Naschkatze totally understandable about wanting to maximise time with baby. I went part time (0.6) after having DD and to be honest want to reduce my hours further after this baby if at all possible. My hubby is happy for me not to go back at all if that's what I want but I'm torn! It wasnt easy becoming a teacher in the first place. We're just lucky we live in an area where we could just about afford for me not to work though.

FriendlyGhost · 19/08/2016 10:26

I wanted to maximise time with the baby too. It's so hard going back to work when they're so little. I have to say a bit of time to yourself beforehand is lovely though. I didn't start getting impatient until I was overdue. It was great sitting sewing and watching Netflix, seeing friends who were off with kids, batch cooking, getting the house clean and tidy and having long showers. Some of those things are just impossible with a small baby. I expect I'll still be running around with no time to relax this time!

Top that makes me feel better about my 33-week leaving plans Smile

I told my manager we would chat when I am back from holidays

But I know that I want to leave by 26th of December and that Christmas leave is always a struggle in my job so I think I might email her my plan and see Smile

A bit nervous about making it official though!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhh

LondonGirl83 · 19/08/2016 12:04

Hmm, I'll probably work until the end of Jan when I'm 37 weeks. I haven't considered all the details yet. For some reason I don't want to share with work yet. I'm kind of in denial.

Shellbell0403 · 19/08/2016 12:23

I'm thinking of finishing on the 16th Dec also so I don't lose my holidays..

OK I have had pepperoni the last three days and starting to feel guilty!! Think it will be OK?

LondonGirl83 · 19/08/2016 12:38

The risk with cured meats is toxoplasmosis. If your pepperoni was cooked (like on a pizza) you can have as much as you like! If not, freeze it for 4 days first next time and then have as much as you like!

Naschkatze · 19/08/2016 12:48

Londongirl I know exactly what it you mean about being in denial. So far only our close families know and I don't really want to tell anyone else!

divadee · 19/08/2016 12:55

Morning ladies.

I don't know who was asking about 16 week appt with midwife. I have just had mine at 16+3 and we did usual urine, blood pressure etc.... But I did get to hear bubs' heartbeat which was lovely. Other than that just a chat about how I was feeling and any questions. She has put my mind at ease over a lot. And has told me a lot of info about the local midwife led unit. Which will be my back up for a home birth if it doesn't or can't happen.

twocatsandatoddler · 19/08/2016 12:55

Yeah the freezing trick is a good one! I craved cured meat so much last time until I realised it could be frozen and eaten safely.

Baked Camembert was another favourite last time. In fact I might make that tonight Grin

mrschn · 19/08/2016 13:04

I think it's totally personal when to start mat leave. I worked to 40 weeks with DS ... Actually shared a trip in the lift with a male colleague on my due date, when he asked me when I was due and I said today, his face was a picture! He couldn't get out of the lift fast enough.
In hindsight that was OK as DS was late, but tough commuting so late on. This time I'll stop a couple of weeks earlier. Prob 38. Since I want to go back for a couple of weeks as stopping at Xmas seems a bit soon.

Who asked about the anti D injection? In all honesty, it is a bit of a stingy one but over v fast and it is better in the arm. They used to give it in your bum and that's just mean ;)

Daisydaisy18 · 19/08/2016 13:17

I don't have a clue when to start may leave, a teacher too I was going to try to get to Feb half term but I'm further on than first thought so might try to get to end of January ... I have a BIG issue in that I start a new job in September. Feeling really bad about been pregnant and have not told them yet as it was to early before the summer hols. We had tried for over 18months so thought we would have a break until I got settled into new job and decide if we wanted to go down the IVF or adoption route and then oops a drunken evening camping!! The thought of telling them is making me feel sick. Would it be wrong to email the news?? I feel it would be. Need to get some floaty clothes for September
Craved pineapple and fresh fruit and have been so thirsty but they seem to have faded. Just so hungry!!

