New thread because the old one's about to hit the 1000 posts mark.

Moss - mine is due on dh's birthday. But if he has to share his birthday with little one it's only fair, because ds was born on MY birthday. At least it means they'll never have an excuse for forgetting when their parents' birthdays are!

There must be something about my family - because my parents share their birthday to!

Fox... Monti (the stork) sounds fab!! What a great way to decide this together. Is there some Australian connection for you two?

Diva... bless your dp. You need to keep reminding yourself just how lucky you are. Stop worrying.

Things are finally being sorted out here at work. I had a great meeting with my head this morning - he will be replacing me, in the interim, with someone who I both know and like. I am so happy for the side-step for her and know that the door is completely open for me to return in September. He has also suggested that I consider coming back before the summer hols so that I will be paid for them. I'm not sure that it is practical (no family here to rely on for a week's babysitting and not sure about using hubs leave for that purpose).

Eids... I would go for making your own birth announcements. One my cousin made on the computer for her son was really effective - it was black and white with the newspaper announcement they had placed repeated over and over with a photograph over the top. I've done a hash job of explaining that, I know. There is a fabby American site that sells invites which I adapted one I liked for my baby shower. I will have the link at home so post later (and you're zzzzz anyways!).

Mossy... sorry to hear you are feeling poorly. And, Amie hope that your headache goes away soon.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

1973magpie · 06/02/2007 12:32

Hi All,

Long time no speak, still haven't got our broadband back, so am on very slow dial up

Takes so long to read all your posts that I have forgotten everyones news by the time I come to post!

Amie, hope your headache gets better soon, it might be worth getting your blood pressure checked if it carries on. Sympathy for the migraines, I have always suffered from them, apart from when pg, so I think they must be hormonal in my case.

Mossy, I hope the pasta stays down, I am still occasionally sick, but think it's to do with the antibiotics that I am currently taking for my chest infection. I find that mint helps me with nausea i.e polos etc.

I think you are all very organised considering birth announcements, I tend to just phone a few people and let the word spread that way!

Hope everyone else is well, not long to go now, am starting to get excited / terrified about the birth

Kiwi - yes DH is Aboriginal Australian - hence the aboriginal name requirement. Now we just have to choose a saints name for a middle name (the Irish catholic requirement )

Mossy - I felt really sick just before I went into labour!!

Re birth announcmenets we'll probably take a pic and e-mail it round "Meet Monti!"

I want DS and DD to be holding him gently in the pic, not a trace of sibling rivalry

Sorry - got to go back to my work meeting now

divastrop · 06/02/2007 12:56

im going to have to catch up later again!

just wanted to say thank you for the supportive msgs re dp and for letting me have my paranoid rant on here yesterday

fox-the headlice up here are immune to all the shampoos.ive heard those nitty gritty kit things are great, but ive never tried them.i check dd1's hair every night so i catch them straight away now,its the only way i could keep them under control.have you seen that cuddly headlouse toy on the products thread?its cute

moss-sorry ur feeling unwell.have you spoken to your mw or doctor?its unusual for ms to come back in late preg.

hello everybody else i will catch up later xxx

bethoo · 06/02/2007 13:02

Fox - Monti is quite appropriate for the bird as isnt the stork the bringer of new babies?

well i hope that those of you with ailments get well soon. headaches could be a sign of dehydration so hope you are drinking plenty of fluids (sorry, practising my mothering role!!!)

Piffle · 06/02/2007 13:06

oooh our family all has irish middle names
I'm Siobhan, db's are Donovan and Patrick
DS is Padraig DD is Niamh
Dp is very keen on Irish name for this little guy so we've trawled through some choice ones along the way and some less choice ones

Fox one thing for sure, your kids will have stunning hair and a fabulous skin tone
I've seen a lot of mixed aboriginal European children and they have been stunning.

kiwibella · 06/02/2007 13:40

I have a name dilemma... as we had to, and out of respect, we asked mil to help decide our baby's name. Mil has the most bizarre relationship with her daughter - she doesn't breathe without checking it is ok first. It drives me nuts because it seems really weird for an adult to be dependent on their child (I'm sure that some people or "experts" would have a field day making sense of this). Anyways... mil suggested three beautiful names for a boy - all touching and have amazing sentiment. She suggested one for a girl and, as I predicted with dh, her daughter's name and middle name hyphenated. This would only be the middle name for our baby. If dh wanted to honour his sister in this way, I think that I would be ok about it or even if mil had suggested her daughter's middle name.

The worst thing is our baby is likely to be a girl - although not definate. I upset mil in so many ways with our first (and all to do with sil) that I am trying really hard to involve and include her and, I suppose, make some peace. Or atleast, make it right this time.

