I wonder if our next 2 babies will be arriving soon then, shanks and amie it's good that you are getting the scans you need to keep an eye on things and put your minds to rest. amie - what did the mw say about the movements yesterday?

I'm not even going to send out cards I don't think. I feel far too lazy. also lost my address book just after xmas so am waiting for people to contact me. they'll have to make do with an email or a text message. cards are lovely to get though - I love seeing those little babies. shame I am so lazy.

I've finally organised a doula which has made me feel much better about it all. eve reconsidering a home b irth but don't think dh would go for it. doula has a tens machine she can lend me so I'll use that. last time round it was all I used and it was really good. but ds2 did only take about 5 hours - I'm not sure if it would have been enough for a longer labour. I hope I get to go in the pool - that sounds good. Our bath is way too small to fit in. very [jealous] of people with big baths!

bethoo · 06/02/2007 16:18

may seem naive here but what is a doula?

morocco · 06/02/2007 16:26

I think a couple of us on here are having one? it's someone who's there to support you through the birth (unlike my dh who stresses me out ) . they're not medically qualified like midwives are but th offer moral support/back rubs/help with breathing that kind of stuff. there's a website that explains it better here
I'd really recommend it to first time mums especially (not that I have had one before but I wish I had). I think I wanted one cos ds1's labour was a bit of a shock and ended in a c section that I'd rather avoid this time round. then with ds2 I managed ok but had the obstetrician helping me with the breathing exercises. I worry that I won't have a mw with me in the uk til right at the end and I'm not v good at coping with that kind of thing by myself

sexkittyinwaiting · 06/02/2007 16:28

Hello jay, sorry dd is still poorly, it's tiring isn't it?

Shanks and Amie,I've an antenatal tomorrow and a scan on Monday. I've spent the last week putting a real effort into not moving much, eating well and spending as much time as posible on my greatly expanding backside. The bump has certainly got alot bigger. A couple of people today said I looked very big for dates !!!!
Why don't you both do that? REST, REST and REST more, eat really well and send out growing vibes to your babies. This might sound a bit kookie but it worked for me with dd2 and I think it's having an effect now. Also PLEASE bear in mind that the weight estimates are notoriously inaccurate. The chances are your babies wil be bigger than their guestimated weights.

AmieR · 06/02/2007 16:31

Thanks Bethboo, just following my mw's instructions and have to make sure I get 10 movements in a 12 hour period. Esp as growth not happening as it should. If not, have to report in at the Labour ward.

Hey Jay - was wondering what you'd been up too!

Morocco - I'd love a doula...

AmieR · 06/02/2007 16:34

oops X post Kitty - you won't forget to let us know how you get on tomorrow will you? I've spent the last 48 hours doing very little, apart from the bizzare Sainsbury's experience! DH is sorting out tea tonight so I'm sure it will be a good feed, ontop of the bangers and mash I had for lunch! LOL

divastrop · 06/02/2007 16:49

amie-go and get checked out if youve still got your headache.when i was expecting ds1 i didnt get a headache untill my bp had gone up a fair bit-it was up before but i had no symptoms apart from slightly swollen fingers.

shanks-

moss/rosy-i find it strange these connections with paddy's day after that dream i had last week(where we were in the pub on paddy's day).
rosy-you have to have oyur lo on march 17th then you will both have saints' days for birthdays.

re-birth announcements,i'll just ring my mum and let her tell everyone

i feel wierd today,i want to cry one minute then the next minute i want to run round sorting things out,but i'm not physically able to cos my back and pelvis are killing me and im having strong braxton hicks.

LunarSea · 06/02/2007 17:00

amie - Lunar-Mist? Is that what you get near a Lunar-Sea?

3rdtriMOSSter · 06/02/2007 17:05

Diva sorry you're not feeling so good. Why not write a list of all the things that need doing and present it to your dp?

Ah I'd love to be in the pub on Paddy's day / dh's birthday. But I think I'll be sat at home unless I pop early! I'll just have to make do with being in your dream instead!

Kitty good luck in your appointment tomorrow and I hope they confirm your lo's growth!

Jay congrats to your brother & sil! What is up with your dd1?

Shanks do you think you're going to go into labour soon then?!

Right I'm feeling quite a bit better now so I am going to go and catch up with some sleep, after doing the washing up.

foxabout2pop · 06/02/2007 19:07

Hi there

this is a really rubbish message but I am too tired to post properly, although I have read all your posts.

