Katy44 · 30/01/2007 15:39

GMM - I'm not particularly, but only because I would be more stressed if I hadn't got it.

Have no idea re valentines, I think its easy for dp's.. flowers, perfume, underwear, jeweelry etc but really hard for us lot..

As we are off to barcelona 4 days after valentines I dont think we will bother that much?

We have our pram, it was at mums but we reaslied that we needed it to go and have a look for new cars so have brought it up, but its in the garage.. which isnt attached to the house.. so I think it will be ok.. and I suppose if you have a faith (as I do) then you shouldnt really be superstitious should you? Although god help anyone who puts new shoes on a table in my house

Katy44 · 30/01/2007 15:47

Don't think the garage counts - that's in storage rather than actualy being in your house.
Valentine's - we don't tend to bother much. Our anniversary is on the 26th so we tend to celebrate then.

geordiemacminx · 30/01/2007 15:51

If asked about valentines we should all tell dp's not to bother and save money for gift when baby is born... or 2 gifts in 1b3 and eca's case!!

1becomes3 · 30/01/2007 15:56

All I want for valentines is A back, leg and bump rub.
(with out the sex. Unless it comes with a garantee that it will make me go into labour! )

Oh and for someone to take DD for the day!

1becomes3 · 30/01/2007 15:57

Is eca having DT's?

geordiemacminx · 30/01/2007 16:03

Nope... I meant ooogs.... I really am thick as mince today!!

Apologies eca!!

AngeG · 30/01/2007 16:31

Hello all.

CD - Fantastic news. I'm so pleased for you. It's truly wonderful to have the independence and freedom that driving brings.

MIABT - So sorry to hear about your Mum's dog. They really do become one of the family and it's heart breaking. Thinking of you all and sending [[[[hugs]]]].

Emmymummy - thanks for posting the picture shame I look so awful Sorry that you're a bit low today. I think after a night of poor sleep it's hard to find positives and everything just gets on top of you.

1becomes3 - good on you with some retail therapy

GMM - I was a bit funny about having things in the house 1st time round. Obviously this time it's just all up in the loft.

11weeks - Glad the GTT test was all ok.

WO - agree with everyone else you must go to the classes. The social aspect and meeting people at a similar stage to you is great.

Nuttygirl - Agree with what others have said about the Christening thing. Some Churches are more strict than others. Hope you manage to sort it out.

SOSPL - fantastic that your dishwasher is fixed. Big pat on the back for Andrej

Eca - You sound like a domestic godess I need you to come and cook at my house

WCL - Glad you're feeling better.

I'm sure I've missed people out. Sorry.

liath · 30/01/2007 16:43

Hi all,

Massive congratulations CD, great news!

Loved seeing the meet up photo, looked like you were all having fun. Did you get a bump shot too?

DH was a bit poor when we went to NCT classes, he only made a couple (he buggered off on a ski holiday with his mate so missed one of the weekend ones). However the whole thing was a lifeline especially in the first few weeks when we would send round supportive emails complaining about sore nips etc. Am meeting one of the mums and her ds tomorrow.

Don't make much of valentines here generally - might get some nice food in from M&S but don't go in for presents as it's only a few days after my birthday.

Sister still pg - induction thursday....

EllieKwithabigbump · 30/01/2007 17:36

hi all
i am catching up, slowly!

nuttygirl I had ds baptised in a proper church and the vicar said that very few insist on godparents being baptised, I had thought that they had to be too!

Bugmum now I have to find what the question was

had a fab weekend, there is an amazing jacquzi (sp) bath in dp's new rental place, so had a lovely bubble bath, together

had a great day today too, dp has the week off so we took Matthew to Felixstowe, watched some container ships and walked along the shingle, then fish & chips and arcades, excellent day

don't do valentines, too much commercial hype for my liking, and my birthday is only a week after!

Emmymummy · 30/01/2007 17:55

Evening. Thanks for all the sympathy...had a little snooze so feeling a bit more with it this evening, but very much looking forward to going back to bed!

Have got MW appt tomorrow to have bloods done and an anti-D injection, so will be interested to see the state of my blood pressure right now.

WO - totally agree with all comments about NCT anti-natal classes - you really MUST go, even if it's just to meet some other mums-to-be. There's nothing in the world more helpful & reassuring than talking to other people who are in the same boat as you. I went to quite a few without dh as he was working, but it really didn't matter one jot. In fact I'm going to classes this time again (albeit ones for mums who've already got kids), and the dhs/dps aren't even invited!

CaptainDippy · 30/01/2007 18:05

Hello! Children are tired and whingy so won't be too long.

Thank you all so much for your congratulations - much apprecaited!! I am very relieved, but still don't quite believe it!!

Congrats on the extension plans WCL - sounds exciting....