Dreamingoutloud7 · 19/08/2016 13:49

I'm finishing NYE all going well, which will make me 32/33 weeks, I know that's early but 4 weeks of it will be annual leave, and December is our most hectic stressful month that I honk the only way I'll get through it is knowing that January is all me time!!

LondonGirl83 · 19/08/2016 14:11

Oh Daisy what an amazing story! A woman getting pregnant is never easy from an HR planning perspective so don't feel guilty that its happened at the start of a new job-- particularly teaching. They'll have enough time once you give them notice.

GGNewMum · 19/08/2016 14:12

Just catching up on the last few days worth of posts!
Wonderlust123 I have low PAPP-A too, and was told it is 0.35MoM at my NT scan. I found reading this quite helpful Don't freak out about low PAPP-A

We had a private Harmony test as well at FMC (just paranoia really) and found out it's low risk (and it's a boy - so we can start using the right personal pronoun).

Also my stats:
Age : 32
NW London
Due 17 Feb / DC1

We've just been looking at nurseries this week. Super early I thought, but the one we want has a 15 month waiting list. Whew!

LondonGirl83 · 19/08/2016 14:14

Ok, I just booked my NCT class. 308 quid! I feel like that's way more than most people have said they've paid. Its just the standard 2 full days and one evening course.

Are the NCT classes tolerant to different perspectives or are they fairly rigid in pushing a specific agenda?

LondonGirl83 · 19/08/2016 14:16

GG we are due date buddies. Congrats on the little boy. We are having a little girl :)

GGNewMum · 19/08/2016 14:19

Congrats LondonGirl !

I'm still debating NCT classes. Experienced mums - has anyone taken them before? Worth it? The ones I looked up are 350 quid, wondering if it's something we should shell out for - guessing the NHS will also give us some basic classes?

kikisdelivery · 19/08/2016 14:26

London, twocats, I'm going to be completely thick now... the freezing trick with cured meats.... you just freeze it for a few days, and then you can defrost and eat as much as you like? And that's it? No putting it on pizza or cooking or anything?

kikisdelivery · 19/08/2016 14:30

diva thanks for the info about the 16 week Smile I have mine next week, one or two days earlier than dead-on 16 weeks, but it's booked now! I was curious / slightly worried in a little way about what's covered - especially as a colleague had hers a couple of weeks ago and they struggled to find the baby's heartbeat (all is now well, but understandably it upset her a lot!).

Shellbell0403 · 19/08/2016 14:44

london it's been in work Iv had it on a panini! Quite worried now.... so that's not really cooking as such as heating up? Think that's the same?

Shellbell0403 · 19/08/2016 14:46

Twocats i thought camember was a no no in pregnancy because soft cheese etc?

kikisdelivery · 19/08/2016 14:52

Shell - I'm a cheese fiend so I know the answer to this one! Camembert is now classed as fine on the NHS site, as long as it's been baked to hot all the way through. Eating it "raw" on a cracker is still a risk, but cooking it is now ok apparently. Cheese yourself up! Grin

twocatsandatoddler · 19/08/2016 15:04

Yep all cheese is fine, even unpasteurised, as long as cooked through. It's how I got my soft cheese fix last time! Off to Waitrose now to get a Camembert and some crispy bread.

FriendlyGhost · 19/08/2016 15:05

Thanks for that link GG. An interesting thing someone mentioned is that PAPP-A binds to zinc. Zinc is lost through breastfeeding so I'm now wondering if this could be why my levels are low. I've done a quick google and there's absolutely no research on this but a few people have speculated on breastfeeding being a reason for low levels of PAPP-A. I might start a thread later to see if any other mums have found the same thing. Anyone else still breastfeeding-what were your levels?

FriendlyGhost · 19/08/2016 15:07

For those of you that love soft cheese I think Waitrose do a pasteurised version of Brie which is safe. Only discovered it at the end last time. Must hunt some down later!