Nighty Night [waves]

1973magpie · 06/02/2007 19:32

Mossy - apparently BT will take about two weeks to fix the broadband - BUT - we have already had several problems with the BT line since we moved in 18 months ago, and they are really rubbish at sorting stuff out

Haven't got time to mention all now as I'm about to eat my tea, and am really hungry, will post more later

divastrop · 06/02/2007 19:56

magpie-ive exchanged a few cross words with bt over the past week after they offered me £1.17 compensation for my line being out of order for 5 days, plus no apology for the fact that i was told in a very rude manner by various call centre staff that the fault was with my phone, even though it turned out it wasnt.anyway, they have offered me a months' free line rental now.i wouldnt touch bt broadband with a bargepole.

jay-x posts with you before.hope dd gets better soon.my dd2(who i think is around the same age)seems to get ill for weeks at a time when she gets anything.at least they are building up their immunity.

kitty-glad to hear you sound more positive about the size of your bump

moss-i'm not organised enough to know what needs doing,i have to sort of wander round looking for thingsanyway, its stuff like sorting out the hospital bag and that which only i can do.he has to paint dd2's room before baby comes along, thats something i really cant do atall.

DollyPopsOut · 06/02/2007 20:12

Hello all

Had a rubbish day at work yesterday, a rubbish night's sleep and now feel very dizzy and light headed so can't write much. Hope you are all doing OK. Hang on in there Diva, love the name Foxy, hope the sickness passes Mossy . I couldn't bear TENS so it might be an idea to try before you buy. I think if I'd practised more with it before the great day it might have worked better.

Never bothered with scratch mitts. I don't have the right sort of teeth to bite nails (and before you wonder, they are my own but my bite is "complex" acc my dentist!) so just trimmed with baby scissors. As DD was so long at birth, she went straight into 0-3 months, most of which will be recycled for her baby sister. Haven't so much as packed a toothbrush yet though. I sort of feel now the CS is in the diary, I don't need to leap into action until the week before. Hope it doesn't all kick off early .

Glad you are growing Kitty, hope you are coping with your fluid Sazzy and good luck to all trying to turn their babies. I don't know anyone who has had ECV, but it is supposed to have a good success rate. Booboo, i am so jealous that you have finished work. Brockwell park is beckoning. Can recommend the cakes in the cafe, esp the coffee one which is well known as a tonic for pregnant ladies .

I think we have decided on a name - Katherine, to be known as kitty. MIL really likes it which made me think I should choose again but it's about the only one DH and I can agree on. And DD can say it, which is a bonus.

Sorry to everyone I've missed - I'll try again tomorrow.

XXXXX

foxabout2pop · 07/02/2007 06:20

Morning Grrrls

Went to bed at 7.30pm last night! Woke at 11.30pm for a sandwich and half a glass of wine (watched Shameless) then slept again from 1am-5am, so got my eight hours...

Piffle I love your family's Irish names. DS1's middle name is Patrick and he is a bit of a stunner in my unbiased opinion. DD just looks very Irish but with an aboriginal nose Can't wait to see how Moniti looks...

BooBuddy - apparently most babes are born within 2 weeks either side of the EDD aren't they, so I'm not on "high alert" until about 19 Feb. Which explains why I've done nothing....

Magpie - make sure you complain very loudly to BT about all the inconvenience they've caused you. I made a fornal complaint about the last week and they've given me an extra £5 a month off my braodband.

Diva - think I'm going to buy a nittygritty comb so will let you know if its good or not.

Kiwi - what a dilemna about the names . Your MIL's relationship with her daughetr sounds like My Mum's with my little sister - a very unhealthy dependancy. You sound as though you're dealing with her in a very sensitive way. Could you have one of SIL's names as a middle name perhaps?

Morocco - well done on organising your Doula - I still haven't organised one yet

Mossy - I bought scratch mitts for DS1 and have never used the darn things, which just fall off all the time anyway IMO How is your sickness now BTW?

Like the name Katherine/Kitty - also like Kathleen

Hi everyone else - I am trying to keep up but not doing very well...

foxabout2pop · 07/02/2007 06:23

Dolly hope you have a better day today

I've got eight days left at work incl. today, but actually only six in the office

eidsvold · 07/02/2007 06:29

fox - dd1 had outbreak of nits at kindy and sn kindy. Talked to GP about nit killer and she said basically so many of the nits are now resistant to it - basically the old wet comb with the nit comb was the most effective thing to do.