Nothing to report really, work was v.quiet this afternoon and I am feeling absolutely knackered after getting up so obscenely early this morning. Going to a church prayer meeting for an hour this evening, then DH and I having Indian Take-Away to celebrate and going to bed!! (Hurrah!!)

CaptainDippy · 30/01/2007 18:07

...and yes WO - You must go to your NCT Classes - as the acting chair of our local branch, I insist on it - You'll learn so much and it will be great to meet other expectants..... go, go ,go .....

11weeksandcounting · 30/01/2007 18:23

Katy44 - for the first 6 hours it's standard practise to stare at baby to check breathing still (the paranoia will wear off), take lots of pictures to get the startle reflex from the flash (not so funny after a while), try to breastfeed (if you plan to) and will ask everyone within 8 metres if they think he/she is latched on properly, drink tea and eat toast (standard hospital issue for all new mothers), stare at baby for a bit longer, dwell on the state of your fanjo and whether to go to toilet or not, top up on your painkillers, growl at anyone who comes within 20 feet of your baby and eventually dh will prise baby out of your arms for a 2 minute cuddle which will end in argument because hes not doing it properly! Oh and if its your first you will probably have changed 230 nappies...

...it will be the most precious and special few hours with your baby - try to enjoy it and not dwell on the birth - also try to get some sleep

1B3 - I saw a nice Jane three wheeler with front/back not long ago - not sure if from birth though.

My mum has decided not to come Bit harsh but if she is in the spare bed - where do I go when the insomnia hits? So quite relieved.

Hope goes well at midwife Emmymummy.

Watched the ER episode with the sling thing - I see what you mean now! I thought it was a really good insight into how judgemental people can be - and so true to life!

Off to browse mn!

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 30/01/2007 18:25

Hi all, lots of posts again!

Liath, your poor sister - roll on Thursday eh!

EllieK, glad you had a lovely weekend and your day today sounded fab!

Emmymummy, glad you are feeling a bit brighter and hope the mw appointment goes ok. I have one on Thursday.

Hello to everyone else, and hope you are all well.

Nothing to report here. Dh home early tonight which is fabulous. He is also working from home tomorrow which is even better!

Re Valentines Day - we do cards, but nothing else - although of course I would never look a gift horse in the mouth!

EllieKwithabigbump · 30/01/2007 18:48

1b3 you missed lots of excitement last week, such as this leaderboard

EllieKwithabigbump · 30/01/2007 19:19

11weeks and all others doind a strepb test, not wishing to scare you but i stumbled across a few posts on another thread t'other day, they were discussing whether to get dh's to help or ask midwives, as the had to get a swab from a rather tricky behind place iykwim

Katy44 · 30/01/2007 19:23

11weeks thank you! I suppose when you put it like that it diesn't seem that much time.
(Still want to know if you're allowed to get up to go to the toilet though?)

Bugmum · 30/01/2007 19:25

EllieK
The question was whereabouts in East Anglia (now I'm having a crisis of confidence, in case it wasn't you who asked )

liath · 30/01/2007 19:26

at 11 week's description of the first 6 hours - so true!!

I remember an auxillary coming in & saying "It's 3am, just go to sleep" and me saying "I caaaaaan't, I just want to look at my beautiful baby".

As my middle sister pointed out many months later dd looked like a tea bag with a wig on as a newborn, but I thought she was the most beautiful thing in creation !!!

maveta · 30/01/2007 19:35

MIABT - so sorry about your/your mum´s dog. Our family dog died 3.5 years ago and he is still very sorely missed and very very fondly recalled by all of us. My mum had an awful time trying to get over it, she really was heartbroken. He may have been ´just´ a dog but really he was her shadow for 14 years and I think he helped her through so many other things that went on in her personal life, my dad being ill, us all leaving home, that his absence was so hard to bear for her.

I think it´s hard for so many people without pets to understand how much it can hurt when you lose them.

Cd..great news re. your driving test - well done!!

I think that´s me. I´ve had a whirlwind day at work and ended up doing an hour overtime, that plus the 30 min drive home and doing a food shop after that, then preparing dinner blah blah blah has left me ready for a bit of tv and bed.

Night night!

EllieKwithabigbump · 30/01/2007 19:36

katy don't panic, you can get up whenever you like! I had a catheter in from having an epidural (narcolepsy means i can't have the modern one where you can still move around) so i couldn't get out of bed for a couple of hours, but my friends were all up as soon as they got to the ward!

EllieKwithabigbump · 30/01/2007 19:39

aah yes Bugmum that was indeed me! sorry, memory not what it used to be! I'm just outside Bury St Eds, eca is near Kings Lynn, and cazboldy is near Beccles.

EllieKwithabigbump · 30/01/2007 20:24

it's a tumbleweed moment