Love to hear your suggestions.

sexkittyinwaiting · 06/02/2007 13:43

Hello all, I'm mostly lurking atm. I feel tired and anti social

Sorry for all those who are poorly

Glad for you and your name choice Foxy

Hope things are better Diva.

Have a good day

Rosylily · 06/02/2007 13:53

Magpie and Amie I get migraines too but not while pregnant. I was having a mild headache for a few days but I have lost my appetite and I really think it was a hunger headache!

Kiwi with my dd, dh wanted to call her after a precious aunt with long double barrelled name, we took the first part and altered it slightly. Do you think if you use a part of the name or different version of the name that would still be acceptable?

Booboobedoo · 06/02/2007 13:54

Hi kiwi. Do you like SIL's name? Could you just use one of the names as a middle name rather than hyphenating both? That seems like a fair compromise.

Mossy: so sorry you're having MS again. I know how awful it is. Do eat though - I remember mine was much worse when I didn't. You'll only retch anyway, and it's easier to be sick if there's something in there, and plenty of fluids. My rule ended up being: make sure it tastes nice on the way down, then it'll taste ok on the way up. Oh, the joys...

Foxy: it does indeed mean we could pop. . It's unlikely though. I read somewhere else on MN that something like 2% of women have their baby on their due date. of the rest, 30% have baby early, and 70% late. My boy appears to be extremely comfortable atm, and now I've stopped work I'm less stressed.

Moss: I've still got lots of paperwork to do to make sure the business keeps ticking over, but now I'm not teaching any more I'm going to do the following:

  • eat freshly prepared, healthy food every day (have just made a huge vat of fresh veg soup with loads of spinach in it).
  • Finally practise the yoga I've been meaning to practise all the way through the pregnancy.
  • Have an afternoon nap every day.
  • Wash all the baby's clothes - and iron them. (I won't be ironing them once I've had him, but at least he can start out looking smart).
  • drink lots of raspberry leaf tea and go mad on the pelvic floor exercises. I intend to be able to crack walnuts.
  • Catch up with all the friends I've been neglecting for the last 8 months.
  • Spend a stupid ammount of time on MN.
  • Have lots of baths.
  • Join the library.
  • Generally be self-indulgent and enjoy my last few baby-free weeks as much as poss.

VVV: By 17th March I'll be 14 days over my EDD, so that's my absolute final deadline. He has to be out of me by then. .

Foxy: I really like Monti.

Diva: hope you're feeling happier today.

Booboobedoo · 06/02/2007 13:54

Hi Rosy & kitty: X posts.

3rdtriMOSSter · 06/02/2007 14:14

Afternoon all. Well I have managed to keep my pasta down and I feel a little bit better now.

Foxy I can't go into labour just yet, I haven't bought any scratch mitts!!!

Diva I have had ms / nausea on and off, although this is the worst it's been since 1st trimester. I am like you, I get a bit paranoid about going the doctor in case they think I'm making a big fuss about nowt. But if it carries on and I am still being sick tomorrow I will make an appointment.

Glad you are feeling a bit better.

Magpie what a pita about your internet connection!! This is now quite a long thread too so I bet it would take a while to load. When will you be back "up to speed" do you think?

Amie sorry 'bout your headache have you taken any paracetamol?

Lunar lo is due almost equidistant between dh's 29th & my 30th! So I doubt either of us will be having a big bash this year!!

Kiwi my friend works at the local paper so I am going to get her to put an announcement in for me for free (I used to work there too hence how I know her), I like that idea about sending it round as a card, I will see if I can get one of the page designers there to make me some cards!

All right now I really sound like a cheapskate! Ah well I confess, I am!

Kiwi what does your dh think? Would you be able to use just one of the names, the one you like best, as a middle name, instead of double-barrelling?

Ah Kitty sorry you're feeling a bit out of it atm. Hope you're okay

Booboo, walnuts?

Rotfpmsl!

Mil has come over to paint inside the cupboards in the nursery so I am a bit less bored now, gonna go and make her a brew.

3rdtriMOSSter · 06/02/2007 14:16

Also I have found something that makes my ms lessen momentarily, it's a bit weird, but I toilet ducked the loo, and the smell of that stuff is wonderful!!!!

Not sure that sniffing toilet duck is healthy for long periods but the bathroom is a lovely nausea free zone.

Piffle · 06/02/2007 14:27

FWIW Mossy we never used scratch mitts here
Just nibbled them little fingernails down after a bath.
Esp not with dd as she was a thumb sucker..

kiwibella · 06/02/2007 15:04

what are scratch mitts?

10 mins until home time - atleast for the kids but I'll be right behind them. I've been awake since four .

sexkittyinwaiting · 06/02/2007 15:08

Never used scratch mits. As Piffle says, I just chewed off any sharp nails.

