blood orange version but it has to be cold and served over ice. It seems to be the one thing that stops me from feeling thirsty.

shell and sky, I'm just in from work and went to get myself a packet from the cupboard. Someone has eaten the last packet. Again!!! There is only one other human living in this house and he was warned when he did it last time 😡

GGNewMum · 19/08/2016 15:42

itsliz I got some from New Look. Needed a size up from what I wore pre-pregnancy - but they're comfy and the bump band serving me well. I also really love a pair of Jessica Simpson maternity jeggings that my sister brought me from the states - but no idea how expensive they are and if they're on Amazon here.

LondonGirl83 · 19/08/2016 15:44

I have two cats as well! I stopped changing the litter since we started TTC. DH of course LOVES this! He said, I'll have to do the litter boxes for over a year after the baby is born...

Our cats have gone totally bat-shit crazy recently. I have no idea what wrong with them. The girl keeps having 'accidents' every day in the house. It started with our previous vacation but we are getting close to the end of our rope.

We are taking her to the vets tomorrow to see if a course of anti-depressants will do the trick. If they don't, I might need my own...

topmammy · 19/08/2016 15:45

Friendly Im still breastfeeding. Not sure what my PAPP-A level is though... will have a look through my notes later and see if I can find it. I was taking a folic acid with zinc tablet daily for many months before ttc though.

London I didn't do NCT classes but did go to the free NHS ones which were good, including a breastfeeding workshop that was interesting. I met other mums through baby groups after DD was born too.

ScottyAl · 19/08/2016 15:49

Regards maternity leave, I was planning on starting mine 9th Jan but actually finishing work on the last day of term which is 23rd Dec (another teacher!) but may have abs my mind changed today. Spoke to our school business manager who is concerned I might not be entitled to maternity pay as I'm part way through covering someone else's maternity (oops!) and my contract is due to end in April. I might just work until I physically can't or until I give birth on the classroom floor to maximise my pay!

mrs it was me asking about anti-d. Thanks for the info. Will make sure I get it in my arm! Still have a very achy, sore arm from my whooping cough jag yesterday Sad

LondonGirl83 · 19/08/2016 15:55

Thanks Topmammy. I'm not sure NCT is for me but like a sheep I've handed over my hard earned cash...

itsliz · 19/08/2016 15:57

GG Thanks for the recommendation! New Look is actually one of the few shops that stocks their maternity range in my nearest branch so I'll have to try some on next time I'm passing Smile

Wonderlust123 · 19/08/2016 15:59

Diva, do you know if listening for the heartbeat is a standard practice at the 16 week appointment? Mine's next Tuesday, and I was going to go alone if it was just giving out more booklets and checking everything's okay. But might get the OH to come along if it means he gets to hear the heartbeat also.

GG, thanks for the message and link. I'll have a look at that now.

Let me know if anyone finds leggings which aren't see-through!! I haven't had much luck on the finding gym wear front, so I think leggings might have to be the way forward. (Saying that, I'm still only talking about going back to the gym! We'll see how it goes in practice when I get back into a work routine!)

divadee · 19/08/2016 16:12

wonder I'm afraid i don't know. I didn't think to ask to be honest. I wasn't expecting it as I had heard others say that it didn't happen to them as midwives can struggle to find a heartbeat with Doppler this early but she just did it.

topmammy · 19/08/2016 16:18

I'm sure the NCT classes are good too. I know some people that have made friends and do meet up regularly with people they met at theirs. I didn't find that kind of comradery at the NHS ones. Or maybe my group was just a bit shy Grin

Well I've had a look through my notes but can't find mention of my PAPP-A level anywhere. I'm not worried at all, just curious. Where is yours noted down Friendly / anyone else that knows it? Or is it given on your screening results perhaps? as I haven't got mine back yet.

LondonGirl83 · 19/08/2016 16:21

It's given on the blood work results they give you for the screening. I did and got mine the same day as my 12 week scan. Is that unusual. Can't remember the results but I know all was normal.

topmammy · 19/08/2016 16:21

Wonder have you got a section in your notes that tells you what to expect during your antenatal care? This is what mine says for 16 weeks:

Due February 2017- thread #6
Wonderlust123 · 19/08/2016 16:23

TopMammy, I got the letter giving screening results for Down Syndrome, and it was written in that letter that I've got low PAPP A. I asume it was only mentioned because it was a concern. If you've not heard anything, it should mean your results were okay.

MarjorySunshineDust · 19/08/2016 16:28

Last time the midwife did listen to the heartbeat during 16 week appointment. I remember her saying that it can sometimes be tricky to find and asking if I wanted her to or not.

I took mat leave as soon as I could last time, I knew I wouldn't be going back full time and really enjoyed those weeks of relaxing and doing whatever I wanted. I am on zero hours now and only work one or two shifts a month so will probably carry on longer this time.

New Look maternity leggings are good. Someone recommended Next jeggings yesterday and I can also recommend Next ultimate maternity jeans.

Wonderlust123 · 19/08/2016 16:34

It's so frustrating that shops don't stock maternity wear in store. Not a fan of ordering clothes online and the hassle of sending them back!

TopMammy, no I don't seem to have the page. I suppose the forms etc must be different in different areas / countries.

ScottishSnowflake · 19/08/2016 16:42

Does anyone know if they do your weight at 16w check? Slightly worried about mine and got a feeling MW will say something about it if I do get weighed Sad

PhoebeGeebee · 19/08/2016 16:45

Please don't flame me but here I'd the first Christmas question!

My DB gets two weeks off from a nine month deployment at Christmas and is visiting my mum for three days. Me and DH were going to drive up but DH can't get the time off work.

I'm planning on going up alone but taking the train instead. It's a four hour journey with one change. I'll be 8 months pregnant and am due 24th Jan. DM is getting panicky, am I being silly to think it'll be fine? First baby hence the question!!

GGNewMum · 19/08/2016 16:46

Friendly so hard to find info on this anywhere - I don't think they really know what it means either! But doc has prescribed me a baby aspirin every day until 36 weeks to thin blood and apparently that lowers the risk of growth restriction (Although from what little info I found, low PAPP-A increases risk of these complications by 2-3% only).

PhoebeGeebee · 19/08/2016 16:46

Scottish - yes, she did weight at mine