I do use tea tree shampoo and conditioner on dd1 anyway.

foxabout2pop · 07/02/2007 06:33

Hi Eids - I was just thinking about you (wondering if you were around). Its freezing here and set to snow tonight!

This nittygritty comb is supposed to be the mother of all nit combs so I think might be a bit easier to use than those plastic jobbies. Its such a nuisance isn't it.

Am having my pre-birth haircut done today - so do hope the hairdresser doesn't find any survivor lice nesting in my hair !!!

What time is it in Oz?

3rdtriMOSSter · 07/02/2007 06:41

Morning all,

Feeling an incy wincy bit better this a.m. so I'm going to go into work. (I'll only be sat at home moping around if I don't, anyway).

Diva / Magpie, BT broadband sounds rubbish. Everywhere (in the North anyway) we ever lived before this had Telewest, and they were absolutely perfect. Anyway we moved here and they don't supply this street, so we had to get Sky, and a BT Phone Line. Can't say I've had probs with BT (yet!) but Sky are so rubbish compared to Telewest!!

Dolly, Katherine / Kitty is a lovely name! Hope you get a bit of a better day today!!

Foxy / Eids hope you get your nit problems sorted out, I've all that to come I guess, although have managed to get lots of practising done with teeny nasties by dealing with the pets' fleas and the like!

Right, off to get ready for work, I have had brekkie so here's hoping it stays down there!!!

eidsvold · 07/02/2007 06:42

4.41pm - about to go and make pizzas for two dds - I am out to a committee meeting tonight so early dinner.

Rather warm again today - 31 degrees and relatively humid.

I just have one of the plastic ones and it seems to do the trick.

I have my pre birth haircut in a month or so and get some hair colour in so I don't like the baby's grandma with my white hairs showing

eidsvold · 07/02/2007 06:44

no nit problems at the moment with us - thank goodness - dd1 has fine hair but a lot of it.........

hope today is a better day mossy.

foxabout2pop · 07/02/2007 07:22

Eids - am very impressed you're still going to committe meetings etc

Moss - hope U have a good day today

got to go and get dressed now [...trots off]

sexkittyinwaiting · 07/02/2007 07:37

Morning all, Dolly, Kitty is of course a fab name . My dd2 is called lydia but we have always called her Kitty (it's a long story!!)

Foxy, really glad you got a decent rest. I too am falling alseep when the boys read to me at about 7.30 The other day after this happened ds1 told me I looked like I was dead!!
Nitty Gitty is ok, I find it hard to see what I've caught in it as it's all ridged so I prefer to use the straight toothed metal ones.

Mossy, glad you are feeling a bit better today. Keep eating little and often won't you?

Diva, hope you are feeling a little more cheery today. Not long to go now.

Sorry, haven't got time to reply to all everyone atm, got to get monsters ready for school and pre school.

DollyPopsOut · 07/02/2007 08:13

Morning all

Another pants night. Been up since 4. But raging and now at my desk baying for blood. It'll end in tears (probably mine) but am so furious I have to say something. Work again, grrrrrrrrrrr, why haven't I had a lottery win????

Mossy, hope you are OK today. I'll email you know about the bras . More later XXXX

Rosylily · 07/02/2007 08:40

I hope everyone is well, Dolly lovely name.

Jay I hope your dd is better soon. Mine get one thing after another at that age.

Shanks I hope you manage to rest and keep baby in as long as possible!
Though of course it will be so exciting when more babies start appearing!

I always have sctratch mittens lying around but don't get much use out of them, I find the babies don't seem to like them and it is easier to keep trimming their nails down, if I get behind though, they can make a right mess of their little faces with those scratches!

Self pity alert...I feel as if I am not coping today, I'm going to have to make a huge effort with myself. I need to jump start the taxed banger from the engine of the untaxed banger beside it. I can't even get the frozen door open, I can hardly walk today but we have no money left in the house so had to scrabble around for change for ds1 train fare/lunch money...managed that, but dd isn't going to get to playschool again. My get up and go got up and went. I'm getting loads of bh and I need dh to be here now. Argh.

LunarSea · 07/02/2007 08:50

Moss - For ds I had some sleep suits which had integral scratch mitts you could just fold over if you needed them (which solves the problem fox had too where they keep falling off). As it happens he never scratched himself anyway when they were off.

I also had some things like these - the top half is a bit like a babygro with arms in (and those integral mitts) but instead of having legs with poppers, the bottom part is just a tube - much easier for nighttime changes. Haven't seen any in the shops this time though.