I got some mat towels today and I remember now why I prefer them to 'normal'ones. Because they are thick they are more like sitting on a soft cushion and a soft cushion post birth is important .

Tens never did anything for me either

kiwibella · 06/02/2007 15:09

also thanks for the comments about the name. I think, if any, we would use sil's middle name instead of both hyphenated. Although I love my sil dearly, having her first name - chosen by mil - would be a constant reminder.

Thankfully, when I did my "told ya" gloat to dh about mil suggesting his sister's name, he said that ain't gonna happen . Guess I am walking on eggshells, most worried about upsetting mil.

AmieR · 06/02/2007 15:16

DH and I have decided to tell MIL when LO is born we've named them Lunar-Mist for a girl or Sun-Rise for a boy to see if she can bite her tongue!

LOL

shanks313 · 06/02/2007 15:21

Hi everyone,
Had scan and antenantal today.

Apparently baby still hasnt grown much in 2 weeks.Shes still weighing in at just over 5lb so shes going to be teeny. The placenta was fine and is no more low lying but they are still concerned that the fluid is leaking.Although its still within normal perimeters.

I was hooked up to a monitor for 20 minutes to check contractions, heartbeat ,movement etc as I said I didnt get much movement yesterday.I have to go back if I dont get 10 kicks in 10 hours.

Got a little worried at first as the sonographer seemed to think they might have induced me and they didnt know wether I should go back in 1 or 2 weeks but I have to return in 2 weeks for another scan and antenatal unless something else happens.

I dont know but I have a feeling something will happen as Im getting much stronger period type pains now and more frequent.
At least we have the bags packed ready lol

36 weeks(girl)

AmieR · 06/02/2007 15:29

Hi Shanks, its nice to have someone in a similar situation to bounce thoughts around... I've got a check up next week (thursday), well a scan and an appointment, very nervous... had movemements yesterday but not many at all today, 3-4 maybe, the period type cramps I got towards end of last week haven't reappeared, am getting tightenings over top of bump tho... not sure what it all means...

LO was about 5lb 1-2 last tuesday I'll be 37 weeks on thursday.

kitty when is your next scan?

YankeeFish · 06/02/2007 15:39

Foxy - Monti sounds perfect, I can't believe it means stork - I think it is meant to be!

Kiwi - you are doing a wonderful job balancing everyone's feelings - just make sure you look out for yourself too! You don't want to overlook your own opinions and then realize down the road that you did what everyone else wanted, instead of connecting with yourself. I don't envy your position - but it seems like you are being very considerate - v. proud!!

Moss - ugh about the ms - hope you feel better.

Rosy - we have the same due date, and I am a bit weary of the 17th - as I want LO to have own special day for bday. DH entire family is Irish Catholic, so they would love it!

Amie & Shanks, it sounds like you two may be on your way!!

YankeeFish
35weeks
Surprise!

bethoo · 06/02/2007 15:59

Amie - remember that as your baby gets bigger he will not move as much though he should still move. also bearing in mind that if your placenta is at the front then you may not feel as much. and i too am experiencing the cramps and tightenings.

Jaysecond · 06/02/2007 16:03

A new thread and over 400 posts, you are all a tight nit community now!
popping on to say SIL and Bro had thier baby on the 3 Feb, she had a bit of a rough time, i wont go into details as i dont want to scare anyone! anyway, all is well now and she was a very healthy 8lb 13ozs. it was her first and she was five days over, she has a lovely head of hair and the chubbiest cheeks, they have called her Ava Rebecca, for no reason other than they like them both! Shes hoping to be home tomorrow so i will get a new baby fix!

Things with me are ok, getting a lot of BH really tight and hard, had a few period type pains over the past cpl of days, nothing much, must pack my bag ASAP. Have everything apart from pads, so theres no excuse! Seems that the baby is head down so thats good, am still having mots of movments, mostly his bum i think pushing out and then his hands reaching out, well its what i imagine it to be! Having a scan next week to check placenta, so that will be quite good. Glad to hear that babies are turning and placentas are moving, i have managed to read through the thread, but theres no way i can pick up everyones news, sorry

DD1 has now been poorly for 4 weeks, she started again with the sickness and temperature two days ago, shes stabilising now and hasnt bought anything up since last night, but shes still feeling very sorry for herslef and is constantly demanding my attention, hence i am knackered, with having to have her perm attached to me! Bless her

anyway, just thought id give you all an update, i do read the posts even if i dont alwasy seem to be around, am keeping my beady eye on you all!!

Hugs J xx

bethoo · 06/02/2007 16:10

Good to hear from you Jay and hope you are well.
